Tim Cook is not stepping down as Apple CEO anytime soon. Despite a recent report from the Financial Times claiming Cook may exit between January and June 2026, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has called the timeline premature and inaccurate.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said he would be “shocked” if Cook leaves by mid-2026. He noted that there are currently no internal signs suggesting a leadership transition is about to happen. Cook, who turned 65 this month, remains actively involved in Apple’s product roadmap, including its upcoming AI push.

Gurman confirmed that Apple has been planning for Cook’s eventual departure. John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, remains the top internal candidate to succeed Cook. Ternus leads development for iPhone, Mac, and Vision Pro and has taken on more responsibilities in recent months.

The Financial Times report claimed that Apple could announce Cook’s exit plan before WWDC 2026 to ensure a smooth handoff. Gurman disagreed, stating that the story did not come from sources with direct knowledge and was not part of any internal communication strategy. He also dismissed theories that the story was a deliberate leak to test public reaction.

Gurman also said that given Apple’s tremendous success under Cook, he has earned the right to decide his own future. After stepping down, Cook is expected to remain as Chairman of the board, allowing him to influence Apple’s direction for years to come.

Cook has led Apple since 2011, following the death of Steve Jobs. Under his leadership, Apple became the first $3 trillion company and launched major products including the Apple Watch, AirPods, M-series Macs, and Vision Pro.

Apple Vision Pro is not a polished product yet

Gurman’s sources within Apple’s Vision Products Group reportedly believe the device is far from its “ideal form” and could require four generations of refinement before truly exceeding customer expectations for everyday use. While the exact definition of this “ideal form” remains unclear, concerns from early adopters offer some clues.

Headset weight, battery life, app scarcity, and software bugs plague the current iteration. Users find extended wear uncomfortable, and the limited app ecosystem hinders its versatility. Gurman draws parallels to Apple’s historical approach, suggesting four generations of improvement similar to the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch could propel Vision Pro to eventually replace the iPad.

The views also align with Elon Musk’s perspective, which he shared last week on X (Formerly Twitter) regarding Vision Pro. According to him, Vision Pro is not great yet, much like the first iPhone. However, in his opinion, the iPhone 3 solved all the issues and became a great device. He believes the case will be very similar to Vision Pro as well.

Apple’s efforts to make the iPad a Mac replacement haven’t yielded the desired results, Gurman argues. Features haven’t fully bridged the productivity gap, leaving the iPad in a somewhat ambiguous position within the Apple portfolio. He views Vision Pro, at its current $3,500 price tag, as more of a “prototype” funded by early adopters than a polished consumer product.

Despite its limitations, Vision Pro exhibits potential. Its capabilities in video streaming, light work, and entertainment are promising, offering an alternative for traditional iPad users seeking a more immersive experience. However, the weight, battery life, and app availability limitations hold it back.

Gurman urges potential buyers to exercise caution, highlighting the potential pitfalls of investing in an unfinished product. He stresses the importance of waiting for substantial software improvements and hardware refinements before considering Vision Pro a viable consumer option.

Apple is gearing up for significant changes in its AirPods lineup, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. In 2024, updates are anticipated for both the standard AirPods and AirPods Max, while the AirPods Pro will receive enhancements in 2025.

Concurrently, Apple is planning to phase out the 2nd and 3rd-generation standard AirPods and introduce two different price points for the upcoming 4th-generation AirPods.

Upcoming-Generation AirPods: New Designs and Features

According to Gurman, the 4th-generation standard AirPods are expected to incorporate features from both AirPods and AirPods Pro models and may come with shorter earphone stems. The higher-end version of the standard AirPods is likely to feature active noise cancellation, similar to the AirPods Pro and Max, along with an improved fit for added comfort. Details about potential additions to the charging case, such as speakers or a USB-C interface, remain uncertain.

The AirPods Max will not just be receiving functional updates. Aesthetic variations are also on the horizon, with more color options likely to be available. There’s also talk of adding the USB-C interface.

As for the AirPods Pro, the 3rd gen is rumored to boast a new design and more efficient internal chips. What’s particularly intriguing is the possibility of “hearing health” features, suggesting that these AirPods could collect hearing data, potentially positioning them as an alternative to traditional hearing aids in certain situations. This year Apple already updated the 2nd generation AirPods Pro with USB‐C so the next gen will also feature the same.

