Xiaomi is about to turn a dozen years old, and ahead of that, company founder Lei Jun has been busy commemorating some of its most popular phones. Yesterday, a poll posted by Jun showed that Xiaomi Mi 6 has continued to be a fan favorite, beating the likes of Mi 11 Ultra and Mi 10 by a significant margin.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 was launched back in April 2016, making it exactly five years old now, but has amassed a cult following over the years. It was the first flagship phone from Xiaomi with a dual rear camera setup but was also the last to have a 16:9 display with thick bezels on the top and bottom, making it a very memorable design. Its successor — the Xiaomi Mi 8 — had a kind-of bezel-less design with a notch implementation and people weren’t too fond of notches at the time.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 also had a very slim and light build and was fairly compact with its 5.15″ screen, although there was a ceramic back variant too with an increased weight.

Lei Jun had earlier revealed three of his all-time favorite models and the trio also included the Xiaomi Mi 6. Last year, it was officially revealed that there are still over 2 million active Mi 6 users and it’s probable that the figure hasn’t gone down much since. This explains the 21,000 votes for the phone on the poll.

Such was the love for the phone that Xiaomi was even tipped in 2020 to re-launch it in a more modern form-factor, complete with a bezel-less design. However, the project was canceled since the model never turned into reality.

The Mi 6 was Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone of 2017. It has been four years since its release. The handset may make a comeback this year just like the recently launched Redmi Note 8 2021 Edition.

Earlier last month, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun revealed that there are still more than 2 million Mi 6 users. A few days later, a netizen on Weibo asked the company founder to release a new compact smartphone with a Mi 6-like design. 

As per this person, the Mi 11 Lite Lite 5G (aka Mi 11 Youth Edition) is still a big device despite its minimal thickness. Therefore, he is looking for an even smaller handset. Lei Jun simply replied ‘Received’ (read feedback received) to this netizen’s comment.

On the same day, Xiaomiui came across a new Xiaomi device codenamed ‘mercury’. This mysterious phone will feature a 120Hz display, 12MP pixel binning main camera, ultra-wide camera, and 5x telephoto camera.

As per Xiaomiui (via MySmartPrice), this phone could go official as Mi 6 2021 Edition. Because Xiaomi released a limited edition Mercury Silver color variant of the Mi 6. This and other links suggest the upcoming Xiaomi ‘mecury’ to be Mi 6 2021 Edition.

Unfortunately, the claim cannot be verified at the moment. Anyway, we expect to learn more about this smartphone in the coming days. Perhaps, it could be indeed the rumored Mi 6 2021 Edition or something else altogether.

The Mi 6 was announced in 2017 and is one of Xiaomi’s most popular Mi flagship phones. Last year, there were rumors that Xiaomi had plans to relaunch the phone with newer internals and a revamped design but unfortunately, that never happened. Today, Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, revealed an interesting fact about the Mi 6.

The top executive took to Weibo to announce that there are 2.15 million current users of the Mi 6. That is a significant number of users for a phone that is more than 4 years old, most especially an Android one.

The Mi 6 launched with a 5.15-inch FHD LCD screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It had a Snapdragon 835 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of non-expandable storage. For its cameras, Xiaomi included two 12MP sensors – one served as the primary camera while the other was a telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The front-facing camera was an 8MP sensor.

Under its glass (or ceramic) back, the Mi 6 packed a 3350mAh battery capacity with support for 18W fast charging. It didn’t have an official IP rating but it had a water-repellent coating. Xiaomi also didn’t include an audio jack but it had stereo speakers. It also had an IR blaster and NFC.

The Mi 6 launched in April 2017 with Android 7.1 Nougat and its last Android update was to Android 9 Pie.

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 11 flagship smartphone as a successor to the company’s Mi 10 lineup of last year which includes several models. Now, the company has shared an interesting detail about the adaptation of Mi 10 smartphones.

As per the company, the users of the Mi 6 smartphone launched in 2017 were among the first to upgrade their devices to the Mi 10. This is an interesting share from the company as it hints at Xiaomi flaunting about the device’s lifecycle.

The company is implying that the users didn’t feel the need to upgrade their Mi 6 smartphone for about three years until the Mi 10 series launched. Within that timeframe, Xiaomi had launched Mi 8 and Mi 9 series in the market.

As for the specifications, the Xiaomi Mi 10 features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ S-AMOLED 3D display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 90Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass 5 on top. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC.

The device shipped with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage but lacks support for microSD card slot. It features a 108-megapixel ultra-clear primary sensor, a 13-megapixel superwide lens, a 2-megapixel depth assist lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens.

On the front side, there’s a 20-megapixel snapper for taking selfies. It runs the MIUI custom user interface based on Android 10 operating system and is powered by a 4,780mAh battery with Quick Charge 4+ and USB-PD 3.0 supprot.

Today we are not going to talk about any new devices. Instead, we will go through the history of Xiaomi Mi series smartphones, so that you can get a better idea of what kind of brand Xiaomi exactly is. And how they have evolved over the past few years. 

The year 2020 marks the tenth year of Xiaomi, a company that is undoubtedly an industry legend. In this decade, Xiaomi has not only been ranked among the top five in the world in terms of smartphone sales year after year but has also made it to the top 500 companies in the world. And in its tenth year, the Xiaomi Mi 10 marked the beginning of a move away from being extremely cost-effective flagships and into the ranks of high-end and premium phones.

But we can’t talk about Xiaomi’s success without talking about its flagship phones. So let’s go back in time and see how the youngest ever Fortune 500 company went from zero to tens of billions of dollars in market capitalization.

What you may not know is that in the first year of Xiaomi, its first product launched was not a mobile phone, but a customized operating system based on Android called MIUI, whose smooth, user-friendly experience built up a good reputation for Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Mi 1

And in the second year, i.e. in August 2011, the first Xiaomi phone, the Xiaomi Mi 1 with MIUI was launched. In the first online sale of the phone, 300 thousand units were sold out in just 5 minutes. The popularity was not only due to the fluid experience of MIUI but also because of its unbelievable pricing strategy. While having a similar configuration to the Samsung Galaxy S2, it was only half the price of the S2. Coming with a Snapdragon S3 1.5GHz dual-core chipset, a 4-inch display with 245ppi, and 1GB RAM, all of which were top configurations back then, the Mi 1 was priced at 1999RMB, which converted to around 300USD. At that time, no one could do that, except for Xiaomi.

Since then, the number 1999, has become Xiaomi’s lucky number, and it’s like a Magic spell.

But to be honest, the design of the first Mi phone was not outstanding at all, which also became one of the most criticized points of the Xiaomi flagships in the latter years. 

