Xiaomi has just announced earlier today (15th September 2021) that it has opened 100+ new exclusive physical stores in India. The move from the company arrives as it seeks to bolster its ‘retail footprint’ in the region.

The Chinese tech giant shared the news today, stating that it has added new stores across tier 5 and tier 6 markets. Though this, the company has official opened stores ranging from Kashmir in the north to Kanyakumari in the south of India. Furthermore, the new stores have sought to boost its presence in rural regions in the country. The brand’s new 100+ stores target the tier 5 and tier 6 cities, which have a popular count fewer than 50,000 people.

For those unaware, the company opened its first flagship retail store in India back in 2018 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Since then, it has managed to reach a notable milestone by opening over 3,000+ offline stores in the country. Additionally, Xiaomi had also committed to open 6,000 stores within the next 2 years with a planned investment of 100 Crore INR (roughly 13.6 million US Dollars).

Xiaomi has just announced a number of new products (1,2) in India. Through its Mi India brand, the company has released new IoT (Internet of Things) products in the region, which includes a new home security camera, WiFi router, and even running shoes as well.

Mi 360° Home Security Camera 2K Pro

The company has just launched a series of new electronic products in India and one of the new electronic gadget includes the Mi 360° Home Security Camera 2K Pro. This product is an upgraded security solution that the Chinese tech giant has designed to ensure the users’ safety. The security camera arrives equipped with a F1.4 aperture and 6P Lens that records at 2K resolution for better details and sharper videos. It features a high sensitivity image sensor that displays color video even in low light conditions as well.

Furthermore, the low light recordings are also enhanced by the 940nm infrared light sensor. The device supports dual band WiFi connectivity and supports 2.4Ghz and 5GHz frequencies. The Mi 360° Home Security Camera 2K Pro also offers physical privacy shield that blocks its lens once it is switched off from the Mi Hope app. It even offers 2 way voice calling along with active noise reduction technology while offering a full 360° horizontal coverage with a 118° FOV. The device supports microSD local storage, along with free 7 days of rolling cloud storage and NAS storage as well.

Xiaomi Running Shoes

Interestingly, the brand has also launched new running shoes as well. These running shoes are designed to power the users’ run by offering a “perfect balance of comfort and functionality.” It is made by 4D fly woven upper and herringbone locking system, which allows one’s feet to breathe easily. The shoes are crafted with a 5 in 1 uni molding technology that combines 4 different components in a single mold to offer lasting durability.

The new running shoes is ergonomically designed with dynamic energy absorption with anti twist feature that help in smooth landing without it slipping from the user’s foot, which could cause twists and injuries. Additionally, the shoes also offers a 3M reflective Xiaomi logo at the back and the laces for added night visibility and Microban protection against odor causing microbes and bacteria. The shoes will be available in three colors, namely Blue, Gray, and Black.

Mi Router 4A Gigabit Edition

One of the new products includes the Mi Router 4A Gigabit Edition. The new router arrives with a minimalist design that is made to blend into any part of the house. It is a fibre optic full Gigabit router that has an overall bandwidth of 1167 Mbs speed for faster and smoother internet connection. The router’s signals can also pass through walls thanks to its 4 High Gain omni directional Antennas and Integrated signal amplifiers that improve transmission performance.

Impressively, the device is capable of being connected to up to 128 smart home devices at the same time. Since the router supports dual band frequencies, it can offer 300Mbps over its 2.4Ghz band and 867Mbps from its 5GHz band. This makes it an ideal router for streaming, gaming, and video calling among various other workloads. The new WiFi router can be set up with the Mi WiFi App that enables the user to control it from anywhere.

The Xiaomi Running Shoe will be available for crowdfunding on the official Mi website in India starting from August 26, while the Mi Router and Mi 360° Home Security Camera will be available on Amazon India, Flipkart, and authorized retail stores starting from September 15. Earlier this week, the Chinese tech giant shared the announcement regarding the delay of the Mi 11 Ultra sales in India on its official Indian Twitter handle. In a hared letter, the company said that “We understand that many of you are keen to buy this ultra-premium flagship smartphone. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, we regret to inform you that there will be a delay in shipments of Mi 11 Ultra.” Xiaomi added that it is working hard to bring its latest flagship into the Indian market as soon as possible and will announce the sale date once “current situation improves soon.”

While the company refrained from revealing the exact detail or issues that are causing the delay, it is speculated that the vendor might be facing supply and production difficulties due to the resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic that has led to lockdowns being imposed in the country again. For those unaware, the Mi 11 Ultra is priced at 69,990 INR (roughly 960 US Dollars) for its single 12GB RAM + 256GB storage configuration.

The device has been launched in two color variants, namely Black and White variants. It sports a 6.81 inch WQHD+ E4 AMOLED primary display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate along with a 1.1 inch secondary display. Xiaomi has just launched the Mi 11X series in India. In the lineup, the company announced the Mi 11X and the Mi 11X Pro. These devices are essentially the rebranded Redmi K40 and Mi 11i respectively and offer top notch specifications at a reasonable price tag.

