MediaTek has launched its latest Helio G100 chipset, following the debut of the Tecno Camon 30S Pro, the first phone to feature this platform. The new chipset builds on the Helio G99 with several improvements aimed at improving camera capabilities and connectivity.

Specifications and Features

The Helio G100 features an octa-core CPU composed of two 2.2 GHz Cortex-A76 cores and six 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. It uses LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, which is still a popular choice on budget devices. The maximum supported display resolution remains at 2,520 x 1,080 pixels, the same as the Helio G99.

One notable improvement is the Helio G100’s support for 200 MP main cameras, a significant leap from the Helio G99. This makes the new chipset a strong option for devices focusing on high-resolution photography. Additionally, it can handle 16 + 16 MP dual camera setups and 32 MP video capture at 30 frames per second.

Improved Connectivity: The “Elevator Mode”

The Helio G100 introduces the “Elevator Mode,” which aims to quickly restore cellular connection after emerging from areas with no coverage, such as tunnels or elevators. This feature is useful for users who frequently move through areas with intermittent connectivity, ensuring they regain network access faster.

The chipset supports dual 4G SIM cards with both VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and ViLTE (Video over LTE) capabilities, catering to the increasing demand for enhanced voice and video calling quality over LTE networks.

The Helio G99 was popular in mid-range smartphones in LTE markets due to its cost-effectiveness compared to Dimensity chipsets. The Helio G100 maintains this competitive pricing while offering upgraded features, making it an attractive option for manufacturers and consumers.
