Meta and Ray-Ban have launched the second generation of their AI-powered smart glasses in India. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses are now available through Ray-Ban India and authorized retailers, with prices starting at ₹39,900 ($444) and going up to ₹45,700 ($508) depending on the frame and lens combination.

Specifications

The new model features a 12MP ultra-wide camera capable of recording 3K Ultra HD video for up to three minutes. Meta has improved image quality with ultrawide HDR and plans to roll out new camera modes like slow motion and hyperlapse through future software updates.

Meta has also upgraded the audio system. The Gen 2 glasses use a five-micro speaker setup that offers louder sound, deeper bass, and better directional audio. The touchpad and capture button support tap-based controls for music playback, photo capture, and messaging.

Battery life now lasts up to 8 hours on a single charge. The included charging case provides an additional 48 hours of power. Fast charging allows users to reach 50% charge in just 20 minutes. Meta says the glasses also support up to 5.4 hours of voice calls and 5 hours of music playback.

The Meta AI assistant now supports full Hindi voice functionality, which users can initiate by saying “Hey Meta.” This allows the assistant to handle commands for actions like snapping photos, dispatching messages, and regulating music. The assistant can now speak using Deepika Padukone’s AI-generated voice, which joins Meta’s global lineup of celebrity voices.

Meta is also set to introduce support for UPI Lite payments in India. This feature will allow users to scan QR codes using the glasses and finalize transactions through WhatsApp-linked bank accounts.

The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 collection includes updated versions of the Wayfarer, Headliner, and Skyler styles. Seasonal colors such as Shiny Cosmic Blue and Mystic Violet are also available.

Meta has introduced a new research-stage tool called WorldGen that can create fully interactive 3D environments from a single line of text. The system can generate immersive, navigable virtual scenes in around five minutes. Meta said the content can be exported directly to popular game engines like Unity and Unreal without any conversion.

WorldGen combines several AI techniques, including procedural logic, diffusion-based 3D generation, and object-oriented scene decomposition. The output includes not only visual elements but also a complete navigation mesh, allowing characters to move through the environment without issues such as blocked paths or missing physics.

The system uses a four-stage pipeline. It starts with a layout plan created by a large language model. Then it reconstructs the scene geometry while ensuring walkable areas stay unobstructed. In the third step, it breaks down the scene into individual objects using a method called AutoPartGen. Finally, it adds high-resolution textures and final geometry polish to improve visual quality up close.

Meta said WorldGen solves common problems with earlier AI-generated 3D scenes. Many of those scenes focus on visual fidelity but lack collision data or physics support. WorldGen outputs mesh-based scenes with built-in functionality for simulation and gameplay use.

The current version supports environments up to 50×50 meters. Meta plans to expand this in future updates. The system does not reuse objects yet, which may affect performance in larger worlds. Despite that, Meta believes WorldGen will help teams save time in prototyping stages.

The company emphasized that WorldGen is still in development and not available to developers yet. However, it sees potential for the system to assist in game development, training simulations, and digital twin design by reducing the manual labor needed to create usable 3D environments.

The latest update introduces a version of WhatsApp that essentially opens web.whatsapp.com through WebView2. This marks a return to a browser-like approach after years of work on the native WinUI/UWP client.

Early testing suggests that the new version consumes far more system memory compared to the previous app. On the login screen alone, memory usage reportedly reaches around 300MB, with background processes tied to the Chromium framework running at all times. Once logged in, users may see RAM usage rise above 1GB and potentially climb higher when handling multiple active chats.

The report adds that performance has taken a noticeable hit. Navigating conversations appears slower, and animations and transitions feel less responsive. The new app also struggles with Windows 11-specific behaviours, including notification handling and Do Not Disturb mode. These issues, combined with heavier system resource demands, make the updated client feel less integrated with the operating system.

According to the report, this change is likely connected to internal restructuring at Meta, which may have resulted in the native app team being downsized. By maintaining a single web-based codebase, Meta reduces development overhead, but the user-facing impact is substantial.

The new build is rolling out as version 2.2584.3.0 through the Microsoft Store. Those who still have the previous native client installed may temporarily avoid upgrading, though the report claims that all users will eventually be logged out and required to move to the new version.

Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses turned out to be a surprise hit — a product no one really expected. Today, the company unveiled a new generation of smart glasses, and they might just be the most ambitious pair of AI glasses yet.

The latest model is called the Meta Ray-Ban Display, and as the name suggests, the big addition is a built-in display. The glasses themselves are chunkier than the original Ray-Bans and come paired with a wrist-worn “Neural Band,” but the trade-off seems worth it once you see what they can do.

Meta Ray-Ban Display fixes the biggest flaws of smart eyewear

The display lives on the right lens, a 600 x 600 panel that auto-adjusts its brightness based on ambient light. It can surface Meta AI, turn-by-turn maps, or even WhatsApp replies. The early hands-on impressions I’ve seen from a bunch of creators all praise them for their brightness, which is enough to hold up outdoors.

The more surprising part is how discreet it all feels. From the outside, the lenses remain transparent; there’s no obvious glow or screen bleeding through. The display is visible only to the wearer, a neat trick that sidesteps one of the biggest drawbacks of previous attempts at AR glasses.

Interacting with the display doesn’t mean fumbling with touch controls either. Instead, the Neural Band picks up muscle signals from your hand. You can “write” replies in the air (literally), use gestures to scroll, click, or call up Meta AI with hand gestures. And no, you don’t need your hands in sight of the glasses. 

As for the battery life, the Neural Band runs for up to 18 hours and is IPX7 water-resistant, while the glasses themselves last about six hours of mixed use. Together with the folding charging case, you can stretch that to 30 hours. The case is foldable, so you can slip it into a pocket without much trouble.

It’s surprising to see Meta address so many of the usual drawbacks of AI glasses right out of the gate. The display is private, the controls feel sorted, and the lenses are photochromatic, meaning they automatically darken outdoors, for that stylish look. 

On top of that, you still get the core Ray-Ban features like a built-in camera, speakers, and a microphone. The next challenge for Meta will be slimming down the design to make the glasses look sleeker in future iterations.

Meta Ray-Ban Display Price and Availability

The Meta Ray-Ban Display will launch on September 30th for $799, which includes both the glasses and the Neural Band. At first, they’ll be sold only in the US at select retail locations, including Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, Ray-Ban stores, and eventually some Verizon outlets. 

Customers will also be able to try the glasses in demos before buying. Canada, France, the UK, and Italy are expected to follow in early 2026.

Meta has revealed full details of the Aria Gen 2 research glasses, the follow-up to the original Aria Gen 1 from 2020. The new version brings major improvements in cameras, sensors, wearability, and on-device processing. Aria Gen 2 is designed for researchers working in machine perception, robotics, and contextual AI.

Design and Fit

Aria Gen 2 is lightweight at 74 to 76 grams and now includes folding arms for easier storage. It comes in eight size options to fit different face shapes and head sizes.

Camera Upgrades

The glasses now have four computer vision cameras, up from two in Gen 1. These use a global shutter sensor with 120 dB HDR (compared to 70 dB in Gen 1), which improves performance in bright and low-light conditions. The stereo overlap has been increased from 35° to 80° to improve depth perception and 3D tracking.

Sensor Additions

A calibrated ambient light sensor (ALS) with ultraviolet detection improves exposure control. A contact microphone built into the nosepad captures clearer audio in noisy environments. A photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor also in the nosepad estimates the user’s heart rate.

Time Sync

Aria Gen 2 includes SubGHz radio for sub-millisecond time sync between devices, replacing the software-based method used in Gen 1.

On-Device Machine Perception

A custom Meta coprocessor runs machine perception algorithms directly on the device. Key features include:

• Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO): Tracks movement in six degrees of freedom
• Eye Tracking: Monitors gaze, blink, pupil diameter, and more
• Hand Tracking: Tracks full 3D hand movement and joint positions

Availability

Applications for Aria Gen 2 will open later this year. Aria Gen 1 kits are still available. Meta will demo Aria Gen 2 at CVPR 2025 in Nashville this June.

The report claims that Apple CEO Tim Cook has made the development of AR glasses his top product priority. A source close to the matter told Bloomberg: “Tim cares about nothing else. It’s the only thing he’s really spending his time on from a product development standpoint.”

