We are naturally referring to the Meizu Watch and the OPPO Watch, two wearables bundled with very smart features and advanced specifications. OPPO Watch is sold all around the globe, while Meizu Watch is only present in the Chinese market.

If you live in China, you will have a hard time choosing the best among these two smartwatches as they come with very similar specifications and even the same form factor. We hope that this comparison between their specifications can help you by recommending the best wearable for your needs.

Design

As mentioned above, Meizu Watch and OPPO Watch come with the same form factor. Given their square design and their borderless displays, they look very similar to the latest Apple Watch. The OPPO Watch comes in two variants: a smaller 41 mm version which is more recommended for women and a 46 mm which is actually better for men and it also provides a bigger display as well as a longer battery life.

The Meizu Watch only comes in one single version which sits in the middle between OPPO Watch 46 mm and 41 mm. The OPPO Watch is built with a glass front, an aluminum or stainless steel frame depending on the variant, and a ceramic/sapphire or plastic back. With the Meizu Watch, you get a ceramic back and an aluminum frame. Both the smart watches are waterproof, but the OPPO Watch offers better water resistance up to 5 ATM.

Note that the OPPO Watch is slightly thinner than Meizu Watch and it has two physical keys on the side instead of just one. Both the wearable support the eSIM technology which allows using cellular data without having a physical SIM inside and without using the phone’s connection.

Display

OPPO Watch and Meizu Watch come with stunning AMOLED displays showing vibrant colors and very deep blacks. The 46 mm version of the OPPO Watch has a slightly higher resolution and a wider panel with a diagonal of 1.91 inches, as well as complete DCI P3 coverage. The Meizu Watch is more compact than the 46 mm version with its 1.78-inch display, but the display looks inferior. Meizu Watch and the 41 mm of the OPPO Watch are protected by Gorilla Glass, while the 46 mm version has different protection for the glass called Schott Glass. Note that OPPO Watch has a higher screen-to-body ratio, which means narrower bezels around the display.

Specs & Software

The Meizu Watch is equipped with a more recent and powerful SoC: the Snapdragon Wear 4100 is actually a big improvement over the chip found on the OPPO Watch. The OPPO smart watch is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 in the global market and by the even weaker Snapdragon Wear 2500 in the Chinese market. The memory configurations are the same with one gig of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage for music and more.

Both the wearables have a speaker and a microphone for calls and vocal commands. Further, both run a modified version of Android for wearables: the Flyme UI and the ColorOS Watch, respectively. The ColorOS Watch looks a bit more advanced than Flyme at first glance. In the global market, OPPO Watch ditches the ColorOS Watch in favor of Wear OS which includes Google services, apps, and Google Assistant.

Sensors and connectivity

With the Meizu Watch, you actually get more sensors and sport modes than OPPO Watch. It has a SpO2 sensor, unlike its rival, which allows monitoring the blood oxygen level. Further, it features more than 10 sport modes, while the OPPO wearable has just 5 modes you can choose from. For the rest, they look similar if we exclude the user interface. They both feature GPS, an accurate heart rate sensor, WiFi, and Bluetooth 5.2.

Battery

The Meizu Watch and the 46 mm version of the OPPO Watch come with the same battery capacity: 430 mAh. However, the Meizu Watch should last a bit more because its chip is more efficient (it is built at 12 nm instead of the 28 nm of the Snapdragon Wear 3100 and 2500) and the display is smaller (1.78 inches vs 1.91 inches). The 41 mm version of the first OPPO smart watch is a bit disappointing when it comes to battery life and it is not able to compete with the Meizu Watch.

Price

The prices of the Meizu Watch and OPPO Watch 46 mm in China are similar: the former costs about €190/$225 at the actual change, while the latter costs €205/$245. If you live in China, Meizu Watch is a better option because of its better chipset and SpO2 sensor, but for the global market, OPPO Watch is a better choice because it runs Wear OS and includes Google services.

Samsung’s next-gen flagship Exynos chipset is expected to boast some big gains in GPU performance, no thanks to the company’s partnership with AMD. Last week, Samsung revealed the chipset will have a GPU based on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture when it arrives later this year.
Pixel Buds A

The Pixel A series of smartphones is pretty popular, even selling more than the main Pixel line. Now, Google is extending that budget treatment to its earbuds line and it appears it already has a winner. The $99 Pixel Buds A TWS earbuds drop some of the premium features of the Pixel Buds (2) but keep the key ones for a great audio experience.

