A few days ago, Motorola announced the Moto Z4 and this time it is just a mid-ranger. After that, the company said that there will be no Moto Z4 Force, neither a Moto Z4 Play. So goodbye flagship from the Z series, it seems. The only thing left now is to understand if the new Moto Z4 has a high value for money and, in order to let you know, we will compare it with two best-buys of the actual market: the new Meizu 16Xs and the best-selling Redmi Note 7 Pro by Xiaomi’s sub-brand.

Design

Motorola Moto Z4 wins the build quality awards as it comes with the most solid and premium materials. It has a glass back as well as an aluminum frame, and it is splash and dust resistant as proved by the P2i certification, despite it is not waterproof. It even supports MotoMods: you can stick additional modules on its back thanks to the pins on the lower part of the back cover, including a MotoMod which enables the 5G connectivity! While its build quality is simply amazing, we can not say the same about its look. The glass back of Meizu 16Xs and Redmi Note 7 Pro look a lot more attractive, at least according to my tastes. Meizu 16Xs has also a cleaner back because it features an in-display fingerprint reader, that is why it is my favorite one. Which one do you prefer?

Display

While Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro is equipped with a traditional IPS display, Motorola Moto Z4 and Meizu 16Xs come with much better OLED screens. They provide more brilliant colors and deeper blacks, so I prefer them. Meizu 16Xs has an in-display fingerprint reader but it also comes with a smaller screen, while Motorola Moto Z4 has a bigger panel, a waterdrop notch to reduce the upper bezel and an in-display fingerprint reader as well. Given that both are Full HD OLED displays there are only marginal differences when it comes to display quality.

Specs & Software

The chipset is the component which made us go for this comparison. All of these devices are powered by a Snapdragon 675 SoC by Qualcomm which delivers upper-midrange performances similar to the ones offered by the Snapdragon 710 (slightly better CPU but worse GPU, tough). Motorola Moto Z4 comes with a stock Android version based on Android Pie, but it has only 4 GB of RAM, while Meizu 16Xs and Redmi Note 7 Pro are equipped with up to 6 GB of RAM.

Camera

Motorola Moto Z4 has just a single camera on its rear side, but it may give us several surprises and it may be the best camera phone of the trio despite its rivals come with triple cameras. Its rear sensor has a very bright f/1.7 aperture as well as OIS, unlike its rivals. Most of Motorola phones come with very nice cameras, even in the midrange segment. So we have high expectations for the Moto Z4. It even comes with the best front camera on the paper: a 25 MP snapper with an f/2.0 focal aperture. And you can enhance the camera performances with several MotoMods.

Battery

The battery capacity is the weak point of the Moto Z4 as it comes with just 3600 mAh of capacity, but thanks to the battery pack MotoMod, it can provide the longest battery life. However, MotoMods are sold separately, so if we exclude the additional battery pack, Meizu 16Xs and Redmi Note 7 Pro should come with a way longer battery life. Given its OLED display, Meizu 16Xs might last more on a single charge, but it remains to be seen.

Price

Redmi Note 7 Pro costs €200/$223 in its base variant, Meizu 16Xs starts from €220/$246 and Moto Z4 costs €500/$556. The Moto Z4 is definitely the best and most interesting phone, but Meizu 16Xs has the highest value for money with its OLED display, big battery, in-display fingerprint reader and great cameras.

The new Meizu 16Xs comes with yet a near bezel-less display that doesn’t distort the display’s symmetry with a notch, punch-hole or such like. You also won’t have to grapple with a pop-up selfie camera or a slider as the device retains the top bezel just wide enough to house the selfie camera. The ultra-thin bezels give the device a 90.29% screen to body ratio.

The rear design is also similar to the Meizu 16S. However, the device packs a triple rear camera setup, making it the first Meizu phone with such prowess. The third sensor is a wide-angle camera.

The phone uses a USB-C port and equally retains the 3.5mm audio jack as well as dual SIM slots. The phone also comes with Meizu’s mTouch screen fingerprint with 0.2 seconds unlock and support for fingerprint enabled payments for WeChat and Alipay.

The Snapdragon 675-powered phone comes in four official color options; Jade White, Black, and two special colors, Coral Orange, inspired by the Living Coral color, which was selected as Pantone’s Color of the Year 2019, and Atlantis Blue.Check out more pictures of the Meizu 16XS in the gallery below.

The latest one is the Meizu 16Xs, one of the most amazing devices in terms of quality-price ratio sold for less than $250. But this device is not the only one which comes with a very attractive price tag and, if you are looking for a phone in its price range, you currently have a lot of choices. Two of the other top choices are the new Redmi K20 and the toned down version of the Mi 9 known as the Mi 9 SE. These two handsets are among the most wanted midrange ones: does Meizu 16Xs represent an even more valid choice? This comparison will clear your ideas about it.

