This has been more popular than the water purifier, perhaps due to the ease at which we get in contact with air pollution due to urbanization and other reasons. The Chinese tech giant has, today,  officially unveiled a new Mi Air Purifier which it claims has a wider reach and consumes less power.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-221240" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier" width="600" height="333" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-2-300x167.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The new Mi Air Purifier is said to come with the capability to eliminate more than 10 common indoor pollutants. It also comes with a wider coverage area of 105 square metres, making it suitable for use in areas with large spaces. The device also has low power consumption and this is closely related to having extremely low noise levels and, thus, can be used in any room in the house. The noise levels is pegged at just 20.4dB.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-4.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-221242" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-4.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier" width="600" height="300" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-4.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-4-300x150.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>On the design, the new Mi Air Purifier looks very much like the Mi Air Purifier Pro, with a physical display at the front. The display is a touchscreen one which can be used to control the gadget.  It also has the same rectangular shape but can be mounted on the wall. The smart home gadget is said to also come with three independent filtration layers to remove allergens, PM 2.5 particulate matter, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, dust and other pollutants in order to keep the air inside the room clean. The air purifier can filter as much as 300 cubic metres of air per hour. It uses electricity but the consumption is so low that you don&#8217;t have to bother about the electricity bills accumulating.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-5.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-221249" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-5.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="600" height="383" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-5.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/xiaomi-air-purifier-5-300x192.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>

<p>Apart from the touchscreen controls, the gadget can also be controlled via the Mi app. In addition, the Mi Air Purifier comes with Xiaomi&#8217;s Xiao AI voice assistant for voice prompt control. This will obviously be useful for Chinese speakers. Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier comes with a 2,499 Yuan ($361) price tag which is way cheaper than other brands in the same category.</p>

The department reportedly tested out a batch of 36 Air Purifiers, out of which only four of the products failed the test. Interestingly, Xiaomi&#8217;s Mi Air Purifier turned out to be one of the four products which didn&#8217;t pass the test.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner-3.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-37793" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner-3.jpg?x44794" alt="xiaomi-aircleaner-3" width="560" height="560" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner-3.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner-3-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner-3-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px" /></a></p>
<p>Although this meant that most of the air purifiers were fine, the presence of a popular product from Xiaomi in the list was really surprising. However, soon, Xiaomi released a statement in response to this test report, claiming that their air purifier CADR level efficiency was in line with A level standards. According to the official company listing, the Mi air purifier has a CADR (clean air delivery rate) value of 406m3/h which is pretty decent.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Mi-air-purifier-fails-test.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-69898" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Mi-air-purifier-fails-test.jpg?x44794" alt="Mi air purifier fails test" width="440" height="1175" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Mi-air-purifier-fails-test.jpg 440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Mi-air-purifier-fails-test-112x300.jpg 112w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Mi-air-purifier-fails-test-383x1024.jpg 383w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Mi-air-purifier-fails-test-157x420.jpg 157w" sizes="(max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px" /></a></p>
<p>Now, it has come to light that Xiaomi&#8217;s air purifiers that were subjected to the department&#8217;s test only managed score a CADR value of 346m3/h.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-37786" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner.jpg?x44794" alt="xiaomi-aircleaner" width="700" height="455" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner.jpg 700w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/xiaomi-aircleaner-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a></p>
<p>But the company claims that all Xiaomi purifiers use the same functional units and components and such a vast difference between the claimed value and the sample value is not possible. And after some further talks, it was reported that the sample unit under test was not using the high-speed mode on the device, which is why the score was so less. As a result, Xiaomi has urged the Shanghai Quality department to retake the test.</p>
<p>Although the report may have shocked Mi Air purifier users, from the proceedings of the incident, it looks like a proper retest may pass the product.</p>