Apple has filed recent patents suggesting that future AirPods may include features such as reading biosignals like brain waves using in-ear electrodes and dynamic environment adaptation capabilities.

Apple also plans to manufacture AirPods in India, in addition to iPhones and is expected to introduce these refreshed AirPods models alongside new iPhones next year.

Apple is gearing up for a massive launch cycle where it unveils its latest generation of notebooks and smartphones. But ahead of the announcements, a new report has hinted that there might be a delay for some of its upcoming gadgets.

Apple M3 MacBook Air & MacBook Pro Delayed

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently shared some information regarding the new MacBooks in his Power On newsletter. The report carried predictions for the Apple events in September and October. The Cupertino based giant will host a major launch conference for the iPhone, but the Macs might not get similar attention. M3 MacBooks will reportedly just be announced with a simple press release.

Mark Gurman stated in his newsletter, “The structure of the event, I’m told, will match the iPhone 14 launch: A prerecorded video will be shown online, as well as at an event at the company’s headquarters. There’s also another launch occurring in October — likely for the first M3 Macs — but it’s unclear if that will be positioned as a formal event.” Based on this, it appears that even an October launch timeline appears unlikely as well.

In the past, Apple didn’t introduce the M2-powered MacBook Air and MacBook Pro in special events. Similarly, the company skipped an October launch event in 2015, 2017, 2019, and event 2022. So it won’t be surprising that the company follows a similar move for the upcoming M3 MacBooks.

Apple is apparently working on a brand-new display. This model could succeed in its existing Studio Display and could even work without a Mac PC, offering useful features and doubling as a Smart Display.

Apple to launch a standalone display with a tall screen

The news arrives from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who shared a number of key details via his Power On newsletter. Apparently, the iPhone maker is working on a new large-sized display that will be powered by an A series processor. This upcoming product will also feature its own software that will let you use the display when not connected to a Mac. In other words, it can be used as a standalone product that delivers some basic functionality.

One of these functions would even have it double as a smart display. In other words, it might work similarly to the StandBy mode offered in iOS 17. For those unaware, Apple iOS 17 devices let users display key information like date, time, weather, and more from the Smart Stack widgets collection when charging in landscape orientation. But with the new standalone display, this feature could be offered when it is running in low-power mode.

As an example, the Amazon Echo or the Google Nest Hub offer smart display functionality by letting you consume video content and make video calls and other basic features. As of right now, Apple offers its 5K Studio Display which has a 27-inch display and runs on the A13 Bionic chipset. This upcoming display might be its successor and offer additional functionality. However, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is looking to expand its Ad business and is aiming to bring annual revenue into the “double digits”. The company is projected to bring ads to more of the apps that come pre-installed on the iPhone and other Apple devices, including Maps, Books, and Podcasts.

Gurman claims that Apple has already tested incorporating sponsored results to search results in the Maps app. A similar advertising strategy has been established by the company on the App Store, where developers may pay to have their app promoted on a search page for a specific query.

Apple might potentially add advertisements to its built-in Books and Podcasts apps too. This would make it possible for publishers to add advertisements to specific app areas or pay to boost their content in search results. Books, Podcasts, and Maps are all currently ad-free.

Apple ads revenue currently comes from the App Store Search Ads, ads in Apple News, and a few more sources. The company’s total ad revenue is $4 billion and it is reportedly aiming to triple its ad revenue to double-digit figures.

Gurman also makes reference to the possibility of advertising on Apple TV Plus, he claims that the Cupertino company may decide to establish a less expensive ad-supported tier, similar to what Netflix and Disney Plus are planning to do by the end of this year.

Apple’s smartphone sales have declined significantly in recent years. To counter that, the company has resorted to various revenue-generating services, including ads. While more ads will definitely boost Apple’s revenue, it will also ruin the overall user experience.

For those unaware, we had previously covered a rumor that suggested that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will feature Always On Display. Now, the latest Power On newsletter from Mark Gurman has revealed that this feature will come with new UI elements that ships with the iOS 16 operating system. The report claims that the Always On Display feature will showcase new screen widgets and more.

