The Dimensity 7300 and 7200 are popular choices among budget-segment smartphones. At first glance, it appears like the Dimensity 7300 is an upgrade over 7200 and should offer better performance and features, which it should (based on the naming scheme), but that’s not the case here. The Dimensity 7200 puts a better show on the benchmarks. Here’s how the two chips stack up against each other.

In the AnTuTu benchmark comparison, the Dimensity 7200 takes the lead with an overall score of 726,538 — about 4% higher than the Dimensity 7300’s 698,377. This edge primarily comes from its stronger CPU and GPU performance. The 7200’s CPU score is 239,432, which is roughly 19% higher than the 7300’s 201,825, and its GPU score is also about 18% better, making it more capable for gaming and demanding tasks.

However, the Dimensity 7300 pulls ahead in memory performance, scoring 187,384 compared to 126,586 — a 48% improvement. This suggests smoother multitasking and faster app loading. Still, with higher scores in CPU, GPU, and UX, the Dimensity 7200 shows slightly better all-around performance.

Geekbench comparison

In Geekbench tests, the Dimensity 7200 clearly outperforms the Dimensity 7300 in both single-core and multi-core scores. With a single-core score of 1,157, it delivers a 32% performance boost over the 7300’s 875. This means faster app launches, better UI responsiveness, and snappier everyday usage.

The multi-core difference is smaller but still in favor of the 7200, scoring 2,674 compared to the 7300’s 2,561 — about a 4% improvement. Overall, the Dimensity 7200 offers stronger CPU performance, particularly in single-threaded tasks.

Performance

The Dimensity 7300 and 7200 are built using the same TSMC’s 4nm process, but they have different core structures. The Dimensity 7300 features four Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55 cores, whereas the Dimensity 7200 utilizes more powerful Cortex-A715 and Cortex-A510 cores. The latter chip also operates at a higher peak frequency.

The graphic tasks are handled by Mali-G615 MP2 on the Dimensity 7300 and Mali-G610 MP4 on the Dimensity 7200. The latter runs at a higher frequency (1130MHz vs 1047MHz) and features higher pipelines and FLOPS. The MediaTek chips also feature MediaTek HyperEngine for additional gaming enhancements.

Camera

The Dimensity 7300 chip features a 12-bit Imagiq 950 HDR-ISP, supporting up to 200MP camera. Additionally, it offers a range of camera features, including hardware MCNR, 4K video with HDR, and AI-based auto-exposure, auto-focus, and auto-white balance.

On the other hand, the Dimensity 7200 brings a 14-bit premium-grade Imagiq 765 HDR-ISP. It also supports up to 200MP camera, dual simultaneous video capture, and video EIS, similar to the Dimensity 7300, but doesn’t feature AI-based auto exposure. Both chips, however, support up to 4K/30fps video recording.

Connectivity

Both MediaTek chipsets feature integrated 5G modems, although the peak download speeds differ: 3.27Gbps (on the Dimensity 7300) and 4.7Gbps (on the Dimensity 7200). While the peak download speed is lower on Dimensity 7300, it features a newer Bluetooth 5.4 standard (vs 5.3 on Dimensity 7200). Everything else remains unchanged, meaning you get Wi-Fi 6E and the same set of positioning features on both chips.

Display and storage

The Dimensity 7300 supports a higher WFHD+ resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Dimensity 7200 peaks at FullHD+ (144Hz).

There’s no difference in terms of memory and storage — both MediaTek chips support UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR4x/LPDD5 with a maximum frequency of 6400Mbps.

In conclusion, while the Dimensity 7300 appears newer and boasts advantages such as newer Bluetooth and support for higher display resolution, the Dimensity 7200 still comes out on top in overall performance. The Dimensity 7300 offers a few notable upgrades in specific areas, such as connectivity and multitasking, but it doesn’t deliver the performance leap you might expect from a successor. In an unexpected move, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo unveiled the first smartphone in the S17 series – the S17e. The launch has come as a surprise as the brand usually launches the entire S-series together in China. That being said, let’s check out what the new mid-range smartphone has to offer.

Vivo S17e specs

This smartphone is the successor to the S16e and has several similarities with the Vivo V27. The device is equipped with a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz 60° 3D curved AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC, and a 4600mAh battery with support for 66W fast charging.

The Vivo S17e has a rear camera setup consisting of a 64MP primary camera with OIS and a 2MP secondary camera, along with a unique ring LED that the company refers to as the Aura light. The device also features a 16MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

Other notable features of the Vivo S17e include an in-display fingerprint sensor, dual SIM support, USB Type-C audio, stereo speakers, and Hi-Res audio. The device runs on Android 13 with OriginOS 3 and has up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM with 128GB or 256GB UFS2.2 storage.

In terms of connectivity, the Vivo S17e supports 5G SA/NSA, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS (L1 + L5), USB Type-C, and NFC. The device has dimensions of 164.20×74.90×7.4mm and weighs 178g.

Price & availability

Vivo’s S17e smartphone is now available for order and is set to release in China on May 20th. It comes in three different colors – Quick Sand Gold, Sunny Blue, and Midnight Black. The device offers two storage variants: 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB, priced at 2099 yuan ($301) and 2299 yuan ($330), respectively. Additionally, the 12GB+256GB version is available for 2499 yuan ($358).

MediaTek has been expanding its lineup of chipsets, and in line with that, the Taiwan-based company has today announced a new Dimensity series chipset, dubbed MediaTek Dimensity 7200.

The newly announced chipset is a mid-range offering from the company and comes with a focus on gaming and photography, two of the most sought-after features by users.

The MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC is built by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) using the N4P process, which is the same used in the Dimensity 9200 series as an improvement over the Dimensity 9000.

It features two Cortex-A715 cores with a high frequency of 2.8GHz and six Cortex-A510 cores. There’s also Mali G610 MC4 GPU for handling visuals on the device. It supports a Full HD display of up to 144Hz along with HDR10+, CUVA HDR, and Dolby HDR.

There’s MediaTek HyperEngine 5.0, which allows for AI-based Variable Rate Shading and has UFS 3.1 storage for faster loading and RAM running at up to 6,400Mbps (LPDDR5). For optics, the chipset uses a 14-bit HDR ISP with support for 4K HDR video capture and also supports a main camera of up to 200MP and is capable of taking in two video streams of Full HD resolution each.

It also has APU, allowing for a number of AI-powered camera enhancements, such as Real-Time Portrait Beautification. The chipset also supports 5G sub-6GHz with up to 4.7Gbps downlink, along with 2CC Carrier Aggregation, Dual SIM 5G, triband Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3.

MediaTek Dimensity 7200 will be available in smartphones launching in the first quarter of this year, but none of the smartphone brands have announced anything related to this. We will have to wait for a couple of more weeks for an announcement from brands about a smartphone powered by this new processor.
