Chinese Spring Festival is drawing closer and as a result, many smartphone manufacturers have kickstarted their promotional sales during which period there is usually a huge reduction in prices. Meizu has joined the fray today, as the company has announced its New Year deals with a  reduction of up to 300 yuan and even 400 yuan in some cases, applicable to some of its smartphones.

From the announcement, Meizu smartphones which fall among the price reduction include; the Meizu MX6 which got a 200 yuan slash in its price, coming down to 1599 Yuan. The Meizu U10 also got 200 yuan off its price and is now available for just 799 yuan. The Meizu U20 wasn’t left out as it too got 200 yuan off its official price tag and is now up for grab for 899 yuan. The Meizu Metal which was released in 2015 also got a 300-yuan slash in its price, bringing down the price to 699 yuan.

In addition, the highest reduction in price was slammed on the Meizu Metal Gift Box version which had a 400 yuan reduction in its price. The device is also available now for 699 yuan. Considering the designs and initial rice tag of these smartphones, we’d say it is a fair and attractive reduction which should get many buyers interested.

Sales are currently on going and already some color variants of the Meizu smartphones on offer are out of stock.

Meizu has confirmed that it has a new conference in China on June 13, wherein it will release a new Blue Charm device. Given that we have already seen two new handsets in the Blue Charm range back in April, this could be the metal variant of the Meizu M3 Note. The company had released the Meizu Metal smartphone last year and on June 13, we could possibly see the successor to the device.

Another good reason why it is possibly the Meizu M3 Metal is because, the phone has already passed TENAA certification and hence, it is only a matter of time till it’s released officially. We could also expect to see some new network variants of the M3 and maybe an Android version of the budget Meizu M3 instead of YunOS. But Meizu M3 Metal should be the star of the conference.

According to the TENAA certification, the Meizu M3 Metal will come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display with 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 32GB memory variants. The storage is expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD. Inside, the phone comes with an octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz which should be the Helio P10. At the back, you get a 13MP camera while up front, there is a 5MP shooter. Other features include Android 5.1 OS and 4000mAh battery. Like the name suggests, this will be a metal bodied smartphone.

Meizu announced the Meizu Metal budget smartphone on October 21 for an aggressive price tag of 1099 Yuan ($180). This was an extremely competitive price tag considering other rivals in the market offer much less for a more. However, this pricing is close enough to the flagship MX5’s price tag, which makes us wonder whether Meizu Metal will eat up the sales of its elder brother, the Meizu MX5.

Meizu Metal and MX5 are quite similar to each other, yet they have like $110 price difference between them. So, today we take a look at the differences to see whether customers will be ready to pay up this difference to go for the MX5.

First of all, looks wise, there’s not much difference. Both feature a metal CNC body with a relatively similar design. MX5 features a magnesium alloy body while the Metal comes with a magnesium-aluminum body made with rare metals like titanium. The company is calling  this new material as ‘Crystal Metal’. But end of the day, different people like different looks, so we leave it up to you to decide which ones better.

As for the specs, both come with the Helio X10 MT6795 octa-core chip. However, MX5 features the MT6795T model which is clocked as 2.2GHz as compared to the MT6795M on the Metal. Also, 3GB RAM on the MX5 should offer better multi-tasking than the 2GB RAM found on the Metal. So, performance wise, there will be a noticeable difference between the two models.

Even in the display department, the Meizu MX5 triumphs since it comes with a superior AMOLED 5.5-inch FHD display as compared to the plain 5.5-inch FHD LCD 2.5D glass panel on the Metal. In the camera department, the MX5 comes with a much better 20.7MP shooter as compared to the 13MP sensor on the Metal. However, the MX5 has one major drawback, you don’t get a MicroSD card slot on the device. On the other hand, the Metal can boast of this slot which definitely gives the phone an advantage in the storage area.

The battery is almost the same on both the devices (3150mAh vs 3140mAh) but the former (MX5) features fast charge which is definitely a plus point. And if you like using your phone as a remote, there’s an IR port on the MX5 as well.

