A Huawei tablet with model number d-02k has been spotted on the FCC&#8217;s website. This tablet is also referred to as “ Huawei Mediapad M5 wp” in the documents.</p>
<p>The FCC documents don&#8217;t reveal the key specs but there are a few details available along with a schematic diagram of the device.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-193237" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mediapad M5 wp" width="1359" height="709" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp.jpg 1359w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp-768x401.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp-1024x534.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1359px) 100vw, 1359px" /></p>
<p>Looking at the diagram above, the first thing that draws your attention is the camera setup on the rear. While some may think the device will have dual cameras, the more plausible explanation is that the second hole is for the LED flash. So unlike the other tablets in the series, this one should perform better in low-light conditions thanks to the included LED flash.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-193238" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp-FCC.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Mediapad M5 wp FCC" width="1080" height="637" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp-FCC.png 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp-FCC-300x177.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp-FCC-768x453.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Huawei-Mediapad-M5-wp-FCC-1024x604.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>

<p>Other details we can make out from the diagram include stereo speakers with Harman Kardon audio technology, a 3.5mm audio jack, a slot for a microSD card at the top, and a micro-USB port at the bottom. The documents also reveal the device has Bluetooth 4.2 LE and support for dual-band WiFi.</p>

After <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/02/25/huawei-launches-matebook-x-pro-super-thin-bezels/">unveiling the Matebook X Pro</a> with super-thin bezels, the China-based company has now announced its new high-end Android tablet &#8212; Huawei MediaPad M5.</p>
<p>The company has announced two variants &#8212; MediaPad M5 and MediaPad M5 Pro. While the M5 will be available in two screen sizes &#8212; 8.4-inch display and a 10.8-inch display, the M5 Pro will be available in only one size &#8212; 10.8-inch. Both screen sizes come with curved glass displays, 2560 x 1600 pixels screen resolution and IPS panels.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-175476 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Huawei-MediaPad-M5.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei MediaPad M5" width="837" height="500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Huawei-MediaPad-M5.jpg 837w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Huawei-MediaPad-M5-300x179.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Huawei-MediaPad-M5-768x459.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 837px) 100vw, 837px" /></p>
<p>Under the hood, the tablets are powered by the company&#8217;s own HiSilicon Kirin 960s processor. This is similar to the Kirin 960 but with a dedicated NPU like the Kirin 970. As of the memory configuration, both devices pack 4GB RAM and offers three storage variants &#8212; 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. There&#8217;s also a microSD card slot allowing users to further expand the storage capacity up to 256GB.</p>
<p>The devices come with an aluminum unibody construction, with four speakers on the 10.8-inch and two speakers on the 8.4-inch. All the speakers are placed on the rear panel and are co-engineered with Harmon/Kardon.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s a 13-megapixel camera sensor placed on the back panel and an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper for video calling. It also features a fingerprint sensor which is embedded in the home button. The devices are running on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-oreo/">Android 8.0 Oreo</a> operating system with the company&#8217;s own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/15/huawei-rolls-out-android-oreo-based-emui-8-0/">EMUI 8.0</a> on top.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-175477 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Huawei-MediaPad-M5-Pro.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro" width="1023" height="444" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Huawei-MediaPad-M5-Pro.jpg 1023w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Huawei-MediaPad-M5-Pro-300x130.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Huawei-MediaPad-M5-Pro-768x333.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1023px) 100vw, 1023px" /></p>
<p>The MediaPad M5 Pro also comes with added support for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei/">Huawei</a>’s M-Pen that features 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and support for tilting and shading and can last for about 50 days on a single charge. Further, the Pro model will also support a detachable keyboard and will offer a desktop-type view with expanded file management features.</p>
<p>Connectivity options on the device include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and Bluetooth v4.2. All variants of the tablet will also be available with 4G LTE option.</p>
<p>The MediaPad M5 with 8.4-inch display is powered by a 5,100mAh battery that the company says is good for 11 hours of 1080p video, and can be charged in two hours. The 10.8-inch model is powered by a larger 7,500mAh battery that can be charged in about 3 hours using the fast charge technology.</p>

<p>The MediaPad M5 10 Pro can be seen placed inside an official Keyboard Folio Cover. The leakster claims since there is a large cutout for the rear camera, it seems the tablet will possess impressive photography capabilities. The home button of the tablet is embedded with a fingerprint sensor. The leakster had revealed earlier in this month that the M5 10 Pro will carry support for M-Pen stylus and LTE connectivity. It is expected to launch with a price tag of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/02/14/mediapad-m5-8-10-10-pro-variants-leaked-along-pricing/">520 euros (~$639).</a></p>

The MediaPad M5 would be a successor to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/09/01/huawei-unveils-mediapad-m3-8-4-inch-2k-display-kirin-950/">MediaPad M3 </a>which was first launched in 2016. The device <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/27/huawei-mediapad-m5-clears-fcc-packing-4980mah-battery/">recently got the nod at FCC</a> indicating a launch in the US is imminent. We have also seen the schematics of the device in a recent leak which suggests there would be a change in design. The Huawei MediaPad M5 has now been spotted on Geekbench and it pulls an impressive result.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mediapad-m3-huawei.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-96387" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mediapad-m3-huawei.jpg?x44794" alt="mediapad m3 huawei" width="728" height="523" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mediapad-m3-huawei.jpg 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mediapad-m3-huawei-300x216.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></a></p>
<p>The Mediapad M5 appeared on the benchmark platform with the model number Huawei SHT-AL09. The Geekbench listing reveals that the device will pack a Kirin 960 chipset, a detail which is already known. Also listed is an Android 8.0 Oreo operating system while the processor is backed by 4GB of RAM. The benchmark result shows that the device pulling a score of 6617 on the multicore test and a single core test score of 1905 points.</p>

