Initially, the company went head-on with Xiaomi and its smartphones but soon, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/06/24/xiaomi-officially-announces-hong-kong-ipo-lei-jun-awarded-stock-worth-about-1-5-billion/">recently listed company</a> picked up pace, fueled by its global expansion. On the other hand, Meizu is still struggling to do well in China. Internationally, things are even worse. While I didn&#8217;t want to start the article painting a bad picture for Meizu, this is reality right now. But we shouldn’t write them off yet. They have a lot of fighting spirit and their smartphones in recent times have shown promise. What I like about the company is that they usually have a unique take to their products and often resist following the norm. And that’s what makes them special.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Today, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/meizu"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meizu</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> has turned 16. It’s been a long journey for them so far, founded and steered by Jack Wong since 2003. In the past 16 years, they have achieved a lot of milestones. So, let’s take a quick look at some of the most important moments for the company so far. </span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meizu was founded by Jack Wong on March 14, 2003. The company started off as a MP3 manufacturer since Mr. Wong had previous experience in this industry.</span><img class="aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Meizu-office.jpg?x44794" /></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meizu is headquartered in Zhuhai, a beautiful city known for its golf resorts and theme parks. This is unlike other tech companies who are usually based out of industrial cities like Shenzhen (OnePlus, Huawei, ZTE) or Dongguan (OPPO, Vivo) or even Beijing (Xiaomi, Smartisan).</span>
<figure style="width: 1300px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" src="http://subsites.chinadaily.com.cn/zhuhai/en/img/attachement/jpg/site48/20180919/1537326207058.jpg" alt="Zhuhai" width="1300" height="820" /><figcaption class="wp-caption-text">Zhuhai (source: Chinadaily.com.cn)</figcaption></figure></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meizu’s MP3 Players quickly became popular. The company made its name from its M series, which quickly rose to fame. This was followed by the popularity of its M6 Mini MP4 player. Turns out, we have a very old article about Meizu’s MP3 player journey, you </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2012/12/03/brief-history-of-meizu-company-from-mp2-player-to-smartphone/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">can check it out here</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span><img class="aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Meizu-05.jpg?x44794" /></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">While it’s unverified, it’s said that Meizu had made 30 MP3 Players in total but decided only to release 10 players in the market. The rest were scrapped because Jack Wong didn’t think they were good enough.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">After their tremendous success in making MP3 and MP4 players, Meizu released their first touchscreen smartphone, M8 in 2008. The phone was similar to the iPhone and turned out to be successful leading to long queues in front of its stores. Note that the phone was running Windows CE.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meizu’s first Android smartphone came in 2011, under the Meizu M9 brand name. This was another phone which was quite popular, with people </span><a href="https://www.engadget.com/2011/01/01/meizus-m9-launch-amasses-thousands-of-jack-wong-fans-across-chi/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">lining up overnight </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">outside its stores just to get hold of a unit.</span><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter" src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4b/Meizu_M9.png/800px-Meizu_M9.png" width="304" height="576" /></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">In 2012, Meizu announced the first model in their new MX series, called Meizu MX. The phone came with a quad-core processor with the company’s own Flyme OS skin on top. </span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the same year, Flyme 1.0 was released, the company’s own take at Android skins. You can read more about the </span><a href="http://forum.flymeos.com/thread-217-1-1.html"><span style="font-weight: 400;">evolution of Flyme OS here</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">In 2013, Meizu released the World’s first 128GB ROM smartphone, the Meizu MX3.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">In March 2015, Meizu partnered with Canonical to release the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu edition. There was another Ubuntu edition model released, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/02/15/meizu-pro-5-ubuntu-edition-showcased-mwc-2016/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, in 2016. </span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the same year, (2015) Meizu unveiled its innovative mBack physical button. One button replaced all other capacitive buttons for navigation. It was indeed an innovative solution for UI navigation.</span><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Image-uploaded-from-iOS.jpg?x44794" alt="Image result for meizu back button gizmochina" width="803" height="602" /></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">In 2018, Meizu released</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/08/08/meizu-16-hands-on-beauty-is-in-symmetry/"><span style="font-weight: 400;"> the Meizu 16th series</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, a lineup of high-end smartphones. The phone was popular for its design which didn’t adopt the trending notch design. </span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The company’s most recent</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/06/meizu-note-9-with-snapdragon-675-and-48-megapixel-dual-camera-goes-official-for-1398-yuan-238/"><span style="font-weight: 400;"> launch is the Meizu Note 9</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. The phone was announced earlier this month and comes with a 48MP camera. Oh yes, the phone has a waterdrop notch.</span><img class="aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/meizu-note-9.jpg?x44794" alt="Image result for meizu note 9 gizmochina" /></li>
</ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As you can see, Meizu has a lot more to boast about in the first half of its existence than its second. The company has been trying out a few things in the past few years, but things haven’t really worked out well. For example, there was this beautiful Meizu Gravity speakers which had a floating design but got a lot of bad press for failing to ship to its Indiegogo backers. The </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/08/08/meizu-gravity-speaker-finally-launches-for-%C2%A5999-146/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">company made it available nearly two years later</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Further, the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/01/23/meizu-zero-holeless-phone-with-18w-wireless-charging-announced-with-key-specifications/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meizu Zero</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, a completely port-less, hole-less smartphone concept turned out to be a marketing failure. The phone was being showcased at MWC, but hardly got any press. Well, the phone did look and feel beautiful but it was</span><a href="https://mashable.com/article/meizu-zero-hole-less-phone-ignored-mwc-2019/#L6lZ2iOjaZqf"><span style="font-weight: 400;"> basically overshadowed</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> by all the big launches out there. Not to mention that their </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/06/meizu-ceo-responds-meizu-zero-failure/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">crowdfunding campaign failed to get enough</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> backers. </span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meizu’s recent smartphones are still pretty good. However, the company doesn’t really know how to market and promote its smartphones. This has been a very big issue for the company over the past few years, especially when companies like OPPO, Vivo, Huawei, and even Xiaomi have mastered the art of promoting their smartphones. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With the entry of OPPO and Vivo in the value for money segment, things are further going to be harder for Meizu. It will definitely be a tough road for the company from here on but I hope the company learns from its mistakes and continues to make good quality smartphones for its fans. </span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Meizu-16th-birthday.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-241136" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Meizu-16th-birthday.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu 16th birthday" width="690" height="388" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Meizu-16th-birthday.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Meizu-16th-birthday-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Happy 16th Birthday, Meizu. </span></p>