Xiaomi Mi 2

In the summer of 2012, Xiaomi released the Mi 2, which not only had an upgraded SoC but also had a bigger screen with a 342ppi resolution, which was even better than the Apple iPhone 4s. And it was equipped with 2GB of RAM, which was not common at that time. The Mi 2 continued Mi 1’s trend of offering superb value for money and also continued to gain strong support from Mi fans at the same price of 1999RMB. Hundreds of thousands Mi 2 in stock were sold out within minutes each time. 

Xiaomi Mi 2S

However, the most famous model of Mi 2 series is not the Mi 2. Instead, it’s the Mi 2s released in 2013. In that year, Xiaomi released 3 phones: the Mi 2S, the Redmi 1,

and the Mi 3. The Mi 2S was an improved version of the Mi 2, with an updated MIUI, a new snapdragon 600 SoC, and, as usual, the same price at 1999RMB. 

While the Android phones of the same period were relatively less powerful, the Mi 2s had a clear advantage at the time with excellent performance and powerful software support. And thanks to the long official support from MIUI 4 to MIUI 9, the Mi 2s has become one of the longest-lived models among all the Mi phones.

Because of its strong performance, it is still able to run some of the mainstream apps of today. Even now there are some users who haven’t given up on this model. That’s why the 2s was also known as a classic magic model by Mi fans in China, just like the iPhone 4 for Apple.

Although Mi phones have had great sales success from the Mi 1 to the Mi 2s, too many consumers complained about the lack of stock all the time, many of them started questioning Xiaomi as a ‘monkey tricking’ company that uses thirsty marketing strategies to consume users’ patience and enthusiasm. But the partial reason might be that as a startup lacking production capacity, Xiaomi didn’t have the ability to quickly respond to the huge market demand. 

Redmi 1

By the way, the first Redmi phone was released in the same year. As Xiaomi’s first sub-brand, Redmi took on the role of Xiaomi’s foothold in the budget market. For only around 120 USD, you could get a branded quality phone that was good value for money, which was a rarity in the global phone market at that time. More than 9 million pre-sales orders also proved the Redmi brand was on the right path. And the Xiaomi brand continued to build up its strength to make a real high-end flagship. 

Xiaomi Mi 3

Now coming back to the Mi 3 flagship released later the year. Xiaomi abandoned the mediocre design of the predecessors and changed it into a totally new design with a more angular appearance. It came with the global debut of the snapdragon 800 soc and an upgraded 1080P display with a 441PPI resolution. And the M3 was the first Xiaomi phone that had a non-removable rear cover. Thanks to the more integrated body, its battery capacity was improved to 3050mAh. Even with all these significant upgrades, again, Xiaomi continued the pricing strategy of starting from 1999RMB, not disappointing fans who believed they could get the phone at the amazing 1999RMB price tag. 

Clearly, it must have taken Xiaomi a lot of courage and efforts to bring such an important product at such an affordable price tag. However, the Mi 3 became a unique model in the history of Mi Phones with people’s polarized reviews. In addition to the praises about the upgrades we mentioned, some accused it of copying the industrial design of the Nokia Lumia series and complained about its poor build quality. 

Xiaomi Mi 4

In the summer of 2014, after the controversial design of Mi 3, the Mi 4 was released. For the Mi 4, Xiaomi put its focus on the phone’s design upgrades. With the slogan of ‘a steel plate’s artistic journey’, it was the first time a Mi phone used a metal stainless steel frame. And shifting from the angular style of the Mi 3, the Mi 4 returned to the design of the Mi 1 and Mi 2 series. The back cover had a special pattern design, and the whole machine got a huge boost in build quality. Unsurprisingly, 2014 was another year of big sales for Xiaomi.

In 2015, there were no updates of the Mi series. Instead, a new series was launched – the Xiaomi Note 1. As Xiaomi’s first attempt to hit the high-end market, the new Note 1 was not successful. The lack of a fingerprint reader and the four-month delay in the launch of the snapdragon 810 SoC due to overheating issues, left the Note 1 behind most competitors as soon as it went on sale. The lack of a widely praised flagship model in 2015 hinted at the oncoming darkness for Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Mi 5

In early 2016, the Mi 5 eventually came out. With its first attempt at a ceramic back cover, a white front face, a home button with a fingerprint sensor, and the latest Snapdragon 820, it was supposed to sell very well for a starting price of just 1999RMB. but the sales of the Mi 5 again was delayed by nearly eight months and it was out of stock for a long time after it went on sale. The delay affected its sales significantly, and it was the time when the brand was called out most by fans for its ‘hunger marketing’ Basically fans were frustrated that Xiaomi’s best products were not easily available for sale. 

Mi Mix 1

But fortunately, there was another heavyweight that took to the stage in 2016, the Mi Mix 1. For the first time in its history, users saw and admired Xiaomi’s industrial design capabilities on the Mix 1. It came with a full-screen design with three super-narrow bezels and a selfie camera on the chin below., which made it pretty stunning at that time.

Even today, it still looks pretty impressive. The ceramic back cover is as gentle as jade, and the camera and fingerprint reader are placed in the upper center, in line with the symmetrical aesthetic. It’s no exaggeration to say that it has to a certain extent inspired future smartphone screen design. However, the Mix 1 was stuck in the stage of being a concept phone due to the difficulties in production. It wasn’t mass-produced, so there was no way to salvage the decline in sales in 2016. In these two years, Xiaomi suffered its first setback. 

Xiaomi Mi 6

Then came April of 2017, when the phone with the best reputation ever in Xiaomi history, the Mi 6 debuted. It came with a new home button integrated with a fingerprint reader without opening a hole, and also added a telephoto camera. Besides the commendable design and the excellent build quality, the debut of Snapdragon 835 SoC also made it almost impeccable at that time.

The Snapdragon 835 was the best Android chipset in recent years with its excellent power and cooling performance. With almost no shortcomings, it was no longer priced at that familiar 1999RMB, and became the first model in the Mi series to start at more than 1999RMB. However, the 2299RMB starting price didn’t stop fans from purchasing the device. The success of the Mi 6 finally broke the price barrier of its flagships and further verified the importance of the product quality and performance. And so far, the Mi 6 is still the only Xiaomi phone that has never dropped in price from launch to exit. 

