<p>According to a reliable insider on Weibo who goes by the name Digital Chat Station, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> has reportedly sold over 10 million units of the <a href="https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DmBHNeL" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow">Mate 60 series</a> by the end of June 2024. The figure encompasses sales of the standard Mate 60, Mate 60 Pro, and the premium RS Porsche Design variant.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="302" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Huawei-Mate-60-series-10-million-unit-sale.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-637315" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Huawei-Mate-60-series-10-million-unit-sale.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Huawei-Mate-60-series-10-million-unit-sale-300x101.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Huawei-Mate-60-series-10-million-unit-sale-768x258.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Huawei-Mate-60-series-10-million-unit-sale-696x234.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Despite ongoing chip production limitations, Huawei appears to have achieved another sales milestone with the Mate 60 lineup. The company actively promoted the flagships through various marketing campaigns with temporary discounts, likely contributing to the strong sales performance.</p>

<p>Huawei&#8217;s loyal customer base has also played a role in the Mate 60&#8217;s success. The Pro model&#8217;s initial sales surge translated into continued momentum, with the series now reaching this new sales benchmark.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro</strong></h2>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 60 </a>and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro</a> offer similar core specifications, with the primary difference lying in display size and battery capacity. Both phones boast large LTPO OLED displays with a variable refresh rate that can adjust between 1Hz and 120Hz to optimize battery life based on content.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Mate 60 features a slightly smaller 6.69-inch display, while the Mate 60 Pro steps it up to a more expansive 6.82-inch viewing area.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUawei-Mate-60-Pro-beige.png?x44794" alt=""/></figure></div>

<p>At the heart of both phones lies the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/14/huawei-schedules-its-autumn-launch-event-for-september-25-kirin-9000s-formal-announcement-expected/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kirin 9000S</a> chipset, built on a 7nm process. Both phones are paired with 12GB of RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and app switching. Storage options range from 256GB to a staggering 1TB, ample for your photos, videos, and app download needs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The main rear camera on both models is a 50MP main sensor with a unique variable aperture that can adjust between f/1.4 and f/4.0. The other two lenses on the Mate 60 is a 12MP periscope lens and a 12MP ultrawide lens, while the Mate 60 Pro features the same ultrawide lens but upgrades the periscope lens to 48MP. Both phones have a 13MP front-facing camera.</p>

<p>Despite the larger display, the Mate 60 Pro comes equipped with a slightly smaller 4750mAh battery compared to the Mate 60&#8217;s 5000mAh battery. However, both phones support 88W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ and RS Ultimate Design</strong></h2>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro-plus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro+</a> has display specs similar to the Pro model and also features a 13MP front camera and a 3D depth camera for secure face recognition.</p>

<p>The Pro+ boasts a more advanced rear camera setup, featuring a 48MP primary camera with f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture, a 40MP ultrawide camera, and a 48MP ultra-macro telephoto camera. It comes pre-loaded with the latest HarmonyOS 4.0 and packs a powerful punch with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/428_428_3872D8D5728CA4B66E9741EC39D1A214.webp?x44794" alt=""/></figure></div>

<p>The Mate 60 Pro+ offers unique features like two-way satellite communication and 20W wireless reverse charging. Both the Mate 60 Pro and Pro+ support two-way text messaging over the Beiduo network.</p>

<p>The RS Ultimate Design offers the same powerful specs as the Mate 60 Pro+ but with a luxurious ceramic body and a unique design.</p>

<p>Huawei Technologies has recently been in the spotlight for its <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro-5g">Mate 60 Pro 5G</a>, showcasing not just a new product but a different approach to overcoming production and supply chain challenges. The journey of the Mate 60 Pro, from production struggles to impressive sales figures, offers a unique glimpse into the resilience and adaptability of Huawei in the face of adversity. However, the company seems to be clearly having issues with supply and demand.</p>

<h2>The company is also limiting purchase orders for customers</h2>

<p>Huawei&#8217;s decision to introduce a pre-order system for the Mate 60 Pro stemmed from an inability to meet the surging demand. This move, as explained by Counterpoint Research senior analyst Wang Yang, was a strategic step to buy time for securing orders from suppliers. The core of this challenge lies in the advanced <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000">Kirin 9000</a>s processor, around which a shroud of secrecy has complicated supply chain dynamics, delaying the parts provision process significantly.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1006" height="681" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Screenshot-2023-10-16-225310.png?x44794" alt="Huawei" class="wp-image-575427" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Screenshot-2023-10-16-225310.png 1006w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Screenshot-2023-10-16-225310-300x203.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Screenshot-2023-10-16-225310-768x520.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Screenshot-2023-10-16-225310-696x471.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Screenshot-2023-10-16-225310-620x420.png 620w" sizes="(max-width: 1006px) 100vw, 1006px" /></figure></div>

