Despite the tremendous advancement in smartphone camera technology, OEMs are sometimes still caught promoting their mobile phones with fake camera sample. Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi have at several times been caught promoting their phones with fake samples captured under the shutter of a DSLR camera. Curiously, the company’s P20 Pro flagship still ranks as the best phone in terms of camera, according to DXOMark. The Chinese tech giant has once again been caught up in a “DSLR mess” as recent camera samples promoting the Mate 20X were discovered to be fake. In this case, Huawei wasn’t directly responsible for the gaffe as it was made by a photographer for Jiguo.com, a free trial and shopping guide platform for tech gadgets.

Apparently, the Mate 20X was taken to the Arctic region to test the camera prowess under the beautiful scenery. The photographer then sent back the samples but it seems they were not properly labelled. Thus, two samples that were not captured by the Mate 20X were shared alongside the actual samples. The two samples were captured using the Nikon DSLR camera. The official responsible for the error has since apologized while the samples captured by the Nikon DSLR have been removed. You can check out the actual samples from below and they are indeed stunning. With this quality, Huawei doesn’t really need the aid of a DSLR to convince us that indeed, the Mate 20X camera is powerful!

However, this incident brings to memory, Huawei’s infamous DSLR deceitful camera sample used in promoting the Huawei P9. Sometime around July 2016 when Huawei was promoting its P9 flagship, the company shared a photo on its Google+ page which was purportedly captured by the P9’s dual rear shutters. The photo was indeed stunning just like these ones, with crisp clear details downright impressive for a smartphone camera. Unfortunately, it turned out the shot wasn’t taken by a smartphone camera but was actually from the all-powerful Canon EOS 5D Mark III shutter. The DSLR camera was worth $4500 back then. Well, it seems Huawei took that embarrassing incident as a challenge to develop a smartphone camera with DSLR-like quality. The Mate 20X may not be on the same level with a DSLR camera, but the company is edging closer to that standard employing an innovative camera and AI technology.

Soon after announcing the Huawei Mate 20 series of flagship phones through the Oct. 16 London launch event, the Chinese manufacturer confirmed that it will be announcing its newest flagship phones in China on Oct. 26. A new leak that has surfaced on Weibo suggests that the entire expect for the Mate 20X gaming smartphone and the premium Mate 20 RS Porsche Design phone, Huawei will be releasing only the other Mate 20 devices in China. The leak has also revealed the pricing and color variants of all the Mate 20 phones that will be hitting the home market.

The leaked image shown below states the Mate 20 that will carry a price tag of 4,299 Yuan (~$619) will feature 64 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM. The Mate 20 Pro that is priced at 5,299 Yuan (~$763) will be advanced version of the Mate 20 Pro as it will feature 128 GB of storage and the same 6 GB of RAM.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro that was unveiled in Europe features an in-screen fingerprint reader. However, the Mate 20 Pro arriving in China seems to be equipped with a regular rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The leak states that the more powerful Mate 20 Pro models will come equipped with under-display fingerprint scanner.

The leaked image further reveals that the Mate 20 Pro (UD) handset will be arriving in two variants. These include 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage + 8 GB RAM. Both phones are respectively priced at 5,799 Yuan (~$835) and 6,299 Yuan (~$907). Both of these models will be arriving with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. These smartphones are expected to release in China in color variants such as Emerald Green, Midnight Blue, Twilight and Black.

In the Europe, the Mate 20 comes in two models namely, 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. These models respectively cost 799 euros (~$916) and 849 euros (~$979). The Mate 20 Pro for Europe comes in a single variant that includes 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM. It is priced at 1,049 euros (~$1,200).

The recently announced Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the most powerful smartphone from the company. The official AnTuTu benchmark scores of the handset has been revealed. The Mate 20 Pro that is powered by 7nm Kirin 980 has managed to breach 300k AnTuTu score.

AnTuTu has recently released the list of top 10 best performance Android phones for the month of September. The list includes smartphones like ASUS ROG Phone, Xiaomi Black Shark, OnePlus 6, Vivo NEX S, Xiaomi Mi 8, OPPO Find X, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, ASUS ZenFone 5Z, Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S and Xiaomi Poco F1. These phones are fueled by Snapdragon 845 chipset which is the 2^nd generation 10nm chipset from Qualcomm. The list no longer includes Kirin 970 powered Huawei and Honor phones. Even Exynos SoC driven Samsung phones have been ousted from the list.

On AnTuTu, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro (LYA-AL00 model number) has scored an average benchmarking score of 307,059 which is higher than 285k to 299k AnTuTu scores of the best performance Android phones for the previous month. Performance-wise, there won’t be major difference between a phone that scores around 290k points and other handset with nearly 310k points on AnTuTu. However, the 300k+ score of the Mate 20 Pro does reveal the prowess of the Kirin 980 SoC.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro that has been benchmarked on AnTuTu includes 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, Quad HD+ resolution supporting screen and Android 9 Pie OS. The Mate 20 Pro along with its sibling Mate 20, Mate 20X may lead AnTuTu’s list of top 10 best performance Android phones in October.

