However, MacBooks have weaknesses. Traditional processors outperform M-series silicon in terms of software support. Nevertheless, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/17/windows-11-support-m1-m2-macs/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple is quickly catching up with its competitors</a>. Lastly, the release of the Linux 6.2 kernel brought a significant milestone for new Mac users. Here are the details…</p>

<h2><strong>Linux 6.2: The First Mainstream Linux Kernel for Apple M1 Chips Arrives</strong></h2>

<p>The release of the Linux 6.2 kernel brought with it a significant milestone for Apple Mac users. With upstream support for the Apple M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra chips, users with newer Macs can now run Linux on their machines. This is particularly exciting news for tech enthusiasts who have been eagerly waiting for Linux to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/17/windows-11-support-m1-m2-macs/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">run on the M1-powered machines</a>.</p>

<p>The release of the Linux 6.2 kernel brought with it a significant milestone for Mac users. With upstream support for the Apple M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra chips, users with newer Macs can now run Linux on their machines. This is particularly exciting news for tech enthusiasts who have been eagerly waiting for Linux to run on the M1-powered machines.</p>

<p>Fortunately, the Asahi Linux team, led by software engineer Alyssa Rosenzweig, was up to the challenge. By July 2022, Linux on ARM and the M1 became a reality. Today, this support is finally ready for mainline Linux users. The inclusion of M1 support in the Linux 6.2 kernel is expected to be a game-changer for Linux Mac users. While the support is still experimental at this point, it is expected to become the default kernel for Ubuntu 23.04 and to be included in Fedora 38 before the late April release of Linux 6.3.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="Apple M1 Linux" class="wp-image-517055" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-1536x864.webp 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-2048x1152.webp 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-1920x1080.webp 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/linux-6-2-offers-game-changing-support-for-apple-m1-powered-macs-2-747x420.webp 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>However, M1 support is not the only notable addition to the Linux 6.2 kernel. Contributions from companies such as Intel, AMD, Google, and Red Hat have resulted in numerous features being added to the kernel. For example, the kernel now includes stable support for Intel Arc Graphics and initial support for Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series &#8220;Ampere&#8221; accelerated graphics with Nouveau open-source code. </p>

<p>Updated drivers have also been included, such as support for Sony DualShock 4 gamepads, sensors, and fans in the OneXPlayer gaming handheld, Habana Labs&#8217; Gaudi2 AI accelerator, and Asus motherboards. Moreover, the Linux 6.2 kernel includes Call Depth Tracking to help improve performance on older Intel Skylake-era PCs, along with various file-system driver enhancements and security improvements. The NTFS3 file kernel driver has also been improved and updated with new mount options. Overall, the Linux 6.2 kernel provides significant new hardware enablement and features for Linux users.</p>

Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Benchmark Results Reveal Graphics Performance of M2 Pro and M2 Max Chips</strong></h2>

<p>According to scores on Geekbench, the M2 Pro with 19-core GPU and the M2 Max with 38-core GPU in the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MacBook-Pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MacBook Pro</a> offer about 30 percent higher graphics performance compared to the M1 Pro and M1 Max. This is in line with Apple&#8217;s advertising. Released high-end M1 Ultra chip Last year&#8217;s Mac Studio was still around 9% faster than the M2 Max. Here are the result of the every Apple M series chip: </p>

<p>Not just that, the <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2022-02-20/when-will-apple-aapl-launch-a-new-macbook-air-macbook-pro-imac-pro-in-2022-kzvdtgri">report from Mark Gurman</a> of Bloomberg&#8217;s <em>Power On</em> newsletter also goes on to add that with the introduction of the M2 chipset, the company will be launching four new Mac devices this year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-423110 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple Logo" width="5819" height="3879" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash.jpg 5819w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/laurenz-heymann-wAygsCk20h8-unsplash-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 5819px) 100vw, 5819px" /></p>
<p>The Macs expected to get launched later this year include the 13-inch <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-macbook-pro">MacBook Pro</a>, a 24-inch iMac, and a redesigned MacBook Air. As noted all these devices will be updated to the M2 chipset as all of them are already powered by the M1 processor.</p>
<p>Currently there&#8217;s not much known about the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-m2">M2 chipset</a> and nothing has been revealed by Apple but the report indicates that the M2 will be slightly faster than the M2 chipset and will have the same eight-core architecture but the graphics cores may get increased from seven or either to nine or 10.</p>
<p>It is also said that the Cupertino-based tech giant may launch the Pro and Max version of the M2 chip next year, similar to what the company did with the M1 chipset. Also, it is also expected to launch the M3 chip next year.</p>
<p>Apple is moving away from Intel-powered Mac devices to its own Apple Silicon and to complete the process, the company is expected to launch a new 27-inch iMac Pro which will be powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/18/apple-announces-m1-pro-and-m1-max-chips-and-new-macbook-pro-with-notches/">M1 Pro or M1 Max</a> processor. There are also reports about the M1-powered Mac Mini to get a Pro model powered by M1 Pro or M1 Max, in addition to a new model powered by the M2 chipset.</p>

