Meizu just released its new SD710 powered Meizu 16X model in China today. We were lucky enough to get hands on with the device early on and now, we have our first impressions of the device. The phone has all the bells and whistles that you would expect from an upper mid-ranger and this includes a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack. At the same time, the Meizu 16X doesn’t adopt the trending notch design. It has decided to follow its siblings from the 16th series, featuring a symmetric slim bezel design, which personally, I find to be quite beautiful.

One of the biggest highlights of the Meizu 16X is the presence of an in-screen fingerprint sensor. This is a feature that’s usually reserved for the top-end flagships. In fact, until recently, it wasn’t even mainstream on flagship phones, so its really good to see this tech being incorporated in an upper mid-ranger.

If you look at the specs, which includes the same camera setup as the Meizu 16, a SD710 processor with 6GB of RAM, in-screen fingerprint, and a refreshing symmetric design, the Meizu 16X doesn’t really look like a stripped down version of a flagship model. It can clearly stand on its own as a mid-range device. We even played some heavy games in our Meizu 16X hands on and the phone performed flawlessly without overheating. We also note out some differences between the new model and the flagship 16th series in the video.

Meizu’s non-conforming 16th series with a notch-less design just got a new member, the Meizu 16X. The phone is meant for the younger generation crowd who are looking for up to date features at an affordable price tag. In many ways, the Meizu 16X can be called as the stripped down version of the Meizu 16th, bringing great value for money in the process.

Meizu opts for a different design philosophy than other brands avoiding the notch and giving users a near full screen experience. The design on the Meizu 16X is clearly carried forward from the flagship 16th series and you get the same symmetric and beautiful design on this cheaper model. It’s an all metal body and features a processed smooth finish at the back, ensuring that a cut down in price doesn’t necessarily mean a cheaper experience.

The 16X comes in three color options: Jet Black, Noble Gold, and a special Ru White. The Ru white is said to be inspired by the famous Ruware chinese pottery and will come in a ceramic metal finish. This is why you’ll find U shaped antenna bands on the black and gold versions, but the white version comes in a cleaner finish without any antenna bands visible.

Coming to the specs, the Meizu 16X features the new Snapdragon 710 processor clocked up to 2.2GHz with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and Adreno 616 GPU. The new chipset is powerful as well as power efficient thanks to its new 10nm manufacturing technology. This should ensure that the 16X is superior in performance than the newly released Xiaomi mid-ranger, the Mi 8 Lite with SD660 on board.

Further, the Meizu 16X comes with an AMOLED 6-inch 2160×1080 pixel resolution display featuring 90.62% screen to body ratio. For a mid-range smartphone, this is definitely a big upgrade in the display performance. You also get the new age in-screen fingerprint sensor up front, with 0.25s recognition speed and 99.12% recognition rate. As for the camera, you get the same setup as the flagship 16th series. This includes a powerful 20MP camera up front. The rear camera setup consists of 12MP IMX380+ IMX350 dual cameras with 1.55um large pixels, HDR, OIS and AI. Note that with the new SD710, you also get the upgraded Spectra 250 ISP that will deliver better results than 160 on the SD660. Finally, Meizu’s collaboration with ArcSoft continues for camera algorithms.

The battery isn’t very large, but at 3100mAh, it should be enough to last an entire day with normal usage. Meizu claims that the battery is good enough for 5.8 hours of continuous King of Glory game play.

Meizu 16X Price and Availability:

Meizu 16X starts at 2098 Yuan (~$306) for the 6+64GB and 2398 Yuan for the 6+128GB ($~350) model.

The phone will first be available from Meizu’s official store on September 26 at 10:00 AM. From October 10, you can purchase the device from all major retailers like JD.com, Tmall, and Suning Tesco.

After floating around the rumor mill for a long time, the hotly-anticipated Meizu 16X smartphone was finally confirmed by the company’s chief executive officer Jack Wong. Following its debut during a launch event held in Beijing today, the phone has gone up for pre-order on Giztopb carrying a $399 price tag.

The 16X recently made its appearance on TENAA, giving Meizu fans a brief glimpse of what it has to offer in terms of specifications. As predicted by earlier reports, the phone sports a big 6.0-inch Super AMOLED On-cell display with a screen resolution of 2160×1080 pixels for unparalleled visuals and easy navigation.

The Meizu-branded smartphone packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor and an equally competent ARM Mali-G71 MP20 GPU, under the hood. It offers 6/8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB/128GB of onboard storage.

On the photography front, the Meizu 16X houses a 12MP+20MP dual-camera setup that lets you shoot flawless images with Sony IMX380 Exmor RS. Up front, there’s a 20MP camera for detailed self-portraits and face-to-face video chatting.

Furthermore, the phone runs on Flyme 7.5 operating system based on Android 8.0 Oreo OS to ensure uncompromised productivity even on the go. The phone draws its juices from a robust 3010mAh lithium-ion battery that supports 24W mCharge 4.0 fast charging and delivers up to 24 hours of standby time.

After waiting for so long, finally, Xiaomi is going to launch Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth/Lite, Mi 8 Fingerprint edition, while Meizu is coming to launch the Meizu M16X. Both the firms are coming with their mid-range/high-end devices with some extraordinary features. Well, users can watch the live streams of both the events from China over here. As per the leak on TENAA and some other sources, it is revealed that Mi 8 will carry Snapdragon 660 SOC or Snapdragon 710 with multiple RAM variants. It will feature a a 6.26-inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 resolution with 12 megapixel dual camera on the rear, while there will be  24-megapixels camera on the front. The device will come packed with 3250 mAh battery and Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9.6.

