The head of HTech has just revealed its plans for upcoming Honor launches. The company is gearing up for a new release later this year and a major announcement for next year as well. So here’s everything shared by the HTech CEO, Madhav Sheth.

An Honor foldable phone launches in H1 2024

In an interview with Financial Express, the senior official shed some light on upcoming Honor launches. Madhav Sheth said that the next Honor branded smartphone, following the Honor 90 (review), will be announced around the end of this year. In other words, a new device could be unveiled in December 2023. Unfortunately, he did not confirm the exact model that will be unveiled or hint at its pricing details.

Honor 90

Furthermore, Sheth also confirmed HTech’s plans to begin Honor smartphone production in India by the first quarter of next year. It is already in talks with three manufacturing partners but has yet to sign a contract deal. A notable piece of information shared during the interview was the arrival of a foldable smartphone in India. But again, the exact details as to which model will be announced are still unclear. Although, it is likely a part of its Magic V series.

Honor’s future plans will include expansion in the offline market as well. Apart from the roadmap, the HTech executive also talked about other brands and expressed his disappointment with brands like Vivo, Samsung, iQOO, Realme, Oppo, and OnePlus. He specifically pointed out these companies for launching the same device under a different name and channel.

Former Realme India CEO, Global VP of Realme, and President of Realme International Business Group Madhav Sheth has officially announced his departure from the company. He announced his resignation on his Twitter handle. The development follows last week’s report of him joining HONOR India although the executive has not revealed his future plans in the farewell announcement.

Madhav Sheth quits Realme

Madhav Sheth has been a part of Realme since its inception way back in 2018. He rose through the ranks as he was made the President of the company’s new international business unit in 2021 and the Global VP earlier in March this year. Sheth’s departure from Realme comes after a successful five-year stint at the company.

During his tenure, Sheth played an integral role in establishing the brand’s presence in the Indian as well as European markets. With him, the brand had many notable achievements including the fastest-growing smartphone brand in India and attaining the position of the second-largest smartphone brand in the country.

In his farewell note, Sheth said that the government of India has taken steps towards enhancing Indian exports and he is happy to be a part of it. He wants to contribute toward’s the country’s export business. However, Sheth’s future plans remain unknown. It will interesting to see if he joins HONOR India to resurrect their smartphone business in the country.

Sheth also revealed that Realme’s Founder and CEO Sky Li will now oversee the Indian market. He will continue to be a strong supporter and strategic advisor to Realme.

Additionally, the company’s director-level executives across online and offline verticals are also expected to follow Sheth at HONOR India.

HONOR might comeback in Indian market as Madhav Sheth set to join the company

Earlier in March this year, Sheth was made the Global VP of Realme. This meant that he was no longer the CEO of the company’s India branch. The India business was entrusted to Nisar Naikoo and Dipesh Punamiya, who would manage it independently.

Additionally, before this, there were also rumors that the executive had resigned from his role which were denied. Sheth has been a part of Realme since its inception in 2018 and has played an integral role in establishing the brand’s presence in the Indian as well as European markets by introducing consumer products with innovative technologies. However, the executive has been noticeably absent from Realme’s launches in India including the recent Realme 11 Pro 5G series.

The development at Realme comes at a significant time when the Indian smartphone market is undergoing changes with Apple and Samsung solidifying their positions. Chinese brands are increasingly facing challenges.

Huawei sold off its HONOR smartphone business to China-based Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co Ltd in 2020. However, the brand still announced that it is committed to the Indian market and offering products beyond smartphones in the laptops and wearables segment.

Both Realme and Huawei are yet to provide an official statement on this development. Madhav Sheth has also not shared any announcement. It will be intresting to see HONOR’s rival in the Indian market under the solid leadership of Sheth.

Earlier this week, we had reported on rumors that the head of Realme India Madhav Sheth had apparently resigned from his position. These rumors were later denied by company representatives but it appears that the senior official is leaving and taking up a new role.

