Last month, Xiaomi confirmed that the HyperOS update would arrive for the Mi 10 series in April. As promised, Xiaomi has now begun rolling out the update to all devices in the series, including the Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and Mi 10 Ultra.

However, the update doesn’t feature the latest Android 14 but instead runs on Android 13. For the Mi 10, the update bears the firmware version 1.0.3.0.TJACNXM and has an installation package size of 4.1GB. 

The updates for the Mi 11 Pro and Ultra come with firmware versions 1.0.3.0.TJACNXM/1.0.2.0.TJJCNXM and weigh in at 4.2GB. Additionally, the update includes the March security patch.

To get the latest firmware, users can navigate to Device Settings > About > Software Update > Check for Update. The Xiaomi Mi 10 series from 2020 will get HyperOS update. This piece of information was recently revealed by Zhang Guoquan, director of Xioami’s mobile system software department.

As per the executive, the update will arrive in April. Although he does not specify, the initial release should be limited to beta testers.

The users of the Xiaomi Mi 10 series are some of the luckiest. These devices, namely Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and Mi 10 Ultra were not part of Xiaomi’s 2021 software policy, which promises 3 Android updates.

Despite that, the aforementioned smartphones received their third Android update (Android 13) last year along with MIUI 14. For the unaware, they were released with Android 10.

Now, according to a company official, the Mi 10 and the Mi 10 Pro, which were introduced with MIUI 11, will be treated to their fourth major software in the form of HyperOS. The same update will be the third major one for Mi 10 Ultra as it was launched with MIUI 12.

However, the HyperOS update for the Mi 10 series may not bring Android 14. Because HyperOS for older phones is based on Android 13.

Earlier this month, the head of MIUI confirmed that MIUI 14 will be released for the Mi 10 series. Now, a little over a week after the announcement of the latest software, the executive reveals more details.

He not only hints at the devices that will be receiving the update but also shares a rough timeline for the rollout. Most importantly, he confirms the Android upgrade. Let’s go through his statement.

Earlier today, Zhang Guoquan, director of Xiaomi‘s System Software Department, answered multiple frequently asked questions on MIUI 14. One of these answers provides more details on the availability of the newest MIUI for the Mi 10 series.

The executive says that the MIUI 14 update for the Mi 10 series will be based on Android 13. We previously thought that Xiaomi may release the latest MIUI with Android 12 for these phones.

But unfortunately, this update will be only available for devices powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 platform. This means only Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and Mi 10 Ultra will get access to MIUI 13 based on Android 13.

Thus, the aforementioned smartphones will be receiving their third Android update though they don’t come under the new software update policy introduced by Xiaomi for select devices last year.

As far as the rollout is concerned, the executive suggests that there could be some delay due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in China. However, he believes that the update should arrive by March 2023.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t talk about the availability of the MIUI 14 update for the remaining two Mi 10 series devices, namely Mi 10 Lite and Mi 10 Lite Zoom. Hence, these phones may not get the update. Even if they receive it, the software will be likely based on Android 12.

Xiaomi was supposed to unveil MIUI 14 alongside the Xiaomi 13 series last week. The launch conference still remains postponed with no new date.

However, details about these unreleased products continue to emerge on the internet. A few days back, one of the company executives confirmed MIUI 14 support for certain old smartphones.

Zhang Guoquan is the director of Xiaomi‘s System Software Department. On November 28, while replying to a Weibo comment, the exec confirmed the availability of the MIUI 14 update for the Mi 10 series.

Unfortunately, he did not clarify the exact models. But did mention that the update will arrive later.

For the unaware, the Mi 10 series originally includes five phones, namely Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10 Lite, Mi 10 Lite Zoom, and Mi 10 Ultra. Going by the subsequent comments, the exec is most likely talking about the Mi 10 and the Mi 10 Pro but the others might also receive the update.

All of these handsets were released in 2020 with Android 10 onboard. The Mi 10 Ultra debuted with MIUI 12, while the remaining models shipped with MIUI 11.

Over the last two years, these devices were updated to Android 11 and Android 12. They also received multiple MIUI updates, such as MIUI 12.5, MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition, and MIUI 13.

Therefore, MIUI 14 will be the third major software update for these smartphones, except for Mi 10 Ultra. Unfortunately, we don’t think they will get an upgrade to Android 13 as they don’t fall under the latest update policy introduced for the newer models.

MIUI 13 is currently the newest version of Xiaomi’s mobile operating system. The company has been rolling it out to eligible devices since January. The latest smartphones to receive it are Mi 10 Ultra, Redmi Note 10 5G, and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G.

Xiaomi has started seeding MIUI 13 update based on Android 12 for the following handsets in its home country China.

• Mi 10 Ultra – V13.0.1.0.SJJCNXM
• Redmi Note 10 5G – V13.0.3.0.SKSCNXM
• Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G – V13.0.3.0.SJSCNXM

Like any other OTA software update, this update is also being rolled out in batches. Hence, some units may receive it earlier, while others will take time.

Further, apart from Mi 10 Ultra, the other two phones made their way outside China. The Redmi Note 10 5G goes by the name of Redmi Note 10T 5G in international markets. At the same time, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G is known as Mi 10i 5G and Mi 10T Lite 5G.

These non-Chinese versions of the aforementioned smartphones should also get access to the Android 12-baed MIUI 13 update in the near future. We can expect the rollout to finish for all the variants in a month or two.

A few hours back, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 11i and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge in India. Both these phones are nothing but rebadged Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro+ respectively. At the end of the pre-recorded live stream, the company teased the arrival of yet another 120W fast-charging smartphone.

During his closing speech, Manu Janu, Managing Director of Xiaomi India revealed that the Xiaomi 11i series launch was just ‘part one of the HyperCharge Revolution’. He added that something else is also coming soon.

The stream later ended by showing a cryptic message, followed by a teaser poster saying ‘THE HYPERPHONE COMING SOON’.

Xiaomi only has a few 120W fast charging smartphones other than the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ (aka Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge). They are Mi 10 Ultra, Xiaomi MIX 4, Xiaomi 11T Pro, and Xiaomi 12 Pro. Out of these, the former two models have no chance of releasing in India.

That’s because the firm had already confirmed that they will remain exclusive to mainland China. Hence, the only device that could be the so-called HyperPhone could be any of the latter two.

It’s most likely Xiaomi is teasing the Xiaomi 11T Pro here. We are saying this because if it was indeed Xiaomi 12 Pro, then the company wouldn’t be focussing on its fast charging capability.

Google has been rolling out Android 12 Beta builds for Pixels since May. Many partner OEMs have also released beta builds for some of their handsets. However, most of the software builds by partner OEMs are pure AOSP with some additions. But we all know that the final public release for these phones will come with the respective company’s Android skin. Hence, it is not surprising to learn that Xiaomi has started testing MIUI based on Android 12.

Xiaomi is part of the Android 12 Beta program. The company has released Android 12 Beta for four devices, namely Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11, Mi 11X Pro, and Mi 11i. Now, the firm has begun to test MIUI based on the latest version of Android for some of its phones.

According to Xiaomiui (via PiunikaWeb), Xiaomi has started testing Android 12-based MIUI builds for the following smartphones.

• Mi 11 Ultra
• Mi 11 Pro
• Mi 10 Ultra
• Mi 10 Pro
• Mi 10
• Mi 10T Pro
• Mi 10T
• Redmi K30S Ultra

The firm started testing the upcoming version of Android with MIUI for the Mi 11 Ultra and the Mi 11 Pro last month itself. Anyway, the tests for the remaining handsets began only recently.

Unfortunately, it’s not known whether Xiaomi is working on Android 12 with MIUI 12.5 or MIUI 13. Hopefully, it’s the latter as users can get the next iteration of MIUI as well as Android together.

