The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro 5G has just undergone camera tests from DxOMark, the known smartphone camera reviewer. The firm called the device a “Competent mid ranger,” achieving a score of 118 points.

Xiaomi had launched the Mi 10T Pro 5G back in September 2020 and a flagship model from the company. On the rear, it sports a triple camera setup with a 108 megapixel primary camera along with a 13 megapixel ultra wide angle lens and a 5 megapixel macro sensor. For photography, the Mi 10T Pro scored 121 points, 61 points on Zoom, and 110 points on videos.

Looking at photography first, DxOMark praised the device for accurate exposure and dynamic range in both outdoor and indoor shots. The primary lens also retained pleasant colors in outdoor and indoor pictures with the firm finding the camera system quite reliable. Although, the camera suffered a bit in low light scenarios, with limited dynamic range, and strong ghosting being visible in HDR photos. DxOMark also noted low details and high levels of noise in ultra wide angle shots during night shots.

For videography, the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro achieves high details in videos, which has accurate exposure in outdoor and indoor recordings. Furthermore, the stabilization on the videos was also found to be most effective. However, the device had visible artifacts in low light videos and inconsistencies in night scenes when capturing a video. Overall, the primary camera performed well and delivered high quality vidoes and photos for the most part, while its zoom and performance match other handsets in the mid range categories.

Best Camera Smartphone – Huawei Mate 40 Pro+

Over the past couple of years, Huawei has greatly improved the camera performance of its phones, and that investment has paid off with the Mate 40 Pro+ as it sits atop DxOMark‘s smartphone camera rankings.

The phone which packs five cameras including a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP periscope zoom lens, and a 20MP ultrawide angle camera among others; takes incredible photos in all lighting conditions. Its zoom capability is also one of the best you will find in a smartphone released this year.

If you want a phone with very excellent camera performance, then it should be the Mate 40 Pro+.

Best All-Round Flagship – Xiaomi Mi 10

For this category, we looked at a combination of specs, price, review, and even availability in different markets. It was pretty difficult coming up with a winner as there were strong contenders. Nevertheless, the Xiaomi Mi 10 was the device we finally settled for.

The phone which launched in the first half is not Xiaomi‘s best phone this year. That award goes to the Mi 10 Ultra but the standard Mi 10 is the one that satisfies most of the criteria.

Honorable mention – The Galaxy S20 gets an honorable mention as it is the runner-up in this category. Samsung’s 2020 S -series flagship is a great choice for anyone searching for a phone that ticks most of the boxes. It has a QHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, great cameras, an IP68 rating, support for wireless charging, and will receive three years of OS upgrades.

Best Value Flagship – Mi 10T Pro 5G

Our pick for the best value flagship phone is the Mi 10T Pro 5G. The €599 (8+128GB) phone packs an incredible LCD display with a whopping 144Hz refresh rate. There is a Snapdragon 865 processor on board along with superfast UFS 3.1 storage. You also get a 108MP triple rear camera, an IR blaster, and a massive 5000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.

Honorable mention – The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is one of Samsung’s best offerings this year with its Super AMOLED 120Hz screen, Exynos 990/Snapdragon 865 processor, nice cameras, and a 4500mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. It also has an IP68 rating but a plastic rear. It is more pricey at $699 for the 128GB version but like other Samsung flagships released this year, it will also get three OS upgrades. It even already received the Android 11 update.

Stand-out Phone of The Year – LG Wing

In a year were foldable phones made a big splash, LG managed to steal the spotlight for its uniquely designed LG Wing smartphone. The phone which takes a different approach to the dual-screen design with a satisfying swivel mechanism also brings new ways a smartphone can be used.

Best Foldable – Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

Samsung cemented its hold on the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 this year. The new phone packs larger displays, a better hinge design, a bigger battery, and faster-wired charging. It also packs the more powerful Snapdragon 865+ processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage for $1,999.

Best Budget 5G Phone – OnePlus Nord

The OnePlus Nord was announced this year as the first budget OnePlus phone in a long while. The mid-range phone gets our nod as the best budget 5G phone for its combination of specs and price. For a starting price of €399, you get a 90Hz AMOLED display, quad rear cameras, dual front-facing cameras, a Snapdragon 765G processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 4115mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. Are there cheaper 5G phones? Yes, there are but they come with tradeoffs such as an LCD display or an AMOLED display with no refresh rate, less RAM, less powerful processors, and slower charging technologies.

Honorable Mentions – The Moto G 5G Plus gets an honorable mention. It matches the OnePlus Nord in terms of the number of cameras, has a display with a high refresh rate albeit LCD, packs a massive 5000mAh battery that will last more than a day, and runs a near-stock version of Android. Its slightly lower clocked Snapdragon 765 processor will also handle anything you throw at it. It’s €399 for the 6+128GB version.

The realme 7 5G and the Mi 10 Lite 5G are also strong contenders and deserve to be mentioned.