As you can see, despite the close pricing, the MX5 does offer a lot more than the Meizu Metal. You get a better display, superior camera, fast charge and larger RAM module. The lack of the SD card slot is the only drawback as compared to the Metal, but to solve that you can always go for the 32GB variant.

So, judging from this comparison, we don’t think the Metal will eat up the sales of the MX5 to a great extent. Of course, those who are happy with slightly lower specs will settle for the Metal, but others, who want a superior smartphone experience, will still stick with the MX5 flagship.

We have been hearing a lot about the Meizu Metal for the past couple of weeks. Now the company has finally made the device official and its everything we expected it to be. The phone comes in a beautiful metal body with plenty of color options to attract the young generation crowd.

Meizu Metal features a special aluminum body which is made using a number of rare elements like titanium, and cobalt to make it light weight and durable at the same time. The company is calling it the “Crystal Metal”. The phone looks pretty premium and comes in a bunch of colors such as white, grey, gold, blue, pink. The body has gone through diamond cutting for the perfect finishing.

As for the specs, the Meizu Metal comes with a 5.5-inch FHD 1080p display with 2.5D glass front, strengthened T2X Electric Glass and maximum brightness of 450 nits. Under the hood, there’s the 2GHz Mediatek Helio X10 MT6795 processor with 2GB RAM and eMMC 5.0 16 GB/ 32 GB memory options. It also supports MicroSD cards upto 128GB. With these specs, the phone reportedly scores over 51,000 on AnTuTu.
As for the camera, there’s a 13MP shooter at the back with PDAF focus (0.2 seconds), f/2.2 aperture, color temperature flash and gorilla glass protection. Front features a 5MP shooter. Finally, the phone features the same fingerprint sensor as the MX5 MTouch 2.1 with recognition speed of just 0.48 seconds. It comes with dual card dual standby with Flyme 5.0 based on YunOS pre-installed. There’s a pure Flyme based on Android version as well. The battery is also quite decent at 3140 mAh capacity.
Now coming to the best part, the Meizu Metal will start at just 1099 Yuan ($173) for the 16GB model, which is a great price for a phone with these specs. Further, the 32GB version will retail for 1299 Yuan which is around $200. Pretty aggressive pricing I would say. What do you think?

We have been hearing and also seeing a lot of Meizu Metal in the past couple of weeks. The phone is all set to debut tomorrow, i.e. October 21 and will run on Alibaba’s Ali YunOS based on Android platform. The phone is said to be quite a looker, thanks to its all metal design (with magnesium alloy body) and metallic color scheme. The specs are also quite impressive for the price segment that it is targeted.

The latest leak about the Meizu Metal smartphone has revealed the pricing of the device. While previous rumors said that the phone could be priced below 1000 Yuan ($157), a leaked image reveals that the pricing could be set at 1299 Yuan for the 16GB model. That comes to around $200, which is quite aggressive.

While the company is yet to confirm the official price tag of the device, Meizu VP, Li Nan had earlier hinted that the pricing would be between 1000 Yuan and 1500 Yuan. So, its quite likely that the starting price of the 16GB model could be 1299 Yuan. Moreover, the specifications are also quite impressive to make sure that the phone gives tough competition to the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.

According to the TENAA listing, the Meizu Metal smartphone will come with a 2GHz octa-core chip, the MT6795 Helio X10. There will be 2GB of RAM on board along with 16GB of storage. The front features a 2.5D glass 5.5-inch FHD display with a 5MP camera on top. As for the back, you can expect a 13MP shooter with PDAF. Like the recent Meizu smartphones, the Meizu Metal too is expected to come with the mBack home button with different gestures available along with fingerprint sensor incorporated into the device. Finally, the phone will run on Ali YunOS instead of Meizu’s Flyme UI.

Overall, the device does capture our attention with good specs and a refreshing metal design. Moreover, the phone will come in six different color options like blue, grey, white, pink and gold. Now, we just have to wait for its official release on October 21.
