LineageOS, a popular alternative to standard Android operating systems, has just released its latest version, LineageOS 21, based on Android 14. Coming into the game five months after Android 14’s debut, this update might seem late, but it stands out for its focus on quality and stability. LineageOS has built a reputation for delivering a bloatware-free, extensively tested OS, making it a go-to for Android enthusiasts seeking stability.

With LineageOS 21, users get all the core features of Android 14, plus some exclusive additions that improve the user experience. A highlight is the introduction of Glimpse, a new gallery app replacing the default Gallery2, offering improved features for managing photos and videos. Additionally, the update revamps the Aperture camera app with Material You design principles, ensuring a more intuitive and aesthetically pleasing user interface.

The update doesn’t stop there; the Jelly browser has been redesigned with improved privacy controls, and staple apps like LatinIME, Calculator, and Messaging have also received Material You updates, aligning with the modern design language of Android.

LineageOS 21 is currently available for a limited selection of devices. Users interested in upgrading can check device compatibility on the official LineageOS downloads page.

LG V30 owners rejoice as it appears that the six year old phone is officially receiving software support on the LineageOS platform. So now, one can move to the custom ROM and here are all the details.

The South Korea company had first launched the smartphone back in 2017 and its official software support ended a while back. Android manufacturers typically advise against using a device past its official support but now the device has been revived with the LineageOS support. For those unaware, LineageOS is a spiritual successor to the popular CyanogenMod, which was a major custom ROM from back in the day.

For those unaware, the LG V60 was the last edition in the company’s flagship V series of devices. So the V30 was also a premium grade device from its time and featured top notch specs and feature like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is more than enough to run LineageOS smoothly on the device. Furthermore, the device still is quite capable in daily use so LineageOS basicalyl breathes new life into the old phone.

As of right now, the LineageOS 20 is the latest edition of the custom ROM and is based on Android 13 operating system. Which is much newer than LG’s last update that only offered Android 9 OS from back in 2019. So for those interested, you can download the ROM straight from the catalog, although, make the update at your own discretion and be sure to backup your data and even follow the right steps.

LineageOS is amongst one of the most popular AOSP-based custom ROM out there. The ROM is popularly known for its cleanliness and fluidity. The developers recently announced the latest version of LineageOS, which is LineageOS 20. It is based on the latest Android 13 operating system. The ROM was previously made available to some limited devices, but now, the compatibility of the ROM has been further expanded. Devices like the OnePlus 9R, Sony Xperia 5 II, and others have been added to the supported list of ROM.

Android smartphones are blessed with custom ROMs. You can easily find any compatible custom ROM for your smartphone, install it, and start using it if your device has been designated EOL by the manufacturer or you are just sick of the default OS. The unofficial release of LineageOS 20 allowed older devices like the Pixel 2 to unofficially receive support for Android 13. One such example is the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 Wi-Fi. The gadget has been running Android 11 as of late. However, users can now experience Android 13 in it as it has been added to the list of officially supported devices for LineageOS 20.

Further, the OnePlus 9R, Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 and Sony Xperia 5 II also got the support of the latest LineageOS 20 custom ROM. Installing custom ROMs is not a hectic task nowadays as you can simply find an easy guide regarding that on the internet. So if you own any one of the aforementioned devices, you can give the latest LineageOS 20 a try. Users that want to further modify their device more than what is possible with the stock Android operating system often use LineageOS 20.0. It offers a broad variety of customization choices, including the capacity to add new themes, modify the navigation bar’s design, and personalise the status bar.

The ROM is a trustworthy choice for users who want to keep their smartphones up to date-and operating efficiently because it is continuously updated with new features and bug patches. With its extensive customization options and regular updates, it remains a popular choice for Android enthusiasts who want to get the most out of their devices. So that was all we had to cover up regarding the release of LineageOS 20. What are your thoughts on this? Do let us know by dropping a comment in your words down below. Thanks a lot for reading till the end.

Custom ROMs have been a point of interest for smartphone enthusiasts for a long time now. Users install custom ROMs to revitalize their aging smartphones. Many Android manufacturers promise up to four years of OS updates, but this is often limited to newer devices. Older phones often get left behind after a few updates. Custom ROMs can give new life to perfectly usable but outdated phones.

Take the Google Pixel 2, for instance. Launched in 2017 with Android 8.0 Oreo, the device received its last security update in December 2020 and was no longer supported by the company. However, if your Pixel 2 is still working well and its performance fits your needs, you can try Android 13 with LineageOS 20.

The first LineageOS 20 build, based on Android 13 QPR1, was released on the final day of 2022. The initial list of supported devices was small, but the team has since expanded its roster. With the latest build, LineageOS 20 now supports the following devices:

Google Pixel 2

Google Pixel 2 XL

Nubia Z17

Nubia Z18 Mini

BQ Aquaris X

BQ Aquaris X Pro

The custom ROM is also available for two Android TV boxes, the Askey Google ADT-3 Developer Kit and the Dynalink TV Box. Simply visit the LineageOS Wiki pages for the respective device to find the installation steps and download links for the Custom ROM.

Lastly, the Pixel 2 isn’t the only Android phone to receive support from the custom ROM community. The Galaxy S3 and Note 2 were given a taste of Android 13 just months after its release. These examples from the custom ROM community show that the art of creating custom ROMs is alive and well, and people who are still attached to their old smartphones can use them without any snags or complaints.

Popular custom ROM LineageOS has just added a couple of new smartphones to its list of supported devices. So now, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, POCO X3, and more will support its latest LineageOS 20 ROM.