Notably, these widgets includes features like weather updates, fitness, and likely much more other options that the user might be able to customize. As per Gurman, “Like the Apple Watch, the iPhone 14 Pro will be able to show widgets displaying weather, calendars, stocks, activities and other data while the screen remains at a low brightness and frame rate. And there will be a setting also like the Apple Watch that keeps sensitive data from appearing on the lock screen for all to see.”

Apart from this, we can expect the iPhone 14 Pro’s Always On display to function like any other AOD on other smartphones. By this we mean, it will likely display basic information like time, date, notifications, and more. Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed report so take this news with a pinch of salt for now and stick around for more updates.

The news was shared by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (Via 9to5Mac) in his Power On newsletter. For those unaware, the Cupertino based giant is reportedly working on a 20 inch foldable device. Furthermore, the new report suggests that the brand is also exploring a dual display format for the foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid. In other words, this is a new size for the company and could create a new category in its product portfolio. Although, the actual product is likely a long while away.

Gurman added that “The company could go with a foldable 20 inch screen attached to a physical keyboard or just have one side of the display serving as a virtual keyboard. I’m told Apple has indeed been exploring a dual screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid that would take the second approach. It would trade in the physical keyboard and trackpad for a fully touchscreen base.”

The news arrives from the latest Power On newsletter from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (Via 9To5Mac), in which he talked about the new sensors that Apple is currently working on and when we might possibly we see it on the commercial build of its smartwatch. Gurman stated that the three major health tracking sensors that are currently available in the market will not be available on the Apple Watch anytime soon.

The features in question include the glucose/blood sugar monitoring, blood pressure mapping, and measuring body temperature. So while the Cupertino based giant is supposedly working on these sensors, Gurman believes that these features are still several years away. In other words, the next gen Watch Series 8’s latest health tracking feature might be the advanced sleep pattern monitoring system that can even detect sleep apnea.

Keep in mind that the launch of the new Apple Watch is still many months away. So, it is still too early to confirm any finer details regarding the upcoming smartwatch at the moment. On the other hand, the iPhone maker is rumored to launch an updated SE version of its Watch, alongside a new rugged sports variant, and the flagship Watch Series 8.
The news arrives from the latest Power On newsletter from Mark Gurman (Via 9to5Mac). In this report, Gurman shared information regarding the upcoming launches from Apple for 2022. The Cupertino based giant is apparently planning to launch a new iPad Pro design that features built in support for wireless charging. The changes doesn’t end there for the iPad family, as even the iPad Air and base iPad models will receive an update as well.

Furthermore, Gurman claimed that the iPhone maker will be releasing a redesigned MacBook Air next year, which will be launched next to a “revamped, high end iMac with Apple Silicon.” Alongside these, the company also aims on a new entry level MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, and even an updates Mac mini sometime for next year. Arriving at wearables, the brand is reportedly seeking to launch three new models of its Apple Watch. This would include the base model, the SE variant, and even a ruggedized version as well for athletes and adventure sports enthusiasts.

The writer cum tipster has revealed that the next flagship iPhone model will sport a complete redesign away from the current offerings. The details of Gurman’s expose on the next iPhone series is published in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter.

Apple continues to generate intense speculations both with its incoming offerings and its current products. The iPhone 14 seems to be getting the attention of more tipsters and industry experts including Gurman. The Bloomberg expert believes the fact that there were minimal design changes observed on the iPhone 13 series could indicate Apple could be working on a significantly different design model in the iPhone 14 series both for the vanilla and Pro version, as well as other variants.

It has been speculated previously that the iPhone 14 will not come with the notch present in current models. The Pro model, as per the previous rumors, will have a punch-hole design when it is unveiled in 2022. Some pretty reliable tipsters have affirmed that indeed, the iPhone 14 Pro will come with a punch-hole in place of the notch, and some renders seem to support this position. It is also believed that Apple may also be working on an under-display Touch ID and foldable display architectures, possibly from 2023 upwards. Several tipsters have also hinted that Apple is seriously developing a foldable iPhone in the coming years.

Samsung has already put itself as a leader in foldable displays through the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip smartphones.