<p>In a rather unconventional step, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/category/huawei">Huawei</a> launched a subscription program for the Mate 60 Pro, promising delivery within 90 days of ordering. This approach, limiting purchases to one unit per consumer, reflects an attempt to manage supply efficiently while maintaining customer interest.</p>

<p>Despite these hurdles, the Mate 60 Pro has achieved notable success. Within eight weeks of its launch, the series recorded 2.4 million units in domestic sales, according to <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/counterpoint">Counterpoint</a> data. This figure is particularly impressive when considering the background of US trade sanctions that Huawei has been grappling with.</p>

<p>The Mate 60 series, especially the Pro model, has become a symbol of Huawei&#8217;s resilience. The company&#8217;s ability to navigate through supply shortages and still secure a strong market position, especially during the Singles’ Day shopping season, is commendable. Senior analyst Ivan Lam from Counterpoint highlights the sustained popularity of the Mate 60 series, despite limited daily sales due to supply constraints.</p>

<p>The 2023 Digital Technology Ecology Conference was recently hosted in Guangzhou, China, themed around &#8220;Digital Technology &amp; Renewal.&#8221; At this event, China Telecom, in collaboration with Huawei unveiled Huawei Mate 60 Pro Quantum Secure Call Customized Terminal.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="681" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d3c8000b-bbf2-40e6-a0d2-720d8add3c09-1024x681.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 60 Pro Quantum Secure Call" class="wp-image-582221" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d3c8000b-bbf2-40e6-a0d2-720d8add3c09-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d3c8000b-bbf2-40e6-a0d2-720d8add3c09-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d3c8000b-bbf2-40e6-a0d2-720d8add3c09-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d3c8000b-bbf2-40e6-a0d2-720d8add3c09-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d3c8000b-bbf2-40e6-a0d2-720d8add3c09-1068x710.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d3c8000b-bbf2-40e6-a0d2-720d8add3c09-632x420.jpg 632w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/d3c8000b-bbf2-40e6-a0d2-720d8add3c09.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>This new system provides a three-layer quantum security solution, making it virtually impossible for someone to eavesdrop on a secured call. Huawei Mate 4OE was introduced with Quantum SIM card support. Now, China Telecom and Huawei have upped it a notch with the new system in place on the Mate 60 Pro.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 60 Pro</a> Quantum Secure Call Customized Terminal utilizes a comprehensive &#8220;triple protection&#8221; approach, incorporating a domestically produced chip, algorithms classified as state secrets, and a quantum security SIM card for enhanced security. Other than the ability to make quantum encrypted calls directly from the native dial-pad on the Mate 60 Pro, the device also offers secure functionalities like encrypted file transfer, secure instant messaging, and coordinated office activities via the Quantum MeSign App.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02" class="wp-image-562600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>For those unaware of the technicalities, Quantum encryption is a method of encrypting data that uses quantum mechanics to ensure the security of the communication. It is based on the principles of quantum physics, which state that the act of observing a quantum system changes its state. This means that any attempt to intercept or eavesdrop on a quantum-encrypted call would be immediately detected, as the act of observing the call would change its state.</p>

<p>Your phone handles the encryption and decryption of VoLTE voice data right there. Also, every time you make a quantum secure call, a fresh key is created for that specific session, ensuring strong and adaptable communication security. When starting a quantum secure call, a randomly chosen card key checks if it&#8217;s really you. After that, the quantum network makes a real-time key to lock up the session data once it knows it&#8217;s you.</p>

<p>To use China Telecom Tianyi Quantum Secure Call feature, users need to switch their regular SIM card with a quantum secure SIM card and turn on Quantum Secure Call service.</p>

<p>The Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60</a> series is making waves in the smartphone market with its features and price. Out of the four models in the series, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 60 Pro</a> undoubtedly stands out the most. Introduced in August, the phone has been selling like hotcakes ever since, and those who want to buy it are having trouble finding it in stock. Moreover, even after almost two months, the demand doesn&#8217;t seem to be decreasing. According to the research firm Counterpoint, Huawei has sold millions of models in the past six weeks, with one-third of these sales occurring in the last week alone. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 60 Pro Outsells iPhone 15 Pro Max by 10% in China</strong></h2>