For those unaware, Madhav Sheth played an integral role in helping the Chinese smartphone maker establish a presence in the Indian market. The rumors had hinted that Sheth was resigning and would be succeeded by Michael Guo. While these rumors had been denied, it appears there was one aspect that were true. Madhav Sheth is no longer the Chief Executive Officer of Realme India but has taken on a more global role.

In a new tweet, Sheth announced that he is excited to take on a new role as the company’s Vice President for Business and Corporate Strategy (Global). He further added that he is “Excited to take this opportunity and contribute to company’s success.” It is unclear how exactly his role would change in the company. But he would likely be building strategies for the global market, rather than simply focusing on the Indian market, which is a key region for the brand.

Madhav Sheth boasts 17 years of experience as a business leader and has already won several awards for his contributions. He is already responsible for strategy developments, product engineering, business development, market operations, and brand building initiatives, and more. So we can expect this role to be further expanded to impact the company on a broader scale.

Out of these four possible models, Realme will also be launching a new 5G enabled smartphone under the 15,000 INR (roughly 190 US Dollars) price range. According to Madhav Sheth, this is a “much needed addition especially ahead of India’s 5G rollout expected to happen in the second half of 2022.”

However, the entry level segments have yet to see the same level of 5G penetration. While Realme had plans on changing this, it appears that an affordable budget 5G phone is still sometime away.

According to Madhav Sheth, CEO of the Chinese brand’s Indian unit, it will be difficult for the company to launch a 5G enabled handset in the region that is priced under 10,000 INR (roughly 130 US Dollars). The senior executive further added that the company is actively working on lowering the price tag of a 5G phone without compromising on specifications and performance. However, this is not a simple task and it will likely take sometime to achieve.

In other words, there is currently no set timeline for Realme’s first affordable 5G phone as of right now. The top official told ET that “We have to make more affordable 5G devices. We want to be a prominent hardware provider for the government’s digitization vision with 5G. There are no new 4G chips in the making, so if you need any good performance phone, we have to bring in 5G chips. For brands, the biggest challenge is not to compromise on other specs by making 5G more affordable.”

Furthermore, Sheth added that while the sub 10,000 INR 5G model in 2022 is difficult, it might be possible next year since “we have already started seeing the democratization of 5G technology.” The CEO also believes that 5G shouldn’t be used as a marketing tool to sell your device and continued to talk about the ongoing supply chain issues. He said that the gap between demand and supply is much better than before.

Now, the device is confirmed to soon get launched in the Indian market. This was confirmed by Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India, VP of Realme, and President of Realme International Business Group.

Apart from this 5G support, nothing more about the phones has been revealed by the company’s executive. However, several details about the Realme 9 Pro series have already leaked online, including specs and features.

The Realme 9 Pro is expected to have a 6.59-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate while the Pro+ model will have a 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, which is quite odd as going by the phone’s name, the Pro+ model should have a higher refresh rate.

Under the hood, the 9 Pro will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC while the Pro+ model will come powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 920 chipset.

In the camera department, there will be a triple-camera setup on both these upcoming smartphones, featuring a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide angle lens, and a 2MP macro sensor while the Pro+ model will replace the 64MP lens with a 50MP sensor.

On the front side, both smartphones will come with a 16MP snapper for taking selfies and video calling, housed inside a punch-hole cutout. The 9 Pro will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support while the Pro+ will pack a 4,500mAh battery and have 65W fast charging support.

He has also talked about a new “ultra-premium flagship” smartphone under the Realme GT series but the launch timeline of that device has not been revealed. It isn’t clear if this is the smartphone that will feature this ultra-fast charging technology.

The Realme 125W UltraDart Fast Charging technology can charge a 4,000mAh battery up to 33 percent in just 3 minutes. To achieve such fast charging speed, it is said that Realme is using a three-way charging solution.

The three-way charge simultaneously pumps step-down voltage to maximize the charging power and effectively reduce heat dissipation. The charging solution and the entire charging process has been optimized for cooling, says the company, which results in an ultra-high conversion rate of 98 percent.