Xiaomi unveiled MIUI 12.5 at the Mi 11 China launch event in late December 2020. It is a minor upgrade over MIUI 12. Since that conference, the company has been seeding weekly beta builds for the eligible devices in its home country. Now, three months after the announcement, the Mi 10 Ultra has become the first smartphone to get MIUI 12.5 stable update.

The Mi 10 Ultra is Xiaomi’s 10th-anniversary special smartphone. This handset is sold exclusively in China. Hence, it has a single branch of MIUI build (MIUI China).

The phone debuted with MIUI 12 based on Android 10. It was later updated to Android 11. And now, the device has even started receiving the MIUI 12.5 update. In fact, as mentioned in the beginning, it is the first smartphone to receive MIUI 12.5 stable update.

That said, the latest system update for the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra comes with build number V12.5.1.0.RJJCNXM. Since this software build is currently in the Stable Beta phase, it is only available for a select few users. If there’s no issue with this build, then it should be rolled out to all the users in the coming days.

As far as new features are concerned, MIUI 12.5 brings optimizations for system animations, improved haptic feedback throughout the UI, new customizable system sounds with stereo effects, uninstallable system apps, and more.

Last year, Xiaomi announced its best-ever smartphone ever in the form of Mi 10 Ultra. This handset was released to celebrate the company’s tenth anniversary. This device debuted with MIUI 12 based on Android 10. Now, after six months from its launch, the handset is finally receiving the Android 11 update.

In August 2020, Xiaomi launched two China-exclusive smartphones called Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. The duo was released with the Android 10-based MIUI 12 operating system.

Like most Xiaomi phones sold in China, they are included in the MIUI Beta program. Hence, the duo has been receiving Android 11-based weekly MIUI builds for quite a while.

However, the firm started seeding the ‘Stable Beta’ update (V12.1.1.0.RJJCNXM) for Mi 11 Ultra only on February 1. A little over two weeks later, this build is now available for more users as it seems to have termed as ‘Stable’.

For those unaware, MIUI Stable Beta builds are basically stable builds for limited users to test for possible major bugs. If there are no problems, the same build is rolled out to a wider audience as a stable update.

Therefore, in case you have imported this handset from China, then do check for any new OTA update from the phone’s Settings app. That said, the Mi 10 Ultra should receive at least one more Android update and three MIUI updates, as per Xiaomi’s update track record.

Today we are not going to talk about any new devices. Instead, we will go through the history of Xiaomi Mi series smartphones, so that you can get a better idea of what kind of brand Xiaomi exactly is. And how they have evolved over the past few years. 

The year 2020 marks the tenth year of Xiaomi, a company that is undoubtedly an industry legend. In this decade, Xiaomi has not only been ranked among the top five in the world in terms of smartphone sales year after year but has also made it to the top 500 companies in the world. And in its tenth year, the Xiaomi Mi 10 marked the beginning of a move away from being extremely cost-effective flagships and into the ranks of high-end and premium phones.

But we can’t talk about Xiaomi’s success without talking about its flagship phones. So let’s go back in time and see how the youngest ever Fortune 500 company went from zero to tens of billions of dollars in market capitalization.

What you may not know is that in the first year of Xiaomi, its first product launched was not a mobile phone, but a customized operating system based on Android called MIUI, whose smooth, user-friendly experience built up a good reputation for Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Mi 1

And in the second year, i.e. in August 2011, the first Xiaomi phone, the Xiaomi Mi 1 with MIUI was launched. In the first online sale of the phone, 300 thousand units were sold out in just 5 minutes. The popularity was not only due to the fluid experience of MIUI but also because of its unbelievable pricing strategy. While having a similar configuration to the Samsung Galaxy S2, it was only half the price of the S2. Coming with a Snapdragon S3 1.5GHz dual-core chipset, a 4-inch display with 245ppi, and 1GB RAM, all of which were top configurations back then, the Mi 1 was priced at 1999RMB, which converted to around 300USD. At that time, no one could do that, except for Xiaomi.

Since then, the number 1999, has become Xiaomi’s lucky number, and it’s like a Magic spell.

But to be honest, the design of the first Mi phone was not outstanding at all, which also became one of the most criticized points of the Xiaomi flagships in the latter years. 

Xiaomi Mi 2

In the summer of 2012, Xiaomi released the Mi 2, which not only had an upgraded SoC but also had a bigger screen with a 342ppi resolution, which was even better than the Apple iPhone 4s. And it was equipped with 2GB of RAM, which was not common at that time. The Mi 2 continued Mi 1’s trend of offering superb value for money and also continued to gain strong support from Mi fans at the same price of 1999RMB. Hundreds of thousands Mi 2 in stock were sold out within minutes each time. 

Xiaomi Mi 2S

However, the most famous model of Mi 2 series is not the Mi 2. Instead, it’s the Mi 2s released in 2013. In that year, Xiaomi released 3 phones: the Mi 2S, the Redmi 1,

and the Mi 3. The Mi 2S was an improved version of the Mi 2, with an updated MIUI, a new snapdragon 600 SoC, and, as usual, the same price at 1999RMB. 

While the Android phones of the same period were relatively less powerful, the Mi 2s had a clear advantage at the time with excellent performance and powerful software support. And thanks to the long official support from MIUI 4 to MIUI 9, the Mi 2s has become one of the longest-lived models among all the Mi phones.

Because of its strong performance, it is still able to run some of the mainstream apps of today. Even now there are some users who haven’t given up on this model. That’s why the 2s was also known as a classic magic model by Mi fans in China, just like the iPhone 4 for Apple.

Although Mi phones have had great sales success from the Mi 1 to the Mi 2s, too many consumers complained about the lack of stock all the time, many of them started questioning Xiaomi as a ‘monkey tricking’ company that uses thirsty marketing strategies to consume users’ patience and enthusiasm. But the partial reason might be that as a startup lacking production capacity, Xiaomi didn’t have the ability to quickly respond to the huge market demand. 

Redmi 1

By the way, the first Redmi phone was released in the same year. As Xiaomi’s first sub-brand, Redmi took on the role of Xiaomi’s foothold in the budget market. For only around 120 USD, you could get a branded quality phone that was good value for money, which was a rarity in the global phone market at that time. More than 9 million pre-sales orders also proved the Redmi brand was on the right path. And the Xiaomi brand continued to build up its strength to make a real high-end flagship. 

Xiaomi Mi 3

Now coming back to the Mi 3 flagship released later the year. Xiaomi abandoned the mediocre design of the predecessors and changed it into a totally new design with a more angular appearance. It came with the global debut of the snapdragon 800 soc and an upgraded 1080P display with a 441PPI resolution. And the M3 was the first Xiaomi phone that had a non-removable rear cover. Thanks to the more integrated body, its battery capacity was improved to 3050mAh. Even with all these significant upgrades, again, Xiaomi continued the pricing strategy of starting from 1999RMB, not disappointing fans who believed they could get the phone at the amazing 1999RMB price tag. 

Clearly, it must have taken Xiaomi a lot of courage and efforts to bring such an important product at such an affordable price tag. However, the Mi 3 became a unique model in the history of Mi Phones with people’s polarized reviews. In addition to the praises about the upgrades we mentioned, some accused it of copying the industrial design of the Nokia Lumia series and complained about its poor build quality. 

Xiaomi Mi 4

In the summer of 2014, after the controversial design of Mi 3, the Mi 4 was released. For the Mi 4, Xiaomi put its focus on the phone’s design upgrades. With the slogan of ‘a steel plate’s artistic journey’, it was the first time a Mi phone used a metal stainless steel frame. And shifting from the angular style of the Mi 3, the Mi 4 returned to the design of the Mi 1 and Mi 2 series. The back cover had a special pattern design, and the whole machine got a huge boost in build quality. Unsurprisingly, 2014 was another year of big sales for Xiaomi.

