Earlier today (18th June 2021), Huawei announced the latest iteration of the MateBook D 15 in Singapore. It is a budget friendly ultralight notebook that is designed for everyday use and is powered by a 10th Gen Intel Core processor.

The new MateBook D 15 model from the Chinese tech giant is aimed to deliver all round performance, along with a sleek and portable design. It is available in a Mystic Silver color and weighs only 1.56 kilograms. The company has added support for Multi screen collaboration and a Fingerprint sensor on the power button for security. This laptop was also designed for office work, with virtual meetings and multi tasking, and productivity based uses as well.

The new notebook features a 15.6 inch IPD LCD display with a FHD resolution (1920x1080px) and offers a 178 degree viewing angle. Under the hood, an Intel i3-10110U processor runs the device along with Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics card. For memory, the company is offering 8GB of RAM and 256GB of NVMe SSD storage. The laptop is powered by a 42Whr battery and even offers Bluetooth 5.0 support.

The new MateBook D 15 will be available for purchase starting from 26th June 2021 and will be available from Huawei official stores and Shopee. One can also purchase it from Lazada starting from 1st July 2021. It is available for a price of 748 Singapore Dollars (roughly 558 US Dollars). The company is also offering an exclusive product launch price of 698 Singapore Dollars (roughly 520 US Dollars) by applying a limited vouched that will be available on checkout from June 25 to June 30 on Shopee.

Earlier today (23rd December 2020), Huawei held the launch conference for the Nova 8 series along with which the company launched the 2021 editions of the MateBook D 14 and MateBook D 15 notebooks. These laptops arrive as refreshes within the lineup and feature Intel’s latest 11th gen processors.

MateBook D 14 2021

The new Huawei MateBook D series lineup arrives as refreshes over their 2020 counterparts and features Intel’s 11th Gen processors, over the current gen’s 10th Gen or AMD Ryzen 4000 series variants. The laptop features a 14 inch display and features either an i7-1165G7 or i5-1135G7, paired with a 512GB of SSD storage and 16GB of RAM. For graphics, customers get an option of either Intel’s latest integrated Xe graphics options or a dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX450 mobile GPU.

The laptop features 100 percent sRGB screens and is said to arrive with a performance increase of up to 1.6 times, as per official claims. To boost productivity, the notebook supports multi screen options that can support up to three smartphone windows being open at the same time, offering users more functionality.

MateBook D 15 2021

Alongside the 14 inch variant, Huawei even launched a refresh of its 15 inch counterpart, the 2021 MateBook D 15. Similar to the D 14, the larger sibling also features an anti glare display with 100 percent sRGB support, low blue lights, reduced flicked, and more to protect the users’ eyes. Under the hood, one can choose between Intel’s 11th Gen Core i5 or i7. The storage options also remain the same between the two models, although, users can also opt for an i5 with the Nvidia MX450 GPU as well.

Huawei had launched the latest entry in its MateBook D 15 lineup back in November 2019. The laptop was an ultrabook Windows system and featured Intel‘s i5 processor alongside 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD (Solid State Drive) and a regular 1TB of HDD storage.

Now, a couple of months after its original launch, Huawei has now released a new variant of the laptop that features an improved 512GB SSD and Nvidia’s MX250 mobile gaming GPU. For those unaware, MateBook D 15 sports a 15.6 inch IPS anti glare display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080px. Its touchpad was larger than its previous iterations and its configuration brought in numerous improvements to performance.

Huawei’s MateBook D 15 laptops also house Intel’s latest 10th generation Core processors alongside Nvidia mobile GPUs. It is powered by a 65W USB Type C power adapter that weighs just about 160 grams. Interestingly, the Chinese tech giant’s laptop even supported fast charging for certain Huawei smartphones as well. All in all, the laptop was a solid offering, but its viability has been further improved.