Best flagship You Can’t Buy

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ and the Mi 10 Ultra tie for this category. The latter is expected to be sold in global markets but is yet to be available for purchase three months after it launched. In its home country, Huawei will be selling the phone in limited quantities thrice a week.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra which is Xiaomi’s best phone this year will not be sold outside China. So the only way to get it is to import the device from China.

The Mi Fan Kamal Ahamad probably didn’t expect a direct reply to his request, as the senior executive from the Chinese tech giant personally replied to his tweet on Twitter. Kamal wrote that “I will not get marry until I get the #Mi10TPro,” to which the Xiaomi India official responded with “haha! I think you are now ready to get married. Kamal Ahamad even tweeted again after receiving the Mi 10T Pro stating that he “Finally received this monster. The Mi 10T Pro display is indeed impressive. Most gorgeous phone. The Mi 10T 5G and Mi 10T Pro 5G have landed in Indonesia. The two flagship phones were announced earlier this week and are now available for pre-order.

Prior to the launch, we had thought only the Mi 10T Pro 5G will be announced in the country but surprisingly, the standard version was also unveiled. Both phones are available in a single configuration.

The Mi 10T 5G comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and is available in Black and Silver for a price tag of IDR 5,999,000 (~$426). The Mi 10T Pro 5G comes in the same colors but has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It is priced at IDR 6,999,000 (~$497).

The two phones have a 6.67-inch FHD+ LCD display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a punch hole at the top left corner of the screen for a 20MP selfie camera. You get a Snapdragon 865 processor that draws power from a 5000mAh battery in both devices.

Where they differ is in the camera configuration. The Mi 10T Pro 5G has a 108MP + 13MP ultrawide angle camera + 5MP macro camera on the back while the Mi 10T 5G has a 64MP + 13MP ultrawide + 5MP macro camera.

Regardless of the model you purchase, you get stereo speakers, NFC, Wi-Fi 6, an IR blaster, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and support for 33W fast charging. Both phones run MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out of the box.

The two phones are available for pre-order on Jingdong Indonesia and on the Xiaomi Indonesia website from today up until December 14. The first 200 people who pre-order will get a free pair of Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic while the first 200 who purchase on December 15, the first day it goes on sale, will get a free Mi 10000mAh Power Bank 3.

Xiaomi recently unveiled the Mi 10T 5G phones with the phone’s starting price of €449 (~$530) placing it on the leaderboard as one of the best 5G phones you can get for that price category.  The Mi 10T tags along with the Mi 10T Pro, both powered by a Snapdragon 865 chipset with a powerful camera system and big battery.

One area where Xiaomi threw in a surprise is the use of a 144Hz LCD screen instead of a high refresh rate OLED screen. In case you are wondering why,  a Xiaomi executive has elaborated on the decision to go with LCD in an interview with TechRadar.

Xiaomi’s product marketing manager Daniel Hoang Desjarlais reportedly stated that; “It is better to have a high-quality LCD, the best of the best LCD, versus a middling sort of AMOLED.”

The Xiaomi exec also mentioned eye strain as a reason to opt for LCD tech though. “There are issues with AMOLED and certain peoples’ eyes – I think it’s like 10% of the population, when looking at an AMOLED display, experience very heavy eye strain,” Mr Hoang Desjarlais is reported to have said.

However, adducing eye strain as an excuse is not really tenable considering that DC dimming has come to the rescue in that regard. The Mi 10T series is considerably cheaper than other flagship models and it is believed that other factors like pricing are also responsible for the adoption of LCD panels in the Mi 10T series.

In addition, Mr Hoang Desjarlais also elaborated on why they opted for a flat screen rather than a curved panel, noting that the majority of users preferred the former option.

“I’ve done quite a bit of polling and user research on this,” the executive was quoted as saying, “60% of users prefer the flat edge, or flat displays,” the Xiaomi exec added.

We can attest to this as an independent poll conducted by Gizmochina back in February also shows a large number of respondents prefer the flat panel.

After launching the Mi 10T 5G and Mi 10T Pro 5G in Europe, Xiaomi has announced the two devices in Malaysia.

The  Mi 10T Pro 5G is available in a single configuration of 8GB RAM + 256GB storage and is priced at RM 1,999 (~$481) which is significantly cheaper than the price tag in Europe which is €649 (~$765).

Interested buyers can grab it on Lazada in Cosmic Black, Lunar Silver, and Aurora Blue beginning October 9. Sadly, there are no free gifts available with orders unlike in Germany and Italy. Nevertheless, they are getting it at a much cheaper price. However, if you do a search on the site, there are some third-party resellers that have pre-order bundles with some nice free gifts including a wireless charging pad, power bank, selfie stick, car charger, and more.

The Mi 10T is also available in just one configuration – 8GB RAM + 128GB – and it is priced at RM 1,699 (~$409). It is available in Cosmic Black and Lunar Silver and will be available starting October 23.

Xiaomi India’s official Twitter handle shared a tweet about the upcoming flagship lineup, which includes the Mi 10T 5G and Mi 10T Pro 5G. Back in September, the company had officially launched the new series that arrived with a few upgrades to the previously launched flagship, Mi 10 series. Notably, the Mi 10 Lite, which was also recently found receiving the SIG certification was also expected to make its way to the Indian market, however, the tweet failed to have any mention of the mid range level handset.