Xiaomi Mi 8

In 2018, Xiaomi skipped the Mi 7 and released the Mi 8. The Mi 8 has been controversial since its release. It did look like the iPhone. And the Xiaomi Mi 8 became the least distinctive model of the whole series. Even the infrared emitter, a standard feature that Mi series pride themselves on, was removed. Despite this, sales of the Mi 8 continued to rise because of its excellent value for money. At that time, you only needed to pay 2699RMB to get a flagship having a snapdragon 845 Soc, dual-band GPS, and infrared facial recognition for unlocking even in the dark. And more importantly, this was also the first time that Xiaomi started paying attention to the phone’s camera. Meanwhile, the camera department started to run independently to serve all the Xiaomi phones. 

Xiaomi Mi 9

In 2019, the Xiaomi Mi 9, codenamed ‘battle angel’, was launched. It featured three rear cameras, a Primary camera, a wide-angle camera and another telephoto camera, first time achieving three stages of focal length coverage. The Mi 9 scored 107 in the DXOMark test at that time, placing itself in third place. It’s also the first time that we really saw Xiaomi being praised for its camera system. Another selling point of the Mi9 was the thinness of 7.61mm and the lightweight body of 173g. With a curved glass cover, the phone did feel pretty impressive when holding in hands.

But the compromise of the Mi 9 was that the battery capacity had to be cut down to 3300mAh. The limited battery life also became the main complaint for the Mi 9, which, to some extent, affected the overall sales of the model. 

At the same time, the Xiaomi founder, Lei Jun said at the launch that the Mi 9 selling for 2999RMB was the last phone to be priced at under 3000RMB. 

Over the years, Xiaomi prepared well for the transition to the high-end market. 

Xiaomi Mi 10

As expected, the Mi 10 powered by Snapdragon 865, which started at 3999RMB, was released this spring. The Mi 10 comes with a 100MP main camera, a 90Hz curved hole-punch display, LPDDR5 RAM plus UFS 3 ROM, and, most importantly, 5G network support. However, although the price was almost twice the initial price of 1999RMB, there were fewer complaints about the Mi 10’s pricing strategy. Compared to other brand flagships, Mi 10 is still one of the most competitive models in the market in its price segment. And besides the Mi 10 itself, Xiaomi offered several models of the Mi 10 series which were developed for different market segments and regions, such as Mi 10 Pro, 10 Lite, 10T, and so on. No doubt the most famous model is the Mi 10 Ultra specially made to commemorate Xiaomi’s 10TH Anniversary. It’s almost the first Mi flagship that took an all-around lead among Android phones and had such high pricing. 

Xiaomi has been recognized as a special brand to make phones with great value for money. Although the flagship Mi series will no longer come with a mid-range price tag, the sub-brand Redmi has taken up the market of budget cost-effective phones. For the past ten years, Xiaomi’s pattern has been imitated by a number of phone brands. However, most of them failed and didn’t survive in this highly competitive industry. 

On the other hand, we do have to add that Xiaomi is not perfect. At least it’s still facing the dilemma between pursuing higher brand value and maintaining its existing user base. And no doubt the success of the Mi 10 Ultra has encouraged Xiaomi to break the dilemma. 

The Mi 11 is about to be released. And we’re really looking forward to Xiaomi bringing us a surprise.

Usually, most of the news related to Xiaomi is about the company launching a new product. For a change, the company’s CEO has shared his list of three favorite smartphones instead of teasing a new product for launch.

Leu Jun, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi has listed the Mi MIX 2 smartphone as his most favorite. He adds that the phone has a ceramic body and is the first flagship smartphone in the world to have a unibody ceramic design.

One of the reasons behind this being his favorite is the process of getting it made. He says that each piece of unibody ceramic must be sintered at 1400-degree Celsius for seven days and involves some other processes as well.

The second smartphone in the list is the Xiaomi Mi 6 Bright Silver Discovery Edition. He goes on to explain that the phone has a vacuum-plated glass back shell and can be used as a mirror. The bright stainless steel frame gives the phone an excellent look and feel.

Lei Jun has mentioned Mi 10 Pro as the third favorite smartphone, which is the company’s first flagship smartphone to be available globally. He adds that with the Mi 10 Pro, Xiaomi hasn’t focused on reducing cost but has instead focused on providing the ultimate experience for those who are looking for a high-end smartphone.

Smartphone enthusiasts have always been keen on tweaking with their handsets. This interest can be in the form of flashing different customs ROMs to even a full fledged Microsoft Windows operating system. Now, the Xiaomi Mi 6 runs the latter, as it operates on the x64 ARM based system for Windows 10.

After successfully flashing the OS, users are met with the keyboard input selection screen once the device begins operating on Windows 10 system. Notably, Windows 10 x64 ARM system isn’t a cut down or smaller version of the popular operating system and can run similar to the desktop version. In other words, it can run .exe files and is equipped with features that can be found in the regular software as well.

The Mi 6 is one of Xiaomi’s most iconic phones. It is also one of its most popular flagships. Today, unconfirmed reports going round say the manufacturer is planning to re-launch the phone but with new specs and probably some changes in the design. The phone is expected to cater to those who require a small but powerful device.

According to Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi is working on a device with a small display but which is yet to be greenlit. In a separate post, he adds that for it to be a success, the demand must be high to be worth it.

The leaker mentions that most display manufacturers have already adjusted their production lines to churn out large screens for phones, so if they are going to make a small display for Xiaomi, it will be a custom line that will be expensive. Xiaomi will need to carry out extensive market research to determine if it will be profitable to make such a device.

In related news, Xiaomi’s director of new media posted a question on Weibo asking how much folks will be willing to pay for a new version of the Mi 6 with the following specs – same size and shape as the Mi 6; a notch or punch hole; a single rear camera or dual rear cameras; a battery capacity that lasts up to one day; a Snapdragon 700 series chipset (or Snapdragon 800 series chipset if it will not affect the weight and size of the phone); and NFC.

This is surely a market survey for the upcoming device and the result will influence Xiaomi’s final decision on whether it should go ahead with the project or cancel it.

The news has been well-received especially by owners of the Mi 6 flagship which launched in 2017 as it means the 2-year-old flagship can be held on to for longer. Its battery replacement is supposed to cost ¥99/15 (¥59 cost of battery + ¥40 for the replacement charge). However, the price slash means you only have to pay ¥49.5 (~$7).

The price slash began yesterday and it will run until the 10th of November. You also get a free screen protector applied for you. We have no info about the price for other models but since this is limited to China, not a lot of our readers will be able to take advantage of the price slash.

Google has officially released the latest Android 10 and some of the smartphones have already started receiving this new update. While the Google Pixel series, Essential Phone and Xiaomi’s K20 and K20 Pro have got the stable build, phones like OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro are on the beta build.