The upcoming Honor Magic 2 will be the first Honor phone to feature the Kirin 980 chipset. By the end of the year, Honor is expected to release Kirin 980 powered Honor V20 smartphones. These phones may also lead the AnTuTu’s best performance list of smartphones in the forthcoming months.

The AnTuTu scores of the Mate 20 Pro is still behind Apple’s recent iPhones. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max that are driven by 7nm Apple A12 chipset have respectively scored 348,581 and 348,148 points on AnTuTu benchmarks.

As mentioned above, the Mate 20 Porsche Design borrows most of its specs from the Mate 20 Pro. Hence, the Porsche Design phone is equipped with 6.39-inch AMOLED screen. The notched display supports QHD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

The Kirin 980 is at the helm of the Mate 20 Porsche Design. It is packed with a 4,200mAh battery that supports 40W SuperCharge fast charging and 15W wireless charging. When it comes to security, the Mate 20 Porsche Design offers both in-display fingerprint scanner and 3D face unlock. The 40-megapixel + 20-megapixel + 8-megapixel triple camera system of Mate 20 Pro is also available on the Porsche Design model.

Here is what sets the Mate 20 RS apart from Mate 20 Pro smartphone. Instead of the glass rear, the Mate 20 RS has a premium leather. There is a vertical strip of glass at the center that runs from the top to the bottom of the back panel of the Mate 20 RS. The glass strip houses the triple camera module and the Porsche Design logo. There is no camera bump on the handset. It can be availed in two color choices of Black and Red.

The Mate 20 RS comes with 8 GB of RAM and its storage variants include 256 GB and 512 GB. The base model is priced at 1,695 euros (~$1,960) and the higher variant costs 2,095 euros (~$2,425). There is no confirmation whether Huawei will be receiving pre-orders for the Mate 20 Porsche Design. However, what’s confirmed is that its shipments will begin on Nov. 16.

Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro Specifications and Features

Huawei had released the Mate 10 with LCD screen and Mate 10 Pro with an OLED display last year. The Chinese manufacturer will be employing the same strategy for its upcoming Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones. Rumors have it that the Mate 20 will be equipped with a 6.53-inch LCD screen with waterdrop notch and it will carry support for an aspect ratio of 19:9 and Full HD+ resolution.

On the other side, the Mate 20 Pro is expected to house a curved OLED screen of 6.39 inches. It is expected to feature a larger notch because of which it will offer an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 and Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels. The Mate 20 Pro will be equipped with an in-screen fingerprint reader whereas the Mate 20 will be fitted with a regular rear-mounted fingerprint reader. The Mate 20 will be featuring a 3.5mm audio jack, but the Pro variant will be lacking it.

Both the phones will be fueled by the 7nm Kirin 980 chipset that will come with dual NPU unit for better handling of AI tasks. The Mate 20 will be fueled by 4,000mAh battery whereas the Mate 20 Pro will be packed with a 4,200mAh battery. Both the smartphones will carry support for 40W fast charging. The Mate 20 and 20 Pro will be the first Huawei phones to carry support for 15W wireless charging. Both the handsets are also expected to support reverse wireless charging that will allow users to wirelessly charge the Huawei Freebuds 2 Pro earbuds by placing it on the Mate 20 or 20 Pro smartphone.

The Leica engineered triple camera unit arranged in a square-shaped module will be available on the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones. Rumors have it that the Mate 20 will include 12-megapixel + 20-megapixel + 8-megapixel triple camera system. A newer report has claimed that the Mate 20 Pro will have 40-megapixel f/1.8 aperture + 20-megapixel f/2.4 aperture and 8-megapixel wide-angle lens in its triple camera system. Both phones are expected to deliver professional photo shooting experience such as ultra-macro shots and detailed photography in low-light conditions.

The Mate 20 Pro is expected to come in LPDDRX4 RAM variants like 6 GB and 8 GB RAM and UFS 2.1 storage choices like 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. The Huawei Mate 20 may come in LPDDRX4 RAM editions like 4 GB and 6 GB and UFS storage variants between 64 GB and 512 GB. For storage, the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will feature a memory card slot, but it won’t be the regular microSD card slot. Instead, it will be equipped with a nanoSD card slot that will support up to 256 GB of nanoSD card by Huawei.

Leaked information has revealed that the Mate 20 may carry a starting price of around $800 and $900 whereas the Mate 20 Pro may cost over $1,000 for its base model.