The price of the newest version is 5,199 Yuan which roughly translates to about 732 US Dollars. Notably, the key difference between an SSD and an HDD storage is read and write speeds, with SSDs being faster than its disk variant by a large margin that also makes it more expensive. Hence, the bumped up storage version might be an extremely attractive offering.

Huawei had announced the 2020 MateBook D 14 and the D 15 in Shanghai back in November 2019. Both devices have just launched in the United Kingdom. Contrary to the Chinese launch, the laptops will be available in a single configuration and color choice in the UK.

According to Huawei, the MateBook D 14 and D 15 offer greater performance, robust build quality, and a chic design. The laptops are also considerably lighter than the predecessor. The D14 is priced significantly higher than the MateBook D15, due to its ultra-portability and the fact that it packs a larger battery and more internal storage.

2020 Huawei MateBook D Series Specifications and Features

Both the Huawei MateBook D 14 and the D 15 flaunt Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:9. While the D 14 sports a 14-inch display, the D 15 flaunts a 15.6-inch screen. The laptops sport a screen-to-body ratio of 84 percent and 87 percent respectively. The laptops are designed to open up to 178-degree.

Both the MateBook D14 and D 15 draw power from a 12nm AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor with AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics. Both devices sport 8GB of DDR4 dual-channel RAM and flaunt 512 GB and 256 GB of storage respectively. Huawei has introduced its new Shark Fin 2.0 cooling setup that offers better performance than its predecessor.

While the MateBook D 14 is powered by a 56Wh battery the D 15 draws power from a 42Wh unit. Both laptops support 65W charging and come with a USB Type-C charger. Connectivity options include an HDMI port, a USB Type-C port, two full-sized USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone port.

File transfer between Huawei smartphones is made easy with the OneHop interface that connects to brand smartphones at a single tap and starts file transfer instantly. Users can also control their Huawei smartphones from the new MateBook D, or share clipboards using OneHop.

The Huawei MateBook D 14 measures 322.5 x 214.8 x 15.9 mm and flaunts a 4.8 mm display. The MateBook D 15 measures 357.8 x 229.9 x 16.9 mm and sports a 5.3 mm display.

2020 Huawei MateBook D Series price and availability

Huawei launched the MateBook D 14 at £649. While the MateBook D 15 is priced at £599. Both laptops run on Windows 10 and are scheduled to arrive in the UK on February 21. Huawei is yet to announce the prices and a tentative launch date globally.

The Chinese manufacturer had also launched an optional MateBook D 15 Ryzen Edition with a cheaper starting price of 3,999 Yuan (~$574). Starting from today, the MateBook D 15 Ryzen Edition is available for purchase in the home market.

On Vmall, the MateBook D 15 Ryzen Edition is listed in two variants. The first one has 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of SDD and 1 TB of HDD storage. This model is priced at 3,999 Yuan (~$574). The other model has 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB of SDD and 1 TB of HDD storage. This variant costs 4,299 Yuan (~$617). Apart from White, the MateBook D 15 Ryzen Edition comes in Space Gray. However, the gray color variant is not yet available for purchase.

In comparison, the Intel i5 8 GB and 16 GB RAM variants of MateBook D 15 are priced at 5,299 Yuan (~$760) and 5,599 Yuan (~$803). The Intel i7 edition with 16 GB RAM is priced at 6,599 Yuan (~$947). All three Intel powered models have 256 GB of SSD storage, 1 TB of HDD storage and Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics.

The MateBook D 15 Ryzen Edition has an aluminum chassis measures 357.8 x 229.9 x 16.9 mm and it weighs 1.62 kg. The device is fitted with a 15.6-inch IPS display that offers full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It promises a screen-to-body ratio of 87 percent. The notebook is equipped with a full-sized keyboard along with a trackpad. An HD camera that is good enough for video calling is available on the device.

The AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor powers the MateBook D 15 Ryzen Edition along with Radeon Vega 8 graphics. It is backed by 42Wh battery that supports 65W USB-C pocket charger. By charging the device for 30 minutes will allow it to gain 53 percent battery power.