In 2015, there were no updates of the Mi series. Instead, a new series was launched – the Xiaomi Note 1. As Xiaomi’s first attempt to hit the high-end market, the new Note 1 was not successful. The lack of a fingerprint reader and the four-month delay in the launch of the snapdragon 810 SoC due to overheating issues, left the Note 1 behind most competitors as soon as it went on sale. The lack of a widely praised flagship model in 2015 hinted at the oncoming darkness for Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Mi 5

In early 2016, the Mi 5 eventually came out. With its first attempt at a ceramic back cover, a white front face, a home button with a fingerprint sensor, and the latest Snapdragon 820, it was supposed to sell very well for a starting price of just 1999RMB. but the sales of the Mi 5 again was delayed by nearly eight months and it was out of stock for a long time after it went on sale. The delay affected its sales significantly, and it was the time when the brand was called out most by fans for its ‘hunger marketing’ Basically fans were frustrated that Xiaomi’s best products were not easily available for sale. 

Mi Mix 1

But fortunately, there was another heavyweight that took to the stage in 2016, the Mi Mix 1. For the first time in its history, users saw and admired Xiaomi’s industrial design capabilities on the Mix 1. It came with a full-screen design with three super-narrow bezels and a selfie camera on the chin below., which made it pretty stunning at that time.

Even today, it still looks pretty impressive. The ceramic back cover is as gentle as jade, and the camera and fingerprint reader are placed in the upper center, in line with the symmetrical aesthetic. It’s no exaggeration to say that it has to a certain extent inspired future smartphone screen design. However, the Mix 1 was stuck in the stage of being a concept phone due to the difficulties in production. It wasn’t mass-produced, so there was no way to salvage the decline in sales in 2016. In these two years, Xiaomi suffered its first setback. 

Xiaomi Mi 6

Then came April of 2017, when the phone with the best reputation ever in Xiaomi history, the Mi 6 debuted. It came with a new home button integrated with a fingerprint reader without opening a hole, and also added a telephoto camera. Besides the commendable design and the excellent build quality, the debut of Snapdragon 835 SoC also made it almost impeccable at that time.

The Snapdragon 835 was the best Android chipset in recent years with its excellent power and cooling performance. With almost no shortcomings, it was no longer priced at that familiar 1999RMB, and became the first model in the Mi series to start at more than 1999RMB. However, the 2299RMB starting price didn’t stop fans from purchasing the device. The success of the Mi 6 finally broke the price barrier of its flagships and further verified the importance of the product quality and performance. And so far, the Mi 6 is still the only Xiaomi phone that has never dropped in price from launch to exit. 

Xiaomi Mi 8

In 2018, Xiaomi skipped the Mi 7 and released the Mi 8. The Mi 8 has been controversial since its release. It did look like the iPhone. And the Xiaomi Mi 8 became the least distinctive model of the whole series. Even the infrared emitter, a standard feature that Mi series pride themselves on, was removed. Despite this, sales of the Mi 8 continued to rise because of its excellent value for money. At that time, you only needed to pay 2699RMB to get a flagship having a snapdragon 845 Soc, dual-band GPS, and infrared facial recognition for unlocking even in the dark. And more importantly, this was also the first time that Xiaomi started paying attention to the phone’s camera. Meanwhile, the camera department started to run independently to serve all the Xiaomi phones. 

Xiaomi Mi 9

In 2019, the Xiaomi Mi 9, codenamed ‘battle angel’, was launched. It featured three rear cameras, a Primary camera, a wide-angle camera and another telephoto camera, first time achieving three stages of focal length coverage. The Mi 9 scored 107 in the DXOMark test at that time, placing itself in third place. It’s also the first time that we really saw Xiaomi being praised for its camera system. Another selling point of the Mi9 was the thinness of 7.61mm and the lightweight body of 173g. With a curved glass cover, the phone did feel pretty impressive when holding in hands.

But the compromise of the Mi 9 was that the battery capacity had to be cut down to 3300mAh. The limited battery life also became the main complaint for the Mi 9, which, to some extent, affected the overall sales of the model. 

At the same time, the Xiaomi founder, Lei Jun said at the launch that the Mi 9 selling for 2999RMB was the last phone to be priced at under 3000RMB. 

Over the years, Xiaomi prepared well for the transition to the high-end market. 

Xiaomi Mi 10

As expected, the Mi 10 powered by Snapdragon 865, which started at 3999RMB, was released this spring. The Mi 10 comes with a 100MP main camera, a 90Hz curved hole-punch display, LPDDR5 RAM plus UFS 3 ROM, and, most importantly, 5G network support. However, although the price was almost twice the initial price of 1999RMB, there were fewer complaints about the Mi 10’s pricing strategy. Compared to other brand flagships, Mi 10 is still one of the most competitive models in the market in its price segment. And besides the Mi 10 itself, Xiaomi offered several models of the Mi 10 series which were developed for different market segments and regions, such as Mi 10 Pro, 10 Lite, 10T, and so on. No doubt the most famous model is the Mi 10 Ultra specially made to commemorate Xiaomi’s 10TH Anniversary. It’s almost the first Mi flagship that took an all-around lead among Android phones and had such high pricing. 

Xiaomi has been recognized as a special brand to make phones with great value for money. Although the flagship Mi series will no longer come with a mid-range price tag, the sub-brand Redmi has taken up the market of budget cost-effective phones. For the past ten years, Xiaomi’s pattern has been imitated by a number of phone brands. However, most of them failed and didn’t survive in this highly competitive industry. 

On the other hand, we do have to add that Xiaomi is not perfect. At least it’s still facing the dilemma between pursuing higher brand value and maintaining its existing user base. And no doubt the success of the Mi 10 Ultra has encouraged Xiaomi to break the dilemma. 

The Mi 11 is about to be released. And we’re really looking forward to Xiaomi bringing us a surprise.

For this category, we looked at a combination of specs, price, review, and even availability in different markets. It was pretty difficult coming up with a winner as there were strong contenders. Nevertheless, the Xiaomi Mi 10 was the device we finally settled for.

The phone which launched in the first half is not Xiaomi‘s best phone this year. That award goes to the Mi 10 Ultra but the standard Mi 10 is the one that satisfies most of the criteria.

Honorable mention – The Galaxy S20 gets an honorable mention as it is the runner-up in this category. Samsung’s 2020 S -series flagship is a great choice for anyone searching for a phone that ticks most of the boxes. It also packs the more powerful Snapdragon 865+ processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage for $1,999.

Best Budget 5G Phone – OnePlus Nord

The OnePlus Nord was announced this year as the first budget OnePlus phone in a long while. The mid-range phone gets our nod as the best budget 5G phone for its combination of specs and price. For a starting price of €399, you get a 90Hz AMOLED display, quad rear cameras, dual front-facing cameras, a Snapdragon 765G processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 4115mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. Are there cheaper 5G phones? Yes, there are but they come with tradeoffs such as an LCD display or an AMOLED display with no refresh rate, less RAM, less powerful processors, and slower charging technologies.

Honorable Mentions – The Moto G 5G Plus gets an honorable mention. It matches the OnePlus Nord in terms of the number of cameras, has a display with a high refresh rate albeit LCD, packs a massive 5000mAh battery that will last more than a day, and runs a near-stock version of Android. Its slightly lower clocked Snapdragon 765 processor will also handle anything you throw at it. It’s €399 for the 6+128GB version.

The realme 7 5G and the Mi 10 Lite 5G are also strong contenders and deserve to be mentioned.

Best flagship You Can’t Buy

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ and the Mi 10 Ultra tie for this category. The latter is expected to be sold in global markets but is yet to be available for purchase three months after it launched. In its home country, Huawei will be selling the phone in limited quantities thrice a week.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra which is Xiaomi’s best phone this year will not be sold outside China. So the only way to get it is to import the device from China.