Further, the new charging system adopts a flip-chip structure that shortens the current path between the Type-C port and reduces the heat source. It also adopts an ultra-thin VC soaking plate with high heat conduction efficiency to quickly absorb and disperse the heat energy during the process.

The technology is also backward-compatible with VOOC, Dart, Warp, SuperVOOC, SuperVOOC 2.0, and SuperDart charging protocols. It supports up to 125W PPS protocol fast charging, 65W PD protocol fast charging, and 36W QC protocol fast charging.

Ahead of the launch, Realme’s CEO has shared a photo of the phone.

The Realme 8s 5G is shown in blue in the photo and while we can only see the rear side, there are a number of details it reveals. For starters, the Realme 8s 5G will have triple rear cameras even though the camera array is set up to look like there are four sensors. This is the same design as that of the Realme 8 5G.

We can also see the indentation on the side of the frame where the power button is positioned, which confirms that the Realme 8s 5G will have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The volume buttons are on the left side of the frame.

In this photo, the phone is shown in blue with a light streak that runs from the top to the bottom of the phone. However, we expect there will be other colors at launch.

Apart from having a Dimensity 810 processor, it has been reported that the Realme 8s 5G will have a 6.5-inch screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. The processor will be paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.

At the time, the company said that it was aiming to have a global user base of 100 million users by the end of this year. Realme has now achieved that goal well ahead of its deadline.

Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India and Europe has revealed that the company now has more than 100 million users globally. Out of those 100 million users, around 50 million are from India, making it the biggest market for the brand.

This isn’t surprising given that Realme was started in India as a sub-brand of OPPO and during the initial years, the company was present exclusively in India. It’s been a couple of years since Realme started expanding to other regions around the world.

The brand is now gearing up to launch new smartphones in the Indian market, as revealed in the latest episode of #AskMadhav. The company will be launching the Realme GT series on 18th August in India, which includes Realme GT 5G, GT Neo, GT Master Edition, and GT Master Explorer Edition. It is expected to have a starting price of around ₹30,000 (~$404).

Realme has unveiled its latest concept smartphone named Realme Flash, touted as the world’s first Android phone to come with support for magnetic wireless charging. The company has also launched two models of Realme MagDart magnetic wireless chargers but there’s no information about pricing and availability in the market.

Realme is one of the manufacturers that has focused on releasing affordable 5G phones, and by setting a limit for devices that have 4G connectivity, it can turn its focus to 5G smartphones. The above statement was revealed in a tweet by the top executive earlier today but we do not know if it has any such price limit for other markets.

I promise #realmeFans that going forward all the new realme products above 15K will be 5G only!
Flagbearer of realme’s 5G plans, #realmeGT will launch in this quarter with multiple GT products
We will also expand narzo series since it is truly the #DemocratizerOf5G pic.twitter.com/k5BNXkP5jY

— Madhav Max 5G (@MadhavSheth1) July 7, 2021

With the new price benchmark, it is safe to say that the Realme C series, which is its most affordable line, will stick to 4G. We should also see some models of the Narzo line as well as its number series continue to offer 4G connectivity. The Realme X series and higher-specced models of the number and Narzo series will be the ones with 5G.

It is no surprise that Realme is focusing on 5G smartphones. Counterpoint Research, ranked it as the No.1 5G smartphone brand in India for the month of May. It will want to retain the title by providing more models for buyers. The CEO revealed that it has converted 90% of its R&D resources to the development of 5G technology and products. It also plans to invest $300 million globally in 5G research and product development.

Mr. Sheth has also confirmed that the Realme GT will launch in India this quarter and it will come alongside “multiple GT products”. The brand also plans to announce more 5G Narzo phones.

Now, the Chinese brand is gearing up to enter a new product category with the launch of its first-ever laptop which has now been officially teased by Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India and Europe.