Design

Until now, Meizu never came up with a device sporting a pop-up camera, but it still opted for notch-less devices in the high-end segment. Meizu 16Xs follows the same bandwagon: it does not have a notch, but you should not worry so much about bezels as it still comes with a very high screen-to-body ratio. But Meizu 16Xs is not the one I love. In my personal opinion, the best one is definitely Redmi K20 with its liquid finish on the rear side and its innovative pop-up camera. Xiaomi Mi 9 SE comes with a traditional waterdrop design, so it is nothing impressive compared with its opponents. But it is the most compact device of the trio.

Display

Thanks to the HDR technology and their great Super AMOLED panels, Xiaomi Mi 9 SE and Redmi K20 should be the devices which should bring the highest display quality, thanks to very accurate colors. Unfortunately, they are way inferior to flagship displays, but they still provide very nice performances. Meizu 16Xs should be less accurate when it comes to color reproduction, but it still comes with a premium screen. In each case, you get a fast in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

If speed is your priority, go for the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE without thinking twice. It is powered by a better processor: the Snapdragon 730 that can be defined as an important upgrade of the Snapdragon 710. And it is paired with 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. It has a better GPU as well as a better CPU than both the Snapdragon 675 and the Snapdragon 712 found on the Meizu 16Xs and the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE. As you could imagine, the second place goes to the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, but it is inferior to the Redmi K20 for both its lower-end processor and memory configurations. Android 9 Pie is installed out of the box.

Camera

Besides its amazing hardware side, the Redmi K20 also delivers the best camera department. Its rear setup is composed of a 48 MP main sensor, a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and a 13 MP ultrawide lens. It is able to record 4K videos at 30 fps and 1080p super slow motion videos at 960 fps. Further, it even has a pretty nice 20 MP selfie camera. Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is almost at the same level and you will hardly notice the differences in photo quality, while Meizu 16Xs should be noticeably inferior. However, we still did not test this one, so you have to wait for our final verdict if you want a definitive opinion.

Battery

The weakest point of the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is the battery: just 3070 mAh for a 2019 high-end device is disappointing. That is not the same with the Redmi K20 and Meizu 16Xs as both come with a great 4000 mAh battery which lasts a full day.

Price

Meizu 16Xs starts from €220/$245, Redmi K20 carries a €260/$290 price tag, and Xiaomi Mi 9 SE starts from €300/$335. The winner of the comparison is the Redmi K20 due to its bigger battery, awesome cameras, and perfect hardware department.

Meizu 16XS Design

The Meizu 16XS carries the same design language as its elder siblings. So, the new mid-ranger has a symmetric design with super thin bezels on the sides. The company continues to defy the notch trend by incorporating the front camera on the thin top bezel.

Meizu 16XS Atlantis Blue

The back features a similar design as the 16S, however, there’s an additional third wide-angle camera on board. This makes it the first Meizu smartphone with three cameras at the back! There are four official color options available, Jade White, Black, and two special colors, Coral Orange, inspired by the Living Coral color, which was selected as Pantone’s Color of the Year 2019, and Atlantis Blue.

Meizu 16XS Hardware

Coming to the hardware, the Meizu 16XS comes with the mid-range Snapdragon 675 processor clocked at 2.0GHz. There will be 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM on board with 64GB / 128GB storage options, just like last year’s Meizu 16X. The screen is a custom 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display which was reportedly developed with an investment of $3 million. it features 103% NTSC color gamut, 90.29% screen to body ratio, German VDE certified hardware level blue light filter, and ultra-narrow bezels on all the four sides.

Meizu has also updated its OneMind AI 3.0. The company claims that the phone won’t lag even with 669 apps installed and can host up to 20 apps in the background without having to kill it. There’s a HyperGaming mode as well to ensure you have distraction-free gaming experience. The 16XS also gets the new FlyMe 7.3 based on Android Pie, which will be the last major version in the 7 series. Meizu will reveal more details about the new FlyMe 8 in the coming months.

One of the highlights of the device is its large 4000mAh battery, supported by 18W fast mCharge. It’s also one of the lightest 4000mAh smartphones around, weighing just 165 grams and measuring 8.3mm in thickness. This could be a really good selling point for the phone.

The Meizu 16Xs will be the first triple camera phone from the Chinese phone maker. The primary sensor is a 48MP f/1.7 camera with 6P custom lens. It is paired with 5MP f/1.9 and 8MP f/2.2 cameras. One of the secondary cameras is a 118.8° Super Wide angle camera for taking ultra-wide-angle photos. Other listed camera modes are Portrait mode and Super Night Scene mode.

