While that may have been true for the several thousand units sold, that appears to no longer be the case.</p>
<p>A new report says some users have discovered that their OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R phones ship with the faster LPDDR5 RAM. The info comes from <a href="https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8t-oneplus-9r-shipping-faster-ram/"><em>XDA Developers</em></a> who have been able to confirm the info.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-402449" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OnePlus-8T-and-OnePlus-9R.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R" width="838" height="556" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OnePlus-8T-and-OnePlus-9R.jpg 838w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OnePlus-8T-and-OnePlus-9R-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OnePlus-8T-and-OnePlus-9R-768x510.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OnePlus-8T-and-OnePlus-9R-696x462.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OnePlus-8T-and-OnePlus-9R-633x420.jpg 633w" sizes="(max-width: 838px) 100vw, 838px" /></p>
<p>The change in RAM type was discovered by some users who tried to unbrick their phones using the MSMDownloadTool which doesn&#8217;t work with LPDDR5 RAM. While there is now a solution available for those with the faster RAM variant, the fact is that OnePlus is now selling both phones with a faster RAM than their spec sheet says.</p>
<p>You definitely won&#8217;t be able to tell before purchase if you will be getting the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus">OnePlus</a> 8T or OnePlus 9R with LPDDR4X RAM or LPDDR5 RAM. However, if you own one already, there is an easy way to find out the type of RAM the device has. <em>XDA Developers</em> says you have to run the command below if you have ADB installed on your PC:</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #008000;">adb shell getprop ro.boot.ddr_type</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">If it returns a “0”, you have the LPDDR4X RAM variant while “1” means you have LPDDR5 RAM.</span></p>
<p>The OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 8T are very closely related. The two major differences between them are the design and processor. So on both devices, you get a 6.55-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED screen, 48MP+16MP+5MP+2MP quad rear cameras, a 16MP front-facing camera, a 4500mAh battery capacity, and support for 65W fast charging. The OnePlus 8T has a <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-865">Snapdragon 865</a> processor while the OnePlus 9R is powered by the more powerful <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-870">Snapdragon 870</a>.</p>

<p>However, soon after this announcement, netizens on Weibo wondered whether <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> planned to use Samsung made <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/LPDDR5">LPDDR5</a> memory chips as well. This was a valid question given how the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/15/samsung-galaxy-s20-hands-on-video-leak-reveals-juicy-details/">Samsung Galaxy S20 series</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/03/more-nubia-red-magic-5g-phones-specs-leaks-has-a-64mp-camera/">Nubia&#8217;s Red Magic 5G flagship</a> are expected to use Samsung&#8217;s new memory chip. And yesterday night, Xiaomi&#8217;s CEO Lei Jun confirmed that the Mi 10 series will be using Samsung as well as Micron&#8217;s LPDDR5 memory chips.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>UP NEXT: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/06/realme-likely-to-launch-a-5g-flagship-smartphone-with-lpddr5-at-mwc-2020/">Realme likely to launch a 5G flagship smartphone with LPDDR5 memory at MWC 2020</a></strong></h6>
<p>Both <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> and Micron LPDDR5 memory chips promise speeds of up to 6.4 Gbps, which a significant 50% boost as compared to previous LPDDR4X generation. The new age chips also promise a 20-30% reduction in power consumption. And if <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> is supplying LPDD5 memory chips for the Xiaomi Mi 10, we can&#8217;t entirely rule out the possibility of the top-end variant featuring a Samsung made 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM. After all, Samsung had revealed that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/07/18/samsung-mass-production-12gb-lpddr5-mobile-dram-5g-phones/">it was working on a 16GB RAM module</a> for 2020.</p>
<figure id="attachment_276850" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-276850" style="width: 558px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Redmi-K20-Pro-512GB-Storage.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-276850" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Redmi-K20-Pro-512GB-Storage.jpg?x10805" alt="Redmi K20 Pro Exclusive Edition 512GB Storage" width="558" height="744" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Redmi-K20-Pro-512GB-Storage.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Redmi-K20-Pro-512GB-Storage-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Redmi-K20-Pro-512GB-Storage-315x420.jpg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 558px) 100vw, 558px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-276850" class="wp-caption-text">Even the Redmi K20 Pro Premium edition features <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/19/redmi-k20-pro-exclusive-edition-launched/">an extreme 12GB +512GB memory configuration</a></figcaption></figure>
<p>Xiaomi has never been shy to include high RAM modules inside its flagships. For example, its most recent <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/24/xiaomi-mi-9-pro-5g-launched-with-sd855-12-gb-ram-and-30w-wireless-charging-in-china/">Mi 9 Pro 5G has a 12 GB RAM variant</a> as well. So, it won&#8217;t be surprising to see a 16GB LPDDR5 RAM module in the top-end <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-10-pro-5g/">Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro</a> 5G model.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>UP NEXT: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/06/xiaomi-mi-10-series-base-model-will-have-8gb-ram-128gb-storage/">Xiaomi Mi 10 series&#8217; base model will have 8GB RAM + 128GB storage</a></strong></h6>
