Meizu has a few phones in the pipeline which are going to be unveiled in September. The company released the Meizu M3E mid-ranger earlier this month and looks like there could be a special edition of the model in the works. A few pictures of the Meizu M3E Star Trek Edition were leaked on Weibo earlier today, revealing the existence of this edition.

We can see that the basic design is going to be the same as the M3E, however, there’s the Star Trek logo at the back, indicating that this is a special edition. Further, the other two pictures show that the theme and icons in this M3E Star Trek Edition would also be customized.

It’s not new for companies to release special edition models of their popular smartphones, but it’s usually the top-end models that get such a special treatment. So, it’s surprising to see that Meizu chose the M3E for such a customized version. We have already seen special editions like the OPPO R9 Barcelona Edition, Galaxy Note 7 Edge Injustice Edition and they turned out to be quite popular among fans. So, releasing Meizu M3E Star Trek Edition may not be such a bad idea.

It’s worth noting that although many of us must have already seen the new Star Trek Beyond movie, it will release in China only on September 1. So, the timing could be just perfect for this version’s launch.

Meizu launched a new mid-range phone, the Meizu M3E last week. If you are looking for a new phone or own the Roewe RX5, you should probably check it out as long as you are comfortable with a phone that runs YunOS.

The M3E features a metal unibody design with nano injection molding process and anodic oxidization which gives it a very premium look. But no matter how beautiful a phone might be, that doesn’t mean it gets a free pass and escapes the touch of a screwdriver. Teardown Steps

First thing you should do to start the M3E teardown is remove the SIM tray. Proceed to remove the two torx screws at the bottom of the phone. Using a rubber suction cup (placed at the lower part of the screen), gently pry open the phone to remove the rear frame from the rest of the phone. Try not to apply too much force and it will come off. The rear case houses the volume rocker rocker and power buttons and the point of contact with the motherboard. You can set aside the rear plate and move to the other part.

Proceed to remove the screws (3 in total) on the metal plate. You should also remove the screws holding the plastic surface board which is used to protect the camera modules from shocks. Remove all the screws holding the motherboard and screen together. The motherboard should come off now.

There are six additional screws at the base which hold a small plate covering the speaker module and mBack button. All the components such as the camera module, mBack button, and speaker module can be removed easily now.

If you peel off the copper foil covering the motherboard, you should see the Mediatek processor, Texas Instruments fast charge chip and memory (RAM and ROM).

Meizu is set for something new in September based on an image posted on Weibo. The image which has the words ”Pro than Pro” and another set of words in chinese which loosely translates to ”True Flagship on Your Fingertips” hints at a new phone. A new Pro phone actually.

If you remember, part of the rumours and speculations for Meizu’s ”E” device was for a phone sporting Samsung’s high end chipset, the Exynos 8890 but what we got was another mid-range phone, the Meizu M3E with a Helio P10 processor. This might just be the device. The true Meizu flagship that can compete with other flagships.

The date on the poster says 3rd of September, which is quite strange based on the fact that it falls on a Saturday. No manufacturer (to the best of my knowledge though) launches a device on a weekend.

Meizu’s newest phone is the Meizu M3E which was launched a few hours ago. Apart from the nice specifications and price, one unique feature of the M3E is its car remote feature, which is putting it in the simplest form.

Just before we dive in, it is important to mention that the phone can only be used with just a particular car at the moment, the Roewe RX5, which is jointly made by Chinese state-owned SAIC, and Alibaba. It is a compact SUV car featuring Alibaba’s specially developed software, YunOS for Car and is marketed as the first mass-produced internet car.

The Meizu M3E acts as a sort of smart key for the Roewe RX5, carrying out functions such as locking and unlocking of doors, heating the seats, and displaying real-time vehicle information.

So if you own the RX5 and the Meizu M3E, you should be able to monitor things like oil level (probably fuel level too), plot navigation routes, heat the car seats before getting in and basic unlock features.

We hope more features will be announced soon or added in form of updates. However, if you don’t own the RX5 that doesn’t mean you should rule out buying the Meizu M3E. It is a pretty solid phone with a nice price point.