OnePlus Tag is coming

OnePlus may be making its own smart tracking device based on a recent patent filing. The OnePlus Tag should take on Apple’s AirTag and Samsung’s SmartTag when it eventually launches. We can expect it to be cheaper than what the competitor offers when it hits the market.

The company is also holding a press conference on 31st May in China to launch the device.

Now, the Chinese brand has shared a new teaser on Weibo which reads “Hello, HongMeng!” For those who are unaware, HongMeng OS is the Chinese name of the HarmonyOS from the tech giant Huawei.

This indicates that the Meizu is officially collaborating with Huawei for the new operating system and could be launching devices powered by this HarmonyOS on 31st May.

The devices will be a part of Meizu’s Smart Life and linking the Meizu Lipro Eco products with HarmonyOS will enhance the connectivity as well as improve the user experience. Along with this, the company is also set to launch its smartwatch at the event.

So far, Meizu has confirmed that the smartwatch will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset and will have support for eSIM connectivity, adding the ability to make voice calls.

Recently, it was confirmed that the device will deliver all-day performance by charging it for only 15 minutes. This indicates that a fully charged Meizu Watch would be able to last for several days but the battery capacity has not been revealed yet.

In terms of appearance, the Meizu Watch seems to be inspired by the Apple Watch with a square-shaped display with curved edges and round corners. It was said to be running Flyme OS for Smartwatches with support for third-party apps. There’s a possibility that it may run HarmonyOS with Flyme OS On top.

The development of Meizu partnering with Huawei for HarmonyOS is interesting but not surprising given that the Chinese brand has a history of opening up to third-party operating systems. A few years ago, it had launched the Meizu 5 Pro Ubuntu Edition, which as the name indicates, was running the Ubuntu OS. In 2016, the company had launched the E-series smartphones powered by YunOS, which was developed by Alibaba.

Ahead of the launch, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed some of its key specs and features. Today, the company confirmed that the battery and charging capabilities of the smartwatch.

According to Meizu, the Meizu Watch will deliver all-day performance by charging it for only 15 minutes. This indicates that a fully charged Meizu Watch would be able to last for several days. The Chinese manufacturer is yet to confirm the battery size of the smartwatch.

Usually, the charging base of most smartwatches comes with a wire attached, which makes it harder to carry. Meizu confirmed that the charging base of the Meizu Watch is separated from its charging wire. This means that users simply need to carry the charging cradle and connect any USB-C charge to it and charge the watch.

Meizu Watch

Meizu recently confirmed that the Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset, the latest wearable chip from Qualcomm, will power the Meizu Watch. With support for e-SIM, it can work as a standalone device for making voice calls. The inclusion of e-SIM also means that it will carry support for LTE connectivity.

The appearance of the Meizu Watch seems to be inspired by the Apple Watch. It has a square-shaped display with curved edges and round corners. A recent rumor claimed that it will be running on Meizu’s Flyme OS for smartwatches, which will allow users to install third-party apps.

The Meizu Watch is expected to offer users health and fitness-focused features. It is unclear whether the wearable device is equipped with an NFC chip for making contactless payments. The Meizu Watch is now up for reservations through Meizu Mall and JD.com in China. At present, there is no word on the pricing of the device.

Now, the company has confirmed that the upcoming wearable device from the brand, named Meizu Smartwatch, will be made official in China on 31st May.

The poster of the upcoming Meizu Smartwatch reveals a square-shaped dial for the device, which is in line with the previous leaks. This gives it a look similar to the Apple Watch but details about the screen parameters haven’t been revealed.

From the leaks so far, it has been revealed that the Meizu Smartwatch will come running the Flyme operating system and will also allow users to download and install third-party applications on the device.

It will offer several different types of functions, including playing music, offering activity tracking, mobile payment services, and support for eSIM connectivity, allowing users to make and receive phone calls.

While not yet confirmed, we expect the device to come with support for current-generation features like blood oxygen level monitoring (SpO2), heartbeat tracking, and more. So far, the device’s specifications are not yet known but we expect the company to share more details in the coming days through teasers.