After a dull 2017, the company seems to have done their homework this time, bringing a solid contender in the $150 price segment, directly taking on the current champion, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-5-plus/">Redmi 5 Plus.</a> So, it was very important that we got our Meizu M6S hands on as soon as possible to see if it lives up to our expectations.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-11.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168322" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-11.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu M6s hands on (11)" width="1282" height="853" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-11.jpg 1282w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-11-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-11-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-11-1024x681.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1282px) 100vw, 1282px" /></a></p>
<p>The phone borrows a lot of design elements from the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-pro-6/">Meizu Pro 6</a>, including nano injected U shaped antenna lines in a solid metal body. Also, with this phone, Meizu is joining the 18:9 club, featuring a 5.7-inch HD+ display on the front. This reduces the bezels on all the sides, making it similar to the Redmi 5 Plus and other 18:9 phones in the market. The back has a smooth finish with the camera sensor and flash placed at the center for a perfect symmetry. The logo lies below them, and given that our unit is from the first batch of M6S, we got the mblu branding at the back. After the initial batch is sold out, new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/18/meizu-m6s-mblu-branding-first-batch/">M6S units will feature just the Meizu branding at the back</a>.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-10.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168321" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-10.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu M6s hands on (10)" width="1282" height="853" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-10.jpg 1282w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-10-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-10-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-10-1024x681.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1282px) 100vw, 1282px" /></a></p>
<p>Coming back to the front, we definitely have to talk about the Halo button on the screen. It&#8217;s called as Super mBack, an updated version of the popular mBack button, but this time around, it&#8217;s a virtual button instead of a physical one that&#8217;s seen on other Meizu devices. But it&#8217;s not your typical onscreen button as it features a pressure sensitive chip as well as a linear vibration motor below it to ensure smooth navigation. So, the halo button basically acts as the mBack button, in the virtual form.</p>

<p>You can touch for going back, press for getting to the home screen, swipe for multitasking and do a lot more with this one button. Check out this <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/17/heres-meizu-super-mback-halo-button-works-video/">article for more details on how this Halo button works</a>. However, if you are not used to Meizu&#8217;s mBack, it might take some time for you to get used to the gestures. Of course, if you want stock Android buttons, you can use them as well. Also, Meizu&#8217;s VP has confirmed that you will be getting an option to hide this halo button in the February 5 update, which opens up a bit more screen real estate.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-4.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168315" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-4.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu M6s hands on (4)" width="1282" height="853" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-4.jpg 1282w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-4-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Meizu-M6s-hands-on-4-1024x681.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1282px) 100vw, 1282px" /></a></p>
<p>Another interesting aspect of the Meizu M6S is its side mounted fingerprint sensor. Often companies shift fingerprint sensors to the back in an 18:9 display phone, but in this case, Meizu thought that wasn&#8217;t the optimal solution. Hence, the fingerprint sensor goes to the right side of the phone, below the power button. The placement is good, as you can instantly access the sensor to unlock the phone. The sensor is quick to recognise your registered fingerprint, and it&#8217;s as fast as other phones. Also, note that you almost never use the power button as the phone instantly wakes up as soon as your fingerprint is recognised.</p>