The source code of the new Android 10 is already up at AOSP and thanks to it, custom ROMs based on Android 10 have started surfacing online. In the latest development, Android 10-based custom ROMs for a few Xiaomi smartphones, including Poco F1, Mi 6, Mi 8, and the Redmi Note 5 have been released.

The popular Poco F1 has now received unofficial Android 10, thanks to the Potato Open Sauce Project (POSP) custom ROM. The ROM is not yet stable and there are some issues such as the fingerprint scanner is not working for some users. It also lacks some features but it’s alright given the early days of development.

The same ROM is also available for the Redmi Note 5 (India) and the Redmi Note 5 Plus (Global). However, the ROM is marked as alpha and it’s advisable to use this only if you are experience in this. It too has issues with the fingerprint scanner and the thermal engine, among others.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is also receiving Android 10 through unofficial LineageOS 17 build (link) and has only one bug listed which is related to Bluetooth playback. The Mi 6 is finally getting a stable Android Pie update. The 2017 flagship which launched with Android Nougat out of the box is the latest device to get a slice of Pie.

The phone got an update to Android Oreo last year and also got Xiaomi’s own MIUI 10 update but there were no plans to update it to Android Pie when Xiaomi released the list of devices getting Pie back in October 2018. It eventually got Android Pie beta in April (global version in June). It is nice to finally see it get a stable version of Android Pie beta.

The update is rolling out as version 10.4.1.0 to users already. As usual, it is rolling out gradually to users. If you do not wish to wait, you can download the full firmware file and manually install it by copying it into your phone’s root storage and choosing the update package when you opt for manual installation under System Update.

The Mi 6 has a 5.15-inch FHD display protected by Gorilla Glass 4. It has a Snapdragon 835 processor, up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There are dual 12MP cameras on the back of the phone and an 8MP front-facing camera. It also has a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and a 3350mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0.

Android Pie is definitely the last major OS update for the Mi 6 but it should still get updated to MIUI 11 later.

Xiaomi is adding a new SOS feature to closed beta version of the MIUI 10 developer ROM. This feature allows users to contact a pre-defined number in case of emergency. The feature is currently available to five Xiaomi devices. In the near future, the feature will be also brought to other devices.

The SOS feature that has been added to developer ROM can be accessed by pressing the power button 5 times and then it will send the help information to the emergency contact number. As it can be seen in the image below, users can activate the feature by going to Settings > SOS > Emergency Help. As of this writing, the feature is available to devices such as Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi MIX 2, Mi 6, Mi 5 and Redmi Note 4X

By releasing the SOS feature through closed beta Xiaomi could be testing the feature on the first five devices in China. It will be soon adding the function to the developer ROM for all the Chinese models by the end of September.

On May 31, Xiaomi had announced the all new MIUI 10 ROM. At the beginning of June, it had rolled out the Developer ROM closed beta in China for first batch of devices and the same devices had received public beta by the end of the month. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has released the developer ROM closed beta to the second batch of devices.

The first batch of devices that were treated with MIUI 10 Developer ROM included Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Mi 6, Mi MIX 2S, Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Redmi S2 and Redmi Note 5. Since the registrations for the Developer ROM closed beta ended yesterday in China, the company has made it available to the second batch of Xiaomi phones starting from today. After the closed beta testing comes to an end, the public beta is likely to arrive for the same second batch of devices by the end of this month.

The second batch of 17 Xiaomi phones that are now receiving the MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta are Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5S, Mi 5X, Mi 5C, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 5A, Note 5A Prime, Redmi Note 4X (Snapdragon variant), Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5, Redmi 5A and Redmi 4X.

The company has stated that the arrival of the public beta of Mi 5X will be delayed. The specific release time for the smartphone will be announced through its social media channels. By this, Xiaomi is bringing the latest MIUI 10 to a total of 27 smartphones.

The MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta can be installed in two ways. Xiaomi had launched the Mi 6 and Mi MIX 2 flagship phones in China last year. However, among the two phones, India only received the Mi MIX 2. This year, Xiaomi has already launched the Mi MIX 2S smartphone in China. Fresh information revealed by none other than Xiaomi co-founder and CEO Lei Jun suggests that the country will not be receiving the Mi MIX 2S flagship phone. He has stated that Mi A2 is one of the forthcoming phones for India.

While speaking to reporters at the newly built headquarters at Bangalore, Jun said that “I think the Mi Mix 2 might not be the best fit for some of the target audiences in India. It uses four-sided curved ceramic body, and 18K gold coating. A lot of these things might not necessarily be suitable for the Indian market. Actually, it’s a piece of art. The Indian market will still take some time to accept this product. So with regards to whether we should work on the Mix or not, I and Manu (Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi’s Global VP and Indian Managing Director) shared different opinions. I always insist that we should not just blindly take all products to India. That might not be appropriate.”

Through Jun’s word it can be understood that the Mi MIX 2 was not received well by the Indian audience. It includes some features like the wireless charging which is not something Indian buyers will purchasing a high-end phone.

In the past too, the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship had received poor reception in India because of which the company had reportedly decided to skip the launch of Mi 6 in the country. The company has been doing very well in India in the past two years, but it has failed to attract buyer to purchase its premium phones. Xiaomi is currently leading the Indian market mainly because of its highly popular mid-range phones.

According to Jun, “It’s mainly due to the fact that we’ve been operating in India for a relatively short period of time. We need to do things step by step. We already have five successful lines. Our next logical focus would be between 15,000 and 20,000. Then 20,000 and 30,000. Then 30,000 and above. We’ll introduce them step by step. We believe in the next two years you’ll find us present in these three price bands.”

Jun added that, “Our team has limited bandwidth, so right now there are no plans to bring the Mi Mix 2S to India.” He also confirmed that India will be receiving an Android One phone. This could be the rumored Mi A2 phone that is pegged to replace the Mi A1, Xiaomi’s first Android One phone that was launched in September last year. As far as premium phone for the country is concerned, Xiaomi CEO believes that a flagship smartphone designed for Indian users will be available in 2019 by the same period.

It was recently reported that Xiaomi is now only selling the 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage model of the Xiaomi Mi 6 and higher variants like 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage are no longer available for buying. This suggests that the Chinese manufacturer could be gearing up to announce the Xiaomi Mi 7 flagship phone. Fresh photos of the alleged Mi 7 smartphone have appeared on Weibo to reveal its appearance and some of its features.

The alleged Xiaomi Mi 7 can be seen in white color in the newly leaked photos. The sides of the phone seem to be sporting a stainless-steel frame. The bottom edge of the phone is equipped with an external speaker, a USB-C port and a microphone. The two antenna strips on the bottom edge of the phone are clearly visible.

