The Chinese manufacturer had introduced Porsche Design versions for Mate 9 and Mate 10 series. Earlier this year, it had launched the Mate RS Porsche Design smartphone. Since the Porsche design devices are premium products from Huawei, the company has started exclusive services for the users of these devices.

Users who visit a Huawei store or any of its customer care centers in China to enquire or purchase a Porsche design product, they are greeted with exclusive service channel that has specially trained to offer priority services to such customers. Also, Porsche Design users have an exclusive queue page on WeChat.

The Porsche Design user-specific services are available for owners of Mate 9 Porsche Design, Mate 10 Porsche Design, Mate RS Porsche Design, and Huawei Smartwatch Porsche Design. Apart from exclusive service channel, Huawei is offering various other services such as personal reception by the manger, cultural book gifts and a dedicated hotline.

On seeing a Porsche Design customer, the store manager may offer books like “Huawei Series Stories” and “Huawei People’s Work Philosophy” so that the premium customers of the company may learn more about the Huawei culture. Currently, the exclusive services for Porsche Design Huawei devices are only available in China.

In January, Google had confirmed that Huawei is working on its own Daydream Virtual Reality (VR) headset. However, since then, there has been no major update on the arrival of VR headset by Huawei. Now that the device has received FCC (Federal Communications Commission) certification in the U.S., the launch of the Huawei branded Daydream VR seems to be close at hand.

An item dubbed as “virtual reality handle” along with some images has surfaced in FCC documents. It seems to be a controller as it appears quite similar to the one that is available with Google’s Daydream VR. Its top portion could be touch-sensitive and it seems to feature buttons for Home, Return and volume.

The FCC documents reveals that apart from controlling the sound, the volume buttons can be also used for answering or rejecting phone calls while using the VR headset. This suggests that the upcoming VR headset by Huawei is not a standalone device, but it will require users to put their smartphone inside the device and use its screen to show Daydream compatible content.

The FCC documents do not contain images of the VR headset. Even though Google had shown what the VR headset by Huawei would  look like earlier this year, the Chinese manufacturer may have modified the design of the device.

As of this writing, only Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche Design are certified as Daydream VR ready phones by Huawei. It is likely that the recently launched Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro would also bag the certification. Since there are not many Daydream ready Huawei phones in the market, its upcoming VR headset will be compatible with phones from other brands.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 will be held in January 2018. It is likely that Huawei’s Daydream VR headset may get showcased at CES 2018. If not, the company may make it official at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 event in February 2018.

According to a source on Weibo, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro would only see 6,000 units up for grab on that day while 10,000 units of the Mate 9 Porsche Design would be on sales on December 15. The Mate 9 which itself has a beautiful design sold over one million units since inception and considering the sleek and sturdy design of the Mate 9 Pro and Porsche Design, records are expected to be broken, expectations exceeded when the sales commence. Predictably, the Mate 9 Pro would likely be sold out in just few seconds. Even the high price tag on the Porsche Design may not be enough to prevent it from being sold out in seconds.

After the grand release of the Mate 9 and the Mate 9 Porsche Design back in Europe a few days back, now it was time for Huawei to release its new models in its home country, China. However apart from releasing the above-mentioned devices, the tech giant also unveiled a China-exclusive model, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro at the event today.

Since two of the models were already released internationally, you must already be familiar with their design and specs. As for the Mate 9 Pro, take it as a Mate 9 Porsche Design variant, without the Porsche branding to inflate the price.

Here are the key differences between the three models.

The Huawei Mate 9 comes with a 5.9-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and a rear placed fingerprint sensor. There are six color options for this standard model including mocha gold, champagne gold, silver moonlight, ceramic white, gray sky and bright black.

The Huawei Mate 9 Pro on the other hand, comes with a 5.5-inch curved flexible display with the resolution bumped up to 2K and the fingerprint placed on the front. There are four color options for the Pro variant namely amber gold, rose gold, silver and gray.

