<p>The company has released a new teaser which shows some kind of partnership between Meizu and Ubuntu. Considering the tradition of the company<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/02/25/meizu-visits-mwc-ubuntu-version-mx4/"> of releasing Ubuntu-powered smartphones at MWC</a>, this teaser is most likely for the launch of the <strong>Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition</strong>. Last year, we saw Meizu MX4 running Ubuntu at MWC 2015.</p>
<figure id="attachment_71806" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-71806" style="width: 450px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/962857d0-c8aa-11e5-aa4c-05883facf6ea.jpg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-71806 size-full" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/962857d0-c8aa-11e5-aa4c-05883facf6ea.jpg?x96852" alt="mx5 pro" width="450" height="800" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-71806" class="wp-caption-text">Leaked Pro 5 Ubuntu edition model</figcaption></figure>
<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time we are hearing about a Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu edition model. At the start of this month, a couple of pictures of the Pro 5 running on the Ubuntu OS were leaked, which kind of hinted at such a collaboration. Now, it looks like the company is going to make the Pro 5 Ubuntu version official at MWC 2015. Usually, the specs of the device remain the same as before. So, in this Ubuntu edition, we can expect only the software to be different.</p>
<p>Meizu Pro 5 was one of the most powerful flagships of 2015 and it would be interesting to see Ubuntu OS on top of this device. The teaser shows that the company will announce something on February 22, the first day of MWC.</p>
<p>So, could Pro 5 be the Ubuntu-powered smartphone that we were waiting for? Let me know your thoughts.</p>

With this chip inside, the phone manages to score more than 70K easily, which is why many of us are interested to see how well the Pro 5 flagship manages to dissipate heat.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro5-unboxing-06.jpg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-60288" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro5-unboxing-06.jpg?x96852" alt="meizu-pro5-unboxing-06" width="600" height="399" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Snapdragon 810 has a very bad reputation of overheating, despite being a powerful flagship chipset. On the other hand, the 14nm based Exynos 7420 seems to tackle the problem of overheating quite well. So, some folks over at China decided to perform a heating test on the new Meizu Pro 5 under certain circumstances to see how whether it managed to keep the heat levels under control.</p>
<p><strong>TEST I</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-1443602675577.jpg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone" style="width: 469px; max-width: 920px;" title="wpid-1443602675577.jpg" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-1443602675577.jpg?x96852&amp;w=920" alt="image" width="580" height="175" /></a></p>
<p>In the first test, the Meizu Pro 5 was made to run the <strong>AnTuTu benchmark test</strong> for about 5 minutes. The test takes care of a number of areas like processing power, GPU etc, which should technically heat up the device. It&#8217;s like playing a high-end game for about 5 minutes on the device. After the first five minutes of the test, wherein the phone managed to score about 76K points, the maximum temperature at the front was<span style="color: #ff0000;"> <strong>39.5</strong> </span><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">degree</span> </strong>Celsius. At the back, the maximum temperature was just <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>37.3 degrees</strong> </span>Celsius with an average of about <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>35.8 degrees</strong></span>. The phone managed to keep the temperature under 40 degrees which is quite impressive. Not bad for a flagship with such raw power underneath!</p>
<p><strong>TEST II</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-1443602675899.jpg?x96852"><img class="alignnone " style="width: 477px; max-width: 580px;" title="wpid-1443602675899.jpg" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-1443602675899.jpg?x96852&amp;w=580" alt="image" height="178" /></a></p>
<p>In the second test, the phone was made to run a <strong>full HD 1080p video for 10 long minutes</strong>. After the video playback, the temperatures of both the back and the front were measured. The temperature up front was just <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">34.6 degrees</span></strong> with the average being <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>32.4 degrees</strong></span>. As for the back of the device, the maximum temperature was just <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">34.2 degrees</span></strong> with the average being <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">33.5 degrees.</span></strong></p>
<p>Both the tests show that Meizu has done a great job controlling heat on its Pro 5 flagship. This does prove that high-end performance is possible without overheating the device to unacceptable levels.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