The Mi 10 Ultra is Xiaomi’s 10th-anniversary flagship smartphone. This handset was unveiled in August 2020 and is exclusive to China. The phone’s DXOMARK Camera review was also released on the day of its announcement as it beat the then champion HUAWEI P40 Pro. Anyway, it lost to HUAWEI Mate40 two months later in October. Now, the device loses big time on DXOMARK Selfie by scoring only 88 points.

The DXOMARK team has finally published the selfie review of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra. According to it, the smartphone ranks distant 22nd by bagging 88 points. In other words, the front-facing camera on this phone is simply mediocre, as per the review.

The Mi 10 Ultra comes equipped with a single punch-hole selfie camera located at the top left side of the handset’s curved OLED display supplied by TCL CSOT. It is a 20MP 1/3.4-inch fixed-focus sensor with an f/2.3 lens capable of capturing images of up to 20 megapixels and recording videos up to a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD) at 30 fps.

Talking about performance, the device scores 86 points for photos and 91 points for videos respectively. The camera outputs pictures with accurate exposure (generally) on faces, and neutral white balance under most conditions.

But due to limited dynamic range, highlights are clipped in both photos and videos. Moreover, the images also suffer from noise (especially in low light), hue shit, flare, color quantization, inconsistent flash exposure, and unnatural blur effect in portrait mode.

As for videos, they have effective stabilization, well-controlled noise, accurate exposure, nice skin tones in both outdoor as well as indoor conditions, and good detail under bright light.

However, just like with the stills, the phone’s selfie camera also has several cons in video recording such as facial detail loss (especially in low light), occasional unnatural colors as well as skin tones, jello effect, and unnatural skin tones in low light.

All in all, the Mi 10 Ultra’s front-facing camera is no match for the competitors. But the smartphone’s rear camera setup makes up for it.

While wired charging has recorded a significant increase in charging speed for years, wireless charging has been playing catch up. However, thanks to Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Huawei, and OPPO, wireless charging is now incredibly fast too.

At the moment, if you want to experience the fastest wireless charging technology on a commercially-available device, your options are limited to the Mi 10 Ultra by Xiaomi and the Mate 40 Pro/Pro+/RS Porche Design by Huawei. These phones support 50W fast wireless charging, putting them way ahead of phones such as the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G that both support 15W wireless charging.

For those who are curious as to whose 50W fast wireless charging technology is faster between that of Xiaomi and Huawei, Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, has carried out a test to determine the result.

First, it is important to state that the two phones have similar battery capacities. The Mi 10 Ultra has a 4500mAh battery capacity that is split into two cells while the Mate 40 Pro has a 4400mAh battery capacity. We are not sure if they are two cells but a teardown has revealed that the phone has two cables connected to the battery.

Based on the images shared on his Weibo page, both devices were placed on their respective wireless chargers at the same time (4:05). After 5 minutes, the Mate 40 Ultra was at 17% while the Mi 10 Ultra was at 20%. After 15 minutes of charge. the difference is wider as the Mi 10 Ultra is 49% while the Mate 40 Pro is at 38%. A 30-minute charge sees the Huawei flagship at 68% while the Xiaomi flagship is at 85% battery level.

The Mi 10 Ultra is fully charged after 39 minutes, confirming the claim by Xiaomi that it takes 40 minutes to fully charge using wireless charging. The Mate 40 Pro takes 56 minutes to get to 100%.

As you can see, the Mi 10 Ultra comes out on top which means Xiaomi’s 50W fast wireless charging technology is faster. Nevertheless, those who pick up the Mate 40 Pro should be equally impressed with the wireless charging speed of their device.

The Mi 10 Ultra by Xiaomi is one of few phones that supports 120W fast charging. It is also one of the few phones that support Quick Charge 5 which brings 100W+ fast charging.

Xiaomi ships the Mi 10 Ultra with a 120W GaN charger in the box, unlike some manufacturers that include a slower charger than the device supports or no charger at all. This means that if you purchase the Mi 10 Ultra, you can experience this ultra-fast charging technology right away.

A battery charging test to see how fast the phone charges has revealed that the Mi 10 Ultra charges at a slower rate, actually a much slower rate but one that is still faster than most of the devices on the market.

The battery charging test was carried out by the folks at Android Authority and they discovered that the M1 10 Ultra actually charges at just 80W compared to the 120W advertised by Xiaomi.

The test revealed that the charger begins drawing 92.3W of power when first plugged in but then falls to 86.4W for the most part of the charging duration. The power received at the handset itself is 80.1W which, of course, is really fast, taking just 21 minutes to fully charge from empty. The phone was also charged with an 18W adapter and that took 68 minutes to fully charge.

For those concerned about battery temperature, the peak temperature at 80W is 43.8°C which is higher than the ideal temperature of 40°C. This peak temperature will be much higher if the phone actually charged closer to 120W. The phone was also charged at 50W which took 29 minutes from empty to full and at a peak temperature of 39.1°C. That sure is a small difference in charging time seeing as there is a 30W difference between the power ratings.

It is important to state that the Mi 10 Ultra doesn’t maintain a high temperature all through the charging duration when charging at 80W. The temperature falls when the battery level gets to 70%.

At 80W, the Mi 10 Ultra does charge pretty fast, much faster than most phones. However, we are sure folks will be pretty disappointed at the fact that it doesn’t actually charge at 120W, which, to be honest, is probably better for the phone’s battery health.

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 10 Ultra flagship smartphone to commemorate the company’s 10-year anniversary. While the phone is quite powerful, the company is all set to demonstrate how it can be used to remotely control a car.

The company has shared a teaser poster and video on Weibo which reveals that Xiaomi is set to demonstrate how it can use Mi 10 Ultra smartphone to remotely control a car that is thousands of miles away, using 5G connectivity. It is not yet known which model of the car was used by Xiaomi for the demonstrations.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra comes with a 6.67-inch Full HD+ display that offers 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, along with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, support for HDR10+, a peak brightness of 1120 nits, and up to 1.07 billion colors. The display is TÜV Rheinland certification and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

The smartphone also features an in-display fingerprint scanner. Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor — the same chipset that is powering the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro smartphones launched earlier this year.

It is already known that Xiaomi has got an under-screen camera phone in the works. The company’s CEO Lei Jun recently released a demo video showing the firm’s perfected third-generation under-screen display in action. Right now, a video of the Mi 10 Ultra having an under-display selfie camera has appeared online.

The video was shared on Weibo with what appears to be a Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra packing an under-display camera (UDC) being compared with a couple of other Xiaomi devices. Xiaomi released the Mi 10 Ultra recently in China to mark its 10th anniversary and the device didn’t feature an under-display selfie camera. The unit in this video which clearly is a Mi 10 Ultra considering the rear camera design may likely be an early prototype that ended up not being mass-produced.

However, there are speculations that Xiaomi may possibly launch this under-display version of the Mi 10 Ultra in October or November. There are also speculations that the Chinese tech giant may alternatively only showcase the model just like the Mi Mix before mass-production commences next year. The source clearly indicated that this is a prototype and won’t be released until next year. Xiaomi also stated earlier that it aims to bring this technology to the mass market next year” (2021.

The industry saw its first commercially launched under-display camera-packing phone in the Axon 20 5G recently. The device was a mid-range model and the samples shot on the selfie camera wasn’t that great. Since it is a mid-range model that doesn’t cost so much, the negative reviews won’t be high. We can’t say the same thing about the Mi 10 Ultra which from all intents and purposes is a flagship model. Xiaomi won’t want to test the waters with an expensive machine. Well, except it is sure that the camera quality is devoid of glare and the output is of flagship quality.

