Now, in case you don’t know much about the smartphone, the X2 is supposed to be the successor to the Meizu X which was launched in 2016. Meizu went on a rampage in 2016, releasing quite a lot of smartphone models but slowed down the pace in 2017. Thus, the Meizu X2 which was supposed to have been launched in 2017 wasn’t.

Indeed, the Meizu X2 will be launched sometime this year but it remains to be seen if the device will indeed pack a flagship Snapdragon 845 chip. Li Nan is credited to have hinted of the presence of Qualcomm’s latest processor on the X2 but a Meizu employee has come out to clarify on Weibo that the presence f a flagship chip on the premium midrange model is yet to be finalized. Sure, the Chinese company has such plans but it is just a tentative one which we hope is finalized soon. It is unlikely though that the Meizu X2 will come with a flagship chip. This could just be some publicity stunt.

However, the company did not launch the Meizu X2 as a successor phone for it in 2017. Today, Meizu VP Li Nan finally gave out some vital information about the arrival time, specs and pricing of the phone.

The Meizu X had arrived in 2016 with a premium appeal as it featured 2.5 curved glass flanked with double ceramic crystal coating. It also featured impressive specs. Hence, Meizu fans were earnestly waiting for the launch of Meizu X2. Today, Li Nan confirmed that the arrival of the Meizu X2 was delayed and the company is now aiming to launch it at the end of this year.

Li Nan had previously claimed the second-generation Meizu X won’t be a mid-range phone, but it will be packed with flagship specs. Today, he has revealed that the Snapdragon 845 chipset will be powering the Meizu X2 and it will be arriving with a price tag of 2,999 Yuan (~$473).

Meizu has recently launched the Meizu M6S with full screen design. Recent reports have revealed that the upcoming Meizu phones like Meizu E3, Meizu 15, Meizu 15 Lite and Meizu Plus will be also sporting a full screen design. Hence, the Meizu X2 is also pegged to feature an 18:9 aspect ratio display. Early rumors had claimed that the rear panel of the phone may feature a round-shaped secondary display.

He added that the company will be launching Meizu E3 to fill in the void by arriving with high-end specs and affordable pricing. The Meizu E3 is slated to get announced on March 6. It is rumored to be as powerful as Snapdragon 660 powered Smartisan Nuts Pro 2. Rumors have it the forthcoming MediaTek Helio P70 chipset may power the E3 smartphone.

The Chinese company launched the Meizu X around November last year packing an impressive design, Helio P20 chip and 2.5D curved glass among other features. The tech giant should have launched a successor to the well-received smartphone but that didn’t happen up till now.

It is almost certain that we wouldn’t be seeing a successor to the Meizu X this year anymore. However, Meizu’s VP Li Nan may have revealed some details of the second-gen model that would take over from the X. We still don’t know the name of the model but previous leaks had identified it as the Meizu X2. Li Nan is credited to have hinted in a live broadcast that the next generation Meizu X is a flagship model and no longer a midrange phone. He also hinted that there would be a substantial upgrade in the specs and that would take the price up to around 2,499 Yuan. This would place the next-gen Meizu X way higher than its predecessor that started at 1,699 Yuan for the lower model and 1,999 Yuan for the topmost model.

The Meizu VP did not disclose specific details of the Meizu X2’s specifications but the smartphone is expected to keep up with the current full-screen trend. We also expect the device to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor since MediaTek has stopped developing flagship chips. No word yet as to when the device will be launched but we expect it to drop in the first quarter of 2018.

The leaked image suggests that the name of the phone is Meizu X2. The Meizu X2 is speculated to be a successor phone for Meizu X that was launched in November 2016. The display of the phone has thin bezels on its left and right sides. Even the top bezel that houses a selfie camera and the bottom bezel that reportedly features fingerprint reader enabled Home button are quite thin.

The top left corner of the phone features a horizontally arranged dual rear camera which is probably the USP of the phone. It seems to be coupled with a dual-tone LED flash. Hence, the Meizu X2 is speculated to be the first dual camera phone from the company. The Meizu branding is present just above the center of the rear panel. Around a month ago, the rumor mill had revealed alleged images of the first dual rear camera phone. In the below image, a phone that is placed at the center appears somewhat similar to the Meizu X2 phone.

The alleged Meizu X2 also carries information on the key specs of the phone. There is no information on the size of the screen, but the leaked details suggest that it is shielded with a 2.5D curved glass. Like the Meizu X, it may feature a 5.5-inch full HD screen. The phone has a MediaTek Helio X25 SoC under its hood and it features a 3,350 mAh battery that is coupled with 18W fast charger.