<p>The 3.5mm headphone jack, MicroUSB port, and speakers are located at the bottom. The volume buttons and the SIM card slots are placed on the left side of the phone.</p>

<p>Overall, I like the built quality and finish of the Meizu M6S. The camera is quite okay so far, but I haven&#8217;t tested it out yet. It may not be as good as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-note-6/">M6 Note</a>, but we&#8217;ll be adding camera samples and its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/17/meizu-m6s-vs-redmi-5-plus-specs-comparison/">comparison with the Redmi 5 Plus very soon</a>. So stay tuned!</p>

From its first ever smartphone, the Meizu M8 to the latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-pro-7/">Meizu Pro 7</a>, the company has shown tremendous promise with its devices. In fact, the new Pro 7 is one of a kind smartphone featuring a small second screen at the back to enhance user experience. Even the company’s mBack button is often praised for its innovative gestures.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/meizu-pro-7-hero.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-144818" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/meizu-pro-7-hero.jpg?x44794" alt="meizu pro 7 hero" width="1280" height="640" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/meizu-pro-7-hero.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/meizu-pro-7-hero-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/meizu-pro-7-hero-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/meizu-pro-7-hero-1024x512.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p dir="ltr">Thanks to these features, Meizu has always been able to go head to head with the big players in the market including its closest rival, Xiaomi. In fact, up until early 2016, if a customer was looking to buy a value for money mid-ranger in China, it often would come down to a Xiaomi or Meizu smartphone. However, with a variety of options from brands like Honor, OPPO, and Vivo flooding the streets, things aren’t the same as before. These smartphones may not be as cheap as the ones from the online focused Xiaomi and Meizu, but their marketing and promotions have given them an edge over sheer specifications.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/OPPO-Vivo-Hoardings-China.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-144814" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/OPPO-Vivo-Hoardings-China.jpg?x44794" alt="OPPO Vivo Hoardings China" width="1000" height="750" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/OPPO-Vivo-Hoardings-China.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/OPPO-Vivo-Hoardings-China-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/OPPO-Vivo-Hoardings-China-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/OPPO-Vivo-Hoardings-China-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></a></p>
<p>OPPO and Vivo have changed the way we look at how companies market their phones. Their strategy to take full advantage of offline channels in China has clearly made an impact on the remaining brands, with companies like Xiaomi, who initially focused only on online channels, have now aggressively shifted its focus onto offline stores as well.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Xiaomi’s shift in strategy seems to be bearing fruit, with its sales going up in the recent quarter. The company has already roped in a few celebrities to promote its products and significant efforts are being made to expand the total number of Mi stores in China as well as abroad. In fact, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has revealed that the company plans to launch<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/09/28/xiaomi-going-offline-targets-1000-retail-stores-2020/"> as much as 1000 Mi Stores by 2020</a>. This clearly shows Xiaomi has realized the importance of brick and mortar stores.</p>
<p dir="ltr">But what about Meizu? Once considered as a direct rival to Xiaomi, the gap between these two companies seems to have increased in recent times. In terms of YoY sales, Meizu is still doing well. After having shipped 20 million smartphones in 2015, the company managed to beat this figure by an additional 2 million in 2016. That’s a healthy growth in a market that’s slowed down in the past couple of years. However, it’s not as good as it could have been, as Meizu was expected to ship over 25 million smartphones last year.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Things are looking slow for Meizu in 2017, with limited smartphone launches and issues such as internal layoffs. There have been just six smartphone launches this year, including the two new Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus models. In comparison, the company had released 15 models back in 2016. We aren’t seeing many promotions or celebrity endorsements for the company either. So, overall, it has been a quiet year for the company so far.</p>
<h2></h2>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><strong>What Happened to Meizu in the Past Few Months?</strong></h2>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p dir="ltr">Meizu went on a hiring spree in 2016, increasing its <a href="http://tech.ifeng.com/a/20170327/44562823_0.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">total employee count to nearly 4400</a>, from just 3000 before. The company expected high growth to continue through 2016, but as the sales figures indicate, it wasn’t as good as expected. With sales being sluggish, it became necessary to make the company more efficient, which is why layoffs came into the picture.<br />
To be fair, it wasn’t just the recent slowdown that forced the company to layoff over 10% of its staff this year. Meizu’s CEO Bai Yongxiang had revealed early last year his plan to adopt Jack Welch&#8217;s 20-70-10 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitality_curve" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vitality curve</a> system, wherein the company would lay off the bottom 10% of the underperforming employees. Last year, it laid off around 5% of its workforce but this year the figure has nearly doubled, thanks to the less than impressive sales.</p>
<figure id="attachment_123647" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-123647" style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/OPPO-R9s-Green-6.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-123647" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/OPPO-R9s-Green-6.png?x44794" alt="OPPO R9s " width="610" height="343" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/OPPO-R9s-Green-6.png 610w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/OPPO-R9s-Green-6-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-123647" class="wp-caption-text">OPPO R9S was the best selling phone of 2016</figcaption></figure>
<p dir="ltr">The market hasn’t been kind to Meizu either. In 2016, IDC (International Data Corporation) reported that Chinese consumers now preferred to upgrade their smartphones with better specs. As a result, consumers would go on to prefer flagships from OPPO and Huawei (OPPO R9S and Huawei P9 respectively), instead of Meizu, as they are now willing to spend more. This shift in preference has adversely affected companies like Meizu whose focus has been on cheap mid-range devices.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/meizu">Meizu</a>’s near exclusive partnership with MediaTek could be another reason why the company has not been able to make a mark in the premium smartphone category. Apart from a couple of models like the Meizu Pro 5 which featured Exynos chipsets, all other company models relied on MTK processors. While the cheaper MTK processors gave Meizu cost advantage, the chipmaker’s less than stellar reputation in the premium category did it more harm than good. The Helio X20 and X25 chipsets from MediaTek in 2016 were way less powerful than rivals such as Snapdragon 820/821 and Exynos 8890. Given that Meizu’s most powerful Pro 6 models featured this MTK Helio X25 chipset, the phone couldn’t compete with the likes of Xiaomi Mi 5 / Mi 5S featuring more powerful Snapdragon 820 / 821 chipsets.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/helio-x30.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-144828" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/helio-x30.jpg?x44794" alt="helio x30" width="1280" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/helio-x30.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/helio-x30-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/helio-x30-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/helio-x30-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>The situation this year hasn’t changed much for MediaTek, with the company reportedly struggling with the new Helio X30’s mass production because of its advanced 10nm manufacturing node. On the other hand, Qualcomm’s flagship chipset this year, the Snapdragon 835 (also built on the 10nm node), has already found its place in premium smartphones since April 2017. So, you can see how Meizu’s reliance on MTK’s Helio X30 chipset for its new Pro 7 flagship couldn’t have helped the company in an early launch.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Also, Meizu’s pricing strategy hasn&#8217;t been on point from time to time. Take the Meizu M5 Note for example. The phone was launched at the end of 2016, powered by the Helio P10 processor, starting at 899 Yuan ($135). Interestingly, this price was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/01/03/meizu-quietly-increases-price-meizu-m5-note/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">quietly increased on the official Meizu store</a> a month later, in January 2017, to 999 Yuan ($150). Now consider this, at around the same price, you get the Helio X20 (flagship grade) powered Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. Further, there’s a Snapdragon variant of the Redmi Note 4 as well (which by the way is a best seller in India) at a similar price tag. Because of the better chipset inside the Xiaomi models, they seem to offer better value than the M5 Note, driving consumers to purchase the Note 4. For more details on their differences, you can check our <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/12/06/battle-middle-range-meizu-m5-note-vs-xiaomi-redmi-note-4/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Meizu M5 Note vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comparison here</a>.</p>