Like every month, Master Lu Benchmark has released the lists of best smartphones launched in August in terms of performance and UI fluency. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra aka Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition leads both the lists, followed by iQOO 5.

Master Lu is a popular benchmarking platform in China. Like AnTuTu, it also releases monthly lists of best smartphones. The company shared the list of best-performing devices yesterday, followed by UI fluency list today on Weibo.

Surprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra tops both the lists despite it being powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 unlike Snapdragon 865+ (Plus) present in Galaxy Note20 Ultra. Also, the regular iQOO 5 comes second instead of iQOO 5 Pro, which is at the fifth position.

Similarly, the regular Galaxy Note20 ranks third in performance, whereas the Ultra captures fourth place. However, in UI fluency, the latter comes at distant seventh, followed by the former at eighth.

Other notable handsets in the performance list include Redmi K30 Ultra, vivo S7, OPPO K7, realme V5, and Nokia C3 from sixth position onwards.

Unsurprisingly, the Redmi K30 Ultra ranks ninth, just ahead of Nokia C3 in UI fluency. This goes in line with our review, in which we experienced it to be janky despite featuring MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ (Plus) chipset. Xiaomi really needs to optimize the software on this phone.

Last but not least, the vivo S7, OPPO K7, and realme V5 rank fourth, fifth, and fifth respectively in UI fluency.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra packs a 6.67-inch OLED display with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The display is capable of providing a 120Hz refresh rate for the smooth gaming experience and supports up to 800 nits brightness.

Performance

The smartphone is powered with a Snapdragon 865 chipset built on 2nm+ process. It is coupled with an octa-core processor and Adreno 650 GPU. It is available in different storage variants with RAM varying from 8GB to 16GB.

Camera

A quad-rear sensor is present consisting of a 48-megapixel primary sensor, another 48-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 20-megapixel ultrawide camera. There’s a 20-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling. The rear camera is capable of recording 8K videos.

Other Features

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra houses a 4500 mAh battery with 120W fast charging, 50W fast wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. In the connectivity, it features support for WiFI, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC< Infrared port, and USB 2.0 Type-C port. There’s an under-display fingerprint sensor for quick authentication.

Update: Official Video

On August 27, a day after this story was originally published, Xiaomi officially showcased Device Control in a video. It was shared by Xiaomi Smart Life profile on Weibo.

The Telegram channel who spotted the feature first claimed it to only work on Mi NoteBook Pro 15 2020. However, the person in the video attached below uses it on the newly launched Redmi G Gaming laptop.

Ever since Xiaomi released MIUI 12 in late April, the company has been adding new features with weekly beta builds. The latest MIUI 12 beta build for Mi 10 Ultra brings an app called ”Xiaomi Device Control”, which is similar to Huawei Multi-Screen Collaboration and Microsoft Your Phone.

Earlier this month, Xiaomi launched Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra to commemorate its 10th anniversary. However, the new Xiaomi Device Control app is currently only available on the former device.

This app was first reported by a Telegram channel called @miuiknoun (via XDA Developers). It only supports Mi 10 Ultra, Mi 9 and Mi NoteBook Pro 15 2020 as of now. It should be compatible with more smartphones and laptop models from the company in the coming weeks.

To use the features offered by this app, users must have another application called Mi Share PC (Mi AIoT) installed on their supported Xiaomi laptop. Once the connection is established, users can perform the following actions.

• Screen mirroring
• Transfer files between phone and PC
• Open multiple windows (instances) of the phone on PC
• Edit files on the phone directly from the PC

All these features screen Huawei Multi-Screen Collaboration and Microsoft Your Phone. Hopefully, Xiaomi brings it to more devices and maybe even implement it with NFC for a seamless experience like on Huawei devices.

This MIUI feature is expected to debut in the stable channel in October after wider internal beta testing in September.

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 10 Ultra smartphone along with the Redmi K30 Ultra, marking the company’s 10th anniversary. However, the company revealed that the phones are limited to the Chinese markets only and there’s no plan for a global launch.

This apparently didn’t sit well with the company’s fans. They are now pushing the company to launch the Mi 10 Ultra smartphone globally. Someone has started a Change.org petition for this and it is now getting traction.

A couple of weeks ago, Daniel D, Senior Product Marketing Manager and Global Spokesperson for Xiaomi, had confirmed that there are no plans for a global release of Mi 10 Ultra, Redmi K30 Ultra, Mi TV Lux Transparent Edition, and the Ninebot GoKart Pro Lamborghini Edition.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra comes with a 6.67-inch Full HD+ display that offers 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, along with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, support for HDR10+, a peak brightness of 1120 nits, and up to 1.07 billion colors. The display is TÜV Rheinland certification and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

It also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner. Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor — the same chipset that is powering the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro smartphones launched earlier this year.

The device packs up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and offers 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. It has a quad-camera setup that includes a 48MP primary sensor, 48 MP ultra-telephoto lens, a 12MP telephoto sensor, and a 20MP ultrawide sensor. On the front, there’s a 20MP snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The smartphone is running the company’s own MIUI 12 which is based on Android. It is powered by a 4,500mAh battery — which has a combination of two 2250mAh butterfly-designed graphene-based lithium-ion batteries. The phone supports 120W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Last week, Xiaomi founder and CEO, Lei Jun gave a long speech to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the brand. Apart from reviewing its journey over the past 10 years, Xiaomi also released a bunch of products to celebrate its anniversary – Mi 10 Ultra, Redmi K30 Ultra, and Mi TV LUX Transparent TV. Today we’ve got the Mi 10 Ultra in for review. It’s the most powerful Xiaomi handset in the market right now and let’s see if it lives up to its ‘Ultra’ reputation. 

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Review: Design

The Mi 10 Ultra we’ve got is the transparent version, which is one of the most special designs among all Mi-phones. From the transparent cover, we can see the 50W wireless charging sensor and an NFC sensor. Apart from these two main components, the internal structure is still covered by a layer of protection. You can also see the 10th-anniversary edition sticker on the back. 

As compared to Mi 10 Pro, the Ultra makes up for almost all of its drawbacks. Not happy with the Mi 10 Pro’s display? Now you can have a 120Hz AMOLED display with better colors on the Ultra. The 50W charging speed not fast enough for you? Now you can have the up to 120W fast charging to give your Ultra a full charge in just 23 mins. Were you satisfied with the Pro’s camera performance? Now the Ultra’s new camera setup is even better than the Pro!

Apart from these improvements, all the good features from the Pro have been retained on the Ultra, such as the excellent dual-stereo speakers and the great performance. 

However, we also found a new drawback of the Ultra. The hands-on feeling is not as comfortable as we had on the Mi 10 and Pro. The weight of 223g and the thickness of 9.5mm has made it one of those bulky flagships. Otherwise, the experience with the Mi 10 Ultra has been pretty great so far.  

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Review: Display

Let’s take a closer look at its improved display. Although the Ultra’s display panel is no longer from the famous supplier, Samsung, it still got improved with 10bits color output and 120Hz refresh rate based on the same level of color accuracy.

As we observed, the new display applied the same delta arrangement as the Mi 10’s display, which is recognized as one of the best pixel arrangements for a smartphone display. You also get a high 120Hz refresh rate. This higher refresh rate not only offers system fluency and smoother gaming experience but also better viewing experience when watching 120Hz professional videos without frame loss.

For low-framerate video playback, unfortunately, we did not find any frame interpolation solution as the MEMC solution on the Ultra similar to what we saw on the OnePlus 8 Pro.

