Last year, Xiaomi had launched Mi Gaming Laptop 2019 with an impressive set of specifications. Now, the company has announced a discount of 1,000 yuan on one of the variants of the laptop.

The company has announced that the Mi Gaming Laptop 2019 with Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, 1TB PCIe SSD, GTX 166Ti graphics will be offered at a discount of 1,000 yuan (~144). This brings down the cost to 7,999 yuan, which is roughly $1,152.

However, at the time of writing this article, the product is shown as “Sold Out” on JD.com. We are not sure if the same discounted pricing will be applied when the device gets restocked on the e-commerce platform.

The Mi Gaming Laptop 2019 looks similar to the predecessor model and comes with the same number of ports and vents, a 15.6-inch display with the same bezel size, and the exact keyboard layout.

Xiaomi India has begun to tease the launch of Mi-branded laptops in India. A new teaser shared by the brand today gives us a glimpse of the model it is going to launch first. Also, the company’s chief business officer shared some details about the laptops they are going to release in India.

Xiaomi has changed the smartphone market of India since its entry. It has been leading the market for 11 quarters (close to 3 years). The company is even leading the smart TV and the wearable segments. Now, it is all set to shake up the laptop industry of the country as well.

People have been requesting Xiaomi to bring their laptops to India for years. The company’s top-level executives confirmed their arrival by posting teaser videos with ‘Its time’ and #WhatsNextFromMi.

The very next day, Raghu Reddy, the chief business officer of Xiaomi India revealed some information about the company’s laptop strategy to the Economic Times. 

According to him, Xiaomi will not follow its smartphone model of affordability by launching entry-level laptops. Also, it won’t flood the markets with too many models. Instead, the company will target power users such as content creators, gamers, and students.

He also revealed that they were planning to launch laptops ahead of Diwali festive season. But the current ‘work from home’ situation has increased the short-term demand compared to the past.

Mr Reddy also hinted Xiaomi will be launching ‘thin and light’ and ‘gaming’ laptops in the country since these two segments witnessed a growth rate of 70-80% and 5% last year. Anyway, it is worth noting that India’s laptop market fell by 26.5% in Q1 2020 compared to Q4 2019.

Further, he also mentioned the difficulty of demonstrating products from a new brand offline. But he believes Xiaomi can leverage its brand presence in retail with strong marketing.

Last but not least, the company also has plans to start manufacturing laptops locally in India after reaching a certain level of monthly sales.

Earlier this month, Xiaomi took the wraps off its second gaming laptop – the Mi Gaming Laptop 2019, which comes with an impressive set of specifications. Today, the Mi Gaming Laptop 2019 will be officially available for purchase in China through JD.com at 10:00 AM local time, for a starting price of ¥7,299, roughly $1,037.

The laptop comes in three models based on their configuration. The base model with 9th Gen Intel Core i5-9300H processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 8GB DDR4 RAM, and 512GB PCIe SSD is priced at ¥7,299 (~$1,037).

There’s another model priced at ¥8,399 (~$1,037) that packs 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 RAM, and 512GB PCIe SSD. The high-end model has the same specs but packs NVIDIA GeForce RTXTM 2060 and is priced at ¥8,799, roughly $1,250.

Xiaomi has taken the wraps off its second gaming laptop – the Mi Gaming Laptop 2019. The laptop packs impressive specs and has a starting price of ¥7499 (~$1080).

Design

With respect to design, the Mi Gaming Laptop 2019 looks no different from last year’s model. You have the same number of ports and vents, a 15.6-inch display with the same bezel size, and the exact keyboard layout. However, we do feel like the 2019 version comes in a darker shade of black.

Specs

While the design hasn’t changed, a lot has changed under the hood. But before that, it is important to mention that the display has an interesting new feature. It is still 15.6-inches, has the same 81% screen-to-body ratio, and 72% color gamut. On top of all that, it adds a 144Hz refresh rate for much smoother gameplay.