Finally, the Mate 9 Porsche design version comes with a unique look, as explained in our international launch coverage, featuring a 5.5-inch flexible 2K display, 7.5mm thin body, and front facing fingerprint sensor. This particular limited edition is only available in black color.

While there were some differences, the basic hardware seems to be the same on all the three devices. They are powered by Huawei’s latest chip, the Kirin 960 octa-core processor with Mali-G71 GPU with support for Vulkan graphics standards. These phones support Huawei Pay and also come with chip level built-in security features. There’s a large 4000mAh battery common to the three models with SuperCharge fast charging that promises quick charging times thanks to 3.5-5V / 5A charging standards. They also support Cat. 12 LTE speeds.

The camera is definitely the highlight of the Mate series, and all three have a 20MP monochrome + 12MP color sensor dual camera module at the back. Other camera features include 2x zoom, Laser Focus, OIS, and dual LED flash. Up front, there’s an 8MP f/1.9 aperture shooter. Coming to the software, the three models will run on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box based on EMUI 5.0 interface.

As for the pricing, the Huawei Mate 9 4GB + 32GB version is priced at 3399 Yuan ($497), 4GB + 64GB version is priced at 3899 Yuan ($570), and 6GB + 128GB version is priced at 4499 Yuan ($658).

The Mate 9 Pro starts at 4699 Yuan ($687) for the 4GB + 64GB and goes up to 5299 Yuan ($775) for the 6GB + 128GB version.

The Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design version is priced at 8999 Yuan ($1316) with 6GB + 128GB.

The Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro will go on sale via major retailers in China from today i.e. November 14. The Mate 9 Porsche Design limited edition model will go on sale on December 15.

According to analyst Pan Jiutang, Huawei would release a device even more powerful than the Mate 9 next month. The analyst made this disclosure on Weibo  and even went further to give some highlights of the device’s specs.  The phone will feature Samsung customized four curved screen and would be equipped with a number of sensors as well as capable of achieving artificial intelligence.

Mr Jiutang went further to reveal that the real machine has been seen by insiders and they describe its appearance as stunning. If actually this turns out to be true, Huawei would have succeeded in performing way above our expectations for the year. The company is already positioned to achieve its sales target for the year and now another powerful phone? That’s just awesome.

The Huawei Mate 9 was officially released on Thursday in Munich. The company launched two versions of the device: a 5.9” FHD version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and a 5.5” dual-curved variant with a 2K resolution, 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.

Both of them are pretty expensive. The 5.9” version sells for $775 while the smaller version called the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design is priced at $1547!!!

Although Huawei is still yet to launch the new phones in its home country, China, a source says they will have a cheaper price tag than what they sell for in Europe. This is not surprising as they did the same for the Huawei Nova.

The source says the Mate 9 will be available in multiple versions with different storage options. The prices are as follows:

• Standard Edition with 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM will sell for 3399 Yuan ($503). Available in Sky Gray and Silver Moonlight.

• Standard Edition with 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM will sell for 3699 Yuan ($547). Available in Champagne Gold, Mocha Gold, Ceramic White, and Black Enamel.

• Standard Edition with 6GB RAM + 256GB ROM will sell for 4399 Yuan ($651). Available in Champagne Gold, Mocha Gold, Ceramic White, and Black Enamel.

• Dual-Curved Edition (Non-Porsche Design) with 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM will sell for 4599 Yuan ($680). Available in Sky Gray, Rose Gold, and Silver Moonlight.

• Dual-Curved Edition (Non-Porsche Design) with 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM will sell for 5299 Yuan ($784). Available in Champagne Gold, Ceramic White, and Black Enamel.

• Dual-Curved Edition (Non-Porsche Design) with  6GB RAM + 256GB ROM will sell for 5699 Yuan ($843). Available in Champagne Gold, Ceramic White, and Black Enamel.