Unlike the Vision Pro, which launched at $3,499 and targets a niche audience, Apple’s AR glasses are expected to be more accessible in both form and function. The device is still in early development stages, with significant hurdles including miniaturization, battery efficiency, and keeping the device consumer-friendly in terms of pricing.

When will it launch?

There’s no confirmed timeline for Apple’s AR glasses just yet, but reports suggest the product could still be several years away. Apple is believed to be targeting a release ahead of Meta’s Orion AR glasses, which currently cost around $10,000 per prototype and are expected to be commercialized before 2030.

These in-house processors could be unveiled as early as this summer, as per industry sources close to the matter.

This news also arrives a month after Softbank (Arm’s parent company), entered into a partnership with OpenAI to build up to $500 billion worth of AI infrastructure. This massive project would also involve Arm along with Microsoft and even Nvidia as key technology partners. Arm could be playing a massive role in this, and even have ties with AI powered personal devices being developed by John Ive (Apple’s former designer) and OpenAI’s Sam Altman.

Meta’s AI research team is getting closer to decoding human thoughts. The company, in collaboration with the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain, and Language, has developed an AI model capable of reconstructing sentences from brain activity with up to 80% accuracy. 

The research relies on a non-invasive brain recording method and, according to the company, could pave the way for technology that helps people who have lost the ability to speak.

How It Works

Unlike existing brain-computer interfaces that often require invasive implants, Meta’s approach uses magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG). 

These techniques measure brain activity without surgery. The AI model was trained on brain recordings from 35 volunteers as they typed sentences. When tested on new sentences, Meta claims it can accurately predict up to 80% of the characters typed using MEG data—at least twice as effective as EEG-based decoding.

This method still has limitations. MEG requires a magnetically shielded room, and participants must remain still for accurate readings. The technology has also only been tested on healthy individuals, so its effectiveness for those with brain injuries remains uncertain.

AI Is Also Mapping How We Form Words

Beyond decoding thoughts into text, Meta’s AI is also helping researchers understand how the brain turns ideas into language. The AI model analyzes MEG recordings, tracking brain activity at a millisecond level. It reveals how the brain transforms abstract thoughts into words, syllables, and even individual finger movements when typing.

A key finding is that the brain uses a ‘dynamic neural code’—a mechanism that chains together different stages of language formation while keeping past information accessible. This could explain how people seamlessly structure sentences while speaking or typing.

Meta’s research reaffirms that AI could one day enable non-invasive brain-computer interfaces for people who can’t communicate verbally. But for now, the technology isn’t ready for real-world use. Decoding accuracy needs improvement, and MEG’s hardware limitations make it impractical outside lab settings.

Meta is investing in partnerships to advance this research. The company has announced a $2.2 million donation to the Rothschild Foundation Hospital to support ongoing studies. It’s also working with institutions like NeuroSpin, Inria, and CNRS in Europe.

Back in early 2024, the company even partnered up with Ray-Ban to release the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Version 2.0 (internally dubbed Supernova). Now, it seems like a Supernova 2 model is also being developed, which is the successor to this collab. The new report adds that the existing models will be introduced in new markets as well.

While an exact launch date is still unclear, Gurman claims that Meta has plans to launch its true AR headset, which carries the Orion codename, as early as 2027. The company might soon collaborate with other major brands like the Luxottica Group. Ever suddenly come across an advertisement for something you were just talking about? Well, we could never be sure if our phones were listening to us until one of Facebook’s advertising partners confirmed the existence of ‘Active Listening.’

According to a report from 404 Media, “Active Listening” is a software that uses an artificial intelligence model to “capture real-time intent data by listening to our conversations”. Leaked documents cite a pitch deck from Cox Media Group (CMG), which is a TV and radio giant that is one of Facebook’s alleged marketing partners. “Advertisers can pair this voice data with behavioral data to target in-market consumers,” the deck continues.

Aside from Facebook, Google and Amazon also adopt the same practices and are clients of CMG’s Active Listening service. Upon being reached out by 404 Media for a comment on the partnership, Google reportedly removed CMG from its “Partners Program.”