As for gaming, the boost in performance is obvious given the higher refresh rate and a higher sampling rate of the display, eventually leveraging the CPU’s surplus performance and making the most of the Snapdragon 865.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Review: 120W Charging & Battery Life

Now let’s check out the super-charging tech on the phone before we move on to the other areas. The included charger is the first one that can achieve over 100W charging efficiency. As we connected the charging cable, the charging animation showed a visible charging speed that we’ve not seen before. It’s pretty insane that it only took around 9 mins to get a 50% on its 4500mAh battery; and the full-charge test was finished in 24mins. 

In 120Hz display mode, we watched videos for 2 hours and then spent another hour on social media apps for the battery life test. The Ultra eventually had 77% of the power left. And then 2-more-hour gaming in PUBG Mobile consumed another 35% of the power. The overall battery life is pretty decent and it should be good enough for an entire day’s usage. 

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Review: Gaming & Performance

As for its performance, according to the benchmark apps, it’s not much different from what we got on the Mi 10 and Pro.

So let’s move on to the gaming test. In PUBG Mobile, although we unlocked the 120fps framerate, the Ultra ran the game at 120fps for a while and then automatically shifted down to 60fps framerate. It’s probably because the phone detected a heating problem and attempted to readjust the frame rate to a more stable state. The average framerate for PUBG eventually remained at 76.9fps, which is not an excellent result for a phone running snapdragon 865. But it should not be a problem for the Ultra to run PUBG at a stable 60fps.

And then we decided to run Nimian Legends as a stress test. Unfortunately, due to the framerate locking issue, the average framerate on the Ultra is only around 57.4fps. So, it seems that the Ultra couldn’t unleash the full potential of both, the 865 chipset and the 120Hz display, in some games.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra’s dual stereo speakers also perform really well. You can watch the video review above to see the speakers in action.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Review: Cameras

The biggest highlight of the Ultra is the new camera setup with 120x digital zooming capacity. The top camera sensor is the telephoto camera featuring a 5x optical zoom and up to 120 times digital zooming with OIS assistance. The second one is a portrait camera supporting a 2x optical zoom. The third sensor is the main camera. And the last one is a 128-degree super-wide-angle camera, which probably is the widest angle lens that we’ve seen on a smartphone camera.

Let’s check out their samples. The main camera is one of the best cameras we’ve experienced, especially because it’s really good at reserving rich detail from bright to dark areas with super high dynamic range and correct exposure. As compared to Mi10’s 108MP sensor, the Ultra’s new 48MP sensor also presented good sharpness and excellent texture. Meanwhile, the color is also impressive as we turn on the HDR.

The Portrait camera also brings visible improvement. The bokeh effect is very smooth and natural. And the edge detection of the subject is pretty accurate when handling relatively simple background and edges. Even so, when we took photos under complicated light conditions, you might find a bit of unnatural blurring. But it’s not a serious problem.

The 128-degree wide-angle camera’s samples have excellent colors with a good dynamic range. Unlike most Android phones, the Ultra’s wide-angle camera is much more practical as it also achieved great sharpness and clarity. A small problem of the wide-angle samples is the lens distortion. We were not surprised that the edge distortion may occur to the samples as they have quite a wide angle-of-view. But I have to say that under most conditions, the wide-angle samples and main camera samples would have a similar white balance. And thanks to the f/2.2 big aperture, the wide-angle camera still performed well under low light conditions. 

A minor issue with the main camera sensor is focus detection. In rare cases, the camera was not able to quickly auto-focus close subjects or sometimes it went out of focus.

Both primary and ultra-wide-angle sensors do really well at night, especially with the night mode. It not only has a brighter and clearer image than the normal mode but manages the exposure really well. The night mode reserved rich detail for both sensors to achieve a wider dynamic range. Meanwhile, the noise control is just perfect and I can easily say that the Mi 10 Ultra’s night camera performance is among the best in the market.

As for its telephoto camera, although we have to admire Xiaomi’s innovation, 120x zoom is not really that useful. At least for now, it’s just like a promotional stunt for the 10th-anniversary edition and doesn’t add much value. But regular 5x and 10x samples look as good as its predecessors.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Review: Verdict

So that’s it, there’s no doubt the Mi 10 Ultra is the best Xiaomi smartphone product of 2020. With Ultra’s release, Xiaomi is trying to deliver a message that the 10-year-old brand is capable of developing a extremely premium and advanced smartphone in this competitive market. Indeed, it feels as if the Mi 10 Ultra marks the start of a new chapter for Xiaomi (it’s also worth mentioning the Mi 10 Ultra is the top-rated camera phone on DxOMark right now!). 

The Mi series is no longer about basic cost-effective flagships. And the Mi 10 Ultra is a prime example of how Xiaomi can make ultra-premium phones for the ultra-premium segment. You are really getting 120% value for your money here. 

Unfortunately, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra is not slated to land in the international markets anytime soon. However, you can get it from retailers like Giztop for around $800-$900.

While the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra grabbed the spotlight for its whopping 120W wired fast charging support, it was equally if not more admirable that it reached up to 50W wireless fast charging rates as well. This is something most smartphones don’t support through wired charging. Now, the company has revealed a lengthy video explaining how they managed to achieve charging a 4,500mAh battery pack in just 40 minutes.

According to the video, the crucial aspect that allowed the Chinese tech giant to make this technology was to change the layout of the bits between the coil and the battery. In other words, the charging pumps, which are DC-DC converters that are used to increase or decrease voltage. Unlike a traditional layout of having them in series, Xiaomi set them up parallel to each other.

Another benefit of this layout was that the new parallel pump system had the new technology be more energy efficient. Conventional pumps are only 97 percent power efficient, so placing them in series (97% * 97% = 94%). But in the case of parallel pumps, the loss occurs only once with a 98.6 percent efficiency. The difference may not seem like a lot, but just a small change can greatly increase thermal performance.

The materials used in the connectors were also built with a highly conductive graphene-based material that also improved efficiency. Furthermore, the battery itself was split into two halves of 2,250mAh, to maximize charging rates. Xiaomi also focused heavily on the coils, with a multi strand winding technology being used to tightly weave wire in 5 layers. In simpler terms, a lot of clever technology hides beneath the company’s latest flagship handset.

To mark its 10th anniversary, Xiaomi unveiled a slew of products last week. At the top of the pack is the Mi 10 Ultra. The flagship device arrives with several standout features including 120W wired fast-charging support, a periscope lens and more.

Xiaomi has now released a teardown with of the Mi 10 Ultra giving us our first glimpse of the internals. As revealed, the Mi 10 Ultra won’t be released outside China meaning it may not be possible to find a teardown video of the device on YouTube.

The video clip isn’t a long one, having a duration of two minutes but enough to showcase all the details there is to see. The first component that is visible when the back panel is yanked off is the NFC chip and the coil for the 50W wireless charging.

The video contains a reminder of the blazing speed at which the device can charge when the charger that ships with it is used. The phone can go from 0 to 100% in 40 minutes. The charging speed is even faster with a wired charger which tops the 4500mAh battery in 23 minutes.

The rear camera setup is also unveiled in the video including the periscope cam which bends light through a prism that goes into the main sensor. The main cam is a 48 MP Sony IMX586 sensor.

Further, we get to see three cooling solutions which Xiaomi implemented on the Mi 10 Ultra. This includes a graphene-copper sandwich for the chipset, RAM, storage, and modem; additional graphene sheet, combined with a copper cooling chamber with vapor underneath the front panel; and an additional highly-conductive film, sitting right between the optical fingerprint scanner and the OLED, helping to dissolve the heat across the 110 sq.cm display.

The phone is also shown to feature an X-axis vibration motor sitting right below the battery and to pack a dual stereo speaker system.

Xiaomi held an event on August 11 to launch its 10th-anniversary special products. At the conference, Lei Jun, the company’s co-founder and CEO confirmed that its “Smart Factory” in Yizhuang, Beijing has begun operations. In fact, the newly unveiled Mi 10 Ultra smartphone is manufactured there.

