The company is now in the process of recruiting beta testers to iron out the bugs and other issues from Flyme 7 before it is officially made available to wider audience. As of this writing, Meizu is yet to confirm on the list of the smartphones that will be receiving the new Flyme 7 UI. Since it has made the beta version available for the older Meizu PRO 5 phone, it seems that plenty of Meizu phones will be treated with Flyme 7.

The below shown image reveals that the Flyme 7 is now available for beta testing on two devices such as Meizu PRO 5 and Meizu M6 Note. As mentioned above, the Chinese manufacturer is yet to confirm on the list of supported Meizu phones for Flyme 7. The Meizu PRO 5 smartphone was launched in September 2015 and it is fueled by Exynos 7420 SoC. This indicates that apart from 2018 Meizu phones, the Flyme 7 could be available to all the Meizu devices that were launched in 2016 and 2017.

Hence, some of the popular Meizu phones from the past two years that are expected to receive the Flyme 7 include Meizu M5, M5 Note, M3, M3 Note, M3 Max, M3x, M3s, M3e, Pro 6, Pro 6 Plus, Pro 6s, and MX6. The 2017 Meizu phones such as Meizu PRO 7, PRO 7 Plus, M6, M5c, Meizu M5s and Meizu E2 are also expected to receive the Flyme 7 update. It goes without saying that this year’s Meizu M6s and Meizu E3 phones will also receive the Flyme 7 update.

The above shown leaked photo reveals that the Meizu PRO 5 and M6 Note has received the Flyme 7.8.4.17 daily edition. The version number suggests that it is a day-to-day test version that is being rolled out on a daily basis.

In order to try the beta version of the Flyme 7, one can enroll through the Flyme Community app. One should be aware of the fact that the beta edition may contain bugs. Hence, users who are interested to try the beta version are suggested to perform a backup of the device before installing it.

Since then nothing has been heard about the proposed Meizu Pay until now. The company has now officially announced that the Meizu Pay feature will be opening for Open Beta as from June 21.

The payment platform is apparently in response to the growing trend and expansion of payment apps such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, AliPay, Tencent Pay, Mi Pay and others. In order not to be cut out of the share of the market in a situation it joins the party late, the company is getting into the fray now. The open beta for the Meizu Pay will run from June 21 to July 20 and is only open for users of the Meizu Pro 5 and Pro 6 Plus, two of its flagship models with NFC. The use of NFC effectively rules out the possibility of this feature hitting other models without NFC anytime soon. The company may, however, decide to enable fingerprint payment feature later on which would make the payment app available on more models.

Meizu is presently accepting applications to join the Open beta program. The company also disclosed that the top 20 users during the open beta will have a reward each. Interested users will need to register on the Flyme website and fill a Questionnaire. After that qualified applicants will be contacted to meet with Meizu’s officials within three working days. One of the requirement is the ability to use NFC and another is ownership of either the Pro 5 or Pro 6 Plus.

The Meizu Pro 5 was released in Q4 2015. It has a 5.7” AMOLED Full HD display, 3GB/4GB RAM, sports an Exynos 7420 processor and a 21MP primary camera. When it launched Meizu even ran a promo where you could swap your OnePlus 2 for a brand new Pro 5.

Over the past couple of months following the launch of the Meizu Pro 6, the Pro 5 has had its prices slashed from its initial tags of ¥2799 ($438) and ¥3099 ($485) for the 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB variant respectively. Right now, it has even gotten a lot cheaper (the 3GB variant though).

Lynx currently has the 3GB model for just ¥1699 ($248) which is a lot lesser than the ¥2199 ($320) price tag its wearing on Meizu’s official website.

Although you get less RAM, you can still expand the storage as the Meizu Pro 5 supports up to 256GB SD cards. The phone also has dual SIM slots (nano-only), a 5MP front facing camera, USB Type-C, and a 3050mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 support.

The specs are not bad at all and one good thing is that the Pro 5 will also get updated to Flyme 6.

The company has released a new teaser which shows some kind of partnership between Meizu and Ubuntu. Considering the tradition of the company of releasing Ubuntu-powered smartphones at MWC, this teaser is most likely for the launch of the Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition. Last year, we saw Meizu MX4 running Ubuntu at MWC 2015.

Leaked Pro 5 Ubuntu edition model

This isn’t the first time we are hearing about a Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu edition model. At the start of this month, a couple of pictures of the Pro 5 running on the Ubuntu OS were leaked, which kind of hinted at such a collaboration. Now, it looks like the company is going to make the Pro 5 Ubuntu version official at MWC 2015. Usually, the specs of the device remain the same as before. So, in this Ubuntu edition, we can expect only the software to be different.