For those unaware, the Mi 10T series sports one of the highest refresh rate displays ever found in a smartphone, with 144Hz panels. Although to achieve this, the company had to use IPS LCD screens, which Xiaomi claims is one of the best in the industry. The series sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor that also arrives with support for 5G, so it is future proofed in a manner since the newer standard of networking has yet to be commercially rolled out in the region. Today, Xiaomi had a global event during which it announced the Mi 10T series. The series includes the Mi 10T Pro, Mi 10T, and the Mi 10T Lite. All three devices pack displays with high refresh rates, Snapdragon processors, 5G, big batteries, and a ton of other features at affordable prices. This post is for the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro as we have a separate post for the Mi 10T Lite.

Mi 10T Pro and Mi 10T

The Mi 10T Pro is the top model of the series but it shares most of its features with the Mi 10T save for the main rear camera and configuration.

The two phones have a 6.67-inch FHD+ display with a hole punch and a 144Hz refresh rate. While they are LCD panels, Xiaomi says they are one of the best in the industry. The panels have a Delta E value of 0.63 and a JNCD (Just Noticeable Color Difference) value of 0.39.

There are also a bunch of other features such as Adaptive Sync, MEMC, Sunlight Mode 3.0, Reading Mode 3.0, and there is also a light sensor on the front and back of the phone for up to 4096 levels of brightness adjustment.

Powering the Mi 10T Pro and Mi 10T is a Snapdragon 865 processor with 6GB/8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage for the Mi 10T and 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage for the Mi 10T Pro.

The camera department is another selling point of the Mi 10T series. The pro model has a 108MP primary rear camera with optical image stabilization, 8K video recording. The standard model has a 64MP primary camera. They both have the same 13MP ultra-wide-angle and 5MP macro camera for a triple rear camera setup. Their 20MP selfie camera is also the same.

Xiaomi has pre-loaded the two phones with some amazing camera features such as Dual Video which allows you to record at the same time from both the front and rear cameras; Video Clones that allows users to capture “two selves” in the same video; and Time Lapse which is available on both the rear and selfie cameras. There are also new color filters, long exposure, and a timed burst mode for still photos.

The Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro have side-mounted fingerprint scanners, stereo speakers, 3D audio recording, an x-axis linear motor, NFC, Wi-Fi 6, an IR blaster, Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides including the camera housing. They also have the same 5000mAh battery capacity with support for 33W wired fast charging and run Android 10 out of the box.

Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro Price and Availability

The Mi 10T is €499 for the 6+128GB version while the 8+128GB version will sell for €549. The Mi 10T Pro will sell for €599 for the 8+128GB version and the 8+256GB version will be sold for €649. The two phones will go on sale tomorrow on Mi.com and a host of other partner stores including AliExpress for international buyers.

We are a few days from the launch of the Mi 10T series. The new smartphones from Xiaomi will be unveiled on September 30 and the launch will be live-streamed. While we already know what the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro look like, more press renders have leaked that show the phones from all angles. The images are also accompanied with the full specs of the two devices.

The photos and spec sheet were posted on Twitter by Sudhanshu Ambhore (@sudhanshu1414) and they show the two phones in black and reveal that the new phones will have high refresh rates, side-mounted fingerprint scanners, and a Snapdragon 865 processor.

Mi 10T 5G

The Mi 10T 5G will have a 6.67-inch IPS LCD display that has a hole in the top left corner for a 20MP camera. The display has an FHD+ resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and a 144Hz refresh rate. It also has a DCI-P3 color gamut and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

As previously reported, the Snapdragon 865 is the processor under the hood and it comes along with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The phone will pack a 5000mAh battery with support for 33W wired fast charging.

There are three cameras on the Mi 10T and not four though the design makes it look like there are four. The circle above the LED flash doesn’t house a camera. The main camera is a 64MP sensor and the other two are a 13MP ultrawide angle camera and a 5MP macro camera. The spec sheet says the back is also covered in Gorilla Glass 5.

The Mi 10T 5G also has stereo speakers, Hi-Res Audio, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, a USB-C port flanked by the SIM tray and speaker grille, and an IR blaster at the top. As seen in the renders, the Mi 10T 5G also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. There is no audio jack, which should not be a surprise. The phone will be available in Black and Silver, will weigh 218 grams, and measure 165.1 x 76.4 x 9.33 millimeters.

Mi 10T Pro 5G

The Mo 10T Pro 5G also has a 6.67-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display. Its refresh rate is also 144Hz and the hole in the screen is home to a 20MP front-facing camera too.

Those who opt for the Pro version also get a Snapdragon 865 processor and 8GB of RAM. However, they have the option of choosing between purchasing the phone with 128GB or 256GB of storage space.

Where the Pro gets its name from is actually the camera department. It swaps the 64MP sensor of the standard model for a 108MP sensor with optical image stabilization. It also has a 13MP ultrawide angle camera and a 5MP macro camera.