The rumored Meizu X2 will be arriving in three versions. There will be two 32 GB RAM variants featuring 3 GB RAM and 4 GB RAM options. These models will be respectively priced at 1,749 Yuan ($253) and 1,899 Yuan ($275). The highest configuration variant of Meizu X2 will be packed with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB storage. It will be costing 1,999 Yuan ($289).

Mediatek announced a new chip yesterday, the Helio P25, an upgrade to last year’s Helio P20 processor. Mediatek is selling the Helio P25 as the right processor for phones with dual-cameras which is one of the selling points they used for the P20.

The new chip is built on the same 16nm process as the Helio P20 and has the same number of cores. So what’s the big difference? Should you be on the lookout for Helio P25 phones and discard your current Helio P20 phone? We’ll advice you shouldn’t.

Chip manufacturers want to make money and in other to do so, they release new chips with small improvements in performance over the old ones.

Take the Snapdragon 820 and Snapdragon 821 processor for example. The Snapdragon 821 is better but only offers a 10% increase in performance over the Snapdragon 820. There is an increase in CPU and GPU clock speed, as well as a Snapdragon VR SDK which makes it compatible with Google Daydream. Though we have seen the latter can be pushed out in form of updates. An example is the ZTE Axon 7 which uses a Snapdragon 820 chip and is Daydream compatible when you upgrade to Nougat.

Helio P20 Description on Official Website

The Helio P25 on the other hand is not a flagship chip but it doesn’t bring much changes either. There is an upgraded CPU clock speed (2.5GHz as against the 2.3GHz in the P20) but there is no upgrade for the GPU. The support for dual-cameras is a feature that they advertised for the Helio P20 but decided not to ‘enable’.

How many manufacturers will embrace the Helio P25 chip? Probably the same ones that used the Helio P20 which are Meizu (Meizu X), Elephone (Elephone P20) and UMI (Umi Plus E). There is a rumor that Meizu will launch a phone called the Meizu S in July which will sport the Helio P25 chip.

One of the major changes you notice about the design of the Meizu X is the position of the rear camera. Meizu has always been fond of placing their rear cameras in the middle of the phone with the LED flash underneath it. The Meizu X is the first phone to deviate from that design in a long time. Its primary camera is situated in the top left corner with the LED flash flanking it on the right.

The Meizu X also ditches the polycarbonate/metal unibody design but instead has a separate metal frame that runs around it which gives it a premium look.

The back plate also appears to have a refractive design like when light passes through glass. And from the looks of it, it seems you can only see it when you are looking at the phone from a certain angle. Meizu has done a good job with the design and they deserve to be commended.

The Meizu X has a 5.5” FHD display, a Helio P20 chip, a 12MP Sony IMX386 camera, a fingerprint scanner, and a 3200mAh battery that supports fast charging. It is available in 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and 4GB + 64GB variants for ¥1699(~$246) and ¥1999 (~$290) respecctively.

The phone comes with a totally different design seen as compared to the previous Meizu devices, which I feel is a welcome change.

We are not yet sure of the name, as ideally, Blue Charm devices have the ‘M’ Prefix and this could end up being called as the Meizu MX. But that would be confusing since there’s already an MX series, so for now, we are calling it the Meizu X.

First up, the Meizu X model comes with 2.5D curved glass with double ceramic crystal coating process. This will make the phone look super premium, especially when it comes in four beautiful colors namely Black, Blue, Gold, and White. Meizu’s devices had started to look more or less the same in the past couple of years, so I feel this design will be welcomed by fans.

The Meizu X comes with a 5.5-inch FHD display from Sharp and uses TDDI display touch technology for better touch accuracy. Further, the phone’s display uses full Incell technology which will make sure that the panel is thin and looks great.

In the hardware department, the Meizu X doesn’t disappoint. As expected, the phone comes with the Helio P20 chipset (MT6757), which will make it the first phone from an established international manufacturer using this processor. The chip is manufactured on a 16nm process and comes with octa-core architecture with max clock speed of 2.3GHz. The chip looks promising as MediaTek has claimed that offers 40% more performance and reduces power consumption by 60%. Further, the phone supports LPDDR4X RAM memory. There’s 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB storage options. As for software, the phone will come with Android 6 with Flyme 5.2 (a future update will upgrade it to Flyme 6). The new Flyme OS is said to come with over 400 feature additions and One Mind AI Engine.

