Meizu has unveiled a new power bank in China dubbed Meizu Supercharged USB-C power bank. The power bank will go on sale at 10 am on August 25 which is tomorrow. It carries an affordable 169 yuan (~$24) price tag.

The major selling points of the Meizu Supercharged USB-C power bank include a two-way supercharge USB-C port, a high power rating of 22.5W as well as a fast charging protocol.

The Meizu mobile power bank features a polymer battery with a 10000mAh capacity. Despite the large battery, the power bank has a thin build. The body is made using PC+ABS material and it comes in pure white colour. The device also has a digital display at one of the edges which shows the battery power left. You can view the battery power left by pressing the power button.

In terms of interfaces, the power bank has two interfaces, a USB-A and USB-C port. Next to the ports is a power button. In terms of input, Meizu Supercharged USB-C power bank supports three specifications: 5V/3A, 9V/2A, and 12V/1.5A. While for output, the USB-A interface supports three specifications: 5V/3A, 9V/2A, and 12V/1.5A. On the other hand, the USB-C interface supports 5V/2.4A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A, 5V/4.5A, and 4.5V /5A.

Earlier today (8th May 2020), Meizu launched a bunch of new products alongside the launch of the company’s flagship smartphone series, Meizu 17. Among the new products was a new power bank that has a 10,000mAh capacity and is capable of charging devices up to 22.5W.

The Meizu Supercharged power bank charges smartphones via a USB Type-C port and has a massive 10,000mAh capacity. It also supports USB Type-A for both input and output. Notably, the power bank also has a status display function, meaning a small display at the bottom indicated various information like battery level and power output levels as well.

The power bank is Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 compliant, so supporting smartphones can be fast charged through this device. The Supercharged power bank was announced in the launch conference which was held online today, but the company has yet to give out an official date for its availability as of right now.

Meizu is expected to launch the Meizu 17 and 17 Pro this month in China. Before now, there have been several leaks and official teasers which capture some details of the phone. One of such details is the presence of a 4500mAh battery with support for 30W Super mCharge. The device is also tipped to ship with a GaN charger onboard the retail box.

Meizu accessories have now released a poster teasing the impending launch of a Super mCharge USB-C Power bank. The poster shows the power bank will have a flat design but will feature an LED display which possible would show the battery level and other parameters. The power bank is also likely to feature support for 30W fast charging.

The Meizu 17 series will be released online on May 8th, so we expect the power bank to be launched the same day.

A few years ago Meizu released its first set of power banks – the M10 and M8. Both have a 10,000mAh battery capacity with a beautiful two-tone design. However, only the M10 has support for fast charging. A few months ago the company released a Minion Yellow special edition of the power bank to mark the release of the Despicable Me 3 movie in China. Today it has announced the Meizu M20 Power Bank which has a similar design to the original with a few changes in addition to two-way fast charging.

Meizu M20 Design

The Meizu M20 has the same dual color design – a white half that is unique to all variants with the other part being red, green, gray or navy blue. It measures 148.5 x 75.7 x 17.5 mm.

There is still only one output port. Beside it is a micro USB input port and 4 LEDs that indicate the charge remaining. A new addition to the Meizu M20 is a power button which wasn’t present on the M8 and M10.

Meizu M20 Specs

The Meizu M20 keeps the battery capacity at 10,000mAh (Lithium-ion polymer) and supports two way fast charging. The output port can deliver up to 24W of power (5-6V/3A, 6-9V/2.6A, 9-12V/2A) while the input port supports 18W fast charge (5-9V/2A and 9-12V/1.5A). Meizu says you should be able to recharge the power bank in 3.5 hours using an 18W charger.

It also has a number of safety measures such protections against overcharging, high current and high voltage, extreme temperature and short circuiting.

The Meizu M20 will sell for ¥169 (~$26) when it goes on sale. As mentioned above, it will come in red, navy blue, green and gray.

gi has launched a new special edition of its power bank which is meant to commemorate the opening day of the “Despicable Me 3” film in China. The Meizu Power Bank Minion Yellow Special Edition comes with the unique colour theme (Yellow Minion) of the main characters in the Despicable Me franchise which is the Minions. The Minions are so popular that the Pantone color institute named a color after them which is Minion Yellow. The special edition of  Meizu’s fast charging power bank was launched on 7/7/17, the same day the “Despicable Me 3” opened in China with a record performance in the Cinemas.

The Meizu Power bank is sure attractive due to the bright yellow collour which it comes with. The box casing is colour in yellow, with “Despicable Me” written on one edge. The power bank itself also has its protective casing coated in yellow with a touch of black and gray. The power bank is designed in such a way that it looks like one of the minions with their iconic big eyes. There is also a protective cover made from canvas material which makes the power bank look like a dummy minion. Apart from the color coating, the power bank has the same shape as the regular Meizu power bank.

The Meizu Power Bank features a two-way fast charging technology meaning it charges smartphones very fast and when it is drained, it gets charged fast as well. The power bank is expected to have a 10,000mAh capacity but other details are yet to be revealed. We don’t know when it would be available for purchase or the price tag it would carry but that should crop up soon considering the huge media attention the Despicable Me 3 is presently generating in China.