So, its not surprising to see many of the company&#8217;s flagship smartphones boast of Hi-Fi audio. And today, thanks to a new post from Meizu&#8217;s VP Li Nan, we know that the upcoming Meizu Pro 5 flagship will feature Hi-Fi chip. Alongside this new flagship smartphone, the company will also release its new headsets, the EP-31.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-14428379783931.jpeg?x96852"><img title="wp-1442837978393" class="alignnone size-full" alt="image" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-14428379783931.jpeg?x96852" /></a> </p>
<p>Unlike the Xiaomi Piston, which is targeted at the affordable maket, the Meizu EP-31 headsets are said to be targeted at the high-end audiophiles. The pricing is said to be somewhere around 499 Yuan. While you can expect the company to bundle these headphone along with the Pro 5 flagship for a slightly higher price tag, it will most likely be available for purchase separately for the above mention price, soon after the announcement.<br />
<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442837844554.jpeg?x96852"><img style="width:600px;max-width:600px;" title="wpid-wp-1442837844554.jpeg" class="alignnone size-full" alt="image" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442837844554.jpeg?x96852&amp;w=600" /></a> </p>
<p>As for the flagship Pro 5, the phone is said to come with Exynos 7420 chipset inside with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. CEO has confirmed the presence of a 5.7-inch 1080p display. As for camera, you can expect a 21MP shooter at the back and a 5MP front facing camera. Given its flagship placement, expect the battery to be at least 3000mAh.</p>
<p>Overall, the Pro 5 is a powerful handset. With the Hi-Fi chip inside and Hi-Fi headsets, the phone should particularly attract a lot of audiophiles. Pricing is said to be above 3000 Yuan ($470). Since we are just one day away from the official launch, lets wait for more details.</p>

The company CEO, VP and other executives have been teasing the new product, revealing few pieces of information every once in a while. The latest news about the Pro 5 handset comes directly via the company VP, Li Nan, who revealed some information about the phone&#8217;s battery life. Battery life have always been one of the important factors that affect buying decision and from the leak, it looks like fans won&#8217;t be disappointed with the new Pro 5 handset.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810884491.jpeg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-59493" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810884491.jpeg?x96852" alt="wpid-wp-1442810884491.jpeg" width="540" height="960" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810884491.jpeg 540w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810884491-169x300.jpeg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810884491-236x420.jpeg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px" /></a></p>
<p>Li Nan posted a few screenshots with the battery usage stats on his official Weibo account yesterday night. We can also see that these images were posted from the Meizu Pro 5 flagship itself. They reveal that the Pro 5 handset managed to run for approximately 16 hours 46 minutes with about 4% of battery left. We are assuming that the 16 hours 46 minutes figure was after a complete charge of the handset. Another screenshot reveals that the Pro 5&#8217;s display got around 8 hours of screen time during this period. That&#8217;s a pretty impressive figure and it may also mean that the Pro 5 comes with a larger battery. What&#8217;s even more interesting is that Li Nan adds that this is not the official Flyme version running and when the official version hits the device, users can expect even better battery life due to optimizations.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810887160.jpeg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-59494" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810887160.jpeg?x96852" alt="wpid-wp-1442810887160.jpeg" width="540" height="960" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810887160.jpeg 540w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810887160-169x300.jpeg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442810887160-236x420.jpeg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px" /></a></p>
<p>Of course, since these screenshots come directly from the company executive, they may be a bit exaggerated. We will have to wait for our official battery life test to judge the real performance of the handset. But anything close to the above figure will be good.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro-5-renders.jpg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-59495" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro-5-renders.jpg?x96852" alt="meizu pro 5 renders" width="440" height="536" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro-5-renders.jpg 440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro-5-renders-246x300.jpg 246w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro-5-renders-345x420.jpg 345w" sizes="(max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px" /></a></p>
<p>As for the specs, the Meizu Pro 5 handset will reportedly come with a 5.7-inch 1080p display, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/15/meizu-ceo-confirms-5-7-inch-1080p-display-on-the-pro-5-flagship/">as confirmed by CEO Bai Yongxiang</a>. Under the hood, there will be the Exynos 7420 chipset with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. At the back, there will be a 21MP camera, while up front, expect a 5MP shooter. The battery is expected to be greater than 3000mAh.</p>
<p>Overall, the Pro 5 is turning out to be a great handset, at least in terms of specs. With Flyme 5 and excellent hardware specs, we expect better user experience than previous flagships. But according to rumors, the phone might cost well above, 3000 Yuan ($471). So, it will be interesting to see, if users are ready to shell out this much money for a Meizu device.</p>