To know more about this upcoming Meizu Smartwatch, including the specifications, features, variants, pricing, and availability details, we will have to wait for the official launch in China in the coming days.

ASUS launches Zenfone 8 series

ASUS announced the Zenfone 8 series last week. Featuring two phones – the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip, ASUS is targeting two different demographics with its new phones. If you want a compact flagship device, the Zenfone 8 is for you and if you want a phone that will turn heads when you try to take a selfie in public, then the Zenfone 8 Flip is the device to go for.

POCO UI is coming

POCO started as a sub-brand of Xiaomi but is now an “independent” brand. Its phones run a slightly tweaked version of MIUI out of the box but that may change soon as the company plans to launch its own UI which will be called POCO UI. It will still be an off-shoot of MIUI but with more features exclusive to POCO devices. POCO has also revealed it has no intention to launch an Android One phone.

A new Redmi Note 8?

The Redmi Note 8 was a pretty popular device, selling more than 10 million units. According to new info that surfaced last week, it appears Redmi plans to launch a new version of the phone with new specs. This new version has been seen at the FCC and is expected to launch as the Redmi Note 8 (2021). It is also expected to have a high refresh rate display, a MediaTek chipset, and a 4000mAh battery.

First look at Google’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

If you didn’t like that Google used the same design for the Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5, then the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro should excite you. We got our first look at the upcoming phones last week and they bring an entirely new design to the Pixel line.

Meizu Watch

We thought Meizu would launch its smartwatch alongside the Meizu 18 series but that didn’t happen. An alleged render of the wearable surfaced a few days ago and it has a familiar design.

The new smart watch arrives with a curved display and a square dial, with its design resembling the Apple Watch.

The news arrives from an online post from known tipster @数码闲聊站 who also shared an image of renders of the Chinese smartphone maker’s smartwatch. Looking at the image shared on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website, we can observe the design of the wearables from the front, the back, and even the side. The leakster also added that the smart watch would arrive with the Flyme operating system and will allow users to download and install third party applications and more.

The blogger further added that the device will also be capable of playing music, offer activity tracking, mobile payment services and ecen support an eSIM to allow for calls. Since it is current generation smartwatch, we can also expect features like blood oxygen monitoring, heartbeat tracking, and more. Unfortunately, the tipster refrained from revealing any specific information regarding the Meizu Watch or any of its internal specifications.

The post claims that this is the official renders of the Meizu Watch and is equipped with a square dial. On the right, we can observe that a single button is mounted on the side along with what appears to be a mic. From the front, the device heavily resembles the Apple Watch. There is not a lot of information to go on as of right now, so stay tuned for more updates.

Reameizu has come across the battery capacities of the Meizu 18 models through the China Quality Certification Center (CQC). It found that the battery with model number BA181 and 3,910mAh capacity may belong to the Meizu 18. The BA191 battery with 4,855mAh capacity could be powering the Meizu 18 Pro.

Meizu is also working on a smartwatch called Meizu Watch. The BA007 battery with 420mAh capacity that has appeared at CQC’s database seemingly belongs to the Meizu Watch. It is unclear whether it will go official along with Meizu 18 models.

The rumor mill is yet to spill accurate information on the specs of the Meizu 18 series. A recent report claimed that the Meizu 18 could be featuring the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, and 64-megapixel +12-megapixel + 5-megapixel triple camera system. Probably, the Meizu 18 Pro could be featuring the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Both models are expected to Samsung E4 AMOLED punch-hole displays that support FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Flyme 9 UI will be succeeding the Flyme 8 UI, which was announced back in August 2019. The Flyme 9 could be based on Android 11 for newer models and Android 10 for older models.

But it seems like that is about to change pretty soon.

A patent application filed by Meizu for a smartwatch has surfaced online with publication number CN306296501S which was filed by the company a few months ago. The abstract shows that the device intends to display time, run programs, and enable users to use communication tools.

The purpose of the patent application is said to be the combination of the shapes and color of the device. While the patent doesn’t reveal much about the smartwatch’s specs and features, it does gives a look at its design.

Recently, a Meizu Smartwatch carrying model number M007W was spotted on Compulsory Certification of China a.k.a. 3C Certificate, which is expected to go official at the Meizu Watch and supports 7.5W charging.

