This includes MacBooks, iMacs, iMac mini, and even the iPad Pro. Now, a new report has found that the iPad Pro with the company&#8217;s silicon has an irreparable security flaw.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-353316 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1.png?x44794" alt="Apple m1 chip" width="715" height="402" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1.png 715w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-696x391.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 715px) 100vw, 715px" /></p>
<p>According to developer <a href="https://m1racles.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hector Martin</a> (Via <a href="https://www.phonearena.com/news/apple-m1-security-vulnerability_id132376" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">PhoneArena</a>), the M1 based iPad Pro suffers from a vulnerability that exists on a hardware level of the M1. In other words, this is an issue that cannot be fixed through a simple software update. The Cupertino based giant has apparently violated an Arm architecture specification requirement as well. This means that there is no simple method of fixing the issue.</p>
<p>The developer further explained that the flaw basically allows two applications to covertly exchange data without using normal operating system features. While this is a vulnerability, it, fortunately, does not pose any serious security risks. Even in a worst case scenario this security risk would only enable advertisers for cross app tracking and can not be used by hackers to take control of one&#8217;s device or even steal sensitive information. Although, the flaw still violates the OS security model.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-385382 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/image.png?x44794" alt="Apple iPad Pro" width="817" height="435" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/image.png 817w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/image-300x160.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/image-768x409.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/image-696x371.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/image-789x420.png 789w" sizes="(max-width: 817px) 100vw, 817px" /></p>
<p>Furthermore, this issue affects every M1 device, which means it could even affect the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-12/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 12</a> series as well since the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-a14/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">A14 Bionic</a> is based on the same CPU microarchitecture. The developer said that the only way of fixing this is to run the entire operating system as a virtual machine (VM). But that is not exactly a feasible repair to the issue. Hector believes that the flaw could even affect the next generation <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/m1x-chip/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">M1X chipset</a> as well, but will be fixed in the following generation in the future.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.techradar.com/in/news/apple-m1-successor-tipped-to-bring-significant-gains-to-the-macbook-pro-16-inch-2021" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>TechRadar</em> </a>report, the Cupertino based giant is now readying to launch its upcoming 2021 MacBook Pro 16 inch with the new M1X chip. There were many reasons Apple had decided to shift to its own in house chips, like having a higher degree of optimization, lesser reliance on Intel&#8217;s update cycle for next gen chips, and others. The latest MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13 inch have arrived with the new M1 chip and would be the first of many future launches to feature the company&#8217;s custom chips.</p>

As per the tweet, the Apple M1X chip will feature 12 cores, comprising of 8 performance cores and 4 high efficiency cores. It would arrive on the 16 inch MacBook Pro and will soon be unveiled in a press release. The chipset is the US tech giant&#8217;s first ARM-based chip and brings improved performance and better battery life to its personal computers.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-353295" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple M1 Chip" width="3040" height="1700" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202.jpg 3040w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202-1024x573.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202-696x389.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202-1068x597.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202-751x420.jpg 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211202-1920x1074.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3040px) 100vw, 3040px" /></a></p>
<p>The new chip was unveiled alongside the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/10/apple-announces-new-macbook-air-and-macbook-13-pro-with-apple-m1-chipset/">MacBook Air and MacBook Pro</a> notebooks and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/11/apples-latest-mac-mini-packs-an-m1-chip-macos-big-sur-starts-at-699/">Mac mini desktop computer</a>, all of which are powered by the powerful chipset. Apple&#8217;s senior vice president of hardware technologies, Johny Srouji disclosed during the event that the company&#8217;s goal in creating the chip was to achieve &#8220;industry-leading performance and features while relentlessly focusing on performance efficiency.&#8221;</p>
<p>The company seems to have achieved that goal as the new M1 chip onboard the Macbook Air aids the provision of a good battery life which is said to be capable of withstanding up to 15 hours of web browsing and 18 hours of video. In terms of speed, the new processor is also touted to be three and a half times faster than the previous Intel-based model. The graphics speed also comes in five times faster, accoding to Apple. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-353296" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="3840" height="2160" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222.jpg 3840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201110_211222-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3840px) 100vw, 3840px" /></a></p>
<p>In terms of specs, the new M1 chip has a staggering 16 billion transistors, which is significantly higher than the 11.8 billion used in the iPhone 12&#8217;s A14 Bionic. The CPU core is also increased from six to an eight-core arrangement in order to boost the performance. Additionally, the M1 has four high-performance cores for heavy-duty work, compared to two on the iPhone 12, and four high-efficiency cores for low-priority tasks.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-353320" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple M1 chip features" width="3070" height="1728" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2.jpg 3070w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2-746x420.jpg 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/apple-m1-2-1920x1081.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3070px) 100vw, 3070px" /></a></p>
<p>Just like the chipsets on the iPhones and iPads, the Mac&#8217;s M1 chip features dedicated circuitry for graphics and artificial intelligence processing. These modules are linked with a unified memory architecture, eliminating the need for the PC to spend time copying data internally as it switches processing approaches. The memory chips, while separate from the brains of the operation, are housed within the same chip package alongside processor for better speed.</p>
