OPPO Will Launch Its MariSilicon X Gen 2 Imaging Chipset on OPPO INNO DAY 2022 Event

OPPO previously stated that their OPPO INNO DAY 2022 event would take place on December 14th, 2022. The firm will make other amazing innovations and technology-related announcements at the event. Anyway, OPPO has now revealed that its second generation image chipset, the MariSilicon X Gen 2, will be unveiled at the same event. The upgraded photography chipset is likely to significantly improve OPPO’s picture processing.

The company also stated that the chipset will deliver “breakthrough” developments aimed at numerous innovations in key technology factors including photography. In 2019, OPPO announced a 50 billion yuan investment over three years in cutting-edge technology research and development, and proposed a 3+N+X technology transition strategy in 2020, with 3 representing OPPO’s three core technologies—Mariana and Pantanal, Andes, corresponding to OPPO’s chip business, software engineering, and cloud services, respectively.

OPPO’s founder and CEO, Chen Mingyong, once stated that technology businesses must tackle fundamental challenges utilising key technologies and that the company will continue to devote resources in the future, employing thousands of people to produce self-developed semiconductors. According to reports, the OPPO Mariana self-developed chip team was established in October 2019. The team currently numbers thousands of people and is still under construction and expansion. In an interview in November 2022, Liu Bo, vice president of OPPO and president of China, said that the shipment of Mariana MariSilicon X had surpassed 10 million and that more orders had been taken since then.

The device that will be the first to use the chipset will be announced as soon as the chipset is officially launched. It’s most likely the next OPPO Find X series smartphone or an OPPO Reno series handset. We may soon learn more about the new OPPO Find X smartphone series. It will have top-tier specifications and the company’s best possible smartphone experience.

Oppo is holding a major launch event in India this week to reveal the company’s latest electronic products for the Indian market, which include its next-generation of Oppo Reno smartphones, wireless earphones and an affordable Android tablet.

Dubbed the “OPPOverse” launch event, the launch event will be live-streamed on the Chinese tech brand’s official regional Indian YouTube channel. The live stream starts tomorrow July 18th at 6 pm New Delhi Time (GMT +5:30) / 1:30 pm London Time (GMT +1) / 8:30 am New York Time (GMT -4)

Oppo has announced that the company will be launching 3 new product lines at the “OPPOverse” launch event tomorrow. The products aforementioned are respectively the latest Oppo Reno 8 series of mid-range smartphones, the company’s shiniest and newest Oppo Enco X2 wireless ANC earbuds, and a new yet affordable Android tablet from the brand called the Oppo Pad Air.

Oppo Reno 8 Series

The Oppo Reno 8 series is expected to be the highlight of the event. The Oppo Reno 8 series is placed in the mid-range category of devices offered in the brand’s smartphone portfolio. It is the successor to the popular selling Oppo Reno 7 series launched last year.

Oppo will launch two Reno 8 models in the Indian market, the standard Oppo Reno 8, and the Oppo Reno 8 Pro. The former will launch with a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC under the hood, while the latter will feature MediaTek Dimensity 8100 MAX flagship SoC.

However, the MediaTek SoCs are not the only silicon powering the Oppo Reno 8 series. Oppo has revealed that the company’s own in-house developed Marisilicon X NPU will also be present in the Oppo Reno 8 series to bring the camera performance of these smartphones to the next level.

Both smartphones will also sport the flagship 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor in its triple camera setup, which is the same main sensor used in the company’s flagships like the Oppo Find X5 Pro and Oppo Find X3 Pro.

Oppo Enco X2 and Oppo Pad Air

Besides the Reno smartphones, Oppo will also be launching the Oppo Enco X2 and Oppo Pad Air in the Indian market tomorrow as well.

Oppo Enco X2

The Oppo Enco X2 are the company’s latest generation of TWS wireless earbuds which feature active noise cancellation, wireless charging as well as a lightweight and ergonomic design.

The Oppo Enco X2 earbuds were launched earlier in the year in China with an in-ear style construction. Compared to its predecessor, the newer Oppo Enco X2 brings some notable upgrades such as support for Bluetooth 5.2, low latency 94ms Bluetooth transmission, IP54 dust and water resistance, and noise cancellation that can filter out noises of up to 45dB.

When paired with the charging case, the battery life of these earbuds can reach up to 20 hours with ANC on or 27 hours with ANC off. Buyers will also be glad to know that the earbuds support both USB-C wired charging, and Qi Wireless Charging to top up the battery.

Oppo Pad Air

As for the Oppo Pad Air, it is the brand’s first-ever Android tablet in the Indian market. From what we have gathered so far, we know that the Oppo Pad Air will be featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 chipset, a 10.36-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution along with a 7100 mAh battery.

Oppo Reno 8 series to feature MariSilicon X NPU for improved camera performance

Oppo is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated Reno 8 series of smartphone in India soon. But prior to its release, the company revealed an interesting addition to the upcoming smartphones, which is its new MariSilicon X NPU.

For those unaware, the Chinese smartphone maker had announced this chip back in December 2021 for its flagship Find X series. Now, this same NPU will be making its way to the Reno 8 series as well. While there were rumors that had revealed this information before, the brand has officially shared the news along with some improvements in its MariSilicon X platform. As per official notes, the 6nm MariSilicon X NPU will help bring end to end imaging solution on the Reno 8 series.

Thanks to proprietary algorithms, the company has developed a new way to better render Indian skin tones accurately and even create Bokeh Flare Portrait videos as well. Oppo’s AI can even distinguish between skin blemishes and beauty spots, while smartly applying different level of beautification and skin smoothening based on the age and sex of the subject. Its optimizations for the Indian market will also help improve HDR performance across wide exposure shots without user intervention.

Talking about the NPU itself, the company took 3 years to develop the chipset and it consisted of over 400 patent applications. It packs 3.6 billion transistors and can perform up to 18 trillion operations per second (18 TOPS). It is built on the 6nm process and is also capable of real time lossless AI processing in the Bayer RAW domain with images taken from the 50 megapixel IMX766 primary camera.

The Oppo Reno 8 Pro recently went official in China alongside the Oppo Reno 8 and the Oppo Reno 8 Pro Plus. Apart from a new design, the smartphone also comes with a few upgrades. Let’s take a look at these improvements in this article.

The Oppo Reno 8 Pro is here six months after the announcement of the Oppo Reno 7 Pro. Within this short period, the company has managed to introduce some upgrades that are worth noting.

The first major difference between the two phones is their design, But we are not going to discuss that here. Instead, let’s talk about the features that set them apart.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro: 3 Notable Upgrades

Larger and Brighter Display

The Oppo Reno 8 Pro flaunts a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and up to a 120Hz refresh rate. This panel supports up to a 360Hz touch sampling rate and 1300 nits peak brightness.

Whereas, the Oppo Reno 7 Pro has a smaller 6.55-inch AMOLED display with the same resolution. Further, the screen on this phone only supports up to a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, and 920 nits peak brightness.

Brand New Chipset

The Oppo Reno 8 Pro is the world’s first smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. This chipset is accompanied by the company’s in-house MariSilicon X ISP chip for image processing.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 includes an octa-core CPU comprising of new Cortex-A710 and Cortex-A510 cores. For the unaware, these ARM cores are the successors of Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 present in the Mediatek Dimensity 1200 SoC that powers the Oppo Reno 7 Pro.

Faster Charging

The 65W charging on the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G is fast enough for most people. On the Oppo Reno 8 Pro, the charging is even faster at 80W.

Anyway, the overall charging time from 1%-100% is still 31 minutes. It’s that the new model can reach 1%-45% in just 10 minutes.
