<p>The Dimensity 9400 is MediaTek’s most powerful smartphone chipset, featuring all big CPU cores. The chipmaker claims a big performance boost over its predecessor, Dimensity 9300, but how good are those claims? We’ll test the Dimensity 9400 on popular benchmark platforms to find out.</p>

<p>The Dimensity chip in question has eight CPU cores, with a peak clock speed of 3.63GHz. For graphics rendering, it comes with a Mali-G925 Immortalis MP12 GPU, which is capable of running resource-intensive games flawlessly. The Dimensity 9400 chip is fabricated using TSMC’s 3nm advanced process for excellent power efficiency. Let’s now look at the AnTuTu, Geekbench, and other benchmark scores.</p>

<p class="has-background" style="background-color:#e8e9ea"><em>[Note: The following benchmark tests have been conducted on the Oppo Find X8 Pro, powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9400.]</em></p>

<h2>MediaTek Dimensity 9400 AnTuTu score</h2>

<p>AnTuTu is a widely used benchmarking tool that measures a device’s CPU, GPU, memory, and user experience (UX) performance through a series of tests. It evaluates processing power, graphics rendering, multitasking efficiency, and overall system responsiveness. The final AnTuTu score represents the overall performance of a device.</p>

<p>On AnTuTu (v10), the Dimensity 9400-powered Oppo Find X8 Pro scored over 2.7 million AnTuTu points. As for the breakdown, the CPU gets 622149 points, the GPU gets 1220751 points, the memory gets 489110 points, and the UX gets 422815 points.</p>

<p>For comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Elite has around 2.9 million AnTuTu score, while Apple’s best A18 Pro has only 1.7 million.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table" style="font-size:13px"><table class="has-background" style="background-color:#e8e9ea"><tbody><tr><td><strong>AnTuTu score</strong></td><td><strong>2,754,825</strong></td></tr><tr><td>CPU</td><td>622,149</td></tr><tr><td>GPU</td><td>1,220,751</td></tr><tr><td>Memory</td><td>489,110</td></tr><tr><td>UX</td><td>422,815</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h2>MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Geekbench score</h2>

<p>Geekbench evaluates CPU performance by running a series of tasks and outputs single-core and multi-core scores. The single-core score reflects the performance of a single CPU core, while the multi-core score measures the performance when all cores work together.</p>

<p>On Geekbench (v6), the Find X8 Pro, powered by Dimensity 9400, scored 2,904 single-core points and 8,812 multi-core points. Similar to AnTuTu, the Geekbench score is also slightly lower than the Snapdragon 8 Elite but higher than the Apple A18 Pro.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table" style="font-size:13px"><table class="has-background" style="background-color:#e8e9ea"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Geekbench 6</strong></td><td></td></tr><tr><td>Single core</td><td>2,904</td></tr><tr><td>Multi core</td><td>8,812</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h2>MediaTek Dimensity 9400 3DMark score</h2>

<p><strong>3DMark WildLife Extreme Stress test</strong></p>

<p>3DMark is a popular gaming benchmarking tool that evaluates the graphics capabilities of devices by rendering a demanding game-like scene.</p>

<p>Although MediaTek has generally trailed behind <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>’s A-series chips and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon lineup in overall performance, the Dimensity 9400 is proving to be a fierce competitor in the GPU arena. The 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU embedded in the Dimensity 9400 chipset showcased both power and efficiency in various GPU tests, surpassing Apple’s A18 Pro GPU in specific metrics.</p>

<h2>Detailed breakdown of Golden Reviewer’s tests</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="738" height="336" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/dimensity-9400-efficiency-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-659584" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/dimensity-9400-efficiency-1.jpg 738w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/dimensity-9400-efficiency-1-300x137.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/dimensity-9400-efficiency-1-696x317.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px" /></figure></div>

<p>The tests examined the Dimensity 9400’s graphics performance against Apple&#8217;s A18 Pro, focusing on 3DMark benchmarks. In the <strong>Solar Bay ray-tracing</strong> test, the Dimensity 9400 scored an impressive 11,817 points while drawing 11.4 watts of power. In comparison, Apple’s A18 Pro recorded a lower score of 8,587 while consuming slightly less power at 11.1 watts. This gives the Dimensity 9400 an approximate 30% efficiency edge over the A18 Pro—a remarkable feat, especially in a competitive landscape dominated by Apple’s GPU prowess.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="589" height="259" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/dimensity-9400-efficiency-2.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-659585" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/dimensity-9400-efficiency-2.jpg 589w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/dimensity-9400-efficiency-2-300x132.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px" /></figure></div>