<p>According to Counterpoint, Huawei has sold 1.6 million units of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro</a> in just six weeks. Of those, over 400,000 units were sold in the past two weeks alone. Don&#8217;t get me wrong, selling 1.6 million units in six weeks is an impressive achievement. However, for the Chinese tech giant, this is just the beginning. This is because the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro</a> is still in short supply. If supply were to improve, sales could potentially be even higher. The fact that 400,000 of the 1.6 million units were sold in the last week is an indicator of this potential.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/huawei-mate-60-pro-sales-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 60 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro Max" class="wp-image-576612" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/huawei-mate-60-pro-sales-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/huawei-mate-60-pro-sales-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/huawei-mate-60-pro-sales-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/huawei-mate-60-pro-sales-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/huawei-mate-60-pro-sales-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/huawei-mate-60-pro-sales-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/huawei-mate-60-pro-sales.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Of course, it&#8217;s still a matter of curiosity what challenges Huawei faces in production and whether they can meet the demand. However, it&#8217;s also possible to say that the company is fortunate. Especially considering that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-15/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 15</a> series disappointed both in China and the rest of the world. Although the performance of these phones is as good as ever, they failed to excite users in terms of innovation and design, and didn&#8217;t feel different from the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-14/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 14</a> series. On the other hand, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60</a> series created the exact opposite positive impact.</p>

<p>The overall sales of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-15/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 15</a> series in China are down 4.5% from the iPhone 14 series in the same period. The Pro Max has seen the biggest decline, with sales down 14%. The Pro is down 11%. Industry insiders also believe that the sudden release of the Mate 60/X5 series has had a negative impact on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-15/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 15</a>.</p>

<p>It remains to be seen whether the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro</a>&#8216;s success will continue. However, the early sales figures suggest that Huawei is back on track to compete with Apple in the global smartphone market.</p>

<p>PBKreviews is a popular YouTube channel that specializes in teardown videos of smartphones and other gadgets. Recently, the channel got its hands on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 60 Pro</a>, and the results of the teardown are quite interesting.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>The Mate 60 Pro is a highly controversial device, as it is Huawei&#8217;s first flagship smartphone to be released since the company was placed on the US Entity List in 2019. This means that Huawei is unable to source certain components from US suppliers, including chips from Qualcomm.</p>

<p>Despite the sanctions, Huawei has managed to produce the Mate 60 Pro with a 5G-capable, 7nm chipset. The teardown video from PBKreviews shows the phone&#8217;s motherboard uncovered, revealing the SK Hynix RAM chips that sit above the HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chipset. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="428" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-Motherboard.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-568716" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-Motherboard.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-Motherboard-300x143.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-Motherboard-768x365.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-Motherboard-696x331.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-Motherboard-883x420.jpg 883w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Those are themselves a mystery and SK Hynix has launched an investigation into how its RAM chips made their way into the Mate 60 Pro, as the company says it has not sold to Huawei since 2020.</p>

<p>Additionally, the teardown video shows that the Mate 60 Pro also features a difficult-to-remove display. PBKreviews&#8217; drop test showed that the phone&#8217;s Kunlun 2 glass is very tough, but the 6.82&#8243; LTPO AMOLED display was irreparably damaged in the process of removing it. Here&#8217;s the full video.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Huawei Mate 60 Pro Teardown Disassembly Repair Video Review" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/o_fvf6Hblhs?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>This suggests that the display is glued down very tightly, which would make it difficult and expensive to replace. Ultimately, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro was given a 5/10 repairability rating.</p>