Meizu Pro 5 was one of the most powerful flagships of 2015 and it would be interesting to see Ubuntu OS on top of this device. The teaser shows that the company will announce something on February 22, the first day of MWC.

So, could Pro 5 be the Ubuntu-powered smartphone that we were waiting for? Let me know your thoughts.

You can now download and install the open beta version of the Flyme 5 OS on your Meizu Pro 5 flagship. Let me remind you, this is not the stable version, so you won’t be getting it via the OTA update. So, if you are interested in flashing this new version, you will have to do it manually. Or else, wait for a few weeks more until the company releases the final version for all users.

Flyme 5.0 comes with a lot of new functionality and design changes. Apart from the split screen function and card taskbar, the company has also paid special attention to the phone’s camera UI. Now, you have a number of new shooting options such as slow motion, GIF, voice photographs etc.

Although we have yet to test the new Flyme 5 personally, it looks like a great improvement from the previous version. So, if you have the Pro 5 and want to test out the new version, you can download and flash it via the link given below.

While this sounded like an absurd deal, given that these phones are much costlier than the OnePlus 2, Meizu is here to give OnePlus a taste of their own medicine.

Yesterday evening, Meizu kicked off a campaign wherein OnePlus 2 users could swap their smartphones for a brand new Meizu Pro 5 flagship. If you consider the specifications of the Pro 5, this actually turns out to be a pretty good deal! Well, to make things even more competitive, Meizu’s campaign has the hashtag #TurnTheHeatOff. In case you remember, OnePlus’s own campaign was called #TakeTheEdgeOFF!

From the hashtag, it looks like the company wants users to swap to a Meizu Pro 5 to get over the heating problems associated with the Snapdragon 810 chipset under the hood. There seems to be limited units available for the swap and according to the page, the lucky winners will be announced via e-mails later this week.

Meizu is yet to reveal details about this campaign like what happens to the OnePlus 2s that they receive, do they donate it or do they use it for some other purpose? Also, its not yet known when and how the actual swap will take place. We hope to get more details pretty soon as the campaign comes to an end.

As for the Pro 5, it features the powerful Exynos 7420 with 3GB/ 4GB RAM options and 21MP/ 5MP cameras. Overall a great deal we would say. So, if you are not happy with your OnePlus 2, this might be a good opportunity to swap your phone for something better without costing you a penny. Just head over to their Facebook page and fill out a form to participate in the campaign.

What do you think about this campaign? Would you trade your OnePlus 2 for a Meizu Pro 5?

With this chip inside, the phone manages to score more than 70K easily, which is why many of us are interested to see how well the Pro 5 flagship manages to dissipate heat.

Snapdragon 810 has a very bad reputation of overheating, despite being a powerful flagship chipset. On the other hand, the 14nm based Exynos 7420 seems to tackle the problem of overheating quite well. So, some folks over at China decided to perform a heating test on the new Meizu Pro 5 under certain circumstances to see how whether it managed to keep the heat levels under control.

TEST I

In the first test, the Meizu Pro 5 was made to run the AnTuTu benchmark test for about 5 minutes. The test takes care of a number of areas like processing power, GPU etc, which should technically heat up the device. It’s like playing a high-end game for about 5 minutes on the device. After the first five minutes of the test, wherein the phone managed to score about 76K points, the maximum temperature at the front was 39.5 degree Celsius. At the back, the maximum temperature was just 37.3 degrees Celsius with an average of about 35.8 degrees. The phone managed to keep the temperature under 40 degrees which is quite impressive. Not bad for a flagship with such raw power underneath!

TEST II

In the second test, the phone was made to run a full HD 1080p video for 10 long minutes. After the video playback, the temperatures of both the back and the front were measured. The temperature up front was just 34.6 degrees with the average being 32.4 degrees. As for the back of the device, the maximum temperature was just 34.2 degrees with the average being 33.5 degrees.

Both the tests show that Meizu has done a great job controlling heat on its Pro 5 flagship. This does prove that high-end performance is possible without overheating the device to unacceptable levels.

This is the first phone in the company’s new Pro series, which is targeted at the high-end market. Like promised, the Pro 5 flagship comes with top-notch specs that will put most other smartphones to shame.