Xiaomi Mi 8 fingerprint edition will come with the Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6/8GB RAM and 64/128/256 GB internal storage variants. It will feature in-screen fingerprint sensor with 6.21 inch super AMOLED display with 1080×2248 Full HD+. It will feature a 12 megapixel dual shooter on the rear and 20 MP selfie camera on the front side.

From past few days, Meizu is posting teasers about the upcoming Meizu 16X almost everyday, teasing some new features. Similarly, today also Meizu took to Weibo to post a new teaser which is showing the device in new white color with the flagship device like build quality.  It seems Meizu is warming up the tech market for the launch of Meizu 16X on September 19th at the Beijing Performing Arts Center.

Last week, in a similar style Meizu teased the launch of Meizu 16X. Additionally, as per numerous leaks it will carry a Snapdragon 710 SoC on board having 6.0 inch of display with the aspect ratio of 18:9. Meizu 16X will come with the 6GB RAM and 128GB of straoge with 3100 mAh battery on board.

In camera, there’s a IMX380+IMX350 dual Sony camera setup with ArcSoft technology as like of the Meizu 16. As per TENAA, it measures 151.2 x 73.6 x 7.5 mm and weights at 154 grams. It has also leaked on ANTUTU where it scored 168,247 points against the overall performance. Despite the ongoing trend, it will not carry a notched display and will have screen size as like of Samsung devices.

Buyers who want to own it can reserve their device from various online and offline stores in China. The pricing is not available yet, but we think it should range between 2000 and 2500 Yuan (~$291-$363) . We have to wait for the launch to confirm the actual pricing, otherwise, let’s wait for a similar kind teaser revealing the price of Meizu 16X.

Meizu is all set to announce another version of the Meizu 16 with some mid-level specs at lower price. Meizu 16X is launching on September 19th, 2:30pm Beijing time (6:30 PM GMT) at an event in the Beijing Performing Arts Center. It is confirmed to come with IMX380+IMX350 dual Sony camera setup having ArcSoft technology pitching for better photo quality. It is the same camera module that is present in the already launched, Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 plus.

Today, Meizu took to Weibo to officially announce some of the specs and launching date of the Meizu 16X. It is the low end version of the Meizu 16, with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC (confirmed by CEO, Jack Wong) onboard coupled with 6GB of RAM, while, the Meizu 16 carries Snapdragon 845 SoC onboard. Currently, it’s not clear, whether the device will come only in 6GB RAM variant or there will be some other variants too. It is also touted as “the best Snapdragon 710 model” by the Huang Zhang, founder of Meizu tech. The new ArcSoft technology in Meizu 16X will improve the image quality under low-light conditions with dual cameras. Further, it will improve the virtual optical zoom and depth-sensing camera capabilities for increased detailing in the images.

Apart from these, Meizu 16X carries fully metallic body with hidden antenna strip on the back along with rear camera and LED flash. Meizu has used the same Meizu 16 display of 6.0 inches with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels having 18:9 aspect ratio. It will have battery with the total capacity of 3100mAh along with the fast charging technique. Meizu 16X will come in three different colors – black, ceramic white and matte gold. Couple of weeks ago, Meizu 16X appeared on AnTuTu benchmarks and TENAA, a certification agency in China, giving us details about its specs.

It is confirmed to launch on September 19, along with the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth edition on same date. The pricing is expected around 2,698 Yuan (~$394) for 6GB variant of Meizu 16X. Well, the confirmed pricing and availability details of the device are not yet available. We hope in the upcoming days, we will get to know about some more details about the Meizu 16X.

Meizu took the centre stage earlier this month when it unveiled its 2018 fllagship which include the Meizu 16 and 16 Plus. The quaity of the smartphones in relation to their price tag has kept followers of the brand spell bound. The company later hinted that it wasn’t done with amazing releases just yet as a midrange model dubbed Meizu 16X is in the works. Meizu’s CEO Jack Wang also revealed on the Meizu Community that the company is working on the Meizu X8. 

Now, Jack Wong has always been a source of details on pre-launch Meizu models. He shared a couple of details of the Meizu 16 before teh device was launched. The CEO has also revealed some details of the upcoming Meizu 16X on the Meizu Community and we have made a compilation of them. One major aspect we picked from his series of comments is that the Meizu 16X and 16 are not very much different in terms of design.

The Meizu 16X is expected to be released in September and it will feature a Snapdragon 710 chipset. Mr Wong in a recent comment on the forum touted the 16X to be the strongest Snapdragon 710 phone. In addition, he shed light on the display screen parameters of the 16X. The CEO revealed that the Meizu 16X will not feature a notch display design and will utilise the same screen as Samsung’s Super AMOLED screen. He noted the difficulty in getting the supply chain to deliver displays without notch as they think that is the future of smartphones. Jack Wong thinks differently and even went on to state that the water drop design used on the OPPO R17 as well as the pop-up design OPPO Find X and Vivo NEX feature are not the future of smartphone designs. The opinion is exclusively his and time will tell if he’s correct or not. But his comment stems from the fact that innovation seems to be giving way to copycat designs in the adoption of the notch that isn’t a popular design among smartphone users.
