Today, the company has confirmed that the Vivo S9 will be announced on 3rd March in China.

The company has also roped in the well-known Thai musician and singer LiSA from the Kpop group Blackpink as an ambassador for the smartphone. Going by the teaser video shared by Vivo, the company seems to have changed its focus for the device this time.

The video teaser shows tag-lines like “Illuminating My Beauty” and “Very Night Soft Light Selfie”, which indicates that the company is now focusing on the front-facing camera technology instead of the primary camera in the previous models.

Coming to the specifications, leaks have revealed that it will be the first smartphone to be powered by the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 1100 chipset. Reports indicate another smartphone named Vivo S9e could also be launched, powered by MediaTek Dimensity 820.

As per the TENAA listing, the smartphone will come with a 6.44-inch display offering 90Hz refresh rate and will feature a 44-megapixel dual camera setup on the front side. As for the camera configuration on the back panel, the device has a 64-megapixel primary sensor but nothing much is known.

Now, coming to the memory configuration, the device is expected to pack up to 12GB of RAM. For connectivity, it supports 5G Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB). The phone will be powered by a 4,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging technology. It runs the latest Android 11 operating system out-of-the-box, likely with the company’s own OriginOS custom interface on top.

Important Features of Dimensity 1100, 1200 5G chipsets

Connectivity– Both the Dimensity 1100 and 1200 have an integrated 5G modem inside. They also have the company’s special UltraSave tech to tackle huge power constraints of 5G. Additionally, the chipsets support SA/NSA 5G(sub-6GHz, 5G+5G Dual-SIM), 2CC carrier aggregation across frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD), dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS).

It must be noted that Dimensity 1200 chipset has got TÜV Rheinland certification for its 5G performance covering 72 real-world scenarios.

Other connectivity features include the latest Wi-Fi 6, GNSS L1+L5(navigation), Bluetooth 5.2,

Camera Features– Out of the two, MediaTek says that Dimensity 1200 supports up to 200MP single camera. You also get the five-core HDR-ISP(Image Signal Processor) with 4K HDR video capture support. The Dimensity 1100, on the other hand only has up to 108MP single camera support.

Both the chipsets have common features like 32MP+16MP dual camera support.

The company has already launched a few chips under the lineup and is now set to launch more.

The company has today confirmed by sharing a poster on its social media account that it will launch new Dimensity series products in China on 20th January. While MediaTek has not revealed what product it plans to launch, it is likely to be Dimensity 1200 (MT6893).

Now, another chipset from the company has been leaked online, which is dubbed as MediaTek Dimenisty 1100. From the leak, it seems that the Dimensity is just an under-clocked variant of the upcoming Dimensity 1200, and nothing much is changed.

It is being reported that the MediaTek Dimensity 1100 will be manufactured using the 6nm processor and will have four Cortex A78 cores and four Cortex A55 cores in the 1+3+4 architecture. Its clock speed is said to be 2.6GHz and the GPU won’t be overclocked.

EDITOR’S PICK: Chinese giant Huawei delists all Honor products on Vmall as Honor Mall goes live

Additionally, the chipset packs ISP that supports 108MP primary camera sensor, a Full HD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate, LPDDR4x RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. Overall, it seems to be a mid-range offering from the company.

We expect the chipset to be announced later this week along with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC. To know for sure about these chipsets and expected availability in the market, we will have to wait for a couple of days.

In related news, it is being reported that the upcoming Redmi K40 smartphone will have a MediaTek-powered variant along with the Snapdragon 888 version. It remains to be seen which chipset from MediaTek ends up in this upcoming smartphone.