The images also reveal that like the predecessor model, the Mi 7 does not feature a 3.5mm audio jack. The image showing the right edge of the phone shows the presence of buttons for power and volume. It also gives a glimpse of a vertically aligned dual camera setup. It seems that the LED flash could be placed between the dual lenses.

The left side of the phone only features a SIM card slot. Unfortunately, there is no image showing the frontside of the Mi 7. It is speculated that the Mi 7 will be equipped with a notched display like the iPhone X.

Recent rumors have revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 7 could be the second phone from the company to arrive with wireless charging feature for its 3,400mAh battery. It goes without saying that the smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 845. It may not feature more than 6 GB of RAM. The Mi 7 is also rumored to feature 3D facial recognition feature.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has recently hinted that the Mi 7 will be coming with under display fingerprint sensor. However, recent reports have claimed that there could be two variants of the Mi 7. The smaller may feature 5.65-inch display and it may not in-screen fingerprint reader. The Mi 7 Plus is pegged to arrive with features like 6.1-inch display, Snapdragon 845, 4,000mAh battery and under display fingerprint reader.

During the November 11 sales, its 4 GB RAM + 64 GB model was introduced with cheaper cost of 2,299 Yuan (~$365) while the 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage models continued to sell with respective pricing of 2,499 Yuan (~$395) and 2,899 Yuan (~$459). However, the 6 GB RAM variants are no longer listed on the official website of Xiaomi and retailing partners like JD.com. The company is currently selling only the 4 GB RAM edition of the Mi 6 in China. This could be a hint that Xiaomi may launch the Mi 7 flagship smartphone soon.

Since Xiaomi had launched the Mi 6 on April 19, the rumor mill is now speculating that the Xiaomi Mi 7 may debut around the same time this month. Xiaomi had consistently teased the different features of the Mi MIX 2S couple of weeks in advance before announcing it on March 27. Moreover, the company had confirmed the March 27 launch date for Mi MIX 2S well in advance on Feb. 25. Judging by this, it does not seem that the Mi 7 will be debut in this month. However, its launch date seems to be around the corner.

Previous reports have revealed that the Xiaomi may release the Mi 7 in two versions. Both the models may feature an OLED display. It is speculated that under-display fingerprint scanner will be only available on the Mi 7 Plus.  The Mi 7 may feature FHD+ OLED display whereas the Mi 7 Plus may house a 6.01-inch FHD+ OLED screen.

Last year, Xiaomi launched the Mi 5c and Mi 5X (Mi A1) as less powerful variants of 2016’s Mi 5 flagship. It appears we may be getting a successor to the Mi 5X, which is unsurprisingly called the Mi 6X.

A new leak regarding the upcoming device has surfaced in form of a photo of the phone’s rear. This is not the first time a leak of the Mi 6X has been seen. About a month ago, a photo of a TPU case was seen online.

Just like the first leak, the Mi 6X is shown sporting dual rear cameras arranged vertically and positioned on the left. This deviates from the horizontal arrangement of the Mi 5X. The image also shows the LED flash will sit in between the two lens, similar to Apple’s iPhone X.

However, there is another hole in the middle of the phone. It is obvious from its size that this is not for the fingerprint scanner and so we are in the dark as to what will sit in the hole.

The rest of the design is similar to that of the Mi 5X. It has the same antenna line design and the same curved sides too. It is also made of metal.

Specs of the Mi 6X are currently unknown. However, if we are to go by the specs of the Mi 5X, we expect the 6X will also have a bigger screen, a bigger battery, and a less powerful processor than the Mi 6.

Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed that the Mi 6X exists, so there is a chance these leaks are not genuine. We advise you to take them with a pinch of salt.

Xiaomi has been busy working on a stable version of the latest iteration of its custom version of Android, MIUI 9, so it didn’t pay much attention to Android 8.0 Oreo. Now that the roll-out has begun hitting devices, it can now focus its attention on Android 8.0 Oreo.

Report reaching us says Xiaomi has begun recruiting beta testers for Android 8.0 for its flagship device – the Mi 6. This is a closed beta and the selection may take a few weeks. Selected users will get to use the closed beta version for a month or so before it is then opened to more devices.  A developer version will then be released as a public beta.

The pattern is similar to last year’s when it wanted to begin rolling out Android Nougat. We expect more devices to join the closed beta program before the end of the year and a public beta will be made available in January. A final stable update will arrive much later, most likely after the Mi 7 and a bunch of other new devices have been announced.

Xiaomi launched its MIUI 9 earlier this year in July. However, the company delayed the rollout of the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM by around three months. Recently, Xiaomi announced that the new MIUI version will start rolling out in India from November 2.

However, it appears that the update is now rolling out ahead of the company’s plan. Some users with Mi 6 and Mi Max 2 smartphone have already started receiving the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM update.

MIUI V9.0.1.0.NCAMEI firmware version is currently being rolled out to the Mi 6, while MIUI V9.0.1.0.NDDMIEI is the firmware version that is being sent to the Mi Max 2. The update is of around 568MB.

The MIUI 9 Global ROM has already passed the beta testing stage and the company had also started pushing MIUI 9 Stable ROM to select Mi users in China earlier this month. The company is expected to roll out the stable ROM update in batches, just the way it handled the release of the Developer ROM.

Earlier, MIUI Marketing Deputy Director, Huang Longzhon had said that the stable version is normally rolled out within two months of releasing developer version, but since MIUI 9 is a new system, it has taken more time to prepare stable version.

The MIUI 9 brings several new features to the table such as deep level system optimization, new icons, and new animations for launching and closing apps, simple home screen edition, among others. It also comes with features like split-screen, search for apps in the Dual apps mode and better blocklist rules.

Along with some new features, a lot of the existing ones have also been improved, including Silent/DND timer, floating notifications, button and gesture shortcuts, among others.

Apart from India, as of now, there is no information about the rollout of this MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM update to other regions where Mi users are located.

On November 2, the company has also scheduled a launch event in which it will unveil its new selfie-centric smartphone series to take on the likes of Oppo and Vivo.

Earlier today, Xiaomi unveiled three new products – the Mi Notebook Pro, Mi MIX 2, and Mi Note 3. The Mi Note 3 is the most surprising of all three as it has redefined what Xiaomi’s Mi Note series stands for.

It is no longer the flagship phablet that competes against rivals like the Galaxy Note series and Huawei Mate series but has now been reduced to a larger but less powerful version of the flagship Mi series, in this case the Mi 6. To further complicate things, Xiaomi even priced it the same as the Mi 6.

This is a comparison of both devices to see which one truly deserves your money.