The Meizu Pro 5 comes with the powerful Exynos 7420 chipset under the hood. This is a great move from the company since at present, Exynos 7420 is one of the best SoCs in the market. The same chip powers the company’s Galaxy Series which have received positive reviews for their performance. Plus its built using the advanced 14nm FinFet process making it all the more efficient. Further, the phone comes with Mali-T760 MP8 GPU and 16nm UFS Flash memory. There will be 3GB / 4GB DDR4 RAM options and storage starts at 32GB with higher version getting 64GB.

Like the founder Bai Yongxiang revealed a few days back, the Pro 5 flagship will come with a 5.7-inch FHD 1080p Diamond Super AMOLED display with 2.5D Glass. So, we won’t be seeing any 2K smartphones from the company anytime soon.

At the back, there’s a powerful 21MP Sony IMX230 Sensor. The camera module features a new ISP, which supports shooting at 24 fps as well. The company claims that the camera launches in just 0.7 seconds. Laser AF focuses in just 0.2 seconds. Interestingly, the company is yet to announce the specs of the front camera.

With such powerful specs, you need a large battery. While the 3050mAh battery isn’t the largest we have seen in a flagship, its still good enough to last you an entire day. Meizu claims that with 5 hours of heavy usage the phone still has about 43% charge. This is because it comes with a new efficient sensor hub that reduces power consumption by up to 30%. What’s even better is that the phone comes with mCharge 2.0, which charges up to 60% in just 30 minutes. That’s pretty impressive. Plus, you get the new USB Type-C port as well.

Meizu started off as an MP3 player manufacturer. And now the company is using its previous experience in the field to attract audiophiles. The new Meizu Pro 5 smartphone will come with Hi-Fi 2.0. It comes with ES9018 DAC chip and OPA1612 operational amp to make sure that music output is of high quality.

As for the software, like we expected, the Pro 5 comes with Flyme 4.5 out of the box. However, the phone will soon (by Nov 15) be upgraded to Flyme 5.0 based on Android 5.1. The new Flyme OS brings a lot of upgrades like personalized lock screen, new icons, real time, color change with content, split screen multi-tasking, new security center, custom fonts (200+) and over 300+ such features and optimizations. Connectivity options are standard with Cat. 6 LTE support (300MBPS +) and VoLTE support as well.

Also, like the MX5, you get the mBack button integrated with mTouch fingerprint ID.

The company was established in 2003 and expanded to the smartphone business in 2008 then to a global presence today. MEIZU devices are developed based on a philosophy to make products light in weight but having an elegant user experience with wide screen coupled with easy to use user interface and premium sound quality. Their philosophy was evident from the recent releases in the market.

Rumor has been going around that this company was planning to change its logo. And now this has been confirmed and Meizu has unveiled its new logo that will be placed on the new line of devices to be released in the near future. The new logo is designed to read MEIZU in English in light blue color with a unique simple stoke font containing smooth curves around the letters E, Z and U. So, the new logo will be much more linear than the one before, which decreased in thickness as it moved towards the end.

You can check out the video below posted by Huang Zhang for more information.

It looks like the company will debut the new logo today, at the event where it will also unveil the brand new Meizu Pro 5 flagship. The phone is expected to be high-end with great features, so make sure you check back on the website soon for more details.

So, its not surprising to see many of the company’s flagship smartphones boast of Hi-Fi audio. And today, thanks to a new post from Meizu’s VP Li Nan, we know that the upcoming Meizu Pro 5 flagship will feature Hi-Fi chip. Alongside this new flagship smartphone, the company will also release its new headsets, the EP-31.

Unlike the Xiaomi Piston, which is targeted at the affordable maket, the Meizu EP-31 headsets are said to be targeted at the high-end audiophiles. The pricing is said to be somewhere around 499 Yuan. While you can expect the company to bundle these headphone along with the Pro 5 flagship for a slightly higher price tag, it will most likely be available for purchase separately for the above mention price, soon after the announcement.

As for the flagship Pro 5, the phone is said to come with Exynos 7420 chipset inside with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. CEO has confirmed the presence of a 5.7-inch 1080p display. As for camera, you can expect a 21MP shooter at the back and a 5MP front facing camera. Given its flagship placement, expect the battery to be at least 3000mAh.

Overall, the Pro 5 is a powerful handset. With the Hi-Fi chip inside and Hi-Fi headsets, the phone should particularly attract a lot of audiophiles. Pricing is said to be above 3000 Yuan ($470). Since we are just one day away from the official launch, lets wait for more details.