[envira-gallery id=”256132″]

The Meizu 16Xs will not have a notch nor a pop-up selfie camera like a lot of its competitors. Instead, it will fit a 16MP f/2.2 camera in a pretty slim bezel. The camera has a 5P custom lens, HDR+, an AI beauty mode, portrait mode, and support for face unlock.

Under the plastic body of the Meizu 16Xs is a 4000mAh battery. Meizu has been able to keep the weight of the phone at 165 grams, making it lighter than a lot of its rivals. The phone measures 152 x 74.4 x 8.3 millimeters and will come in three color variants – Knight Black, Atlantis, Coral Orange, and Ice Silk White.

A render of the orange variant surfaced on the web today. Seeing as the phone is supposed to be covered in plastic, the material appears to be glass.

Sadly, the leak doesn’t include the price for the new phone. But with the launch less than 24 hours away, that isn’t a long wait.

The pictures were posted on Weibo by a Meizu engineer and show a standard photo and an ultra-wide angle photo of the same location. The Meizu 16Xs will be the manufacturer’s first triple camera phone.

The ultra-wide angle photo is getting a lot of praise for practically having no barrel distortion. Barrel distortion is an aberration common to ultra-wide angle lens and what it does is curve straight lines inwards. This happens when the field of view of the lens is wider than the size of the sensor. The camera tries to compensate by bending straight lines to fit in. The effect is usually corrected by post-processing software and it seems the Meizu 16Xs does a very good job in doing that.

As it can be seen in the below image, the Meizu 16Xs has scored around 23XX in the single-core tests and around 59XX in the multi-core tests. Unfortunately, none of the listings clearly reveal the name of the processor that powers the smartphone. The unidentified SoC of the Meizu 16Xs is assisted by 6 GB of RAM. The handset runs on Android 9 Pie OS.

The TENAA listing of the Meizu 16Xs states that it is powered by an octa-core processor that works at 2.0 GHz. The Geekbench appearance of the phone has revealed that its processor has a base frequency of 1.71 GHz. The Snapdragon 675 chipset includes two Kryo 460 Gold CPU cores working at 2.0 GHz and six Kryo 460 Silver CPU cores clocking at 1.71 GHz. Hence, there is a possibility that the Meizu 16Xs could be powered by the SD675.

The Meizu 16Xs will be arriving with a notch-less display of 6.2 inches. The AMOLED screen will offer full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2232 pixels and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The display of the phone will be embedded with an in-screen fingerprint reader. The handset will be backed by a 4,000mAh battery.

For photography, the Meizu 16Xs will be featuring 48-megapixel + 5-megapiel + 8-megapixel triple camera setup and a front camera of 16-megapixel. The Android 9 Pie OS flavored with the latest version of Flyme UI will come loaded on the device. It will have an internal storage of 64 GB. Today’s teaser is about the device’s camera, but it doesn’t actually tease what the device actually has. Instead, it poses a question. Will the Meizu 16Xs have a 48MP camera like the Redmi Note 7S, or a triple camera setup like the OnePlus 7 Pro?

Both of these options are in vogue at the moment, with most companies going one way or the other. From the leaked specs however, we already know that device actually features both setups. The rear camera setup is a 48MP + 5MP + 8MP triple camera system, basically combining the two into one setup.

Interestingly, this would mean Meizu wants the 16Xs to go head to head with the Redmi Note 7s. Everything from the large 4000mAh battery to the 48MP + triple rear camera setup are all intended to show up the hot selling Redmi Note 7 series. So far, Meizu’s got a pretty decent showing, though we’ll have to wait until the 30th to hand out a verdict.

Its TENAA images have revealed that it will be the first Meizu phone to arrive with triple rear cameras. Rumors have claimed that the phone will go official with Meizu 16Xs moniker. Today, the Chinese firm has not only confirmed the name of the device, but also revealed it will be made official on May 30. The smartphone will be arriving as the successor of the Meizu 16X mid-range phone from last year.

The launch poster of the Meizu 16Xs reads “165g of Balance” which seems to be talking something about the weight of the device. Yesterday, a Chinese tipster had claimed that the main selling feature of the Meizu 16Xs will be that it will be packing a large battery of 4,000mAh battery inside a chassis that weighs only 162 grams. According to TENAA, the dimensions of the phone are 152 x 74.4 x 8.35 grams and it weighs 162 grams.

There are many smartphones from mid-range to flagship models that comes with 4,000mAh battery in the market. These phones weigh around 180 grams. It appears that Meizu has somehow managed to include a big battery inside the Meizu 16Xs and still reduce its weight by couple of grams. The Chinese firm may possibly reveal how it managed to do so through May 30 launch event of the Meizu 16Xs phone.