We have been hearing a lot about the device in the past few weeks, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/15/meizu-ceo-confirms-5-7-inch-1080p-display-on-the-pro-5-flagship/">thanks to the numerous leaks online</a>. Meizu&#8217;s Chief Architect of Flyme OS, Yang Yan also revealed yesterday that the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/17/meizu-pro-5-wont-come-with-flyme-5-os-at-launch/">flagship won&#8217;t be coming with Flyme 5 OS based on Android 5.1 out of the box</a>. This was disappointing and kind of surprising as well given that Flyme 5 debuts alongside the Pro 5 flagship.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442557017710.jpeg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-59334" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442557017710.jpeg?x96852" alt="wpid-wp-1442557017710.jpeg" width="350" height="142" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442557017710.jpeg 350w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1442557017710-300x122.jpeg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px" /></a></p>
<p>Now, we have received more details about the upcoming Pro 5 device, thanks to the certification at the National 3C Quality Certification Center. According to the listing, the new Meizu flagship will come in two variants, one with the model number M576 and the other with M576U. These two could be the low-end and high-end variants of the new flagship.</p>
<p>While we kind of knew there would be two variants before hand, the listing also reveals that both the models will support fast charging at 12V / 2A. That&#8217;s charging at an impressive 24W, which will definitely speed up the overall charging times. The listing only reveals the model number of these two devices, but given that Meizu has an event for the release of Pro 5 next week, its almost likely that these two are the Pro 5 models.</p>
<p>As for the specs, the Meizu Pro 5 flagship is expected to feature a <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/15/meizu-ceo-confirms-5-7-inch-1080p-display-on-the-pro-5-flagship/">5.7-inch FHD 1080p display </a>with Samsung Exynos 7420 chipset. Like mentioned above, there will be two variants of the device, 3GB + 16GB and 4GB + 32GB models. At the back, there will be a powerful 21MP camera, while up front expect a 5MP selfie shooter. While the battery size is unknown, at 12V / 2A, you wouldn&#8217;t have to wait for more than a hour or two to get it fully charged.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/17/zuk-z1-does-not-support-quick-charge-2-0-but-charging-is-still-fast/">ALSO SEE: ZUK Z1 Charging Analysis</a></strong></p>
<p>The company VP Li Nan had already revealed some of the renders of the new flagship and they looked similar to the previous generation models. <p>As for the pricing, the high-end version is expected to cost above 3000 Yuan ($471), while the low-end version could be priced somewhere around 1499 Yuan ($235).</p>

<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954893407.jpeg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-58620" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954893407-1024x683.jpeg?x96852" alt="wpid-wp-1441954893407.jpeg" width="800" height="534" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954893407.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954893407-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954893407-630x420.jpeg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954893407-640x427.jpeg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954893407-681x454.jpeg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p>The new high-quality images of the Pro 5&#8217;s box, confirm the all black design that we saw earlier. Inside, the place where the smartphone lies also kind of confirms the round corners on the device. But its not surprising given that we had already seen some good quality renders of the Pro 5, thanks to the leak by the same VP.</p>

<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954895998.jpeg?x96852'><img width="696" height="464" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954895998-1024x683.jpeg?x96852" class="attachment-large size-large" alt="" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954895998.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954895998-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954895998-630x420.jpeg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954895998-640x427.jpeg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441954895998-681x454.jpeg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></a>