The phone comes with a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor at the back with f/2.0 aperture, 6P lens, and PDAF. The company is also using the new ArcSoft beauty algorithm for better camera quality. Clearly, this is a level up for the camera in the budget Blue Charm series. Up front, there is a 5MP shooter.

There’s a fingerprint sensor up front as well, which unlocks in 0.2s and supports payment platforms like Alipay and WeChat Pay. The battery onboard is decent, measuring 3200mAh and comes with mCharge which fills up the juice up to 40% in 30 minutes, thanks to 18W charging. With the efficient chip on board, the company claims that the phone will last more than a day easily.

While the Meizu X is billed for release on November 30, the Meizu M5 Note has got a December 6 launch date. However, a relatively unknown Meizu M3X (not MX3) has appeared on Geekbench database and it was uploaded just yesterday.

The device is listed as packing an MT6757 chip which is the MediaTek Helio P20 chipset and it is clocked at 1.64GHz. The device also features 3GB of RAM and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS which would likely be tweaked with the latest Flyme 6 UI. On the Geekbench test score, the device manages a single core score of 851 points, and on the multi-core test it polled a total of 3896 points.

This specs line-up is similar to the rumored ones of the expected Meizu X but the name just don’t tally. The name sometimes listed on the benchmark database might be incorrect, so the device may end up coming with another name different from Meizu M3X. Although Meizu Blue charm smartphones are named in this pattern, there is already an MX3 so confusion might arise. The phone might end up being called M5X but even at that, there is also an MX5 from last year so that would be confusing as well. It’s a day away from being official so we’ll wait to see how this pans out.

This is in reference to the release of a new Flyme 6 operating system. The new user interface would probably be pre-installed on the Meizu X which would be announced same day.

Now, images of the Flyme 6 user interface have leaked online revealing the refreshing looks of the new operating system which would likely be based on Android Marshmallow. The images shows the Flyme 6 would bring an entirely different visual experience. There is a change in the looks of the status bar and it now looks similar to that of Apple’s iOS 10. The music player and voice assistant interfaces are also shown to have gotten new looks.

The images are just two, so its likely the Flyme 6 would adopt an entirely different look in many aspects. We’d get to see that when the OS is unveiled.

Images of the schedule surfaced on Weibo and they specifically featured products launched in the past months in their correct order including the upcoming Meizu X. Meizu has been habitually releasing smartphones almost every month this year so its no surprise if actually there is a time-table.

The Meizu M5 Note has featured in several leaks and appeared on benchmarks. The device was thought to launch alongside the Meizu X on November 30 but that isn’t likely going to happen. The device may now be launched in December, if the schedule is to be believed. Although no specific date is ascribed to the launch, it may likely be launched before the 12.12 sales. Unfortunately, there is no indication that we’d be seeing a Meizu tablet anytime this year.

As a recap, the M5 Note would come sporting a 5.5-inch 1080pixels display, packing a MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755M) processor along with the Mali-T860 GPU. The processor is supported by 3GB of RAM as well as 32GB of internal storage. The device is also listed as running Android Marshmallow 6.0 out-of-the-box. The M5 Note will also sport a 13MP rear camera as well as a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies.

The front view render does nothing to assuage our earlier postulation that the device looks like the Honor 8. That resemblance is both on the front and rear aspects.

The render reveals a sleek device with a beautiful, yet simple design. The body is likely made of glass on top of a metal body frame. There is a physical home button front which looks like a virtual button. We earlier saw a rear mounted fingerprint sensor on the back render so it is not known if there will still be a front fingerprint sensor embedded with the home button. There are other capacitive keys at the side of the device, perhaps the volume controls and the power button.

The Meizu X would drop next week Wednesday (November 30) equipped with a powerful MediaTek Helio X20 chipset said to be about 20% faster than the Helio P10. We have already seen a test carried out by a Meizu engineer which reveals the device is capable of withstanding hardcore gaming for a longtime and still not get very hot.The processor will be backed by a large 4GB/6GB RAM and the device is said to also feature LTE Cat. 6 baseband with download speed of up to 300Mbps as well as dual-carrier aggregation.

The device is rumored to be available in 2 variants, a 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant that costs 1799 yuan ($260) and a 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant that costs 1999 yuan ($289). We are not sure about that but if it turns out to be true, those are decent price tags for such a sleek device.

The unique feature of the phone is its Helio P20 processor but that doesn’t seem to be the only thing going for it, as a leaked image of the phone shows that Meizu has also paid attention to its design.

