On New Year’s Eve, Xiaomi released the Android 11 update for Mi A3 out of the blue. But unfortunately, this build bricked the phones. Hence, the company halted the rollout and offered free repairs for the affected customers. Then, the firm re-released the update after fixing the issue. However, the update did not include a native screen recorder, which is one of the main highlights of Android 11. Thankfully, the Chinese smartphone is now seeding out a new build with this missing feature.

The Android 11 update for Mi A3 came with December 2020 security patch though it was rolled out in early Janauary. Hence, the company has now released a new update that bumps up the security patch level to January 2021.

The latest system update for the Xiaomi Mi A3 comes with build number V12.0.4.0.RFQMIXM (global variant) and weighs 329MB in size. Just like any other OTA update, is it being rolled out in batches. Anyway, interested users can head over to Settings > System > Advanced > System update to check if their unit has received the update.

That said, the changelog for the update does not mention anything. But it brings the Android 11 native screen recorder, which was missing in the previous build. It can be accessed from the edit section of quick settings.

Lastly, apart from the screen recorder, the new update also brings YouTube Music as a system app, and hence, it cannot be uninstalled.

Some of the Mi A3 users, who updated their devices to Android 11 a few days back, must have faced a bit of an Anxiety attack. The update, which was sudden but half-baked, rendered many of the devices dead, essentially a hard brick. Today, Xiaomi has re-released the update and it is free of that issue.

First, we would like to apologize to our readers for the delayed update to this news. Although people started reporting about this second Android 11 update online, we had to personally verify that it steers clear of further heartbreaks.

That said, our unit got the update with a build number 12.0.3.0.RFQMIXM and weighs around 1.40GB in size. The changelog is the same as the first update and shows typical features of the Android 11 OS. Additionally, the update also brings December 2020 security patch.

On updating, the device successfully jumps to the newer Android. So far, the update also doesn’t seem to have any major bugs. Below are some of the screenshots to give you confidence that it is safe from major issues and you can safely give it a go this time.:

Also, it is worth noting that this update is for those who fortunately didn’t pull the trigger earlier. That means, if you have updated your device already, it should dead by now. In that case, all you can do is visit one of the 2000+ Mi service centers across the country. Xiaomi has also promised that it would repair the devices free of cost.

Xiaomi has so far sidestepped Mi A3 when it comes to update priorities. A while ago, the company mistakenly rolled out a Mexican firmware to the Global variant which disabled SIM-functionality. Even before that, users literally had to sign a petition to raise the awareness of the older Android-10 update delay.

With two major Android updates served already, we really hope the company doesn’t repeat its mistake while providing future security updates.

Xiaomi surprised Mi A3 users by rolling out Android 11 stable update without a beta program. Turns out that this build is more fatal than any other software build seeded out by the company for this handset. That’s because this update hard bricks the phone and as a result, early adopters are now left with a broken smartphone.

As soon as users who updated started sharing the issue on forums and social media, Xiaomi quickly published a warning post on Mi Community asking users of Mi A3 to not update to Android 11 if the OTA hits their device. Similarly, multiple Xiaomi and Mi A3-related Telegram groups and channels spread the message as fast as they could.

Even we received the OTA weighing 1.40GB on our unit. The changelog mentions four new highlights namely improved notification shade, conversation bubbles, better permission management, and improved DND mode.

Anyway, Xiaomi has asked users to wait for the fix. We do not know how long it will take for the company to fix this mishap since the firm is yet to roll back the OTA as of publishing this article.

Whatever, make sure to not hit the ‘Download and install’ button. Else, you will also be left with a hard bricked smartphone (won’t turn on).