<figure id="attachment_144819" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-144819" style="width: 1024px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Meizu-m5-Note-featured.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-144819" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Meizu-m5-Note-featured.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu m5 Note featured" width="1024" height="576" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Meizu-m5-Note-featured.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Meizu-m5-Note-featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Meizu-m5-Note-featured-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-144819" class="wp-caption-text">Meizu m5 Note</figcaption></figure>
<p dir="ltr">As I mentioned above, Meizu has always been an online focused company. But that has done it more harm than good in the past few months. As the demand for affordable phones has saturated in the Tier 1 cities, Tier 2-4 cities will now drive growth for smartphone companies. The customers in these cities are less tech savvy and rely more on offline channels to purchase a smartphone. This is exactly why companies like OPPO and Vivo, who have focused on offline sales channels in the lower tier cities, have managed to grow so quickly.</p>
<p dir="ltr">In order to understand the importance of offline sales channels in China, you have to know the difference between online and offline customers first. Online customers are usually quite tech savvy, hunting for the best deals on the internet. This forces companies like Xiaomi and Meizu to keep the price aggressive with super low margins. On the other hand, offline customers are more brand conscious than price conscious. This is where the huge marketing budget of companies like OPPO and Vivo come into play. Thanks to the aggressive celebrity endorsements of their products, customers in these Tier 2-4 cities often end up buying smartphones seen with their favorite celebrities.</p>
<figure id="attachment_90320" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-90320" style="width: 598px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Xiaomi-redmi-pro-e1469090954882.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-90320" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Xiaomi-redmi-pro-e1469090954882.jpg?x44794" alt="Redmi Pro" width="598" height="336" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Xiaomi-redmi-pro-e1469090954882.jpg 598w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Xiaomi-redmi-pro-e1469090954882-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-90320" class="wp-caption-text">Chinese Actor Liu Haoran with the Redmi Pro</figcaption></figure>
<p dir="ltr">Companies like Xiaomi, who initially preferred to stay away from such promotions, have also started <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/07/03/xiaomi-mi-6-jackie-chan-limited-edition-actors-autograph-unveiled/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">partnering up with top celebrities</a> to market their smartphones. However, as of yet, Meizu seems to lay relatively quiet in this department, which hasn’t helped in its sales.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Of course, with so much marketing, these brands have to pass on the cost to the customers. And you can clearly see this increased cost transferred in the pricing of offline oriented smartphone brands. For example, the Xiaomi Mi 6 with dual cameras, Snapdragon 835 and 6GB RAM is priced at $2499 (~$374). On the other hand, the OPPO R11 which comes with a slower Snapdragon 660 and 4GB RAM starts at a higher 2999 Yuan (~$450). With these lower specs, the OPPO R11 shouldn’t be doing too well right? But there are already reports that OPPO has sold more than 2 million units within the first two months of launch.</p>
<p dir="ltr">To be honest, Meizu might not be in the best financial position to increase its marketing budget immediately. Last year, lawsuits with Qualcomm kept it busy and even the settlement deal with the chipmaker in December 2016 will have cost the company significantly.</p>
<p dir="ltr">So, for now, the company seems to be in the rebuilding/restructuring phase, releasing a limited number of smartphones (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-m5s/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Meizu M5S</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-e2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Meizu E2</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-m5c/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">M5C</a>, Meizu A5, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-pro-7/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pro 7, </a><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-pro-7-plus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pro 7 Plus</a>) in the first half of 2017.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><strong>What can we expect from Meizu in the second half of 2017?</strong></h2>
<p dir="ltr">Not much actually. The Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus with its secondary screens were probably the most exciting products from Meizu this year. According to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/09/supply-chain-analyst-leaks-meizu-product-release-plan-h2-2017/">an earlier leaked roadmap</a>, there are just a handful of smartphones (4 more) expected later in 2017, including Meizu MX7, Meizu M6 Note (launching on August 23) and another Meizu model with a Snapdragon 6XX series chipset.</p>
<figure id="attachment_130398" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-130398" style="width: 621px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Li-Nan-VP-Meizu.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-130398" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Li-Nan-VP-Meizu.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu VP Li Nan" width="621" height="414" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Li-Nan-VP-Meizu.jpg 621w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Li-Nan-VP-Meizu-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 621px) 100vw, 621px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-130398" class="wp-caption-text">Li Nan, VP of Blue Charm Brand</figcaption></figure>
<p dir="ltr">Although at present things may not look super positive for Meizu, the company seems to be making the right moves in 2017. It’s cutting down costs, focusing on a small number of smartphones in a year. It has already split the company into three focused brands: Meizu will focus on high-end smartphones, Blue Charm brand (M Series) will take care of the affordable smartphone segment and Flyme brand will focus on the development of the software aspect of smartphones. There has been a shuffle in the leadership as well, with founder Jack Wong overseeing company operations, Bai Yongxiang becoming the president of the main Meizu brand, Li Nan taking over as the President of the Blue Charm brand (M-Series) and Yang Yan becoming the president of Flyme.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Meizu’s offline marketing strategy is also getting some traction. The recent Pro 7 launch via offline stores (alongside online channels) were quite successful. Then there are roadshows being conducted across China to promote its brand new flagship. These efforts will help the company increase brand exposure in lower tier cities.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The settlement with Qualcomm should also help the company upgrade its reputation as a premium smartphone maker. High-end Snapdragon 8XX series flagships from Meizu aren’t expected anytime soon, but a Snapdragon 6XX mid-ranger, said to release before the end of this year, should be a good start to the relationship. By next year, we could finally see a top-end Qualcomm chip inside Meizu’s flagship, potentially making it a formidable rival to the big players in the market.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/flyme-os.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-144820" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/flyme-os.png?x44794" alt="flyme os" width="720" height="300" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/flyme-os.png 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/flyme-os-300x125.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></a></p>
<p dir="ltr">The company is also making significant efforts to improve its Flyme operating system. In the past few months, Meizu has managed to port its Flyme UI to a number of third party smartphones like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/09/meizus-flyme-os-now-officially-available-oneplus-3t-mi-note-3-qualcomm-phones/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">OnePlus 3T</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/06/12/zuk-edge-gets-new-life-line-via-flyme-os/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ZUK Edge</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/06/14/flyme-6-now-available-moto-models/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Moto X Style and Moto X Force</a>. This goes in line with the company’s strategy of establishing Meizu (Flyme) as a mobile internet company.</p>
<p dir="ltr">As you can see, Meizu’s recent decisions have been focused on restructuring the company’s strategies. Layoffs, business splits, management shuffles, new partnerships and focus on software are all part of the company’s rebuilding strategy. Therefore, it’s okay if Meizu has a lackluster 2017 as next year is probably going to be the comeback year for the company.</p>
<p dir="ltr">All we can do now is wait and watch!</p>