Companies deny using ‘Active Listening’ technology

A Meta spokesperson also informed that CMG was a general partner, not a partner in the program advertised in the deck. “Meta does not use your phone’s microphone for ads and we’ve been public about this for years,” he noted. “We are reaching out to CMG to get them to clarify that their program is not based on Meta data.”

An Amazon spokesperson also noted that they have never worked with CMG for ads and have no plans to do it in the future.

This isn’t the first time though where 404 Media has reported on CMG’s shady voice targeting service. In December last year, 404 Media not only put a marketing company on blast for boasting about such creepy tech on its podcast but also talked about the Active Listening functionality.

“We know what you’re thinking. Is this even legal?” noted a blog post from CMG from November last year. “It is legal for phones and devices to listen to you. When a new app download or update prompts consumers with a multi-page term of use agreement somewhere in the fine print, Active Listening is often included.”

CMG revealed that it can identify users who are “ready-to-buy” and create targeted ad lists based on their interests.

Meta‘s patent abstract notes that it is a method for updating a subject avatar with a facial expression collected in real-time. The method includes receiving, from a sensor on the facial interface of a headset, a signal indicative of a movement in a facial muscle from a user of the headset. The process involves determining the facial expression of the user with the signal from the sensor in the facial interface of the headset, based on a machine learning algorithm trained to associate the facial expression with the movement of the facial muscle.

Then it adjusts a subject avatar for the user of the headset based on the facial expression and provides the subject avatar to an immersive reality application hosted by a remote server.

The headset will reportedly include various sensors such as ECG, EEG, and PPG sensors to assess the cardiovascular conditions of a user.

One of the limitations of VR headsets like the Meta Quest 3 or the Apple Vision Pro is that the wearer becomes disconnected (sort of) from the real world. According to Apple, they developed EyeSight to maintain the connection of the wearers with the real world.

While it’s common for companies to take inspiration from the developments and achievements of their competitors, the jaw-dropping aspect of the whole development is that it emerged only a couple of months after Zuckerburg himself claimed that its Quest headset stands tall against the Vision Pro in a variety of aspects.

The leak arrives from Redditor u/LuffySanKira (Via @Lunayian) who shared the images of what appear to be screenshots of a Meta User Research Zoom meeting. These images offer us a look at the graphics of the upcoming affordable VR headset. The Zoom meeting showcases the Meta Quest 3s alongside the Meta Quest 3. Some specifications of the Meta Quest 3s have also been revealed in these screenshots that further suggest that it is the rumored Meta Quest 3 Lite.

For those unaware, the Quest 3 Lite is expected to be a cut down version of the Quest 3, which will arrive with a cheaper price tag. The Quest 3s seen in this leak features a 1920 x 1832 resolution with 20 PPD (Pixels Per Degree) and 256GB of internal storage. This is lower than the Quest 3’s 2208 x 2064 resolution with 25.5 PPD and 512GB of internal storage.

We also get a look at the Meta Quest 3s right next to the base Quest 3. It appears to be slightly smaller in terms of overall size. Although, the main difference between the two is the key sensors on the front. While the Quest 3 has three oval cutouts for the sensors, the Quest 3s has six cutouts (three on either side) stacked together. Unfortunately, the leak cannot be verified at the moment, so stick around for more updates.

Debts of Google, Meta and Tiktok Removed from Russian Database!

The fines imposed by Russian courts on Google, YouTube, Meta, TikTok, and Telegram seem to have been resolved as these companies are no longer listed as debtors in the government enforcement officers’ database. Interestingly, despite this development, data accessed by Reuters on Wednesday still shows X (formerly known as Twitter) and Twitch with fines of 51 million rubles ($560,730) and 23 million rubles ($252,879), respectively.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, conflicts intensified with foreign tech companies on various issues, primarily related to the illegal content and non-local storage of user data, resulting in eventual fines. Post-invasion, Twitter and Meta’s Facebook and Instagram were blocked, while Google’s YouTube faced numerous legal challenges. In late 2023, a Russian court had imposed a fine of 4.6 billion rubles ($50.4 million), calculated as a portion of Google’s annual revenue in Russia.

Meta, labeled “extremist” in 2022, also faced fines proportionate to its income in Russia. As of today, according to the identified database, these companies do not have any debts to Russia.
