THe Maze Comet is the latest smartphone from Maze, a newcomer in the Chinese smartphone market. The smartphone is its third device since it began operations this year. Pre-sale has kicked off and early buyers will be able to get it at a discounted price.

The Maze Comet shares a striking resemblance to the Gionee M2017 – a luxury smartphone released at the end of last year. But while the M2017 sells for over a $1000, Maze is asking for a fraction of that for the Comet.

The cheap price doesn’t mean the Comet doesn’t pack some luxury features. For instance, its back is covered with calfskin leather and there is a 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 covering its 5.7” HD+ display.

The Maze Comet is powered by a MT6750T processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. You can add up to an additional 128GB via its second SIM slot.

Its rear camera is a 13MP Sony IMX258 sensor with a F/2.0 aperture and there is an 8MP front facing camera for selfies. Below the display is a fingerprint scanner. The Maze Comet has  a 4,000mAh non-removable battery, a USB-C 2.1 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

It runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, has Bluetooth 4.1 and dual band Wi-Fi. The Maze Comet has a dual SIM tray (nano only) and supports LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 8, and 20.

One of the new players in the Chinese smartphone market is Maze. They gained popularity with the announcement of their upcoming bezel-less smartphone, the Maze Alpha. Although the Alpha is yet to launch, their second smartphone, the Maze Blade is now available for purchase for $129.99.

Maze has released an unboxing video for the Blade. The 5.5-inch device is packed in a black cardboard box and comes with the usual accessories such as a USB cable, travel charger, SIM ejection tool and some paperwork. We also get a glimpse of the device itself and it does look pretty big.

The Maze Blade has a 5.5-inch FHD screen, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. There is a 13MP camera on the rear and an 8MP front facing camera. The Blade is powered by a MT6753 octa-core chip clocked at 1.3GHz that draws power from a 3000mAh battery. The device runs Android 6.0 and is available in black, gold, and silver.

The Maze Blade is the second device from newcomer Maze. Their first device is the Maze Alpha, a bezel-less phone set to take on Xiaomi’s Mi MIX. The Maze Blade is being marketed as the budget-killer and from the images looks to be set on that path.

A first look at the Maze Blade and it reminds you of another device, the Sony Xperia Z5. From the 7H glass back to the circular physical power button on the right side of the anodized aluminium frame, to the huge front bezels, its more than a striking resemblance.

Where it differs from Sony’s phone is in the position of the fingerprint scanner which sits in front. Another difference is in the outlay of the rear camera setup and the use of capacitive buttons. Fans of the Xperia Z5’s design will definitely like the Maze Blade.

The Maze Blade is not just a good-looking device. It also packs some interesting specs. There is  3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and the screen is a 5.5-inches FHD display. The rear camera on is a 13MP Sony IMX 214 sensor with OIS and EIS. Now that is something you don’t see in a budget device.  Up front sits an 8MP Sony IMX 179 84° wide-angle camera.

The Maze Blade is powered by a MT6753 octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz which draws power from a 3000mAh battery. There is Android 6.0 Marshmallow running on it and support for dual SIMs and a memory card.

The phone measures 158.5 x 77 x 8 mm and weighs 190g. It is available in gold, silver, and black and will go on sale early this month on different online platforms. There is no price yet but we expect the Maze Blade will not only be killing the other budget phones with its looks but also its price.