A recent report had revealed that it will be equipped with a massive waterdrop notch display of 7.12 inches and triple rear cameras like Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones. One of the leaked photos have suggested that the Huawei will be also offering a stylus for the larger Mate 20X smartphone.

There is no information available on the specifications of the Mate 20 Porsche Design smartphone. However, it goes without saying that the handset will be packed with the best possible specs and will carry a very hefty price tag.

Huawei Watch GT Specifications and Pricing

The Huawei Watch GT featuring Cortex M4 processor and custom OS is also expected to get announced alongside the Mate 20 series of smartphones today. The smartwatch is speculated to feature a 1.39-inch AMOLED display that will support 454 x 454 pixels resolution and it may include 420mAh battery. Other rumored features of the Huawei Watch GT include 316L stainless steel body, 5ATM water resistance, heart rate monitor and GPS. The Huawei Watch GT may cost around 200 euros (~$230).

Huawei‘s Mate 20 series will be officially unveiled on Tuesday, October 16. There have been massive leaks in the past week but a new one has surfaced which reveals an important detail for one of the models.

Photos have surfaced on the web that shows one of the Mate 20 phones will have a stylus. You read that right. The live photos seem to be from an official document but were originally taken in a Huawei store.

In the images, we can see three phones placed under the Mate 20 stand- two which stand side-by-side and have a similar size while a much larger one is propped up on the right. The pictures are blurry but we believe the two phones on the left are the Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20.

The larger device which is on the right is the one with a stylus albeit a pretty big one. We presume this is the Mate 20X said to be aimed at gamers, but from the images, it seems Huawei has added stylus support as one of its distinguishing features.

Samsung is no doubt the king of stylus-toting phones with its Galaxy Note series and no manufacturer has been able to take the crown from it. However, Huawei seems to want to make an attempt with the Mate 20 X.

Obviously, the stylus doesn’t fit into the device, so Samsung has the upper hand here. We also have no idea what features Huawei has added to the Mate 20X with respect to stylus support so we can’t say if it measures up to that of the Note series. Nevertheless, we are eager to see the stylus in action.

The Mate 20X will come with an AMOLED display like its siblings but much larger in size. It will also have a Kirin 980 processor and quad rear cameras but is expected to pack a bigger battery and also have a cooling technology to keep the phone from heating up during extended gaming sessions.

The Mate 20 series will be unveiled in London. The event will be live-streamed and will begin at 2 pm British time which corresponds to 9 pm in China and 6:30 pm in India.

Leaked information that has surfaced in the recent has claimed that the Huawei Mate 20X will be arriving with a massive 7.12-inch OLED screen that will produce Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2240 pixels. Since the Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has already released the Honor 8X Max with 7.12-inch waterdrop notch screen, it is speculated that the upcoming Mate 20X will be sporting a similar design. New photos of a man holding a mysterious Huawei with behemoth display has surfaced on Weibo. The massive phone appears to be the Mate 20X.

Rumors have it that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro will be equipped with an OLED screen of 6.39 inches that will produce Quad HD+ resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels. Rumors have it that it will be equipped with a wider notch since it will be housing the necessary components for 3D face unlock. The Mate 20 would be arriving with an LCD display of 6.53 inches that will deliver Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2240 pixels.

In the above images, the phone certainly appears quite big. It is equipped with a waterdrop notch screen. Some may claim that it could be the Honor 8X Max. However, the rear snap of the same reveals that it is equipped with three rear-mounted cameras like the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. Below the camera module is a fingerprint reader. Hence, it could be the Huawei Mate 20X.

There is no information available on the specifications of the Mate 20X. It may either feature Kirin 980 or Kirin 710. For longer hours of gaming, the Mate 20X come packed with a massive battery.

It is advisable to take the report with a grain of salt since it could be the Mate 20 smartphone with waterdrop notch screen. However, going by massive construction of the phone, its likelihood of being Mate 20X cannot be ruled out.

The Mate 20X teaser is a 10-second video of a block of ice shaped like a phone. There are snippets of some mobile games and the words “cooler” and “longer gaming”. The video also reveals the phone will launch on October 16.

From the teaser, it is plain to see that the Mate 20X is targeted at gamers. We also want to believe that it will have a cooling system and a large battery hence the “cooler” and “longer gaming”  hints.

So does this mean we are getting four Mate 20 phones? We are not so sure. A leaked spec sheet has surfaced online and it only mentions three Mate 20 phones. There is the Mate 20 itself, the Mate 20 Pro, and the Mate 20X. The expected Mate 20 Porsche Design is missing.

The spec sheet reveals the Mate 20X will have a 7.21-inch OLED display with a 1080 x 2240 resolution. Since the resolution is the same as that of the Mate 20, we believe it also has a water-drop notch. Other unconfirmed specs of the phone include a kirin 980 processor, up to 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.