Display

This is the single most visible difference between both phones when placed side by side. Yes, some folks may not realize that the shades of blue are different.

There is really no winner here as it is a matter of choice. If you like your device small and compact, buy the Mi 6. If you want a bigger one, go for the Mi Note 3. Both displays are IPS LCDs and most people won’t notice the difference in ppi actually.

Processor

The Snapdragon 835 is the most powerful Qualcomm processor in the market right now. It also features the most powerful Adreno GPU (540). Add the fact that it is a 10nm chip with greater efficiency and lower power consumption and also has support for faster uplink and downlink speeds. Then its easy to see why it bests the 14nm Snapdragon 660 SoC.

The Snapdragon 660 is not a slouch either. It will handle anything you throw at it just not as fast as the Snapdragon 835. The Mi 6 wins this round.

Cameras

The Mi 6 and Mi Note 3 both have the same rear camera configuration. A 12MP 1.25um f/1.8 wide-angle lens paired with a 12MP 1.0um f/2.6 telephoto lens. However, Xiaomi says the Mi Note 3 produces better portrait images as the algorithms have been improved.

The Mi Note 3 also wins in the front camera category. The 16MP f/2.0 sensor comes with an upgraded beauty software for breathtaking selfies. The 8MP camera on the Mi 6 isn’t bad judging from reviews but if you are a selfie lover, you are better off with the Mi Note 3.

Storage

You may be wondering why there is a comparison for storage since they both come with the same capacities. The difference is the type. The Mi 6 uses UFS storage but the Mi Note 3 uses eMMC 5.1 which has slower read and write speeds.

IP Rating

The Mi 6 is nearly waterproof. If Xiaomi had added a rubber seal to the USB type-c port, you would be able to take it swimming. However, splash resistance is better than no resistance at all which is why the Mi 6 wins this round.

Battery

The Mi 6 is a 5.15-inch phone that packs a 3350mAh battery. The Mi Note 3 is bigger at 5.5-inches and comes with a bigger 3500mAh battery. Until we get to see a full review, we can’t decide on the winner here. Though we expect the difference won’t be much but the Mi Note 3 should still take the lead.

Price

As at the time of writing, the black 64GB Mi 6 is priced at ¥2499 ($383) on Xiaomi’s official website. The blue and black 128GB model sells for ¥2899 ($444). The ceramic black Mi 6 with 128GB goes for ¥2999 ($460).

The black Mi Note 3 64GB version also sells for ¥2499 ($383) and its  128GB version sells for ¥2899 ($444). It doesn’t have a ceramic black version but a blue variant with 128GB of storage sells for ¥2999 ($460).

Conclusion

So for the same amount, you can pick up the more powerful and faster Mi 6 but with a smaller battery and display. However we do not think splurging the same amount on the Mi Note 3 because of its improved cameras, slightly larger battery and bigger display is a wise decision. If you want all that, we advice you add a little more and get the base model of the OnePlus 5 or save yourself some cash and purchase the Mi 5X or Mi A1.

Earlier today it was revealed that the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 will be announced alongside the Mi MIX 2, in a fashion similar to last year. Although there is still a few days from the launch date (September 11), we won’t have to wait till then before knowing the specification details of the Mi Note 3, as they have been leaked online.

The teaser poster for the Mi Note 3 launch shows Xiaomi’s brand ambassador for the Mi 5X, Wu Yifan, holding a dual camera phone that looks like the Mi 6. So

According to the leaked specs, the Mi Note 3 will have a 5.5-inch display. Not only is it smaller than the 5.7-inch display of the Mi Note 2, there is no mention of it being curved.

Since there is no Snapdragon 836, most folks will expect the Mi Note 3 to come with the Snapdragon 835. Sorry, to disappoint but that won’t be happening if these specifications are true. Instead, Xiaomi has settled for the next chip in line, the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform. As consolation, it will keep the 6GB of RAM.

The Mi Note 3 will be available in either 64GB or 128GB variants, though, there is no mention of a MicroSD card slot. Since the display has been cut down, Xiaomi has also decided to shave off the battery capacity to 3500mAh but have added Quick Charge 4.0 support. We hope it comes with a supported charger.

The Mi Note 3 will also come with dual rear cameras. The cameras will be the same configuration as that of the Mi 6. So you get two 12MP cameras in the wide-angle lens + telephoto lens configuration. The front camera is said to be a 16MP sensor.

The Mi Note 3 will have a four-curved glass body and an aerospace grade aluminium frame. It will have a special face unlock feature that uses a smart identification system with a sort of RGB sensor to identify the face of the owner. The Mi Note 3 will also have NFC support.

Pricing details were not provided. One feature we hope Xiaomi keeps from the Mi Note 2 is global LTE support.

Xiaomi is gradually expanding to other countries. This year alone, it added Russia, Vietnam, and Mexico to the list of countries where you can officially buy its phones. Today, Southeast Asian country, Thailand, is the latest addition.

Xiaomi will partner with VST ECS, a local Thai company that will handle product distribution and after- sales services. Xiaomi products will be available both online and offline. One of its online partners is Lazada, an e-commerce company owned by the Alibaba Group.

Fans of Xiaomi in Thailand will be able to buy the Mi 6, the Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4X, and Redmi 4A phones only for now.

The 6GB RAM +64GB ROM black variant  of the Mi 6 will go on sale tomorrow on Lazada for 13,790 Baht (~$414). The 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM version which comes in blue will be available on September 1.

The Redmi Note 4  variant available for sale is the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM and the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM variants. They will be available in gold, black, and dark gray on Lazada tomorrow, 25th of August for 6,790 Baht (~$204) and 5,790 Baht (~$174) respectively.

Xiaomi has released four dual camera smartphones so far. There is the Redmi Pro, the Mi 5S Plus, the Mi 6 and the newly announced Mi 5X. One of these four devices will be launching in India next month according to the Managing Director of Xiaomi India.

From the looks of it, the Mi 5X is the most likely choice seeing as the Redmi Pro is no longer in production; the Mi 5S is “old”; and Xiaomi already said the Mi 6 won’t be released in India. The Mi 5X will also be a good compensation for the Xiaomi fans in India since it has the same camera sensors as the Mi 6.

Xiaomi launched the Mi 6 flagship in April this year and the device was announced to come in four colour variants which are Black, Blue, Silver and White. While the Black, Blue and White variants have been on sale, the Xiaomi Mi 6 Silver edition has been out of circulation. But during the launch of the Mi 5X recently, Xiaomi revealed that the Silver edition was going to go up on sale on August 3. Before that happens, we came across cool hands-on photos of the Mi 6 Silver edition and here you have them.

