OnePlus partners with UFC for the OnePlus Nord N20 5G smartphone in the US

OnePlus has announced a new marketing partnership with UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) for the latest Nord series smartphone available in the United States, which is dubbed the OnePlus Nord N20 5G.

It appears that with such a partnership with UFC, the OPPO-backed company is looking to deepen its presence in the United States or the North American market. The company says that the partnership will promote making 5G services more affordable and accessible in the North American region.

OnePlus Nord N20 5G

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G was launched in the United States a couple of weeks ago as an entry-level 5G smartphone. Priced at under $300, it is one of the cheapest 5G phones available in the US but it is currently being sold exclusively through T-Mobile and Metro.

With this new marketing partnership, the OnePlus brand will be exposed to a wide range of audiences, which could result in the company signing deals with other carriers in the country for expanding its presence.

Being an Offical Marketing Partner of UFC, the OnePlus brand will appear in key UFC assets, including broadcast features on select Pay-per-Views and custom and original content that will be distributed across official UFC social media, channels, and digital platforms.

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G features a 6.43-inch AMOLED display and comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor. It packs 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with support for a microSD card slot to expand the storage capacity. It runs the Android operating system with OxygenOS on top and is powered by a 4,500mAh battery that comes with support for 33W fast charging.

The mid-year shopping festival, which is commonly known as “618” in China, is coming soon and the companies are gearing up for the same. In line with this, Xiaomi has announced its new marketing activity.

Xiaomi says that whoever buys its suitcase during the sale will get a surprise gift inside which could be anything from Xiaomi or its ecology of products. The company has added that the users can also find the latest Mi 10 Pro flagship smartphone inside the bag.

Anyone in China who purchases the suitcase products of Xiaomi from 1st June to 20th June through Xiaomi’s Tmall Store or through the company’s own Xiaomi Mall online store will be able to eligible for the surprise gifts.

The teaser poster shared by the company showcases that along with the Mi 10 Pro smartphone, buyers can find Mi Electric Screwdriver, Mi Handheld Iron, Mi Automatic Washing Machine, Mi Touchscreen Smart Speaker, Hair Dryers, Car Air Purifiers, Portable Cups, Health Calendars, among others.

Currently, Xiaomi is selling more than 10 luggage or suitcase products in China with their price varying from 999 199 yuan (~$28) to 999 yuan (~$140) and in different sizes as well — from 20-inch to 28-inch.

Last month, the company launched the 20-inch version of the Xiaomi Light Business Suitcase. It is manufactured using high-resistance PC-type materials and has improved shock-absorption, thanks to a 3-layer structure. It weighs about 3.6 kilograms, has an internal volume capacity of 36L, and costs 399 yuan which is around $56.

Apple’s Paul Jowett appointed as Huawei Australia’s Director of Marketing

Paul Jowett, who had been working for Apple since the year 2011, has now been appointed by Huawei Australia as a Director of Marketing. At Huawei, he will be leading the company’s efforts “help bring the company’s world-class line-up of smartphones, PCs, and wearables to more users”.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul Jowett said: “Huawei is constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible with technology, and sets the benchmark for smartphone innovation. I am thrilled to join the Australian team and look forward to delivering exciting campaigns for the business.”

Prior to working for Apple, he had held the position of Head of Channel Marketing at Samsung. He has also worked as Marketing Manager for Vodafone, Brand Marketing Manager for InsuranceLine, and Advertising Manager for 3 Mobile. As for his education, Jowett holds a Masters Degree in Marketing from University of Ulster, obtained in 2000.

Meanwhile, Huawei is all set to launch new color options of the Huawei P30 series smartphones at the IFA 2019 in Berline later this week. After that, later this month, on 19th September, the company will be launching its next-gen Mate series flagship smartphones — Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.

Oppo to reduce celebrity endorsements and will focus on large-scale sports events

Oppo, one of the major smartphone manufacturer, had earlier announced that the company has partnered with the Wimbledon Tennis Championship. This makes it the only partners from the smartphone industry as well as the only brand from Asia.

This partnership seems to be a part of the company’s strategy to reach a wider set of audience globally. This makes sense given that the company is currently the fifth largest smartphone manufacturer globally but it’s mostly known in the Asian market.

According to the latest report which cites an Oppo insider, the company is planning to reduce its reliance on the celebrity endorsements and will instead shift its marketing focus towards large-scale sporting events. This seems to be the company strategy for increasing its brand recall value.

However, this does not mean that the company will totally scrap the strategy of celebrity endorsements for its products. It will continue the practice of celebrity endorsement for the select Asian market where it is required.

Earlier, Shen Yi, Vice President of Oppo and President of Oppo China Business Department had said that Wimbledon is working with Wisdom on a global strategy based on the internationalization and operation of the company’s brand and added the signing of Wimbledon is based on the co-operation of global brand level.

According to report released by IDC for the year 2018, Oppo recorded global mobile phone shipments at around 113 million units, with a market share of 8.1 percent, ranking fifth in the world. In the Chinese smartphone market, the company’s shipments totaled 78.9 million units, with a market share of 19.8 percent.