Thanks to the numerous leaks in the past few days, we already knew a lot about the phone, especially regarding its fast charging capabilities.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Meizu-M5S-02.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-118223" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Meizu-M5S-02.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu M5S 02" width="680" height="680" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Meizu-M5S-02.jpg 680w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Meizu-M5S-02-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Meizu-M5S-02-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/meizu/">Meizu </a>M5S will take on its Xiaomi Redmi counterparts with its super fast 18W charging. While the Redmi smartphones like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-4/">Redmi 4 </a>boast of large 4000mAh+ batteries inside, the <strong>Meizu M5S</strong> comes with a decent 3000mAh capacity battery inside. So, fast charging will definitely be one of the highlights of the phone. The company claims that the phone can charge up to 56% in just 30 minutes.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/MEizu-M5S-o1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-118224" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/MEizu-M5S-o1.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu M5S 01" width="680" height="680" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/MEizu-M5S-o1.jpg 680w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/MEizu-M5S-o1-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/MEizu-M5S-o1-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></a></p>
<p>Looks wise, the Meizu M5S continues the same design philosophy as its previous generation models, coming in an all metal body with CNC finish and four color options viz. champagne gold, rose gold, moonlight silver, and star gray. The phone features a 5.2-inch compact display with 720p resolution and 2.5D curved glass on top. It&#8217;s a pretty lightweight phone, weighing just 143 grams with 148.2 x 72.5 x 8.4mm body.</p>