Just in case you’re unaware, the Xiaomi Mi 6 Silver Edition is a limited edition, call it super limited edition if you like because Xiaomi did disclose also that only 100 units of the Mi 6 Silver edition will be made available on August 3. This is as a result of the fact that the production process is cumbersome, especially the electroplating process. Lei Jun put the yield at 6% due to the special electroplating process where in an entire batch can be rendered useless by a spec of dust inside the chamber.

Design wise, the Xiaomi Mi 6 Silver Edition comes with a special design which like the others is made of stainless steel frame but its own glass covering is a special ultra-reflective mirror finish. The Silver Edition is equipped with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and would carry a lofty price tag of 3,999 Yuan (~$592), a thousand yuan higher than its black coloured contemporary. Last week Xiaomi unveiled MIUI 9, the latest version of its custom ROM. Bringing a number of new features, one of the key upgrades to the OS is its speedy application launch time. Xiaomi is really confident of what it has achieved with the app launch time that it decided to pit it against the Huawei P10 and Samsung Galaxy S8.

All three phones had multiple apps installed from the same store on them and the test was carried out under a controlled environment. At the end of the day, the Xiaomi Mi 6 came out on top with 43 apps launching fastest. The Galaxy S8 (Samsung Experience) came in second with 4 apps and the Huawei P10 (EMUI 5.1) was third with 3 apps.

After months of waiting, the White Xiaomi Mi 6 will eventually be available for purchase, starting tomorrow 14th of July.

Xiaomi released the Mi 6 a few months ago in four different colors. There is the standard black, blue, white and ceramic black special edition. However only the black has been available for purchase. Now that the white variant is available, those who prefer it can pick it up.

The price for the White Mi 6 is set at ¥2499 (~$368) and Xiaomi says it will be available both online and offline. At the moment, it will only be available for the 64GB model.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is the company’s flagship for the year. It has a 5.15-inch FHD display, a Snapdragon 835 processor and 6GB of RAM. It isn’t waterproof but it is splash proof. There is also no earphone jack though there is an adapter and Xiaomi has launched a pair of USB type-C earphones.

To begin the second half, Xiaomi has a new device set for launch on Monday, 11th of July and we are really excited about it. The official Weibo account for Xiaomi’s Store had released a new poster teasing the device by releasing a key detail. That key spec is the RAM which is a massive 6GB.

Now, this isn’t Xiaomi’s first phone with 6GB of RAM. The Mi 5s Plus, Mi Note 2, Mi MIX and Mi 6 all come with that amount of RAM. However, we are still excited because Xiaomi is advertising it as a big deal for this mysterious device.

Following the teaser poster, the account also released a very short video releasing more key specs and that is where things get more interesting.

The video reveals the processor belongs to the Snapdragon 800 series, storage is UFS and RAM is DDR4. It also says the phone has a 3D glass body and the display is large. Next bit of info is the battery which comes in at 4000mAh and the camera which is 22MP, can record 4K and has a smart beauty mode.

The video doesn’t end there but also mentions full 4G netcom, a USB Type-C port with support for Quick Charge, an IR blaster, and NFC.

All these specs point at a flagship phone and we want to believe this is the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus. The video already mentioned a bigger screen and bigger Battery. Plus it also says it will have a 3D glass body, a key feature of the Mi 6.

Two months ago, Xiaomi made its way into Russia with three new devices: the Mi MIX, the Mi Note 2, and the budget Redmi 4X. Today, it adds the flagship Mi 6 and the recently launched Mi Max 2 to the phones available in the Eurasian country.

Xiaomi Mi 6

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is a dual camera flagship powered by the Snapdragon 853. It has a 5.15-inch full HD display, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Xiaomi has settled for a dual rear camera configuration akin to that of the iPhone 7 Plus.

The main sensor is a 12MP 1.25μm wide-angle sensor with a f/1.8 aperture, 4-axis OIS and 6P lens and the second sensor is another 12MP 1.0μm telephoto lens with a f/2.6 aperture, PDAF and a focus range of 52mm which lets you take portrait mode images.

For the selfie camera, Xiaomi has put an 8MP camera that records 1080p videos at 30fps. The Mi 6 has a 3350mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0.

Those who plan to get it should remember that the Mi 6 doesn’t have an audio jack but works with USB Type-C headphones. The device is also splash resistant.

The Mi 6 will be available for purchase on the 6th of July at 11:00 AM Moscow time for 29,990 Rubles. You can head to the official Mi Russia site and register to get notified.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2

The Mi Max 2 is for those who enjoy the extra screen estate of a tablet but still want a phone. The 6.44-inch 1080p display should more than suffice for any video watching or media consumption you’re into.

There is a Snapdragon 625 paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. You shouldn’t worry about battery life as the combination of the 5300mAh non-removable battery and the power-efficient SD625 should get you through a whole day at most.

The Mi Max 2 also packs an impressive Sony IMX386 sensor on the rear and a 5MP front facing camera. There is 9V/2A fast charging to help refill the large battery as fast as possible.

The Mi Max 2 will sell for 19,9990 Rubles.

Mi Band 2

The official site also has the Mi Band 2 but there is no price at the moment. There is a chance it will also go on sale on July 6 alongside the phones.

Xiaomi has announced a Jackie Chan Limited Edition of its latest Snapdragon 835 powered flagship – Xiaomi Mi 6. The new Mi 6 Jackie Chan Limited edition is released to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Jackie Chan stunt team. The initial team was first reunited after a long period in February this year and the new Edition of Xiaomi’s best smartphone yet is meant to pay tribute to a legendary martial arts actor.

The new Mi 6 edition doesn’t really come with a lot of differences from the regular version but it has a unique gift box which is designed with Jackie’s autograph at the front. The Mi 6 wasn’t unboxed for us to see if the autograph is also stamped on the back of the Mi 6 itself but a group photo of Jackie Chan and his entire stunt team has the “Shot on Mi 6” watermark. In addition, the configuration isn’t revealed but the new edition could have the same specs as the Mi 6 as well, with perhaps, a Jackie Chan themed set of wallpapers onboard.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 “Silver Edition” that we had seen in hands-on images after the announcement 2 months ago, won’t be on sale anytime soon, according to Xiaomi Marketing Director, Zang Zhiyuan.

This recent confirmation by the Marketing Director was raised after an auction listing of the Mi 6 silver variant emerged online, with a starting price at ¥3999 (~$585). Since the last source report, the price had shot up to ¥16,999 ($2490.22).

Many home-based Mi fans and consumers have complained that this pre-release version of the Mi 6 was a marketing ploy to hype up the Mi 6 and that Xiaomi has cut costs by reducing the number of variants.