Back in November 2019, Lei Jun revealed that Xiaomi is building a Smart Factory powered by 5G and AI (Artificial Intelligence). Now, nine months later, the company confirms the facility to be operational.

This factory, with an area of 18,600 square meters, is equipped with a “fully automated production line spanning processes from production management to machine processing, packaging and storage”. It is capable of producing over 1 million smartphones a year.

Xiaomi has dedicated this facility to manufacture high-end premium smartphones. Additionally, the factory will be also used for testing cutting edge materials, technologies, and manufacturing process, as well as, for pre-research projects, and automation equipment R&D.

Currently, the company only produces Mi 10 Ultra Transparent Edition in its new Smart Factory. But we expect the number of models to increase with the introduction of new premium handsets in the coming quarters.

That said, Xiaomi’s CEO also disclosed that the next phase of Smart Factory will be around three years later.

Xiaomi recently launched Mi 10 Ultra to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The handset features many firsts like 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and Quick Charge 5.0. After the announcement of the device, Qualcomm also confirmed that it is the first phone to support Adreno GPU Control Panel.

The Mi 10 Ultra is the most powerful and feature-packed commercially available smartphone from the house of Xiaomi. Unfortunately, it is limited to China as the company has no plans to launch it in global markets. Due to this, people outside China will miss out on many firsts that are present on this phone.

There are a number of gaming smartphones available internationally but none of them offers granular GPU controls like the Mi 10 Ultra. In fact, this feature is developed in partnership with the GPU maker Qualcomm itself.

The American chipmaker calls it Adreno GPU Control Panel and it is part of MIUI’s Game Turbo 4.0 in Mi 10 Ultra. It enables users to tweak parameters like anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, texture filtering, frame rate, and others just like on desktop GPUs.

Further, the Adreno 650 GPU present inside it also supports updateable GPU drivers. In other words, this handset acts as a gaming smartphone without being one.

We are not sure which globally available device will be the first to bring Qualcomm Adreno GPU Control Panel but hopefully, it arrives sooner than later.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra that was announced yesterday packs a pretty impressive display. It is not a QHD+ panel but it is still worthy of attention.

The curved AMOLED 6.67-inch screen not only has a 120Hz refresh rate but is a 10-bit panel that is capable of displaying over 1 billion colors. The only other devices, as far as I can remember, that launched this year that are capable of displaying such impressive colors are the OPPO Find X2 Pro and the OnePlus 8 Pro.

While the display of the Find X2 Pro and the OnePlus 8 Pro is supplied by Samsung Display, it has been revealed that the one used in the Mi 10 Ultra was supplied by TCL’s display subsidiary, China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT). The info was revealed on Weibo by the manufacturer itself.

The post also includes some specifications and features of the OLED display such has its Delta E Value of less than 1, JNCD value of less than 0.63, its brightness (800 nits, 1120 nits max.), DCI-P3 color gamut, and MEMC support.

Fact – the Find X2 Pro doesn’t use a true 10-bit panel like that of the Mi 10 Ultra. Actually, it uses a combination of 8-bit color depth and a 2-bit dither algorithm to achieve 1.07 billion colors.

Xiaomi’s 10th-anniversary event yesterday saw the tech giant announce a number of awesome products. Among the lineup is the Mi 10 Ultra which is the first phone with support for 120W fast charging. There is also the Mi TV Lux Transparent Edition, a literally transparent flatscreen TV. A Xiaomi spokesman has now revealed that there are no plans for these products to get a global release.

It sure is disappointing news but there is still a chance that at least one of these products may get an international release before the end of the year. However, the chances of the Mi 10 Ultra getting a global release might be the slimmest of them all.

To start with, Xiaomi didn’t announce the Mi 9 Pro 5G outside China last year. So, it is understandable why there are no plans to launch the Mi 10 Ultra globally. Another reason is that the Mi 10 Ultra flagship is assembled at Xiaomi’s new Smart Factory, a next-gen fully-automated production line that is designed for making flagships and as a testing-ground for high-end products.

The Mi 10 Ultra is the first premium smartphone to be assembled at this factory which means if Xiaomi is going to launch the device outside China, it will have to be exported to these markets which will significantly raise the price. The same can be said for the Mi TV Lux Transparent Edition too.

Anyways, we can look forward to the Mi 11 (if that is what it will be called and they don’t pull a Samsung move and jump to Mi 20). Next year’s flagship should get a global release and should pack some of the features of the Mi 10 Ultra including 120W fast charging.

Redmi K30 Ultra

Xiaomi also launched the new Redmi K30 Ultra smartphone to attract users looking for a mid-range device. It includes a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ SoC, 6.67-inch display, 120Hz refresh rate, and 33W fast charging. Xiaomi just announced the Mi 10 Ultra flagship and it is practically their best phone yet. From an impressive design to cameras that bring you closer to your subject to the fastest charging technology on a commercially-available smartphone, this is a cumulation of 10 years of hard work.

Mi 10 Ultra Specifications – All about the numbers

The Mi 10 has a 6.67-inch FHD+ display (2340 x 1080). It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, support for HDR10+, a peak brightness of 1120 nits, and is a 10-bit display that is capable of displaying up to 1.07 billion colors. It has a Delta E value of less than 1 and a JNCD value of less than 0.63. The display has a TÜV Rheinland certification, is covered with Gorilla Glass 5, and has a fingerprint scanner behind it.

Xiaomi has stuck to the Snapdragon 865 processor that powered the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro that launched in the first half of the year. You get up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

There is support for dual SIM, WI-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC. The phone also has an IR sensor. The Mi 10 Ultra ships with MIUI 12 based on Android 11.

Xiaomi’s new flagship is the new king on DXOMark with an overall score of 130. The phone has four rear cameras:

• 48MP f/1.85 1/1.32″ 2.4μm custom-manufactured main sensor with OIS and an 8P lens
• 48MP 1/2-inch Quad Bayer ultra-telephoto sensor, 120mm-equivalent (5x optical) lens with f/4.1 aperture, PDAF, and OIS
• 12MP 1/2.56-inch telephoto sensor, 50mm-equivalent (2x optical) lens with f/2 aperture, Dual-Pixel AF
• 20MP 1/2.8-inch ultrawide sensor, 12mm-equivalent lens with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and a 128° field of view

The Mi 10 Ultra has 10x optical zoom and a digital zoom that goes up to 120x, bringing you closer to objects that are far away. The custom-made primary sensor allows for taking high-quality photos in the dark.

The rear cameras can record slow-motion videos at a resolution of up to 1080p at 120fps, 240ps, and 960fps. The phone can also record 8K videos at 24fps and 4K at 60fps.

The Mi 10 Ultra also has a 20MP front-facing camera with EIS and it can shoot in 1080p at 30fps and in slow-motion at 120fps. It is packed with lots of features including HDR and Night Mode.

Mi 10 Ultra Battery and Charging – extremely fast

There is a 4500mAh battery inside the phone which is actually two 2250mAh butterfly-designed graphene-based lithium-ion batteries. The phone supports 120W wired fast charging that charges the phone up to 41% in 5 minutes and 100% in just 23 minutes. Don’t like wires cluttering your desk? Then there is 50W wireless charging that charges the device up to 100% in 40 minutes. Support for reverse wireless charging is available at 10W. The phone also supports Quick Charge 5.0, Quick Charge 4+, and Power Delivery 3.0. The spec sheet says the phone has a TÜV Rheinland Fast Charge 3.0 authentication.