The image was posted on Weibo today and we are shocked to see that the Meizu X sports dual cameras and a rear positioned fingerprint scanner. Those who can easily spot similarities between phones will be quick to notice that it looks so much like the Honor 8.

Left to me, that’s not a bad thing. Quite a number of manufacturers copy each other’s designs and Huawei isn’t left out.

A Meizu official decided to carry out a temperature test on the phone to see how hot it gets when playing games.

The results of the test were posted on Weibo by the engineer who goes by the username @dengdeng. Although its hard to make out the name of the game played during the test, thermal images show that the highest temperature recorded during the hour-long gaming session was just 37.6°C and the lowest temperature recorded was 27°c.

There is a chance the temperature might be even lower since the test was carried out at Guangzhou which is a bit warm at this time of the year.

The Meizu X is expected to be a bit more expensive as there is a high demand for the Helio P20 chip. Sources say it will be available in 2 variants: a 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant that costs 1799 yuan ($260) and a 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant that costs 1999 yuan ($289).

Now, new images of the Meizu Pro 7 have popped up online reminding us of the device and revealing the possibility of the device launching alongside the Meizu X on November 30.

The Meizu Pro 7 is said to feature a curved display and that is likely to be on one version of the device because earlier rumor also hint at the existence of a flat screen version. We had earlier seen renders of the curved display but these renders also show the device from the back view. The Meizu Pro 7 features a unique ring flash at the rear, circling round the 12MP rear camera.

The Pro 7 is also rumored as coming in two versions with one sporting a 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM as well as a high-end versiom with 6GB RAM + 64GB of storage. There is a large 3,500mAh inside the device said to feature wireless charging.

The Meizu X is confirmed to launch on November 30 just as it is almost confirmed to pack a Helio P20 chip as well as run on Flyme 6.0 OS. Perhaps Meizu will confirm via another teaser, the launch of the Pro 7 or the X may even just be the Pro 7. We can’t be so sure about that, so we’ll wait till then.

This time around, the press invite contains another teaser and is captioned, “Make 6 Great Again” perhaps referring to its next Flyme 6 OS. This is coming on the heels of the “Make Helio Great Again” campaign first feature in its earlier press invite. We had also seen a teaser that suggested the Meizu X is th main smartphone for release on that day.

The latest “Make 6 Great Again” campaign likely points to the release of a new Flyme 6 operating system on that day, and probably pre-installed on the Meizu X. Recall that the Meizu X is said to be powered by a MediaTek Helio P20 chipset hence the “Make Helio Great again” mantra.

Fitting all the pieces together probably give us an idea of some key features of the mysterious Meizu X which include Helio P20 chip and Flyme 6 OS. The new Flyme 6 OS is said to be likely based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. We don’t know for sure, so we’ll wait till November 30 when all the packages would be unveiled.

Recently, a couple of images showing off the box of the Meizu X popped up on the social networking website Weibo, revealing the name of the device. The leakster further said that this particular model will be announced on November 30.

Further, a screenshot has also popped up online, which shows Meizu’s VP, Li Nan kind of confirming the name of the upcoming device — Meizu X, adding that more details will be announced tomorrow.

Given that this will be a new product lineup, we can expect some great specs on board. The tagline “Make Helio Great Again” on the invite confirms that the phone will be using a new Helio chipset and there are two possible options, the Helio P20 and the Helio X30. It’s too early for Helio X30 to release in the market, which means, the Meizu X should most likely feature Helio P20 chipset.

To recap, the Helio P20 features 8 x Cortex A53 cores clocked up to 2.3GHz with Mali-T880MP2 GPU and Cat.6 LTE support with dual-carrier aggregation. Performance wise, don’t expect too much improvement, but efficiency should be better since it is built on 16nm process as compared to Helio x20’s 20nm manufacturing node.

There is the Meizu M5 set for an October 31 launch and the Pro 6s whose release date is still unknown. However, earlier today the company teased the release of a new product with a poster on Weibo.

The image which has X written across a monochrome background with a tagline that translates to ”unknown” leaves us with an unknown number of guesses as this can as well be anything.

Some people think the Meizu X is a new pair of headphones, others think it is Meizu’s first foray into VR glasses. I think the Meizu X is probably their new set-top box which received its 3C certification recently and will launch with Meizu’s Flyme for TV OS.

Sources say the new product may launch on October 31 alongside the M5. But until we get more details, we will only keep speculating.