The company CEO, VP and other executives have been teasing the new product, revealing few pieces of information every once in a while. The latest news about the Pro 5 handset comes directly via the company VP, Li Nan, who revealed some information about the phone’s battery life. Battery life have always been one of the important factors that affect buying decision and from the leak, it looks like fans won’t be disappointed with the new Pro 5 handset.

Li Nan posted a few screenshots with the battery usage stats on his official Weibo account yesterday night. We can also see that these images were posted from the Meizu Pro 5 flagship itself. They reveal that the Pro 5 handset managed to run for approximately 16 hours 46 minutes with about 4% of battery left. We are assuming that the 16 hours 46 minutes figure was after a complete charge of the handset. Another screenshot reveals that the Pro 5’s display got around 8 hours of screen time during this period. That’s a pretty impressive figure and it may also mean that the Pro 5 comes with a larger battery. What’s even more interesting is that Li Nan adds that this is not the official Flyme version running and when the official version hits the device, users can expect even better battery life due to optimizations.

Of course, since these screenshots come directly from the company executive, they may be a bit exaggerated. We will have to wait for our official battery life test to judge the real performance of the handset. But anything close to the above figure will be good.

As for the specs, the Meizu Pro 5 handset will reportedly come with a 5.7-inch 1080p display, as confirmed by CEO Bai Yongxiang. Under the hood, there will be the Exynos 7420 chipset with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. At the back, there will be a 21MP camera, while up front, expect a 5MP shooter. The battery is expected to be greater than 3000mAh.

Overall, the Pro 5 is turning out to be a great handset, at least in terms of specs. With Flyme 5 and excellent hardware specs, we expect better user experience than previous flagships. But according to rumors, the phone might cost well above, 3000 Yuan ($471). So, it will be interesting to see, if users are ready to shell out this much money for a Meizu device.

We have been hearing a lot about the device in the past few weeks, thanks to the numerous leaks online. Meizu’s Chief Architect of Flyme OS, Yang Yan also revealed yesterday that the flagship won’t be coming with Flyme 5 OS based on Android 5.1 out of the box. This was disappointing and kind of surprising as well given that Flyme 5 debuts alongside the Pro 5 flagship.

Now, we have received more details about the upcoming Pro 5 device, thanks to the certification at the National 3C Quality Certification Center. According to the listing, the new Meizu flagship will come in two variants, one with the model number M576 and the other with M576U. These two could be the low-end and high-end variants of the new flagship.

While we kind of knew there would be two variants before hand, the listing also reveals that both the models will support fast charging at 12V / 2A. That’s charging at an impressive 24W, which will definitely speed up the overall charging times. The listing only reveals the model number of these two devices, but given that Meizu has an event for the release of Pro 5 next week, its almost likely that these two are the Pro 5 models.

As for the specs, the Meizu Pro 5 flagship is expected to feature a 5.7-inch FHD 1080p display with Samsung Exynos 7420 chipset. Like mentioned above, there will be two variants of the device, 3GB + 16GB and 4GB + 32GB models. At the back, there will be a powerful 21MP camera, while up front expect a 5MP selfie shooter. While the battery size is unknown, at 12V / 2A, you wouldn’t have to wait for more than a hour or two to get it fully charged.

ALSO SEE: ZUK Z1 Charging Analysis

The company VP Li Nan had already revealed some of the renders of the new flagship and they looked similar to the previous generation models.
As for the pricing, the high-end version is expected to cost above 3000 Yuan ($471), while the low-end version could be priced somewhere around 1499 Yuan ($235).

This meant that the Meizu Pro 5 flagship that will debut next week on September 23 will also come with a 1080p display. We have already seen a lot of leaks, renders and bechmark results of the Pro 5 handset, however, we still weren’t quite sure about the phone’s display size.

Now CEO Bai has just made things a lot more clear, by saying that the upcoming flagship will come with a 5.7-inch display with 1080p resolution. According to him, anything more than 4.7-inches will not be comfortable to hold. As a result, it becomes necessary to add optimizations to improve user experience. Meizu Pro 5’s 5.7-inch display size will be ideal with the mBack physical home button at the bottom of the display. The company’s mBack button can reportedly understand how hard the user presses the button. A simple touch will take you one step back, while a harder press will take you to the home.