<p>Other tests yielded similar results. <h3>Redmi K80 Ultra</h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-640896" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Redmi-K70-Ultra_1.mp4_20240724_100138.576.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Redmi K70 Ultra</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Xiaomi is expected to be working on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/24/redmi-k80-to-pack-a-massive-6500mah-battery-and-telephoto-lens/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Redmi K80 series with Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3</a> SoC. This would mark a performance improvement over its predecessor, the Redmi K70 series, that featured the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. However, the series top end Redmi K70 Ultra model packed the Dimensity 9300+ SoC. So it won&#8217;t be surprising if its successor features a new Dimensity flagship chipset. While this is still just speculation at this point, the Redmi K80 Ultra could house the Dimensity 9400 SoC. </p>

<p>We are getting closer to the launch of next-gen Android flagship chips with each passing day. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mediatek/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MediaTek</a> is set to launch its Dimensity 9400 on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/24/mediatek-dimensity-9400-officially-confirmed-to-launch-in-october-9/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">October 9th</a>, while<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/Qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Qualcomm</a> will announce <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/01/should-you-wait-for-snapdragon-8-elite-smartphones/#:~:text=Qualcomm%20has%20confirmed%20that%20its,processor%20designed%20for%20Windows%20laptops." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (or 8 Elite) </a>later this month. </p>

<p>Although these new chips are expected to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/30/snapdragon-8-gen-4-dimensity-9400-price-tipped-20-percent-hike/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">get a price hike</a>, new intel from Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao suggests that this year&#8217;s SoCs (System on Chip) will deliver performance improvements that will surpass the combined gains of the past two generations—a &#8220;generational gap&#8221; that we rarely see. </p>

<h2><strong>Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 / Dimensity 9400 will offer two generations of performance leap</strong></h2>

<p>Every year, we ask ourselves the same question. Is it the best time to upgrade to a flagship? Talking about the same, Han acknowledges that while last year’s flagships were appealing due to more RAM at lower costs, 2024 could be an even better time to make the switch.</p>

<p>He cites two key reasons for this. First is advancements in display technology. He notes that 2024 flagships will have extremely narrow, symmetrical bezels and a “greatly upgraded” form.&nbsp;</p>

<p>More importantly, though, he suggests a major leap in SoC performance. According to Han, who claims to have “17 generations” of products and “12 SoC iterations” experience, the typical SoC performance improves by around 15% from generation to generation, with occasional jumps of 20-25%.</p>

<p>However, he says that this year’s SoCs will deliver a remarkable 40% improvement. Han even claims that this year’s flagship SoCs will create a two-generation leap in performance in one go.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-gen-4-and-MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-expected-price-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 4 and MediaTek Dimensity 9400 expected price" class="wp-image-652885" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-gen-4-and-MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-expected-price-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-gen-4-and-MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-expected-price-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-gen-4-and-MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-expected-price-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-gen-4-and-MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-expected-price-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-gen-4-and-MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-expected-price-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-gen-4-and-MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-expected-price-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-gen-4-and-MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-expected-price.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>He further adds that the gap between sub-flagship and flagship performance will be “deep” (or bigger) in 2024, which is quite “rare in history.”</p>

<p>Since SoCs are central to a phone’s performance, Han believes that the flagship phones launching in October 2024 may have the &#8220;biggest lead in history.”</p>

<p>When a user asked in comments whether the performance leap is for MediaTek or Qualcomm, Han replied “both2024,” suggesting that both the Dimensity 9400 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will have greatly improved performance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Han also briefly addressed the price increase of these chips, calling it the &#8220;largest in history&#8221; for an SoC. However, he explains that this is justified as the performance improvement is also “the largest in history.”</p>