In the Chinese tech giant’s Mi Mega Launch event, the company unveiled its flagship Mi 11 Ultra, the new Mi QLED TV 75 inch, and the Mi 11X series. Xiaomi had just recently teased the new handsets earlier this month and they are finally here. The ‘X’ in the model name is to showcase the device’s Xtreme performance, feature Xceptional Display, and Xquisite design. Notably, these devices are also a part of the company’s ‘Made in India” lineup and support local features like NavIC positioning system.

Talking about the specs of these new devices, both the Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro feature an identical display. The lineup sports an E4 AMOLED display that offers a peak brightness of 1300 nits. Furthermore, the screen also supports high refresh rate of 120Hz and 360Hz touch sampling rate. The 6.67 inch panel also supports HDR 10+ and has a FHD+ resolution. On the front, a 20 megapixel punch hole selfie camera can also be found, which features EIS stabilization.

Under the hood, the Pro variant features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC, which is paired with UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM. On the other hand, the base variant sports a Snapdragon 870 SoC. For memory, the Mi 11X Pro offers 8GB of RAM along with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, the Mi 11X will arrive in a 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM variant that will be paired with 128GB of internal storage. The Mi 11X series is powered by a large 4520mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging as well.

Talking about the cameras, the Mi 11X Pro offers a triple camera module, with a 108 megapixel primary sensor, which is paired with an 8 megapixel ultra wide lens and a 5 megapixel macro camera. The Mi 11X also sports a triple camera setup as well, but with a 48 megapixel primary sensor, along with 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens and 5 megapixel macro camera.

Arriving at the pricing of the lineup, the Mi 11X arrives in two variants:

• Mi 11X (6GB + 128GB) – 29,999 INR (roughly 400 US Dollars)
• Mi 11X (8GB + 128GB) – 31,999 INR (roughly 427 US Dollars)

Similarly, the Mi 11X Pro will also be available in two variants:

India is a very big market for several brands including Xiaomi. The Chinese technology company is not only a leader in the Indian smartphone market but has also topped the smart TV market for 10 consecutive quarters. Today, the manufacturer announced that practically all its phones and smart TVs sold in the country are made there, thanks to the Indian government’s “Made in India” initiative.

In a post shared on its official blog, Xiaomi India said it was one of the early adopters of the current Prime Minister’s “Made in India” initiative. Some of its phones were already being made in the country via its manufacturing partners – Foxconn and Flex and it has added more over the years.

Today, it announced that it is adding two more manufacturing partners to ramp up the production of its smartphones in the country. The first is DBG which has set up a plant in Haryana while the other is BYD which will be setting up a plant in Tamil Nadu. Xiaomi says the former has already increased its monthly manufacturing capacity by about 20% while BYD is also expected to make a significant contribution once it begins operations later this year.

Xiaomi (Mi India) has not only focused on manufacturing but also on the sourcing of smartphone components. The press release revealed that key components such as PCBAs, sub-board, camera module, battery, back panels, USB cables, chargers, and boxes are sourced locally or locally made in India. Some of these components are said to be manufactured by companies such as Sunny India, NVT, Salcomp, LY Tech, and Sunvoda.

The tech giant has also onboarded a new TV manufacturing partner called Radiant Technology. The new partner has a plant located in Telangana and has helped Xiaomi achieve a 100% target of locally made smart TVs.

The addition of these new factories also means the company’s workforce has increased. Xiaomi says its partners provided employment for 10,000 new workers last year, thus bringing its extended workforce to a total of 60,000.

Earlier today (12th January 2021), Xiaomi India made the announcement that its newly launched Mi 10i 5G achieved a record breaking sales worth 200 crores INR (roughly 27 million US Dollars) during its first open sale in India, across multiple platforms.

The Mi 10i from the Chinese tech giant is the first smartphone from the company to offer a 108 megapixel camera along with Qualcomm’s 5G enabled Snapdragon 750G processor. The Mi 10i went on sale for the first time exclusively for Prime members on Amazon India on 7th January 2021 and across all Mi India retail channels, including its official website, Mi Homes, and Mi Studios starting from 8th January 2021. Through the Mi Smart Upgrade, customers can encash their devices from anywhere between 3 to 15 months from the date of purchase, with the exchange value being anywhere between 40 to 70 percent of the original SRP value of the handset. Furthermore, users can also be assured of 70 percent buyback value for the device under 6 months old, 60 percent for those between 7 to 9 months old, 50 percent on 10 to 12 months, and 40 percent from devices that are 13 to 15 months old.

The Xiaomi buyback scheme will be available through authorized Mi retailers and can be activated through a simple enrolment process that requires only minimal documentation. Furthermore, users can also purchase buyback options which start from 399 INR (roughly 5 US Dollars) for devices like the Redmi 9 Prime and up to 1,999 INR (roughly 27 US Dollars) for the Mi 10. Customers can also buy the Mi Smart Upgrade plans alongside a new device from authorized Mi retailers.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has been extremely successful in the Indian market. Since its first entry into the region, it has become the most popular brand in the region and has now also received the title for the top brand in terms of smartphone quality.