Now that the display size is also confirmed, we kind of know what to expect from the new Pro 5 flagship. The flagship is expected to come in two variants, one powered by the Exynos 7420 and the lower end variant powered by Helio X20 deca-core chip. There will be 3GB/ 4GB RAM options with 32GB / 64Gb of storage. As for the camera, you can expect a 21MP sensor at the back and a 5MP shooter up front. As for the software, the phone is expected to feature Android 5.1 Lollipop OS based on the new Flyme 5.0 UI. Flyme’s Chief Architect had already released a few screenshots of the new OS, which you can check out from this link here.

The Meizu Pro 5 flagship is expected to be one of the costliest handset from the company till date, with the pricing rumored to be above 3000 Yuan. But the phone is definitely turning out to be impressive. So, it would be interesting to see whether customers are willing to shell out such an amount for a Meizu device.

In the past couple of months, we have seen plenty of instances where the powerful 10 core Helio X20 has come up on benchmarking websites. Unsurprisingly, almost every time, the chip’s performance was impressive. We already know that both Meizu and HTC are likely to use this new chip on their upcoming flagship smartphones, but now, Taiwanese Media reports that even Xiaomi is working on a deca core smartphone. Further, the report states that the first smartphones powered by Helio X20 could debut as early as October 2015.

While Xiaomi may not be the first one to use this deca core chip, it is said that the company has at least one machine with this chip that’s being tested right now. Even Xiaomi is expected to release this new handset sometime before the end of this year. From the previous leaks and the timing of the launch of the new chip, its likely that the report is talking about the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 flagship.

As for the performance of the chip, its expected to be better, or atleast at par with Exynos 7420. The MT6797 Helio X20 chip is based on the 20nm process, with the worlds first Tri-Cluster architecture. The chip will come with 10 cores, with two Cortex A72 and eight Cortex A53 ones. Other specs include support for LTE Cat. 6 network and dual carrier aggregation.

It is said that Meizu’s upcoming flagship, the Meizu Pro 5 will have a low version which will be powered by Helio X20. The higher version is reportedly powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7420. Even Xiaomi Mi5 could have two different versions, with one of them powered by the Helio X20 chip.

So, what do you think? Can Mediatek take over the premium high-end market with its new deca-core Helio X20?

According to the box in the picture, the smartphone was going to be called as the Meizu Pro 5. Now, Meizu’s VP, Li Nan has confirmed the name ‘Pro 5’ by releasing some high-quality images of the box.

The new high-quality images of the Pro 5’s box, confirm the all black design that we saw earlier. Inside, the place where the smartphone lies also kind of confirms the round corners on the device. But its not surprising given that we had already seen some good quality renders of the Pro 5, thanks to the leak by the same VP.

In fact, Li Nan had released the images just a few hours before the official launch of the iPhone 6S, just to avoid any design copy accusations from users. As you can see from the image below, the Meizu Pro 5 flagship seems to continue with the same design philosophy as the MX5.

As for the specs, Meizu CEO Bai Yongxiang had said that the upcoming devices will feature a resolution of 1080p. As for the display size, its expected to be around 5.5-inches. Under the hood, it is said that the phone will come with Exynos 7420 chipset with 3GB / 4GB RAM versions and 32GB/ 64Gb storage options. At the back, you can expect a powerful 21MP shooter and up front, a 5MP camera.

As for the pricing, the company has already said that it is targeted at the premium high-end segment, so it should be greater than 3000 Yuan.

To make thing easier for us to guess, the teaser image came with the words, Meizu Go Pro. So, we knew that the new Meizu device was going to be called as the Pro. But now, thanks to the leaked images of the retail box, the actual name of the handset has been revealed.

While we expected some new name for the premium lineup, it looks like Meizu has decided to keep things simple by calling it the Meizu Pro 5. The leaked box clearly comes with the words ‘Pro 5’ on top, which gave away the name of the upcoming flagship handset. The overall design and packaging of the box is in line with Meizu’s invitation, as a result, its likely that the this is the real deal.

Its really surprising to see that the company would go with such a name. When Li Nan said that they were discontinuing the MX5 lineup, we expected something a lot different, in the name as well as feel. Meizu ME5 was the rumored name going around on the internet for the past few weeks, but it looks like Meizu Pro 5 will be the final name of the handset.

Another reason why the name could be real is because the original source who posted the pictures of the retail box deleted the weibo post immediately. But thanks to the active weibo users, we have those pictures right now.

Anyways, the Pro 5 launch is just a couple of weeks away. Given that we are receiving new information almost every day, we can expect to see a lot more about the Meizu Pro 5 flagship before the official launch.

Anyways, what do you think about the name Meizu Pro 5? Do you like it?
