During the launch of the Redmi Note 11 series a few days back, Redmi’s GM and Xiaomi President Lu Weibing had hinted that the tech giant was gearing up to open its record-setting 10,000th Mi Home store in China before the end of October. The 10,000th Mi Store has now been opened right on schedule.

The iconic Mi Home store adopts a unique architectural design that stands out in every sense. It is located in Shenzhen’s Happy Coast and covers an area of ​​more than 600 square meters. The tech giant will be giving the first 1000 buyers at the new store the chance to pay an additional 1 yuan and get the Redmi Buds 3 alongside their purchases. The company also hinted at plans to integrate the Mi Home store and after-sale service center in the future in order to bring the after-sales services closer to fans.

Lu Weibing also hinted at the Redmi Note 11 series launch that the company has already expanded the number of its brick and mortar stores to cover over 2,200 counties. This represents 80% of the entire counties in China. This is in keeping up with the company’s goal of opening at least a Mi Store in every of China’s counties.

Xiaomi had unveiled the new CyberDog robot a couple of weeks ago during a product launch event. Now, the company has officially announced earlier today (1st September 2021) that it will be showcasing the four legged robot in over 100 Mi Home Stores across its home country of China.

The Chinese tech giant shared the news regarding the CyberDog on the Mi Home Weibo account, with image posters. Looking at these promotional posters, it is clear that the company aims on unveiling its latest product in areas like provincial capitals, capitals, and municipalities in China first. For those unaware, the CyberDog is a bio inspired quadruped robot is powered by NVIDIA’s Jetson Xavier NX AI Supercomputer for Embedded and Edge Systems paired with 128GB of SSD storage.

Furthermore, the new robot also houses a number of cameras, microphones, and sensors on the head of the robot that gives it spatial perception capabilities that is comparable to the human eye. This includes AI cameras, binocular ultra wide cameras and Intel’s RealSense D450 depth camera module that enables it to avoid obstacles as it navigates its way around. It even sports SLAM mapping and auto tracking.

While a similar quadruped robot called Spot from Boston Dynamic sells for a whopping 74,500 US Dollars, Xiaomi is offering its robot for just 9,999 Yuan (roughly 1,540 US Dollars). In other words, it makes this product significantly more affordable than the US made robot.

At the end of March this year, Chinese technology giant Xiaomi unveiled its new visual identity that includes a redesigned logo and new typography. Now, the company has started replacing the old logo with the new one at Mi Home Stores.

The development was confirmed by Lu Weibing, Partner at Xiaomi Group, President of Xiaomi China, and General Manager of the Redmi brand. The new logo was revealed by Lei Jun, Founder and CEO of Xiaomi, on 30th March during Spring New Product Launch event.

The new logo of Xiaomi has been designed by Kenya Hara, a professor of Musashino Art University and the President of the Nippon Design Center (NDC).

For this new logo, Xiaomi has gone with rounded corners much like what you have seen on some icon packs. So you have a squircle in place of the old logo which is a square. Xiaomi says the designer used the “superellipse” mathematical formula for the design and had to adjust the variables to get a visually optimal dynamic balance and a perfect balance between a square and a circle.

Xiaomi says that it will continue to use orange as its corporate color and thus the color of the logo remains unchanged. However, it will use Black and Silver variants of the logo as supplemental colors for high-end products.

A couple of months ago, in April, when Xiaomi launched its 5000th Mi Home Store in China in the city of Shenyang which was also the first to use the new Xiaomi branding.

Xiaomi has officially opened its newest Mi Home in China located in the city of Shenyang. This store opening marks a milestone for the brand as it is the 5000th Mi Home store. Another interesting fact about this new store is that it is the first to wear the new Xiaomi logo.

The Mi Home will play host to a number of new products including the Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, and Redmi K40 that was unveiled recently.  the company is also promising some discounts to patrons as part of activities to mark the store’s opening.

The Mi Home flagship store has been a crucial part of brand Xiaomi’s success. The resurgence of the brand post-2015 could be traced to the drive to create Mi Home in many cities, bringing its products closer to fans. The rapid proliferation of the experience store is surprising, though. As of 2017, Xiaomi had just 100 Mi Home stores in China and had plans to push the number to 200 stores. By December 2020, the company announced the opening of the 1000th Mi Home store in China. How the brand pushed that number to 5000 stores within such a short period beats our imagination. That means a total of 4000 stores were opened in the last three months. The brand reportedly opened 1,000 Mi Homes in China in January this year.

