Apple has officially claimed that the M1 and M2-powered Macs can only support one external display. However, the Mac Mini with M1 can support up to two external displays. Clearly, the external display support for the latest generation of Macs is kind of limited. Addressing the following problem, Plugable has launched its all-new USB-C or USB 3.0 to Quad HDMI Adapter. This new adapter claims to extend the external display support limitations on Macs.

Plugable has released its USB Type-C or USB 3.0 to Quad HDMI Adapter (USBD-768H4). The brand claims that it can support up to four external monitors via HDMI. Apple M1 and M2-powered Macs are also included in this. To use the adapter, your device should be running Windows 10 or macOS 11 and above. According to the claim made by the company, it can extend the number of support for the external display on Macs. Their claim goes above what Apple has officially revealed.

According to Plugable’s statement, the adapter can boost M1 and M2 monitor support because it does not rely on Alt Mode. Instead, the adapter makes use of a Silicon Motion chipset, which is well-known for producing NAND flash controllers for SSDs, as well as a software driver. So this is probably how the adapter is able to increase the number of external display support for Macs.

According to Silicon Motion’s InstantView website, “when a dock is connected every time, it will automatically enable the monitor to display the laptop screen without any user intervention.” Docks from Accell and Wavlink are two other products that employ InstantView. And don’t expect it to build a pixel paradise full of high-resolution screens. Each of the four monitors connected through HDMI is limited to 1920*1080 resolution at a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Even with all ports enabled, Mac users will be restricted to the number of pixels available on a single 4K panel.

According to a DigiTimes report (Via 9To5Mac), industry sources close to the matter have anonymously revealed that the world’s largest contract chipmaker has started “pilot production” of its 3nm chip technology. Meanwhile, the actual volume production is slated for Q4 2022. In other words, we can expect products launching in 2023 from the Cupertino based giant to feature this technology as well.

This could include the 2023 iPhone along with new Mac PCs. While initial rumors had hinted that the iPhone 14 series might feature the new 3nm based A series chips, although recent reports have revealed that this might not be the case. As per our previous report, Apple might not launch the iPhone 14 series with a 3nm chip as TSMC is facing a production constraints. In other words, the 2022 iPhone might still feature a 5nm process technology for the next A series chipset.

For those unaware, all current gen Apple silicon including the A14, M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max are built on the 5nm process technology. But with its primary chip supplier faces issues in production amid a global semiconductor shortage, its likely that the 3nm Apple chips will also be delayed by a year as well.

The new version of the operating system brings tons of new features which users are excited about. However, new information has revealed that a lot of these features will not be available for Intel-powered Macs.

Last November, Apple announced the first set of Macs powered by its M1 chip. While it promised that it will continue to support those powered by Intel chips for years to come, this new development means that these devices will miss out on certain features available on those powered by Apple chips.

Here are the macOS Monterey features not coming to the Intel Macsas reported by The Verge:

FaceTime’s Portrait Mode

Live Text

Detailed maps for cities such as London, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco

Offline, on-device dictation

Unlimited time on-device dictation

Apple has also stated which features will be made available for the different macs based on their year of release or configuration such as RAM and VRAM. Do check out the page to know which features will be made available for your device.