At Xiaomi’s 10th Anniversary Special Event in China, the company unveiled its most powerful smartphone for 2020, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra. As the name suggests, the phone aims to take on the big flagships in the market like the Huawei P40 Pro Plus and the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. And the company’s new Mi 10 Ultra has managed to beat the world’s best camera phone according to DxOMark – the Huawei P40 Pro, with a score of 130.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra gets the Best Score in Photography: 142

DxOMark test reveals that the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra does exceptionally well in reproducing natural, lifelike colors, with excellent target exposure and sharp zoomed-in images with lots of detail. In fact, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra rakes in the highest scores in a number of categories, beating the past leader, Huawei P40 Pro. The phone got the best score in bokeh performance too, with excellent subject isolation. The phone was smart enough to recognize and avoid blurring strands of hair too, performing even better than P40 Pro. DxOMark adds that the Mi 10 Ultra had a very strong background blur too, enabling the subject in focus to pop out in the image.

The ultra wide-angle camera is also one of the highlights of the Mi 10 Ultra. DxOMark notes that the phone has the widest field-of-view of all smartphones launched to date. The field of view is significantly wider than the P40 Pro and it does well in controlling distortion and noise. It does exceptionally well in night time photography too, retaining better details of the subject with low noise.

Mi 10 Ultra does exceptionally well in Video too: 106

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra can capture 4K 60 fps videos but you can really test its limits with 8K 4320p 30fps video recording. And according to DxOMark, the phone manages to record high-quality videos with good dynamic range, excellent colors, quick autofocus, and effective stabilization.

While DxOMark isn’t perfect, the standardized tests give you a fair idea of how the Mi 10 Ultra fares as compared to its competitors. And with such high scores, we can expect excellent camera performance in real life from the new flagship.

From a smartphone maker who struggled to perfect its camera, Xiaomi has slowly climbed up to the top of DxOMark, in just a few years. The Mi 10 Ultra is a prime example of how the company’s efforts in the camera department over the years has finally paid off.

Note that the Huawei P40 Pro Plus model hasn’t been tested by DxOMark yet but I have a feeling Huawei might send it in soon for review.

Earlier today (11th August 2020), a Weibo blogger by the name @beautiful科技 leaked the hands on video of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra online. Apparently, the blogger had also signed an NDA with the company and could potentially face a breach of contract worth 1 million US Dollars. But in a bizarre turn of events, the blogger’s mother is claiming responsibility for the leak.

When the news regarding the initial leak first spread, certain Chinese reporting agencies reached out to @beautiful科技. However, the one that responded to all of these queries was not the blogger but their mother. According to the supposed parent, she was the one responsible for the leak and had done this by accident. Allegedly, she just saw the post on his computer waiting to be uploaded and hit “Yes” to share it online to a QQ group by mistake.

The original post has since been deleted but it has already been reuploaded by others and is circulating online. When the parent was asked about the gravity of the situation, she replied that she didn’t know what the matter was concerning and that her son had signed a non-disclosure agreement. At the moment, Xiaomi has yet to comment on the situation, so we will have to wait and see what course of action the Chinese tech giant takes.

Even though the Mi 10 Ultra will be announced tomorrow, the leaks have not stopped pouring in. The latest is a poster that reveals some key specs of the upcoming flagship.

The picture was posted on Weibo by a user that goes by “Nonsense de digital”. The image reveals the Mi 10 Ultra has 120x digital zoom, a 120Hz 10-bit display, and support for 120W fast charging.

The poster also includes images of the phone. As we can see, the Mi 10 Ultra will be available in white and gray. On its back are four cameras including one with a periscope lens.

The Mi 10 Ultra will be the first phone to launch with support for 120W fast charging, beating the upcoming iQOO 5 to it. The phone will also pack an amazing display which not only has a 120Hz refresh rate but is also a 10-bit OLED panel like that of the OPPO Find X2 Pro which means it can display more colors than the 8-bit panel used by most phones.

The Mi 10 Ultra will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 Plus processor with up to 16GB of RAM. It has been confirmed that the device will ship with a pre-applied antimicrobial film on the screen and an antimicrobial case.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra is expected to launch soon. The flagship will be packing some pretty impressive specs and features to take on the competition. In addition to these, Xiaomi has also confirmed the phone will be shipped with antimicrobial accessories.

The info was revealed by Lei Jun today. The top executive said in a post on Weibo that the Mi 10 Ultra will come with an antimicrobial protective film (on the display) and an antimicrobial case in the box.

It has been reported that the case uses silver ion antimicrobial technology which is used in coatings and textiles to provide continuous protection against bacterial growth. The silver ions work by creating holes in the essential components of the microbes such as the DNA and prevent them from performing even basic functions.

Xiaomi isn’t the first to apply antimicrobial coatings to accessories. Last month, Samsung applied for a trademark for “Antimicrobial Coating” and now a number of the accessories it announced for the Galaxy Note20 series have an antimicrobial coating such as the smart LED View cover and the smart Clear View Cover.

Antimicrobial coatings have become necessary following the COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus can survive on surfaces which is why phone owners are advised to disinfect their phones regularly. However, with antimicrobial cases and films, it means phone owners have one less thing to worry about.

We expect this will be the standard going forward. We also expect cases and film protectors made by third-party manufacturers will also have antimicrobial coatings.

Earlier this week, Xiaomi announced to host a launch event on August 11. The company even confirmed the product that it will be unveiling at the conference – Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra. The firm or any of its executives is yet to tease the specifications and features of these two handsets. But the storage configurations and color variants of these phones have now leaked beforehand.

The leak regarding Xiaomi’s 10th-year anniversary celebration smartphones comes from well-known leaker Ishan Agarwal in partnership with 91Mobiles.

According to the tipster, the upcoming Mi 10 Ultra will be available in four storage configurations and three color variants. Similarly, the Redmi K30 Ultra will come in three memory variants and three finishes respectively.

The latest leak also confirms ceramic back on the Mi 10 Ultra, which was suggested in another leak yesterday. Also, it is tipped to support 55W wireless charging as Xiaomi will be launching a wireless charger with a similar specification at the very same event. 

One the other hand, the Redmi K30 Ultra will neither come in 256GB variant nor with 12GB RAM. This is weird as the Redmi K30 Pro comes in both these variants.

Xiaomi has scheduled an event for August 11 in China to launch a number of products celebrating the 10th anniversary of the company. The star of the show will be Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition aka Mi 10 Ultra. Last night, Lei Jun, the CEO and co-founder of the firm revealed the motive behind this unique branding.

The upcoming Mi 10 Ultra is expected to be the fastest charging smartphone of 2020. Also, it is said to offer granular control over GPU in partnership with Qualcomm. Even the company is teasing it to be its most powerful smartphone yet.

But there is a commotion among netizens regarding why the device is not called Mi 10 Pro Plus like P40 Pro Plus, which is Huawei’s ultimate flagship smartphone of H1 2020. To clear everyone’s doubts, the CEO of Xiaomi posted an FAQ on Weibo explaining the branding, availability, and price.

Why Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition (Mi 10 Ultra)?

Lei Jun has been describing the forthcoming Mi 10 series phone as a “超大杯” (super big cup/oversized cup). In China, this term is used for premium flagship smartphones. Secondly, the company is launching it to celebrate its 10th year anniversary. Also, they wanted to give it a Chinese name.

Hence, he chose two names for the device and combined them. The first part of the branding says “至尊” (Extreme/Supreme) as it will be a powerful smartphone (super big cup). Whereas, the second-word “纪念” (commemorate/celebrate) is being used to describe it as the product for the 10th year anniversary.

Further, he revealed that they will be simply calling it “Mi 10 Ultra” for global markets. Probably because the original branding it too long and confusing for international customers.

Talking about availability, he said that they have enough stock to fulfil the demand but still asks fans to pre-order just in case to get first dibs on it. Lastly, he hinted the pricing to be premium.

So don’t expect Xiaomi’s powerful smartphone to be cheaper compared to premium handsets from its competitors as well as its own lineup.