<p>In fact, Li Nan had released the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/08/meizus-new-flagship-borrows-design-from-apple-renders-front-panel-leaked/">images just a few hours before the official launch of the iPhone 6S</a>, just to avoid any design copy accusations from users. As you can see from the image below, the Meizu Pro 5 flagship seems to continue with the same design philosophy as the MX5.</p>

<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776290179.jpeg?x96852'><img width="519" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776290179-519x1024.jpeg?x96852" class="attachment-large size-large" alt="" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776290179-519x1024.jpeg 519w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776290179-152x300.jpeg 152w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776290179-213x420.jpeg 213w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776290179.jpeg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 519px) 100vw, 519px" /></a>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776286199.jpeg?x96852'><img width="440" height="813" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776286199.jpeg?x96852" class="attachment-large size-large" alt="" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776286199.jpeg 440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776286199-162x300.jpeg 162w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441776286199-227x420.jpeg 227w" sizes="(max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px" /></a>

<p>As for the specs, Meizu CEO Bai Yongxiang had said that the upcoming devices<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/08/meizus-next-generation-phones-to-feature-1080p-resolution-screens/"> will feature a resolution of 1080p</a>. As for the display size, its expected to be around 5.5-inches. Under the hood, it is said that the phone will come with Exynos 7420 chipset with 3GB / 4GB RAM versions and 32GB/ 64Gb storage options. At the back, you can expect a powerful 21MP shooter and up front, a 5MP camera.</p>
<p>As for the pricing, the company has already said that it is targeted at the premium high-end segment, so it should be greater than 3000 Yuan.</p>

To make thing easier for us to guess, the teaser image came with the words, <strong>Meizu Go Pro</strong>. So, we knew that the new Meizu device was going to be called as the Pro. But now, thanks to the leaked images of the retail box, the actual name of the handset has been revealed.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884601427.jpeg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-58577" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884601427.jpeg?x96852" alt="wpid-wp-1441884601427.jpeg" width="550" height="413" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884601427.jpeg 550w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884601427-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884601427-80x60.jpeg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884601427-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884601427-180x135.jpeg 180w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884601427-238x178.jpeg 238w" sizes="(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px" /></a></p>
<p>While we expected some new name for the premium lineup, it looks like Meizu has decided to keep things simple by calling it the <strong>Meizu Pro 5</strong>. The leaked box clearly comes with the words &#8216;Pro 5&#8217; on top, which gave away the name of the upcoming flagship handset. The overall design and packaging of the box is in line with Meizu&#8217;s invitation, as a result, its likely that the this is the real deal.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884609499.jpeg?x96852"> </a></p>

<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884607237.jpeg?x96852'><img width="550" height="733" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884607237.jpeg?x96852" class="attachment-large size-large" alt="" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884607237.jpeg 550w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884607237-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884607237-315x420.jpeg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px" /></a>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Its really surprising to see that the company would go with such a name. When Li Nan said that they were <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/07/30/meizu-scrapped-mx5-pro/">discontinuing the MX5 lineup</a>, we expected something a lot different, in the name as well as feel. <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/01/meizu-me5-flagship-metal-chassis/">Meizu ME5 was the rumored name </a>going around on the internet for the past few weeks, but it looks like Meizu Pro 5 will be the final name of the handset.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884596467.jpeg?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-58576" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884596467.jpeg?x96852" alt="wpid-wp-1441884596467.jpeg" width="550" height="978" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884596467.jpeg 550w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884596467-169x300.jpeg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wpid-wp-1441884596467-236x420.jpeg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px" /></a></p>
<p>Another reason why the name could be real is because the original source who posted the pictures of the retail box deleted the weibo post immediately. But thanks to the active weibo users, we have those pictures right now.</p>
<p>Anyways, the Pro 5 launch is just a couple of weeks away. Given that we are receiving new information almost every day, we can expect to see a lot more about the Meizu Pro 5 flagship before the official launch.</p>
<p>Anyways, what do you think about the name Meizu Pro 5? Do you like it?</p>
