<p>India&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/smart-tv/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">smart TV</a> market saw significant growth in 2022, despite macroeconomic headwinds such as persistent inflation. According to the latest market tracker from Counterpoint, smart TV shipments in India grew by 28% YoY in 2022, with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mediatek/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MediaTek</a> chips powering three-fifths of the smart TVs shipped in the country. Additionally, smart TVs accounted for 90% of total TV shipments in India, marking a record high.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi</a> continued to lead the market, with a 10.5% share, followed closely by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung Electronics</a>. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vu/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vu</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tcl/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TCL</a> were among the fastest-growing brands in the smart TV segment, with OnePlus-branded smart TV shipments growing 80% annually.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="668" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek-1024x668.jpg?x23692" alt="Smart TVs MediaTek" class="wp-image-528374" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek-1024x668.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek-300x196.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek-768x501.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek-1536x1002.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek-696x454.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek-1068x696.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek-644x420.jpg 644w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smart-TVs-MediaTek.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>According to Counterpoint Research analyst Akash Jatwala, Indian consumers prefer smart TVs with bigger screens and Dolby integration, and many brands are launching smart TVs with Google TV OS in the mid-segment (INR 30,000-50,000). Additionally, global, Chinese, and Indian brands accounted for 40%, 36%, and 24% of shares, respectively.</p>

<p>Market leader Xiaomi, which just celebrated its fifth anniversary in the Indian smart TV market, announced that all of its smart TVs sold in India are 100% made locally. The Bureau of Indian Standards reports that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi&#8217;s</a> smart TVs sold in the country are made by TTE Electronics, Dixon, and Radiant.</p>

<p>The growth of the smart TV market in India is expected to continue, with affordable choices and more product launches. This growth is driven by the increasing availability of smart TVs with popular features like Dolby integration and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-tv/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google TV OS</a>. As more brands enter the market and competition intensifies, it will be interesting to see how market shares shift and what new innovations are being brought to the Indian smart TV market.</p>

<p>Earlier today (7th January 2020), the chipmaker told <a href="https://www.yicai.com/news/100905046.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Yicai</em> </a>that as a global smartphone chipset supplier, MediaTek aims to cooperate with various smartphone OEMs and vendors and will seek to bring its leading technology to its customers and consumers across the globe. The company said that &#8220;At present, Honor is a newly established independent company, and we are evaluating the current situation.&#8221;</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/07/realme-v15-china-launch-specs-price-features/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">realme V15 5G launched in China with Dimensity 800U, AMOLED display, and 50W fast charging</a></strong></h6>
<p>This also arrives amid reports surfacing of Honor already working with ODM manufacturers for its upcoming products, right after its independence from Huawei. These rumored devices will apparently run with MediaTek&#8217;s latest chipsets, although, the company has yet to respond to this matter. The report also claims that the company is expected to launch MediaTek powered Honor smartphones by mid 2021.</p>

<p>Just yesterday, it was reported that Qualcomm and Honor are cooperating to resume the chip supply. The American chipmaker will now be able to supply Honor as the latter is not in the US Entity list and no longer falls under Huawei. However, the report also claimed that a large supply of chips will have to wait till at least the second quarter of 2021. As per a research report, the resumption in supply would grow MediaTek&#8217;s (chip) and Honor&#8217;s (smartphones) shipments in China and overseas market, but the former is still evaluating the brand&#8217;s performance in both areas.</p>