The company received the title after RedQuanta, a customer intelligence firm, reported on its findings of a study that was conducted in over 25 cities with over a thousand respondents. The primary goal of the study was to find the top smartphone brand in the market, in terms of the perceived quality of its handsets. In the study, multiple factors were taken into consideration, which includes the camera, battery life, durability, and value for money.

The report found that Mi India led the rank in two of these aspects, namely camera, and long battery life. Furthermore, the company also arrived on top of its known affordability. The study found that most respondents placed an emphasis on a “good quality” smartphone. While the recommended score is 83 percent as per the firm, Xiaomi managed to achieve a score of 86 percent on post purchase satisfaction.

Mi India has sold 5 million smartphones during the festive season sales in the country. The company, through a press release, says it’s offline retail partners also plays a part in doubling the business this time.

India’s biggest festive season held between (October 15- October 21) and Xiaomi tagline it as “Diwali with Mi”. The offers were across the board on online e-commerce sites like Amazon, Flipkart, it’s own mi.com, and offline stores. Apart from online, Xiaomi says the biggest highlight was the aid of 15,000+ retail partners and their discounts. However, it’s really surprising to see people turn up to offline stores in lots. And buy products considering the current scenario.

Additionally, Amazon, Flipkart, and mi.com has reportedly received orders from over 17,000 pin codes. This is understandable considering online sites turned the tide this year with offers. Both Redmi, and Xioami Mi smartphones fell under the radar of huge discounts, easy EMI options, cashback etc. Some of the notable ones include Mi 10 flagship which received a huge ₹5,000 off and started at ₹44,999. As for the budget series, the Redmi Note 9, 9 Pro Max had received a ₹1,000 discount. But the Note 9 Pro got an even higher ₹1,500 additional discount on the original price.

Xiaomi says the sales were mixed with first-time buyers and people who upgraded to a higher price range. Raghu Reddy, Chief Business Officer, Mi India, says, “The 5 million mark is a testimony of our consumers’ trust in our products. To the best of our knowledge, no other brand has ever achieved this before. We, at Mi India, aim to keep delivering the highest quality products at honest prices.””.

Xiaomi has become an inevitable brand in India. From a small team in 2015, it has risen to a point where Giants like Samsung have skipped a beat looking at the numbers. Although it has recently lost the crown to Samsung by a meager margin of 4%, sales like these and future smartphone launches mean they are here to stay. And could snatch the crown back anytime.

Recently, Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi, was caught up in a controversial situation after it was found by users that the company’s smartphones were not displaying weather for Arunachal Pradesh, India. Xiaomi’s official spokesperson has clarified that it was indeed a glitch.  “There was a technical issue in our weather app that we had identified. The same has been fixed.”

As per an official statement from the company, “At Mi India, we take great pride in the love and trust that our fans and consumers across the country have bestowed on us. We would like to clarify that the weather app on our devices uses data from multiple third-party data sources and we understand that for many locations, the weather-related data is not available on the current app. This is a technical error on our application.”

The Mi KN95 Mask is being launched in the country as a daily driver for those looking for better protection during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. It offers four layers of protection, which is fabricated with a non woven material on the outermost part for filtering particles and the innermost layer for optimal breathing. The Mi KN95 Masks from Xiaomi also offers two layers of melt blown fabric that help in filtering bacteria and small particles.

The mask also conforms with the standard values and arrives with a 95 percent + Bacterial Filter Efficiency (BFE). Xiaomi has opened its first Mi Home Experience Store in Chennai, located at Phoenix Market City Mall in Velachery. This marks the company’s 25th Mi Home store in the country and will be open for customers from March 1, 2018.

The aim of this experience store is to showcase products from the company that has not been launched in India, and not just the products that have been launched in India. The China-based company says that it is on track to open its 100th store in India by the end of this year.

Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India’s MD and Xiaomi’s Global Vice President said, “think of this as a flagship Mi Home, where we will show not just the products that we have already launched in India, but also the ones that we want to bring to the market.”

This new Mi Home Experience Store in Chennai is divided into three parts – the first showcases products such as the Ninebot Plus “hoverboard”, and the Mi Robot Builder. The second part showcases different phones that the company is selling and products such as the Mi Air Purifier. The third part again shows products that are not yet available in India, such as the company’s laptops, its rice cooker, and water purifier, among others.

Manu Kumar Jain adds, “most people think of Xiaomi as only a phone brand, but actually, there are a host of products that we have that are not being sold in India. We have a portable air purifier that you can take in a car, smart scooters, laptops, robot vacuum cleaners, our electric toothbrush, and more.”

According to Xiaomi, the idea behind showcasing these products to Indian consumers is to gauge interest in bringing them to the country and to work out how to customize these products to make them successful in India.

The company is also planning to open at least one Mi Home Experience Store in the major cities of India, and after Chennai, the next two planned cities are Delhi and Mumbai. In India, the company has recently launched Mi Smart LED TV 4 and two new smartphones — Redmi Note 5 and the Note 5 Pro.