We expect the smartwatch to come with an AMOLED display, heart rate tracking, SpO2 level measurement, and support for tracking various sports. The device is also said to have LTE connectivity support, confirming that it will either have a SIM card slot or support for eSIM. In the software department, it is expected to be running the “Flyme For Watch”, which is a special version of its Flyme OS.

As of now, there’s no information available about the launch of this Meizu Watch. However, we expect the wearable device to soon get launched, in the coming weeks or months

The Meizu Light Smartwatch didn’t get a successor neither did Meizu release any other watch or even a fitness tracker afterward. Almost five years later, the Chinese manufacturer is back with a full-fledged smartwatch that will launch soon as the Meizu Watch. Ahead of the announcement, the watch has been spotted at a Chinese certification agency.

The Meizu Watch was seen on the website of the China Quality Certification Centre which issues the popular Compulsory Certification of China a.k.a. 3C Certificate. The certificate shows that the watch has model number M007W and has support for 7.5W (5V 1.5A) charging.

Image via: Digital Chat Station

It also states that it has LTE support which means it either has a space for a SIM card or has an eSIM. With LTE support, those who pick up the Meizu Watch will be able to make and receive calls without the need o be tethered to a phone. Users will also be able to connect to the internet to use apps and features that require an internet connection.

The Meizu Watch will run “Flyme For Watch”, a special version of its Flyme OS designed for smartwatches when it launches this spring. A poster released for the operating system shows a smartwatch with a square face alongside a larger circle. Our guess is that Meizu may launch both a square-faced watch and one with a round dial.

We expect the smartwatch to have an AMOLED display, heart rate tracking, SpO2 level measurement, and support for tracking various sports.

The Meizu Watch will be announced in China. We do not know if there will be an international release seeing as Meizu is yet to launch a new phone for global markets in more than a year.

According to the well-known Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, MEIZU Watch has entered mass-production. He also disclosed that this wearable would be backed by a 420mAh battery that is being supplied by a Shenzhen-based firm called Guardian.

Additionally, the leaker revealed that Meizu will also be launching a new pair of truly wireless earphones with support for ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). Unfortunately, he did not say anything about when these two products will be announced. Also, it is worth noting that this is the first time we are hearing about Meizu working on a TWS with ANC.

As of now, we are only sure about two things regarding the upcoming MEIZU Watch. First and foremost, it will be powered by Flyme For Watch software, as confirmed by the company itself. However, the base operating system is a mystery. It is not known whether the smartwatch will run Wear OS (Xiaomi Mi Watch), AOSP (OPPO Watch Chinese version), or something else (vivo Watch).

Secondly, the teaser poster that confirmed Flyme for Watch also gave us a hint that this watch will sport a square-shaped display. Apart from these two parameters and the battery capacity, nothing else is known about the MEIZU Watch.

If Meizu is indeed announcing its first actual smartwatch by the end of this year, then we can expect the brand to start teasing it in the coming days on the official Meizu Smartwatch Weibo account.

Note: We are calling this upcoming Meizu wearable as the company’s first proper/actual smartwatch as the firm has already released ‘Meizu Smart Watch Mix’ aka ‘Meizu Light Smartwatch’, a hybrid smartwatch in 2016.

Flyme is the company’s own custom skin for the Android smartphones used on the company’s mobile phones.

Most recently, render of the Meizu smartwatch again surfaced on Weibo showing the back view with the Meizu logo engraved on the back casing. Just like previous leaked images, this render shows the Meizu smartwatch looks no different from the normal mechanical wristwatch. The allege photo reveals the smartwatch would be made of metal and would have leather straps. We’ve had rumors of the smartwatch featuring metal straps, meaning there may likely be more than one variant, one with leather strap an the other with metal straps. There are also control buttons on the side and the entire design shows a compact, portable watch is likely in the works.

Related: Meizu Smartwatch coming soon?
The company’s first teaser of the smartwatch was a sketch of several watch faces and straps which included a chain strap. We believe the straps should be easily replaceable, so you can swap them out depending on the occasion.

We already saw the leather strap on the leaked images of the Meizu smartwatch last week which might be the default strap that comes with it, but we expect that there will be a rubber strap as well.

The metal strap which has the Meizu name on the clasp, will probably be a great choice for formal events; the leather for semi-official occasions, and rubber for sports and everyday use.