<p>For those unaware, MediaTek was recently accused of cheating on benchmarks. According to AnandTech, the chipmaker pushes its chipsets to unsustainable &#8216;Sports Mode&#8217; during benchmarks. This improves the scoring of the smartphone, which displays inaccurate scores. The tampering of the scores could potentially act as advertising if it is greater than the competition and could also be misleading.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_272756" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-272756" style="width: 690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-272756 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/MediaTek-G90T.jpg?x23692" alt="MediaTek g90t vs qualcomm 730g" width="690" height="482" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/MediaTek-G90T.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/MediaTek-G90T-300x210.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/MediaTek-G90T-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/MediaTek-G90T-601x420.jpg 601w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-272756" class="wp-caption-text">MediaTek G90T</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Thus, UL Benchmarks (previously known as Futuremark) have delisted every smartphone in their platform that runs a MediaTek processor, especially the newer generations. This isn&#8217;t the first time the firm has resorted to delisting, as back in 2013, the company had also delisted HTC and Samsung smartphone for cheating. The names of chipsets blacklisted by UL Benchmarks include MediaTek&#8217;s Helio G90, G70, P96, P90, P65, P60, P20, and A22.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/17/huami-dismisses-rumors-about-xiaomi-reducing-its-investment-in-the-company-confirms-mi-band-5-launch-this-year/">Huami dismisses rumors about Xiaomi reducing its investment in the company, confirms Mi Band 5 launch this year</a></strong></h6>
<p>The official reasoning given out was in two parts. First, the discrepancies in performance numbers found by AnandTech was confirmed by UL Benchmarks. Furthermore, the latter has its own benchmarking rules and called quoted MediaTek&#8217;s statement which practically confirmed in its misleading practices for benchmarks.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-279810 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/MediaTek-5G-SoC-Featured.png?x23692" alt="MediaTek 5G SoC Featured" width="714" height="413" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/MediaTek-5G-SoC-Featured.png 714w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/MediaTek-5G-SoC-Featured-300x174.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/MediaTek-5G-SoC-Featured-696x403.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 714px) 100vw, 714px" /></p>
<p>Oddly enough, MediaTek still stands by its benchmarking scores and practices, and is firmly convinced of no wrongdoings. Interestingly, the chipmaker also offers OEMs the option to enable the cheat, so its discretion is also subjective. Thus, the argument falls in a slightly gray area, since whitelisting applications for performance boosts is universally frowned upon, but also depends on the OEM that is using the processor.</p>

We also got some important details about the upcoming chipset like its architecture and GPU. Now, Taiwanese media seems to have more details on the new Helio X30 and X35 chipset.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Helio-x300-announced.jpg?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-91290 size-full" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Helio-x300-announced-e1474205398680.jpg?x23692" alt="Helio X30 specs" width="600" height="349" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Helio-x300-announced-e1474205398680.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Helio-x300-announced-e1474205398680-300x175.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Like expected, the Helio X30 chipset is said to be manufactured on TSMC&#8217;s 10nm process. Considering that the Helio X20 was built on 20nm process, this is a much-needed upgrade for the new age chip. It is said that MediaTek first planned on using TSMC&#8217;s 16nm manufacturing node for its new chips, but after considering the stiff competition from Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon range, it decided to use the much more advanced and efficient 10nm process.</p>
<p>It is also said that the production and design of the new chip is on schedule and the chip should enter mass production sometime by the end of this year / early 2017. So, if you were expecting to meet this new Cortex A73 Artemis powered chipset, then your wait will easily extend to mid-2017.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Mediatek.jpg?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-77582 size-full" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Mediatek-e1474205560278.jpg?x23692" alt="Helio X30" width="580" height="292" /></a></p>
<p>As for the Helio X35, like this year, expect the difference to be in the maximum frequency. According to the company, the Helio X30 will come with 2 x Cortex A73 Artemis cores clocked at 2.8GHz, 4 x Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 4 x Cortex A35 Cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. Even the GPU is upgraded, now using PowerVR 7XT quad-core GPU chip. Helio X35 should use the same architecture but clocked at a higher frequency. Now, considering that Helio X30 is already clocked at 2.8GHz, can we expect 3GHz on the X35? Also, it will be built on the same efficient 10nm process as the Helio X30.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s still a lot of time for the official launch of an Helio X30 powered smartphone, and things might change to a certain extent during this period. So, stay tuned to gizmochina as more details about these upcoming chips emerge in the next few months.</p>
