Xiaomi has expanded into many different segments in the past few years, including wearables. Although the company is yet to release a low-cost smartwatch, its Mi Band, which costs under $20 has turned out to be quite successful. As a result, the company has managed to make it to the top three wearable companies by shipments as well as market share for the Q3 2015.

The report directly comes from the market research firm IDC. The firm reveals that Fitbit remains the top wearable maker worldwide with 4.7 million units shipped with a total of 22.7% market share. While it’s still on top, its market share has reduced by nearly 10%, thanks to the entry of players like Apple and Xiaomi. Next up is Apple, with 18.6% share and 3.9 million units shipped. The Cupertino giant has managed to achieve this feat from scratch within a matter of few months.

In the third position is Xiaomi, with two major wearable products under its belt, namely the Mi Band and the Mi Band 1S. Xiaomi shipped around 3.7 million units in the third quarter which earned it a market share of 17.4%. This is also a commendable feat by the company since at this juncture last year, it only had about 5.7% share.

The next two, Garmin and BBK are way behind the top three players with a market share of 4.1% and 3.1% respectively. What’s interesting about this report is that Samsung has dropped out of the top five list. The lack of a new launch recently has affected the company’s Q3 shipments.

Late yesterday, Xiaomi had hinted that it could unveil the Xiaomi Mi Band 1S today. And now, the company has promptly made the wearable official. This is the new generation version of the company’s popular Mi Band which sold in millions in the past few months.

The Mi Band 1S does not come with a display, hence you will have to rely on your smartphone to check out all the data. But you can connect it to any iOS or Android smartphone.

The new Mi Band adds a heart rate sensor which means you can keep a check on your heart. Other functions are similar to its previous generation. So, you can track calories, count the number of steps taken, or even check out the amount of calories that you have managed to burn. Like the earlier model, it can also measure the quality of sleep. Further, the new band can unlock your Xiaomi device as well vibrate when your phones receives a new notification. Finally, its IP67 certified which means it will survive under water up to 3 feet for as much as 30 minutes.
With the new Mi Band in the market, the old one can be yours for just $11. However, we will have to wait and see if its available in plenty. The band will go on sale on November 11 for just $15.

A few weeks back, we came to know that Xiaomi became the second largest wearable maker in the world, with a total share of around 24 percent as of Q1 2015. As per the latest info, the company shipped over 6 million wearables, which is a tremendous achievement in its first year.

Now, its about time, we see the second generation model of the device and earlier today, we came across some exciting news. A device named Mi Band 1S was spotted on the Taiwanese NCC website. The application was filed by “Taiwan millet Communications Limited” which kind of confirms that this is the second generation Mi Band 1S.

One of the new features of the upcoming Xiaomi band is expected to be a heart rate sensor. According to the leaked picture, we can see the sensor just below the device. In spite of some new additions, we don’t expect the pricing to increase significantly. Also, it could be possible that there will be multiple version of the Xiaomi Mi Band 1S, because that’s what the company has been doing in most of its previous lineups.

Anyways, given the timing of the leak, we could see the new generation model in the coming months. So expect some more information pretty soon.