<p>Inside, the Meizu M5S comes with a decent octa-core MT6753 processor (eight-core Cortex A53 architecture). there seems to be just one RAM version viz. 3GB but there are two storage versions, 16GB and 32GB, which are further expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD. At the back, the phone features a 13MP camera with an oleophobic coating on the lens, 5P lens, PDAF, dual LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. Up front, there is a 5MP f/2.0 shooter with beauty algorithm for flawless selfies.</p>

The phone comes with a totally different design seen as compared to the previous Meizu devices, which I feel is a welcome change.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-01.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-108929" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-01.jpg?x44794" alt="meizu x" width="1024" height="683" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-01.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-01-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-01-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"> We are not yet sure of the name, as ideally, Blue Charm devices have the &#8216;M&#8217; Prefix and this could end up being called as the Meizu MX. But that would be confusing since there&#8217;s already an MX series, so for now, we are calling it the Meizu X. </span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">First up, the <strong>Meizu X</strong> model comes with 2.5D curved glass with double ceramic crystal coating process. This will make the phone look super premium, especially when it comes in four beautiful colors namely Black, Blue, Gold, and White. Meizu’s devices had started to look more or less the same in the past couple of years, so I feel this design will be welcomed by fans.<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-06.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-108924" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-06.jpg?x44794" alt="meizu-mx-06" width="1000" height="509" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-06.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-06-300x153.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Meizu-MX-06-768x391.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></a></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Meizu X comes with a 5.5-inch FHD display from Sharp and uses TDDI display touch technology for better touch accuracy. Further, the phone’s display uses full Incell technology which will make sure that the panel is thin and looks great.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">In the hardware department, the Meizu X doesn’t disappoint. As expected, the phone comes with the Helio P20 chipset (MT6757), which will make it the first phone from an established international manufacturer using this processor. The chip is manufactured on a 16nm process and comes with octa-core architecture with max clock speed of 2.3GHz. The chip looks promising as MediaTek has claimed that offers 40% more performance and reduces power consumption by 60%. Further, the phone supports LPDDR4X RAM memory. There’s 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB storage options. As for software, the phone will come with Android 6 with Flyme 5.2 (a future update will upgrade it to Flyme 6). The new Flyme OS is said to come with over 400 feature additions and One Mind AI Engine.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/meizu-mx-camera-specs.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-108923" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/meizu-mx-camera-specs.png?x44794" alt="meizu-mx-camera-specs" width="610" height="523" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/meizu-mx-camera-specs.png 610w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/meizu-mx-camera-specs-300x257.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/meizu-mx-camera-specs-95x80.png 95w" sizes="(max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px" /></a></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The phone comes with a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor at the back with f/2.0 aperture, 6P lens, and PDAF. The company is also using the new ArcSoft beauty algorithm for better camera quality. Clearly, this is a level up for the camera in the budget Blue Charm series.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>Up front, there is a 5MP shooter.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">There’s a fingerprint sensor up front as well, which unlocks in 0.2s and supports payment platforms like Alipay and WeChat Pay. The battery onboard is decent, measuring 3200mAh and comes with mCharge which fills up the juice up to 40% in 30 minutes, thanks to 18W charging. With the efficient chip on board, the company claims that the phone will last more than a day easily. </span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Meizu X will go on sale for 1699 Yuan~ $246 (3GB + 32GB) and 1999 Yuan ~ $290 (4GB + 64GB). First sale is on December 8.</span></p>