The leaked photos alleged to be those of Meizu’s smartwatch reveals what looks like a wonderful design from Meizu. The design adopts a circular pattern, just like the shape of most of the normal wristwatches around but this time around with additional features.

The features the Meizu smartwatch would pack is still unknown but the photos gave us an insight that the smartwatch would likely pop with customised wallpapers, leather straps and there are three controls buttons which would likely be for the features.

Earlier, rumours had it that the Meizu wearable device will come powered by a Rockchip RK6321 SoC with two Cortex A5 cores, which makes it highly probable that the Meizu watch won’t run Android Wear, which strictly employs Qualcomm chips.

There’s the new M3 series, the Pro 6 and the recently launched MX6, so a new phone series is a surprise to us.

If it is indeed a Meizu watch, we guess that means they are trying to beat Xiaomi into releasing a watch first. August 10 is still over a week away, we should get more details before then.

However, that wasn’t a confirmation. But soon after this report, the company’s official account released a new teaser which kind of hinted that the company was all set to launch a brand new smartwatch. Well, there were pictures of watches all over the image, with plastic and metal straps. So, it was almost confirmed that a smartwatch from the company was coming.

Now, a Chinese photographer seems to have received a mystery box from an anonymous source. The box is black in color and we can clearly see the Meizu logo on top. Usually, we would have said that this is probably a new Meizu smartphone, however, considering that the box is square and not rectangular in shape, it is been said that inside, we could see something related to the company’s first smartwatch.

RELATED: First Alleged Xiaomi Smartwatch Design Pops Up online

Given the timing of the teaser and the popping up of this new box, it looks like the company is definitely preparing a brand new smartwatch.

But would Meizu release its watch before Xiaomi? It’s almost confirmed that Xiaomi will release a new smartwatch sometime later this year, so it would be interesting to see whether Meizu beats Xiaomi to the launch of its first watch.

At the time of its launch, the company had hinted that there would be a lot more products in its Blue Charm lineup.

We have already seen two important launches in this lineup, namely the Meizu Blue Charm Note and the Meizu M1. Now, latest leaks suggest that Meizu may unveil yet another product in this series, a brand new smartwatch called as the Meizu Blue Charm Watch.

Like always, the first images of the internals of the watch have come up online. While we can’t really confirm whether this is the real deal, it won’t be surprising to see a growing company try out its luck in the wearable industry. Because, almost every major tech manufacturer has released or at least have plans to release a wearable in the market this year.

The alleged image of the watch reveals a round face which is actually what the consumers prefer these days. Time and again, it has been proved that a round face makes a smartwatch much more attractive than a block rectangular design, which is evident from the popularity of Moto 360 and even LG G Watch R. So, if Meizu does plan to release a smartwatch, it would always be better if its round, rather than square.

Unfortunately, apart from this image, we don’t have any details on the features of the Blue Charm Watch. One interesting thing to note here is that there is a page on Weibo for Meizu Blue Charm Watch. While we don’t know when it was created, there are no posts on the page. Still, the page has about 11000 followers. If the Blue Charm smartwatch is indeed real, we expect an announcement before the end of 2015.

Stay tuned for more updates.

So, do you think Meizu Blue Charm Watch is real?

“Look at your watch. Do you have this type of habit?” this is the meaning of the Chinese message conveyed by the image which has gone viral on the internet. The image has been released by Meizu’s domestic advertising team on Weibo. There is a hand with a wrist watch design on it. Release of such an ad added a flavour to the rumours that Meizu, a leading electronic company of China is a new player in the smartwatch market. The company has established its name in the global market because of its uniqueness. But the image also has some traces of a Meizu Mx3 smartphone. In this way, this ad could be interpreted as sarcasm from Meizu to the current smartwatch revolution. The message could be that you don’t need a smartwatch, you just need a real smartphone like Meizu Mx3.

Some reports suggest that Meizu will follow the footsteps of Google and will announce its own OS for the smartwatch. The keyplayers which are already there in the market of smartwatch are LG, Motorola, Samsung, etc. Google released a list of companies at the time of the announcement of Android Wear, which can make use of the software. The list included HTC, Asus and many more. But Meizu could be a new entrant in the list.

But nothing could be stated clearly until the higher officials of this Chinese giant, Meizu, are ready to comment about the advertisement. People are curious to know about the original story and concept behind the ad.
