The affected units are said to be affected by a safety issue that can cause the vertical component to break from the main body of the scooter when in use. The culprit is actually a screw in the folding mechanism that can come loose.

The affected serial numbers fall between 21074/00000316 – 21074/00015107 and 16133/00541209 – 16133/00544518. You can find out if your scooter is affected by entering the serial number on this page. The serial number is located on the left side of the scooter. Once your scooter is said to be affected, you will be required to enter your email address and a mail will be sent to you (within 72 hours) regarding how the repair will be carried out. Owners will not have to pay any charge. Recalls already started on June 26 in the UK and on July 1 in other countries.

Xiaomi says it advises users to immediately stop using the Mi Electric Scooter for now until they are sure their unit isn’t part of the affected ones. Owners are also advised to not try to repair the scooter themselves when they notice a screw coming loose. Modified scooters are also not a part of the recall program.

In the official statement, Xiaomi tendered its apology to those who are affected by the issue.