Li Nan already <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/10/20/meizu-m5-likely-coming-october-27/">confirmed the launch of the device a few hours back</a> and now, new images of the M5 have cropped up online, along with a possible Geekbench listing. This means we have a lot more information about the upcoming device, including its new polycarbonate design and specifications.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-01.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-103618" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-01.jpg?x44794" alt="meizu-m5-01" width="440" height="440" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-01.jpg 440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-01-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-01-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px" /></a></p>
<p>The Meizu M5 seems to feature a very similar design as the<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-m3s/"> M3S model </a>which was announced in June, however, the phone could come with a polycarbonate body instead of a metal one. Further, along with a black colored model, we have also spotted a green colored one. Given that <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/meizu">Meizu&#8217;</a>s Blue Charm series have always been a colorful lineup, it&#8217;s possible that the company launches a green color option for the device.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-02.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-103617" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-02.jpg?x44794" alt="meizu-m5-02" width="440" height="440" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-02.jpg 440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-02-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-02-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px" /></a></p>

<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-06.jpg?x44794'><img width="300" height="300" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-06-300x300.jpg?x44794" class="attachment-medium size-medium" alt="meizu-m5-06" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-06-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-06-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-06.jpg 690w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a>

<p>As for the specs, a recent Geekbench listing of the device revealed that the Meizu M5 will come with the MT6750 octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and Android 6.0 on board. The above pictures further reveal that the phone was running on <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/YunOS">YunOS</a> platform and featured a 5-inch 720p display, 13MP rear camera, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It is said that there could be a 3GB RAM version of the device as well.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">RELATED:</span> <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/10/20/meizu-tv-box-in-the-works-priced-299-yuan-44/">Meizu TV Box in The Works, Priced at 299 Yuan ($44)</a></strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-geekbench.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-103616" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-geekbench.jpg?x44794" alt="meizu-m5-geekbench" width="667" height="540" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-geekbench.jpg 667w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Meizu-M5-geekbench-300x243.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px" /></a></p>
<p>As for the pricing of the Meizu M5, given the specs, expect it to be super cheap. Also, considering that Meizu is releasing this device in anticipation of its 11/11 sales, the company should price it aggressively. The M3S was announced for just $106, so the upcoming M5 model should also be priced around the same figure.</p>

While the phone has been <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/07/05/meizu-ceo-not-happy-mx6s-design-may-even-scrap-mx-series/">in the news for a number of reasons </a>previously, we now know the specs of the device thanks to its AnTuTu listing. The benchmarking app reveals most of the features of the device, so we know what to expect when we meet the handset after a few days.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-89038" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/9eb1b839jw1f5mb7izqkjj20go0qeq4h.jpg?x44794" alt="mx6 antutu" width="600" height="950" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/9eb1b839jw1f5mb7izqkjj20go0qeq4h.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/9eb1b839jw1f5mb7izqkjj20go0qeq4h-189x300.jpg 189w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>Like expected, the Meizu MX6 will come with the Helio X20 deca-core chipset and Mali-T880 under the hood with 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. While the display size is unknown (should be 5.5-inches), it will feature FHD 1080p resolution.  At the back, the phone will come with a 12MP camera sensor while up front, you get a 5MP shooter. As for software, the Meizu MX6 will come with Flyme 5.2.2 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on top.</p>