<p>The <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei </a>Kunlun Glass 2 protection featured in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/01/huawei-mate-60-pro-teardown/">Mate 60 Pro</a> has come out shining after going through a series of durability tests. The Kunlun Glass 2 is Huawei’s second-gen in-house protection and it seems to have outshined the Corning Gorilla Glass found in some flagship smartphones. The Kunlun Glass 2 helped the Huawei Mate 60 Pro survive a new torture test that involved being run over by a car.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro" class="wp-image-564793" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-746x420.webp 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro.webp 1068w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 60 Pro </figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The Huawei Mate 60 Pro is Huawei’s flagship model with several improvements from its predecessors. It uses the Kunlun Glass 2 which is more powerful than the first-gen Kunlun Glass. Although the Mate 60 Pro is not available via official channels, the smartphone has undergone a new online torture test by PBKReviews. The device was dropped on a concrete floor repeatedly and it performed excellently. The Mate 60 Pro seemed resistant to cracking, shattering, and scratching after undergoing a comprehensive grit bath. The triple punch hole display of the Mate 60 Pro also stayed intact when the smartphone was run over by a car at low speed. The display was on and fully functional all through the test.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Mate 60 Pro Durability And Drop Test. </div></figure>

<p>Accordingly, PBK Reviews have rated the Huawei Mate 60 Pro to be more rugged than high-end models like the Samsung S23 Ultra which uses the Corning Gorilla Glass. The Kunlun Glass 2 protection of the Mate 60 Pro has given it higher resilience and toughness than the S23 Ultra. Huawei is expected to feature the Kunlun Glass 2 in its subsequent smartphones. It is however unclear at this time whether or when the new technology will be deployed in other brands.</p>

<p>In a bold move against the tide, Huawei has recently expanded its new 5G smartphone lineup with the addition of the Mate 60 Pro+, set to be released on October 9th. The phone stands as a testament to Huawei&#8217;s resilience against the backdrop of U.S. restrictions, as it is engineered with its very own Kirin 5G chipset. Produced by China&#8217;s largest foundry, SMIC, the chip comes as a direct challenge to global semiconductor leaders.</p>

<h3>The Mate 60 Pro+ can connect to two satellites simultaneously </h3>

<p>While Huawei&#8217;s previous devices, the<a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-50"> Mate 50</a> and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-p60">P60 </a>models, had to depend on <a href="http://gizmochina.com/category/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a>&#8216;s chips—modified to disable <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G </a>due to the U.S. sanctions—the Mate 60 Pro and its advanced sibling are self-reliant. These new models not only offer 5G but an intriguing feature: satellite connectivity. The<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/"> Mate 60 Pro+</a> takes it a notch higher, capable of connecting to two satellites simultaneously, adding a new dimension to the &#8216;always connected&#8217; smartphone experience.</p>

<p>However, it&#8217;s important to note that Huawei still has some catching up to do. Its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000s">Kirin 9000s chip</a>, while groundbreaking for Huawei, is still behind in the race. For instance, TSMC&#8217;s 3nm chip that powers the latest iPhones is more efficient and powerful than Huawei&#8217;s<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/7nm"> 7nm</a> chip.</p>

<p>Although trailing behind industry leaders like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc">TSMC </a>and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung">Samsung </a>in chip innovation, Huawei is certainly not lagging in performance. Social media is buzzing with speed tests that show the Mate 60 Pro delivering 5G data speeds surpassing those of even high-end 5G phones. As Dan Hutcheson, an analyst with TechInsights, suggests, this is essentially a &#8220;slap in the face&#8221; to U.S. restrictions.</p>

<p>In a parallel development, Huawei also introduced the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/08/huawei-mate-x5-launched-with-7-85-inch-foldable-display-50mp-triple-cameras/"> Mate X5</a>, a book-style foldable phone. The phone will come with various storage options and a robust camera system, adding more ammunition to Huawei&#8217;s growing arsenal of tech products.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei </a>launched its flagship <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/29/huawei-mate-60-pro-launched-in-china/">Mate 60 series of smartphones</a> in August. Now a new report has revealed some interesting details regarding the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro</a>&#8216;s 5G SoC, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000s/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kirin 9000S</a>. So let&#8217;s take a look.</p>

<h2>Huawei Mate 60 Pro features one of China&#8217;s most advanced chips</h2>

<p>According to a new report from <em><a href="https://www.techinsights.com/blog/techinsights-finds-smic-7nm-n2-huawei-mate-60-pro" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TechInsights</a></em>, the Chinese tech giant&#8217;s Mate 60 Pro features a chip designed by SMIC. For those unaware, SMIC is a major semiconductor manufacturer in China, which marks a major shift away from Huawei&#8217;s previous supplier, TSMC. Huawei was cut off from its primary chip supplier and lost access to advanced chip production for its proprietary HiSilicon Kirin series of mobile processors. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="Huawei_Mate_60_Pro" class="wp-image-563937" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>But now, Huawei smartphones supports 5G connectivity again and will feature China&#8217;s most advanced mobile processor. TechInsights adds that the Huawei Mate 60 Pro in their lab features the latest generation process called N+2 7nm, which marks a major upgrade in Chinese semiconductor manufacturing. The Kirin 9000S has a slightly larger die size (107 mm²) compared to the older Kirin 9000 (105 mm²).</p>