However, the exact release date for the chipset itself is still unknown.</p>

<p>Thanks to a leak from tipster <em><a href="https://weibo.com/6048569942/OwVa31aiO?pagetype=profilefeed" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Digital Chat Station</a></em>, we now have an idea of when the SoC might debut. The tipster shared on Weibo, China’s social media platform, that the Dimensity 9400 will launch on October 9. If this leak is accurate, MediaTek will likely start teasing the launch soon.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="336" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-launch-date-leaks.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-650363" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-launch-date-leaks.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-launch-date-leaks-300x112.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-launch-date-leaks-768x287.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-launch-date-leaks-696x260.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<h2><strong>MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Specs (Rumored)</strong></h2>

<p>MediaTek is expected to use TSMC&#8217;s 3nm N3E node for the first time with the Dimensity 9400. It is rumored to offer up to 30% better energy efficiency compared to the previous generation. That means, improvements in battery life for devices using this chip.</p>

<p>In terms of performance, the Dimensity 9400 will feature an octa-core CPU setup, as revealed by a recent Geekbench AI benchmark listing. The SoC will include one high-performance Cortex-X5 core clocked at 3.63 GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores at 2.80 GHz for extra power, and four Cortex-A725 cores running at 2.10 GHz for everyday tasks.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-IPC-Performance-Leak-1024x536.jpg?x44794" alt="MediaTek Dimensity 9400 IPC Performance Leak" class="wp-image-621878" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-IPC-Performance-Leak-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-IPC-Performance-Leak-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-IPC-Performance-Leak-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-IPC-Performance-Leak-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-IPC-Performance-Leak-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-IPC-Performance-Leak-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-IPC-Performance-Leak.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Compared to the Dimensity 9300, there&#8217;s a clear boost in clock speed, especially with the prime core, which increases from 3.25 GHz to 3.63 GHz.</p>

<p>However, the competition is tough for MediaTek. Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to hit a peak clock speed of 4.32 GHz, while Apple&#8217;s A18 series is expected to reach 4.04 GHz.</p>

<p>As for the GPU, it is believed to be from the Immortalis G9xx series and is expected to deliver 110fps in the GFXBench Aztec Ruins test at 1440p resolution—an 11.1% improvement from the previous generation&#8217;s 99fps.</p>

<p>Here are the possible specs of Dimsnity 9400 against its predecessor:</p>

<p>The rumor mill for upcoming flagship processors continues to churn. Hot on the heels of leaked results for Qualcomm&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/11/oneplus-13-spotted-on-geekbench-with-snapdragon-8-gen-4-outperforming-iphone-16s-apple-a18-chip/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 4</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mediatek/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MediaTek</a>&#8216;s contender, the Dimensity 9400, has made an appearance on Geekbench. </p>

<p>This time, however, it&#8217;s not a traditional CPU test but an AI benchmark score that&#8217;s surfaced on the benchmarking platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The results show the Dimensity 9400 scoring 1,501 points in Single Precision, 1,906 points in Half Precision, and 1,793 points in Quantized tasks. Since Geekbench’s AI benchmark is a new tool, we don&#8217;t have enough data to compare these results against competitors like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="514" height="896" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-Geekbench.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-649879" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-Geekbench.jpg 514w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-Geekbench-172x300.jpg 172w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-Geekbench-241x420.jpg 241w" sizes="(max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px" /></figure></div>

<p>What&#8217;s notable is that the benchmark confirms the octa-core CPU configuration of the Dimensity 9400. The setup is a three-cluster affair, with a single high-performance Cortex-X5 core running at 3.63 GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores at 2.80 GHz for additional power, and four Cortex-A725 cores at 2.10 GHz for handling everyday tasks.</p>

<p>At a glance, the 3.63 GHz peak speed for Dimensity 9400 seems underwhelming compared to the competition. Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 rumors suggest a top clock of 4.32 GHz, and Apple&#8217;s A18 series supposedly reaches 4.04 GHz.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, if we look at previous leaks, the SoC is still claimed to offer 30% performance improvement, 35% better energy efficiency, and a whopping 40% uplift in AI performance. Now is that improvement enough to beat or level the play with Qualcomm and Apple rivals? We must wait to see.  </p>

<p>The wait might not be long now since the first phone with the Dimensity 9400 is expected to launch in early October. It’s the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/09/vivo-x200-series-october-launch/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vivo X200 series </a>that’s rumored to be the first. It will then likely be followed by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo-find-x8/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo Find X8</a> line which also uses the same chip.</p>