<p>Usually, AnTuTu also reveals the score of the handset that hits the app, but this time, we don&#8217;t have that information. However, considering Helio X20 is powering the device, the AnTuTu score of the MX6 should easily be above 90k points.</p>

<p>Meizu teased the MX6 today, confirming the July 19 release date of the flagship. It looks like the company plans to release a number of accessories as well, alongside the device at the event. But the three earlier handsets won&#8217;t likely be the end of the company&#8217;s smartphone launches this year, as there are a couple of the other phones we can expect to see in the coming months.</p>
<p>Now three new smartphones from Meizu have just been spotted on the TENAA certification website. They haven&#8217;t been fully listed yet, so we have very limited information about their specs at the moment. However, since they have been listed, we can expect a lot more information soon. The first two models were also listed on the 3C certification website recently, you <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/05/02/two-new-meizu-smartphones-spotted-mx6-meizu-metal-2/">can read about that from here</a>.</p>

<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-681Q.png?x44794'><img width="300" height="197" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-681Q-300x197.png?x44794" class="attachment-medium size-medium" alt="" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-681Q-300x197.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-681Q.png 512w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-681M.png?x44794'><img width="300" height="185" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-681M-300x185.png?x44794" class="attachment-medium size-medium" alt="" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-681M-300x185.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-681M.png 513w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-y685M.png?x44794'><img width="300" height="186" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-y685M-300x186.png?x44794" class="attachment-medium size-medium" alt="" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-y685M-300x186.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/meizu-y685M.png 514w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a>

<p>So, there are L681M, L681Q and Y685M models. The first two naturally are of the same phone but different variants. Our guess would be Meizu Metal 2. The Y685M should be the Meizu MX6 flagship.</p>
<p>As per earlier rumors about the MX6 flagship, it is said that the phone will come with Helio X20 chip inside with 3GB / 4GB RAM options and a 5.5-inch 1080p display on board. Other possible specs include a 3000mAh battery and 21MP rear camera. Along with the specs, we also have the rumored pricing of the handset. The MX6 16GB edition will reportedly start at 1499 Yuan ($230), 32GB at 1799 Yuan ($276) and 64GB at 1999 Yuan ($308).</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-81636" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/mx6-leaks.jpg?x44794" alt="mx6 leaks" width="338" height="600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/mx6-leaks.jpg 338w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/mx6-leaks-169x300.jpg 169w" sizes="(max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px" /></p>
<p>Yesterday, we also saw a leaked image claimed to be of the MX6 flagship. It&#8217;s a plain looking design in metal and seems like an early prototype. You can see the picture from above.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, we don&#8217;t have much information about the Meizu Metal 2 handset right now.</p>

<p>While there&#8217;s no doubt that Xiaomi dominates the sales in China, there are manufacturers like Meizu, OPPO and Vivo who also have a considerable share in this domestic market. Meizu in particular launched a number of new and affordable product in the past few months alone which will have definitely changed the numbers for the company in the Q1 2015. Now, we have some unofficial information about the sales figure of the company in the first three months of 2015.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/meizu-sales-figures.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-44934" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/meizu-sales-figures.png?x44794" alt="meizu sales figures" width="608" height="402" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/meizu-sales-figures.png 608w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/meizu-sales-figures-300x198.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 608px) 100vw, 608px" /></a></p>
<p>Sun Changxu revealed on Weibo recently that Meizu along with other Chinese manufacturers are doing quite well in the first quarter of 2015. The sales was mainly driven by the Chinese Spring Festival season.</p>
<p>Sun also revealed some more information about Meizu&#8217;s sales figures. According to her, Meizu sold around 1.5 million units in January, 1.2 million units in February and 1.9 to 2 million units in March. The company&#8217;s quarter on quarter growth has been impressive. Last December, it sold around 1 million units, but in recent months, the company has reached the 2 million units sales mark, which is commendable.</p>
<p>The timing of the growth in sales hint that Meizu&#8217;s newest Blue Charm range could be responsible for such an amazing growth. Both, the Blue Charm Meizu M1 Note and the Meizu M1 (Mini) has attracted praises from experts and users alike, which is why we see a spurt in its sales. And given this rate, it looks like Meizu will easily reach its target sales of 20 million+ units by the end of 2015.</p>
<p>In comparison, Xiaomi sold over 61.12 million units in 2015, averaging about 5.1 million per month. Sun also said that Meizu is aiming to increase its production to 2 million units a month.</p>
<p>Meizu definitely has converted itself as a quality brand with affordable hardware. The M1 Note in particular has been the company&#8217;s best value for device.</p>
<p>So, do you like Meizu? Do you think the company will ever be as big as Xiaomi?</p>