The teaser image shows that the laptop from Realme will have a metal build and silver color that seems too similar to the MacBook lineup from Apple. Apart from that, nothing more has been revealed by the company so far. Along with the teaser, Madhav Sheth has shared a message in binary code, which reads out the phrase “Hello World!”

A couple of months ago, it was revealed that Realme could soon be launching several new products in the market, including a MeowBook laptop, Meow AI speaker, and Meow VR glasses. This means that the upcoming laptop, which has been teased by the company, could be named MeowBook.

It remains to be seen if the laptops are powered by Intel or AMD chips. We are expecting multiple RAM and storage configurations for the upcoming device. Given that none of Realme’s parent or sister companies make laptops, it’s most likely that the brand will be relying on ODMs. One thing is for sure that the notebook will run Windows 10 operating system out-of-the-box.

Earlier this year, reports indicated that the Realme laptop could be launched in June this year and in line with that, the teaser of the laptop has now been unveiled by the company. Going by this, the official launch could be just a few days or weeks away.

Realme seems to be following the strategy of Xiaomi and Redmi which have entered almost all categories of consumer electronics. Once launched, the Realme laptop will compete against the likes of Mi Notebook and RedmiBook with competitive pricing.

India is yet to start 5G trials in the country but smartphones in the upper-midrange to premium segment come with 5G support. But, phone manufacturers are aiming to capture a wider maker share with 5G support in budget phones.

Realme 8 5G

In line with that, Madhav Sheth, Vice President of Realme and CEO of Realme India and Europe has revealed that the brand is planning to launch a 5G smartphone priced under ₹10,000 ($137) by the end of next year, i.e. 2022.

This was revealed in the first edition of Realme Global 5G Summit which was hosted in partnership with Counterpoint Research, GSMA, and Qualcomm. At the event, the company gave us an insight into their plans for the industry going forward.

Realme’s plan of launching a ₹10,000 5G smartphone seems a bit ambitious but it’s quite possible given that the company already has a budget 5G smartphone priced under ₹15,000 in the Indian market — Realme 8 5G, which costs ₹14,999.

At the summit, the company pledged to bring the technology to more users worldwide. In 2020, Realme launched 14 5G phones in 21 markets, accounting for around 40 percent of all its products. By 2022, Realme aims to increase the number of its 5G product offerings to over 20, upping the ratio to 70 percent across 50 markets.

The Chinese company is aiming to have 100 million 5G phone consumers within the next three years and to reach that target, it is planning to establish over 10 5G pop-up stores around the world in 2021 where potential customers will be able to experience 5G through cloud gaming, augmented reality (AR), and live broadcasting, among others.

Unfortunately, the senior executive has only confirmed the existence of the smartwatch and did not divulge any finer details. So, it is unknown if the realme Watch will feature the Wear OS or support various third party applications and more. Although, the poster reveal of the timeline does suggest that the dial of the smartwatch will be in a circular format.

Realme will launch various different products in the arriving months, with its fitness bands, Realme Buds Air Neo and even a Realme TV. With competition in the smartphone market growing more each passing day, OEMs now have to diversify in other industries as well to stay relevant by offering cross platform integration (something Apple popularized and made possible first).

For the pricing, it is still unknown but looking at the strategy Realme has been following so far, it can be expected to be competitively priced.
Update: the realme TV has been confirmed to launch sometime in Q2 of 2020, while certain other information regarding the company’s IoT product portfolio has also been divulged. There have been rumors flying around about the design and features of the watch, sadly, most have been false. Today, we now have official info about when the device will launch.

In the latest episode of AskMadhav (episode 14), the CEO was asked when the Realme fitness tracker will be launched. The top executive revealed that the fitness tracker will be unveiled next month, unsurprisingly, he didn’t disclose the exact date.

The Realme fitness band should be an affordable fitness tracker that will take on Xiaomi’s Mi Band series as well as Honor and Huawei’s own fitness trackers too.