<p>The Huawei Mate 60 Pro features the advanced 7nm-based chipset that is more advanced than SMIC&#8217;s 14nm process node. Furthermore, it features a larger critical dimension than the ones on the 5nm process. SMIC&#8217;s N+2 7nm process will also offer improved scalability and yield, which were major challenges the last time. </p>

<h2>Huawei CEO Denies Qualcomm 5G Chip Supply Rumors, Focuses on Smartphone Business Growth</h2>

<p>Insiders from the industry chain have revealed that Huawei has raised its 2023 smartphone shipment target to 40 million units, a significant increase from the initial target of 30 million units set earlier this year. This positive adjustment can be attributed to the promising prospects of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/23/huawei-p60-series-launch-china/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei&#8217;s P60 series</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/23/huawei-mate-x3-launched-with-120hz-oled-foldable-screen-snapdragon-8-plus-gen-1-50mp-triple-cameras/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate X3</a> smartphones. Additionally, Huawei&#8217;s supply chain has experienced a corresponding recovery, further supporting the company&#8217;s positive outlook.</p>

<p>Amidst these developments, the release of Huawei&#8217;s Mate 60 series remains a possibility. Huawei has demonstrated an intensive schedule of new device releases over the past year, giving hope to enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/25/huawei-mate-60-series-launch-october-5g-onboard/">Mate 60 series</a> in the near future.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="599" height="745" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-render-e1686661306608.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 60 Pro render" class="wp-image-544028" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-render-e1686661306608.jpg 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-render-e1686661306608-241x300.jpg 241w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-render-e1686661306608-338x420.jpg 338w" sizes="(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px" /></figure></div>

<p>Recently, a digital blogger shared a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/07/huawei-mate-60-pro-render-star-oreo-camera-standard-variant-testing/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">conceptual image</a> of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 60 Pro</a>, which exhibits similarities to its predecessor, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-40-pro-4g/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 40 Pro</a>. However, it is important to note that this image is not the final design of the Mate 60 Pro and should be regarded only as a reference.</p>

<p>In related news, The Wall Street Journal reports that the United States plans to extend the deadline for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/05/huawei-us-export-restrictions-nvidia-qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">exemptions from export controls</a> on semiconductors to China. This development is positive for chip companies from South Korea and Taiwan, as it allows them to maintain and expand their business operations in China, benefiting the domestic chip manufacturing industry.</p>

<p>Chinese tech giant <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> is reportedly working on its next-gen flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 60, with several rumors and leaks surfacing about the device including an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/01/huawei-smartphone-leaks-camera-island-mate-60/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">odd-looking circular camera design</a>. The latest updates suggest that the Mate 60 will feature a new &#8216;Oreo-esque&#8217; design, as showcased in a preliminary leak by a well-known tipster, RODENT950. The render reveals that the rear camera housing will be split into two parts with a wide horizontal band, which is the same color as the rest of the rear panel.</p>

<p>According to RODENT950, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-60/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 series</a> will have five new devices with this updated design, including successors for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-50/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 50</a> and a possible future RS variant. The quad rear cameras of the Mate 60 will be XMAGE-branded.</p>

<h2>Huawei begins testing Mate 60 standard model</h2>

<p>According to the tipster Wangzaiknows, Huawei has begun testing the standard Huawei Mate 60 model, and the current test is being conducted with a Snapdragon 8+ chipset. The company has been using Snapdragon 8+ since the launch of the Huawei Mate 50 series, and it has also equipped this chipset in the Huawei P60 lineup. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset uses TSMC’s 4nm technology node, and it provides 30% power consumption efficiency as compared to Snapdragon 8.</p>

<p>However, looking at past trends, Huawei changes the core smartphone components ahead of the final release. Therefore, it is uncertain if the current processor will be used in the final device. The company may use the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 2</a> in the Pro or Pro+ version, while the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 could be utilized for the standard version.</p>

<p>Huawei has not announced an official launch date for the Mate 60 series yet, but it is expected to be introduced at an event in October 2023.</p>