So far it has been confirmed that Xiaomi will launch two new products at the event. The first is a new Mi Notebook which we believe is a gaming laptop judging from the Weibo teasers. Some have speculated that it is the gaming laptop released this year but with the newer 8th-gen processors.

The second product is a customized Mi Band 3 with has the words “Are You Ok?” printed on the band. We don’t know what message Xiaomi is trying to pass across with the text but we should know more when it launches.

So far, there isn’t much else to the customized Mi Band 3 save for the text. It will come in the same black color as the standard variant and may even sell for the same price.

The Mi Band 3 comes with an OLED panel and can measure your heart rate calories burnt, steps taken, and distance covered. It also measures sleep activity. It has a 110mAh battery which is said to last up to 20 days on a single charge. It is also waterproof.

Xiaomi has just announced its first notebook gaming laptop. A monster which will be able to run every game thanks to its powerful Nvidia GTX 1060/1050 Ti GPU (depending on the configuration), and it will be sold at a very interesting price. We just got our hands on the first live photos of the new notebook thanks to which we can see its design in detail. Given that it is a gaming notebook, Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop is not as attractive as the other Mi Notebooks in terms of design. But it is very far from being the ugliest gaming laptop.

Unlike many other gaming laptops, its look is sober and suitable even for an office. Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop has a thickness of 20.9 mm and a weight of 2.7 Kg. On the right side, the machine sports a single USB port and an SD card reader, while on the left side there are two USB ports, an audio jack, and a microphone jack. This laptop sports two stereo speakers, they have a power of 3W and they support Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res audio technologies. On the rear side, under the monitor, there is an Ethernet port, an additional USB port, an HDMI port, a USB-C port and the AC port.

The keyboard boasts an RGB illumination and 5 programmable keys on its left side. Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop has a very wide touchpad which will allow playing a lot of games comfortably. Xiaomi is a relatively new player in the laptop market but that hasn’t stopped the company from releasing its first Mi Gaming laptop. Alongside the Mi Mix 2S launch in Shanghai, the company also took the wraps off its first gaming laptop in the market. Xiaomi has continued its strategy in this market too by offering top of the line specs at an affordable price tag to gaming enthusiasts.

Xiaomi’s laptop design philosophy is pretty simple. The company keeps the size and thickness as less as possible and does not believe in adding any fancy logos or stickers to differentiate its product. So, what you get is a plain design. Some love it, others hate it, but it’s a personal choice. It’s a bit thick to be honest at 20.9mm, but then powerful gaming laptops don’t usually get any thinner than this. The laptop weighs 2.7 kgs.

The Mi Gaming Laptop boasts of a professional keyboard with 5 programmable keys. CEO Lei Jun added that gamers often like to order take-out food and one of these programmable buttons could be easily configured to order your favourite meal with just a hit of a button.

The laptop comes with a 15.6-inch FHD screen with a narrow frame, nothing fancy to be honest but it can connect to two other 4K external monitors for an ultimate gaming experience. You have Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio 2 x 3W speakers for a great gaming experience. The laptop is also loaded with a rich set of ports like HDMI 2.0, USB Type-C, Ethernet and USB 3.0.

There are four official variants of the Mi Gaming Laptop. Configurations start from an i5 standard voltage processor with GTX Ti 1050, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, and 1TB HDD. You can upgrade the graphics to GTX Ti 1060 for an additional thousand Yuan, and for another thousand more, you can upgrade the CPU to Core i7. The top-end Mi Gaming Laptop features the Core i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and 1TB of HDD.

Given the powerful configuration, it was necessary for Xiaomi to take care of its cooling. In this regard, the Mi Gaming Laptop comes with 3+2 large diameter cooling pipes inside with 4 air vents. There’s a special TORNADO button which kicks in ultra fast cooling, dropping the temperature by up to 3-5 degree celsius within 10 minutes. It will be loud with the fans blowing at full speed but your laptop should cool down very quickly.