Other information revealed in the video include the arrival of Android 10 for the Realme 5i in May 2020; no bokeh mode video for Realme 3 Pro due to lack of hardware and software features; and an OTA update to fix the background noise issue affecting the Realme Buds Air. However, the update will not roll out until March. He also revealed that the yellow and black color variants of the TWS earbuds will be available next month. he also added that all realme phones launched this year will receive security updates for two years.

However, the rumors come to rest now after Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth clarified in AMA video.

In the video, Madhav Sheth clarified that the company isn’t working on a smartphone with a 48MP camera sensor and further added that Realme has no plans to launch a phone with such high megapixel-count camera sensor anytime soon.

In the statement debunking rumors of 48MP camera smartphone, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said:

For Realme, we are not going to adopt the high megapixel just for the sake of launching it because we believe that camera tuning and software optimization is even more important. We always strive to give our users the best combination of both hardware and software.

He further said that all the upcoming smartphone from the company will run Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box. When asked about the Android Pie update for the existing smartphone models, he said that the company will follow the given timeline.

When inquired about the phone cases, Madhav Sheth said that the existing phones won’t get official mobile covers but the company may offer official phone cases for the upcoming smartphones. He also added that Realme could also launch a power bank.

Realme India CEO further added that the company plans to launch many new smartphone models in Q1 and Q2. Recently, it was reported that the company is working on Realme 3 which is scheduled to launch by the end of Q1 2019, i.e. by March this year.

Recently, when some users demanded a dedicated app store for Realme users on its community, the company responded to that by saying that it is considering to launch its own app store. When launched, the app store will work as an alternative to the Google Play Store for users to download apps and games.

Realme is a new smartphone brand launched last year after splitting from Oppo and has already made its mark in the budget smartphone segment in India — one of the biggest smartphone markets globally. The company has even expanded to six other geographies — Malaysia, Vietnam, the Phillippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Egypt.

Realme India CEO Madhav Seth said through Twitter that the brand has been on a backfoot because of the declining margins mainly due to the falling of Rupee. He further hinted that the company could hike prices post-Diwali to make up for the margins.

The Indian Rupee has been tumbling since the beginning of the year and has now touched a record low of Rs. 72.84 against USD. This increases the company’s cost for importing which in turn hits the company’s margin which probably is pretty low in such a competitive market. Also, most components are bought in US dollars from other countries, such as China and Japan, among others.

While the post from Realme India CEO does not currently say whether the price hike will be for all products or a particular offering, it seems pretty certain that the company will increase the pricing after the Diwali festival.

In the twitter post, Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India said:

The rupee rates are falling and as a brand, we actually work on low margins. It indicates that we might have to upgrade the pricing, just to make sure that we continue to give you the best technology in our upcoming offerings. We are trying to figure out a solution post-Diwali.

This is the second smartphone manufacturer who has hinted about the price increase post-Diwali in India. Recently, during the Redmi 6 line-up launch in India in September, Xiaomi hinted towards price hike and said that it’ll wait for a few months to see how INR performs against USD before taking such a move. Given that the Rupee is still falling, it seems that Xiaomi will increase the price of its products after Diwali.

Realme started off as an online-only sub-brand of China-based Oppo but later split from its parent company to work as an independent brand. Apart from selling its phones through its official website and other online marketplaces such as Amazon and Flipkart, it also partnered with Reliance Digital for selling its phones through offline stores.

So far, the company has launched four smartphones — Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro and Realme C1. The company has posted pretty impressive numbers, highlighting the newly-formed company’s popularity in the budget smartphone segment. The company claims to have sold more than 2 million phones during the Big Billion Days and Festive Dhamaka Sale on Flipkart.

Till date, the Realme 2 has been the brand’s bestselling phone, having sold more than 1 million devices in just 40 days of the launch. It also claims to have sold over 110,000 units of Realme C1 entry-level phone in just one second during Flipkart’s sale.

Meanwhile, the company has already announced that it’ll be the first smartphone brand to launch a phone powered by MediaTek’s newly announced Helio P70 octa-core chipset that promises a 13 percent performance improvement compared to the Helio P60.