For those unaware, LineageOS is a well known custom ROM in the market and offers a near stock experience and is free from various bloatware from OEM’s with their respective custom skins. Its newest LineageOS 20 iteration was released back in December 2022, and it has began expanding support for newer smartphones models. This includes four models, namely POCO X3, SHIFT SHIFT6mq, Xiaomi Mi 6, and the Mi Mix 2. So for those interested, you can head to the LineageOS wiki to find links to the respective devices to download the custom ROM.

Once there, make sure to follow all of the instructions if you plan to install the LineageOS on any of the aforementioned handsets. Apart from these four models, other phones also received support for the older LineageOS 19 version. This includes the likes of Motorola One Fusion Plus , Xiaomi Mi 11i/Mi 11X Pro/Redmi K40 Pro, Mi 11 Lite 5G, and the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE/11 LE. This version of the custom ROM is based on the Android 12 operating system.

Furthermore, those looking to install LineageOS would also need to unlock their bootloader and install a custom recovery on your device. Keep in mind that if you install this custom ROM, you will need to flash a Google apps (GApps) package as well since they are not bundled with the ROM. Also, do not forget to backup your data to make sure you do not lose any of your important data.

One of the most popular names in the game is LineageOS, mainly because of its stability and extensive device support. The custom ROM hit version 18.1 (based on Android 11) last year with support for over 60 devices and has been expanding its roster ever since.

The latest additions to the officially supported LineageOS 18.1 devices list include the following, and you can download their respective latest builds by clicking on their codenames (via Android Police).

While the OnePlus 9 has already received OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12, the update hasn’t gone down well with everyone since it’s based on ColorOS. LineageOS 18.1 will thus serve as a great replacement.

Both Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite and Mi 10 Lite 5G currently run Android 11 layered with MIUI atop. The heavily-skinned software has always been a hit or miss with users, and those looking for something lighter would love LineageOS 18.1.

The Asus ZenFone Max M1 no longer receives updates and is still stuck on Android 9 following a failed Android 10 beta program. It already has extensive custom ROM developer support and it’s great to see another gem added to its roster.

Additionally, Asus ROG Phone 2 and ZenFone 6 have been dropped from LineageOS support, meaning the duo will no longer be receiving new official builds.

In order to install LineageOS 18.1, users will have to unlock the bootloader of their phone. Followed by that, they will have to replace the stock OnePlus recovery with a custom recovery like TWRP.

Similarly, the Note devices are also popular in the custom ROM development community. Accordingly, the LineageOS 18.1 (Unofficial) custom ROM is now available for the Redmi Note 10 Pro / Pro Max devices.

Xiaomi generally helps developers by releasing the kernel source code of its device as soon as it gets launched. Similarly, it did for the Redmi Note 10 Pro series last month and as a result, we now have the LineageOS 18.1 for Redmi Note 10 Pro and Note 10 Pro Max.

It’s worth noting that LineageOS 18.1 recently went official but the ROM build for the Redmi Note 10 Pro / Pro Max is currently unofficial. This means, the builds are initial and aren’t maintained by someone from the official ROM development team.

However, the ROM is open-source and some of the other developers are bound to take advantage of it and support devices unofficially. Anyway, the LineageOS 18.1 based on Android 11 builds for both Redmi Note 10 Pro and Note 10 Pro Max seem to be working fine except for a few bugs.

All the essentials like the boot, Wi-Fi, Calls, SMS, Mobile Data, VoWifi, Camera, Audio, and others are working as per XDA Senior Member grewal09. However, the build seems to have issues in double-tap to wake and SELinux is set to permissive so keep that in mind.

As we have reported in the kernel source article, the devices have similar specs, so the custom ROM build is unified for both the Global and Indian versions. Therefore, you will have to flash the respective firmware and vendor of your regions(eg. EEA/ India) to avoid fatal problems.

You can refer to the XDA community forum post to find the detailed instructions for flashing the custom ROM.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro / Max runs Android 11 OS out of the box but they don’t have the latest MIUI 12.5. However, they are present on Xiaomi’s official list of eligible devices scheduled to get the update.

LineageOS 16.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie was officially released in March 2019. A number of older devices and then newer devices were supported by developers and maintainers over the course of the next year.

Last year, when Android 10-based LineageOS 17.1 was released, select few devices running the previous version of the OS were updated to the latest one. However, 24 of those smartphones and tablets continued to remain on LineageOS 16.0 up until now.

Now, as the project is readying to release LineageOS 18.1 based on Android 11, it has dropped support for Android 9.0 Pie. As a result, the below listed 24 devices are stuck with LineageOS 16.0 unless any new maintainer shows up to update them to LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10).

The Exynos-powered Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus, and Galaxy Note 9 have been lately receiving unofficial builds of LineageOS 17.1 by a number of developers on the XDA Developers forum.
The custom ROM, LineageOS 15.1, is based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and comes with a lot of customization to the stock Android Oreo experience while still maintaining stability for a wide range of devices. LineageOS is one of the popular custom ROM for the users of OnePlus as well as Samsung and Oppo. Following that, the company started afresh and became LineageOS. Over the past couple of weeks, they have announced builds for a number of devices. Today, they have added six new custom ROMs for the OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 3, ZTE Axon 7 and three other devices.

The ROMs all have build number 14.1, a continuation from CyanogenMod’s 14.0, and are based on Android Nougat 7.1. The company has merged the files of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, so you will see it as one device. Alongside the ZTE Axon 7, the LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, HTC One M7 (GSM) and HTC One M7 (Verizon) have also gotten LineageOS 14.1.

LineageOS stats shows that the ROM for the OnePlus One (Bacon) is currently the most downloaded with a total of 35959. It is followed by Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon Variant) with 18835 downloads and Samsung’s Galaxy S5 with 17100 downloads.

The list of devices currently supported are impressive.