<p>There have been few leaks about the upcoming 27-inch Apple iMac Pro and now the <a href="https://twitter.com/DSCCRoss/status/1493274813594546177">latest report indicates</a> that the Cupertino-based technology giant could officially launch this new Mac sometime in the month of June.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-385392 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/The-new-iMac.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple iMac" width="836" height="456" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/The-new-iMac.jpg 836w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/The-new-iMac-300x164.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/The-new-iMac-768x419.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/The-new-iMac-696x380.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/The-new-iMac-770x420.jpg 770w" sizes="(max-width: 836px) 100vw, 836px" /></p>
<p>Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants claims that the Mini-LED iMac Pro could launch in June 2022. This could mean that the new iMac Pro might get unveiled at Apple&#8217;s Worldwide Developers Conference.</p>
<p>Earlier, there were reports that the product could go official <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/02/01/apple-m1-imac-pro-mini-led-launch-summer/">sometime in summer</a> this year. Based on the reports so far, the upcoming iMac Pro will come with a revamped design and upgraded specifications.</p>
<p>The 27-inch <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mini-led">Mini LED display</a> could have support for a 120Hz refresh rate. It is said that the device will feature a design similar to the 24-inch iMac which is powered by an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-m1">M1 chipset</a>.  It is expected to come powered by the recently announced M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets from Apple, the same processors that are powering the 14-inch and 16-inch <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-macbook-pro">MacBook Pro</a> models launched last year.</p>
<p>Apart from the Apple iMac Pro, the company is gearing up to launch several new products throughout this year, including the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-airpods-pro">AirPods Pro 2</a>, M2 chipset, new MacBook models powered by a new processor, and much more.</p>

<p>Ever since the launch of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/11/apples-latest-mac-mini-packs-an-m1-chip-macos-big-sur-starts-at-699/">M1-powered Mac Mini</a>, there have been rumors about a more powerful Mac Mini being under work. Now, a new report hints that the more powerful model could go official later this year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-353353 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Mac-mini-with-M1-chip.jpg?x44794" alt="Mac mini with M1 chip" width="1440" height="810" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Mac-mini-with-M1-chip.jpg 1440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Mac-mini-with-M1-chip-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Mac-mini-with-M1-chip-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Mac-mini-with-M1-chip-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Mac-mini-with-M1-chip-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Mac-mini-with-M1-chip-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Mac-mini-with-M1-chip-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /></p>
<p>According to the <a href="https://twitter.com/dylandkt/status/1485311433793490953">report from <em>@dylandkt</em></a>, the first event of Apple in 2022 could have an upgraded Mac Mini powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/18/apple-announces-m1-pro-and-m1-max-chips-and-new-macbook-pro-with-notches/">M1 Pro and M1 Max chips</a>. It is also being said that the product will have a new design.</p>
<p>If the previous reports are to be believed, then it will have a thinner body with a polycarbonate top, an increase in the ports at the back, and a magnetic power connection.</p>
<p>The new Mac Mini isn&#8217;t the only device that Apple is expected to launch at the spring event in the coming months. It is also expected to launch a new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone-se">iPhone SE</a> with 5G connectivity support, an updated <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-ipad-air-2020/">iPad Air</a>, and a bunch of other products.</p>
<p>However, the highlight could be the highly-anticipated <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-imac-pro">iMac Pro</a> which is said to be still on track to get launched during the spring event. It is also expected to be powered by the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, but we&#8217;ll have to wait for the official launch as the production delay or issues may affect the devices set to go official during the spring launch event.</p>