<p>The MediaPad M5 is expected to feature an 8.4-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels just like the M3. The tablet would be powered by the last year’s flagship Kirin 960 chipset. The device will also feature a fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C port, stereo speakers, and Cat. 4 LTE modem. Providing the interface would be EMUI 6.0 based on Android Oreo. The device is expected to be launched anytime soon and was even tipped to drop at the recently held CES 2018. Thus, we cannot rule out an MWC 2018 unveiling even though Huawei is yet to officially disclose if that would happen.</p>

The 8.4&#8221; model was recently seen on FCC&#8217;s website a few days ago. Now, its 3D renders alongside that of the 10.1&#8221; model have surfaced online.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-169809" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-b.jpg?x44794" alt="MediaPad M5 8.4''" width="1200" height="900" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-b.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-b-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-b-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-b-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-b-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<h4>MediaPad M5 (8.4&#8221; Model)</h4>
<p>The 8.4&#8221; MediaPad M5 has a pill-shaped button on the lower bezel. This will double as the home button and fingerprint scanner just like that of the MediaPad M3. There is also a front-facing camera sitting in the center of the top bezel.</p>
<p>While there is no significant change on the front, the back has been redesigned. The rear camera now sits at the top left corner and is slightly raised. Huawei has also ditched the chrome top and added antenna lines in the familiar U-design.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-169810" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4.jpg?x44794" alt="MediaPad M5 8.4''" width="1200" height="1200" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-8.4-270x270.jpg 270w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>On the right hand side lies the power button and volume rocker and on the left is a SIM tray. There is a USB-C port at the bottom and it is flanked by speaker grilles on each side. There is also a speaker grille at the top but sadly there is no 3.5mm audio jack.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-169808 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-10.1-e1517152355366.jpg?x44794" alt="MediaPad M5 10.1''" width="1137" height="873" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-10.1-e1517152355366.jpg 1137w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-10.1-e1517152355366-300x230.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-10.1-e1517152355366-768x590.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-10.1-e1517152355366-1024x786.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/MediaPad-M5-10.1-e1517152355366-285x220.jpg 285w" sizes="(max-width: 1137px) 100vw, 1137px" /></p>
<h4>MediaPad M5 (10.1&#8221; Model)</h4>
<p>The bigger MediaPad M5 has received a slight redesign on the front. On the previous model, the home button sits at the bottom when held in landscape mode, the M5 now has its own on the right side (bottom when in portrait).</p>
<p>The reason for this is most likely because the 10.1&#8221; model will now come with a fingerprint scanner. Since landscape mode is the most practical way to use a tab this big, especially when consuming media content, your thumb naturally rests on the right. This makes it easy to unlock when picked up.</p>

<p>There are a bunch of changes on the rear too. The speaker grille is now one long line line at the top instead of two short lines at the bottom. There are also three connection pins at the bottom. Power button and volume rocker are still on the right though.</p>
<p>Although, the renders show all the sides, there is no sign of a USB-port for charging as well as a 3.5mm audio jack. This is a 3D render, so it is likely an incomplete drawing. That should explain the missing USB port, though we won&#8217;t rule out the removal of the audio jack.</p>

<p>The MediaPad M5 is expected to be unveiled at MWC 2018. Leaked specs say the tablet should come with a Kirin 960 but we are unsure if the 10.1&#8221; variant will get the same chipset. The 10.1&#8221; MediaPad M3 launched with a Lite moniker and a Snapdragon 435 processor instead of Kirin 650 like the 8.4&#8221; variant.</p>
<p>Now that it seems to have ditched the “Lite” suffix, it may also feature high end-specs like the 8.4&#8221; model.</p>

It is speculated to arrive as the successor for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/09/20/huawei-mediapad-m3-launched-china/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MediaPad M3 slate that was unveiled in October this year</a>.</p>
<p>Well, with the rumor of MediaPad M5 surfacing after the MediaPad M3, it can be guessed that the company would be skipping the MediaPad M4 moniker for its upcoming MediaPad tablet as the number 4 is considered bad omen in some of the Asian countries including China.</p>
<p>The MediaPad M5’s Bluetooth certification has revealed that it will be supporting v4.2 Bluetooth. The device will be carrying an 8.4-inch screen that will be supporting a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The powerful Kirin 960 chipset will be present under the hood of the MediaPad M5. It will be shipping with Android 8.0 Oreo and EMUI 8.0 skin</p>

<p>The tablet is expected to feature a fingerprint scanner and Cat. 4 LTE modem. Other features include a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB-C port. As of this writing, there is no information on the build of the device. However, it is speculated that the MediaPad M5 would be featuring an aluminum body as well as stereo speakers like the M3.</p>
<p>The Chinese firm is yet to confirm the existence of the tablet. However, since the device has received Bluetooth certification, it can be guessed that it will be releasing soon. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 will be held in early January at Las Vegas.</p>
<p>Previous reports have claimed that the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will be announced at CES 2018 for the U.S. markets. These phones are rumored to be available through AT&amp;T and Verizon in the country. It is speculated that the Chinese company will be using the same platform to debut the MediaPad M5 tablet. It may be priced around $350 like the MediaPad M3.</p>