Last week, Xiaomi entered the UK market with the launch of select products, including Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8, Mi 8 Lite, Redmi 6A entry-level smartphone, Mi Band 3 fitness tracker, and the Mi electric scooter.

Now, the company has also opened its first brick-and-mortar Mi Store in Westfield London, making it the company’s first official Mi Store in the UK.

A day before the company officially announced its expansion to the UK market, Xiaomi had started selling its Pocophone F1 in the UK through Amazon. Now, the smartphone is available for purchase through the Mi Store as well.

Along with the Pocophone F1, the company is also selling the Redmi Note 6 Pro, which is already available in Thailand and Indonesia and is slated to launch in India on 22nd November. In the UK, the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model of the Pocophone F1 is priced at £329 (approximately $422) while the 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage model costs £349, which roughly converts to $448.

At its Mi Store, the company is also selling two Android One smartphones — Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. In the Redmi series, the Chinese company has five phones available in the UK — Redmi Note 6 Pro, Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Redmi Note 5, and Redmi S2.

It has also launched three audio products — Mi In-ear Headphones Pro 2, Mi Sports Bluetooth Earphones, and Mi Headphones Comfort. It is also selling three models of its power banks, Mi Band 3 along with its different colored straps, and a motion-activated smart night light.

The store is a flagship store and is the first of many that would be opened in other cities soon. The Mi Home combines old-fashioned retail with internet plus and new retail strategy. The first thing that stands it out is its sheer size. It is a huge two-floor store measuring 650 square meters. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece designed by Eight Inc. Xiami says the designer Tim Kobe is one of the brains behind the minimalistic glass cube Apple store in New York’s 5th Avenue.

You’ll be mistaken if you think this is just another replication or imitation of APple’s concept. The flagship Mi Home goes beyond, as it has a rich lineup of products including Xiaomi’s smartphones and also the Mi Ecosystem products such as Mi Sphere camera, Mi Robot Vacuum, Mi Powerbank, Smart Bike, and hundreds of others. Xiaomi was once heralded as the internet phone king of China after it took the centre stage in selling its smartphones in China. That has however seen a decline due to the influx of other phone makers into the online channel. The likes of OPPO and Vivo have even outpaced Xiaomi by incorporating both offline and online sales channels, leading to a serious decline in revenue. This has prompted the company, dubbed the Apple of China, to open offline stores in China. 

Xiaomi had revealed last year that it plans to open 1000 Mi stores across several cities in China by the year 2020. In order to achieve that target, the company’s CEO Lei Jun hinted earlier this year that this company would open over 200 retail stores this year. The company has now hit 100 stores in total since the start of the project.The figure followed the opening of four new shops in Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Foshan and Shanghai. The achievement si coming just five months after the 50th Mi home store was opened in December.

At present, the Mi Home stores are located in major cities like Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Chengdu, Hangzho, Wuhan, Zhuzhai, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Wuxi, Dongguan, Jinan, Dalian, Xiamen, Qingdao, Shenyang and others. Apart from sales, the shops cater for after sales service needs of customers as well as sales of accessories and technical support services. From the look of things, the Mi Stores seem to also stock other Mi smart gadgets apart from smartphones.

Xiaomi yesterday announced that from 10 am today being 11.11, the Xiaomi Mix and Mi Note 2 would go on offline sale on the official Mi home stores in China. The company also disclosed that sales of both highly sought after devices would be on first come first serve basis. A long queue of persons wanting to buy either devices, especially the Xiaomi Mix was expected but what we didn’t envisage was that some fans would spend the night outside the Xiaomi official stores so as to be in good stead to grab one of the device.

According to pictures shared by Xiaomi’s co-founder and Vice-President, Wang Chuan, fans braced the winter cold to stay outside the stores in large numbers. Most of them came prepared, decked in winter jacket, some with plastic seats while other came with a hot water flask or teas cups to perhaps provide tea or coffee which would help drive away the piercing winter cold.

It wasn’t a male-only affair, though, as the females were not left out and a good number of them could be spotted in the long queues. Those that couldn’t find seats are either standing or seated on the bare floor. The queues are expected to surge as the day get by.

No doubt, this is another demonstration of the huge popularity of the two Xiaomi flagships both in China and even overseas. The Mi Mix and Note 2 had gone on their first and second flash sales and cumulatively the sales didn’t last up to one minute, gone in seconds on both occasions.