Zang Zhiyuan responded to the social media that the silver variant has proven to be very difficult to manufacture due to the ‘complex process’. We understand Zang has stated the amount of high-quality yield as insufficient for mass-production and trials are still underway to perfect the silver variant.

Furthermore, he defends that the Mi 6 variant is not suitable for consumers currently as the silver edition remains an engineering device and stated that Xiaomi had the right to pursue legal action against both the seller as well as the buyer since it’s the company’s asset.

Talking about the dimensions of these phones, the Z17 measures 152.6 x 72.4 x 7.6 mm whereas the Mi 6 measures145.2 x 70.5 x 7.5 mm. As you must have already noticed, both these devices are almost equally thin however, the Z17 is a meager .1 mm thicker to the Mi 6 measuring 7.6 mm. In terms of weight, the Mi 6 is slightly lighter at 168 grams to its counterpart – Z17 that weighs 173 grams.

Display:

Both the phones come with IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass display, however the Nubia Z17 sports a slightly bigger screen that’s – 1080p 5.5″ screen with ~74.7% body to screen ratio and ~403 PPI pixel density. On the other hand the Mi 6 1080p 5.15″ screen with ~71.4% body to screen ratio and ~428 PPI pixel density.

Color Options:

The Mi 6 comes in four body color options namely Black, Blue, White, and Ceramic Black; whereas the Z17 comes in five color options to choose from i.e. Obsidian Black, Solar Gold, Black Gold, Flame Red, & Aurora Blue. Also, as we had reported earlier,  Xiaomi has axed the 3.5 mm audio jack in the Mi 6, and now ZTE has decided to go with the same decision as well.

Winner: It’s a tie between both these devices considering both the companies have chosen their own design language which is appealing to its own set of users.

Hardware Specifications

Processor & Storage:

Both, the Z17 and Mi 6 are powered by Qualcomm’s newest and fastest Snapdragon 835 processor and interestingly enough, these are the only two devices to come out of China that are powered by this chipset. It has octa-core chipset which includes four 2.35 GHz Kryo & another four 1.9 GHz Kryo processors coupled with Adreno 540 GPU.

Coming to the storage and RAM in these devices, the Z17 comes in two variants i.e. 64/128 GB ROM + 6 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM + 8 GB RAM. It is important to note that the Z17 is among only a handful devices to feature 8 GB RAM on board. It makes the Z17 a powerhouse in terms of processing speed and capabilities. On the other hand, Mi 6 comes with 64/128 GB of internal storage option with 6 GB RAM.

Both these devices do not support storage expansion slots so it’s important for you to decide which variant to go for depending on your future storage needs.

Battery:

Despite having a larger 5.5″ screen and increased RAM on the Z17, it has a slightly smaller battery of 3200 mAh whereas the Mi 6 comes with a 3350 mAh non-removable battery. So if you are someone who’s a power user and remain on the go most of the time, we would recommend you the Mi 6 over the Z17.

Winner:

After reading the above paragraphs, it would be obvious to most of you that if you’re a power user but can manage with the slightly smaller battery then you should be undoubtedly going for the ZTE’s flagship of the year.

Camera

Another important yet overlooked aspect for all the smartphone buyer is the Camera capability. Thankfully, both of these phones come with dual-lens. The Z17 has a 12 MP lens with f/1.8 and another 23 MP lens with f/2.0 and face detection, auto-focus, 2x optical zoom feature. On the other hand, both the lens for the primary rear camera on the Mi 6 is loaded with 12 MP lens with f/1.8, and f/2.6 aperture. Needless to mention, both these smartphone cameras have the common features namely geo-tagging pics, touch focus, face detection, click on smile, and so on.

For snapping selfies, the Z17 has a 16 MP lens while its counterpart Mi 6 has only a 8 MP sensor.

Winner:

Features & OS

Being the flagship devices of their respective brands, both, the Nubia Z17 and Mi 6 comes with most of the features seen on high-end smartphones these days including support for 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, a fingerprint sensor, etc.

In terms of OS, both of them are loaded with Android’s latest Nougat v7.1.1 operating system out of the box with the brand’s proprietary UI on top of it namely Nubia UI 5.0 in the Z17 and MIUI 8.0 in the Mi 6.

Winner: Tie

Availability & Pricing

Both the phones have been launched in the Chinese market already and the 64 GB and 128 GB versions of Mi 6 are priced at 2,499 Yuan (about $367) and 2,899 Yuan (about $425) in China. On the contrary, the ZTE Nubia Z17 6 GB/64 GB version, 6 GB/128 GB, and 8 GB/128 GB versions cost 2,799 Yuan (~410 USD), 3,399 Yuan (~500 USD), and 3,999 Yuan (~590 USD) respectively.

Winner:

If you are looking for something that would make a smaller hole in your pockets yet give you the flagship experience than definitely go for the Xiaomi‘s Mi 6. However, if budget is not a constraint for you, the Nubia Z17 is definitely the winner considering its design, features, and specifications.

Xiaomi has announced another round of pre-sales today for the Mi 6 and the newly announced Mi Max 2. The time provided for the items to ship shows that there is still an issue of supply at Xiaomi. The Mi 6 is said to ship in 2 to 4 weeks. Add that to delivery time and you probably won’t get your phone until the third week in July or later.

The Mi Max 2 on the other hand will ship in two weeks. Not as long as the Mi 6, but still a long wait. If you head to the official site now, both items are out of stock. Xiaomi has included an option to be reminded when its available.

It is also out of stock on Jingdong (JD.com) but those tied to network operators are available and sell for ¥2699 (~$397). Xiaomi needs to fix its supply issues or it will end up losing customers to other brands.

Supply chain insider, Kevin King has revealed that Xiaomi’s shipment for the second quarter in 2017 has improved. Last quarter, the company had recorded 13 million units in smartphone shipments. According to Kevin, they are set to exceed 20 million this quarter.

The info was revealed via his weibo account @Kevin King’s Diary. The reason for the increase in sales is attributed to Xiaomi’s performance in India where its Redmi phones are doing very well and also the recent release of the Mi 6 in its home market.

Kevin King believes the increase in shipments will continue to rise as Xiaomi still has a number of “star products” hitting the market soon. Last year, Xiaomi suffered a decline in sales, causing it to drop in ranking in China. It is good to see things are getting better for them.

Xiaomi still has the Mi Note 3 and the second generation Mi MIX billed to launch this year. Those two are those that have been confirmed. However, there have been sightings of a new Redmi device and a Snapdragon 660 powered phone said to be a less powerful variant of the Mi 6.
