For quite some time, there has been an ongoing battle between iOS and Android in the realm of mobile operating systems, and Huawei joined this competition at some point. Despite HarmonyOS being available for a while, it hasn’t gained much popularity beyond China and doesn’t seem likely to do so. The main reason for this lack of traction is the absence of many popular apps on the AppGallery. This implies that users who switch from Android or iOS may need to forgo even the simplest applications.

While it’s not impossible to install these apps, the technicalities involved may not be of much interest to the average user. However, it appears that this issue is gradually becoming a thing of the past as McDonald’s has begun developing a native app for Huawei HarmonyOS. Here are the details….

McDonald’s Joins HarmonyOS Ecosystem, Starts Developing Native App

A Chinese blogger has claimed that McDonald’s has started developing a native Huawei HarmonyOS app. The blogger shared photos of a signing ceremony and launch event between Huawei and McDonald’s China. However, Huawei has not yet officially confirmed the news. If you believe there’s nothing remarkable about the McDonald’s app, think again. McDonald’s is a US-based restaurant and it is very important that it made such a decision despite the US pressure.

As we mentioned above, HarmonyOS faces a notable challenge beyond China due to the lack of commonly used everyday applications. This could be just the beginning, and we might witness global companies stepping in to contribute to HarmonyOS. Their involvement could boost its competitiveness by expanding the array of applications available on the platform. In September, the companies CEO Richard Yu announced that HarmonyOS NEXT, the next version of HarmonyOS, is ready for release.

He said that native HarmonyOS apps will bring a historic leap forward for the mobile app ecosystem, with smoother, smarter, and more secure experiences. Huawei has said that companies and developers from a variety of industries, including finance, travel, and social media, have already joined the HarmonyOS ecosystem and are developing native HarmonyOS apps. However, this is expected to increase further

Notably, the announcement was made by Xiaomi Turkey, so it is currently unclear if this offer will also extend to countries outside of this region. The new partnership was officially unveiled earlier this week, with the Chinese tech giant even sharing an Instagram post from their official Turkish account. This social media post revealed their cooperating with the popular fast food giant and even shared details of this promotional offers.

As of right now, people that purchase a Redmi Note 11 series phone in the region will also receive special McDonald’s coupon. These coupons can then be traded for two McChicken based Menu options (burgers) as well as Ice Cream Sundae. As of right now, it is unknown as to how long this offer will be available in Turkey. So, for those looking to buy a new Redmi Note 11 series smartphone, this offer might help sweeten the deal (no pun intended).

Hopefully, the Chinese smartphone maker also rolls out this promotional offer to other regions as well. So stick around for more, as we will be providing updates if there are any notable developments regarding this matter.

Kytch had worked to invent and sell a device that was meant to fix the ice cream machines in the McDonald’s franchise. However, in the course of the evolution of the Kytch solution, McDonald’s pulled the plug and terminated the arrangement. The Kytch legal complaint against McDonald’s was filed a few days back and Kytch is accusing the company of false advertising and tortious interference in its contracts with customers. The Kytch co-founders are therefore asking for $900 million in damages for the stated infringements.

The complaint relates to Kytch’s phone-sized gadget which was designed to be installed inside McDonald’s ice cream machines. Since 2019 when the Kytch devices started to be installed in McDonald’s franchises, the device was able to help owners of McDonald’s ice cream machines remotely monitor and troubleshoot their devices. But a November 2020 email from McDonald’s to its franchisees directed them to immediately remove the Kytch device from their ice cream machines.

McDonald’s had stated that the Kytch device violated the ice cream machine’s warranties and intercepted their confidential information. McDonald’s also alleged that the Kytch device posed a safety threat that could lead to serious human injury. Kytch insists that these claims were false and defamatory.

Kytch also stated pointed to an alleged demarketing campaign which also led to McDonald’s promoting a new ice cream machine built by another company and offering similar features as the Kytch’s device. McDonald’s latest lawsuit is not the first by Kytch, as the company had also sued McDonald’s and others for allegedly stealing its trade secrets.

McDonald’s says it has committed no crime and the Kytch claims were meritless. It remains to be seen how the case pans out when the legal fireworks begin.

The company had released various teaser poster images that depicted a device with thin bezels, but all of those have turned out to be untrue. What McDonald’s actually released is a new fried chicken.

This was move was obviously done in a humorous manner and also involved jumping on the 5G bandwagon that the smartphone industry is on. McDonald’s is well known for its famous McNuggets, and this crispy fried chicken is also in line with the same. It will be available in China and has been made with special sauces and spices, according to official notes.

Although McDonald’s didn’t actually end up launching a 5G product, but it was a hilarious campaign. To begin with, the company isn’t based around or related to technology, but boasts of launching a 5G smart product without any pre announced partnership with any electronics company.

The fast food giant is going to launch a 5G smart product in China, on the 15th of April 2020.

The company also shared various teasers and promotional images of the same. However, it is currently unknown what exactly the smart product is, and how the newer and faster bandwidth ties in with it. Although from what we can gather, the new product will have a display surrounded by thin bezels. It will even feature a wide angle lens, which will support facial recognition as well.

Editor’s Pick: Don’t update your Mi A3 to Android 10; Xiaomi pulls back the update for the third time

Amongst other news, the device will also have speakers and will support 5G networking. As of right now, it is also unclear if this is a collaboration between McDonald’s and a tech industry brand. This may still be likely, considering the company primarily focuses on the fast food industry and not technology, but that sort of collaboration would’ve seen more advertising or promotion.

Thus, we can only wait for the official announcement to know for sure, what the device in question actually is. The date of the conference is 15th April 2020, so stay tuned as we will be covering the event and more.

Not only is the company innovative, it recently demonstrated its drive to promote a sustainable planet with a new initiative launched in Sweden. The initiative will see the fast-food chain provide beehives on the rooftops of some of its restaurants in the country. The move is aimed at preserving the rapidly decreasing bee population. The franchise will also replace the grasses around its restaurants with various flowers and plants that would promote a stable ecosystem for the bee population.

The laudable initiative is a collaboration between McDonald’s Sweden and advertising agency NORD DDB. The ad agency created what could pass for the world’s smallest restaurant and it is named McHive.

The McHive is actually a redesigned beekeeping box hives that look like a modern-day McDonald’s restaurant. The beehive is fitted with the brand’s golden arches and features an exterior with tweaks such as a drive-thru, various advertisements, and more, all scaled down in size to fit the size of the beehives.

According to Christoffer Rönnblad, marketing director of McDonald’s Sweden “We have a lot of really devoted franchisees who contribute to our sustainability work, and it feels good that we can use our size to amplify such a great idea as beehives on the rooftops – this miniature McDonald’s is a tribute to franchisee Christina Richter’s initiative.”
