Before the end of the year, Xiaomi controlled the largest share of the market. Xiaomi sells five different models in the country that cover a range of prices. A tweet posted by the TV brand’s official Twitter account teases a new Mi LED TV is coming soon to the market and it may be their biggest yet.

The tweet which was posted earlier today includes a picture of the bottom part of a Xiaomi-branded TV and also has the hashtag #TheBiggerPicture.

At the moment, the Mi LED TV 4 Pro 55 is Xiaomi’s biggest TV sold in India. However, in its home country of China, Xiaomi has 58”, 65”, and even 75” models. We do not know which of these sizes Xiaomi will launch in India but our bet is on a 65” model.

Xiaomi already has a factory in India that makes its TVs but based on the info provided when the factory was opened, it would start with manufacturing the Mi LED TV 4A 32” and Mi LED TV 4A 43” before adding new models later this year. Thus the chances are slim that this new model will be made in India since the factory doesn’t even currently make the 49” and 55” Mi LED TVs sold in the country.

From launching the first Mi TV on 14th Feb, 2018 to becoming the #1SmartTVBrand, we have come a long way. And we are not going to stop. #TheBiggerPicture coming soon.

There is no info about when the launch will take place yet but that should surface in the coming days.

Xiaomi’s TVs sold in India are specially designed for the market. Owners can plug in their set-top boxes to the TV and use the TV’s remote to control it thanks to Xiaomi’s Patchwall technology. There are also lots of contents to stream from the TV’s own Android TV-based OS.

Due to the depreciation of the Indian rupee, the company had increased the pricing of Mi LED TV in November last year. Recently, the company announced a price drop on a couple of smartphone models.

Now, the China-based company has announced price drop on three of its Mi LED TV models in the Indian market. The company says that the price cut comes following the decision by Government of India wherein Goods and Service Tax (GST) on television sets have been reduced from 28 percent to 18 percent on TVs up to 32-inches.

Xiaomi also adds that the company is following its philosophy of ensuring that whenever the company makes more than 5 percent profit margin on any hardware products, it tries to give it back to the customers, which the company calls ‘Mi Fans.’

The Xiaomi Mi LED Smart TV 4A 32-inch model has received a price cut of Rs. 1,500 (~$22) and is now available for Rs. 12,499, roughly $179. The Mi LED TV 4C PRO 32-inch model, on the other hand, has received Rs. 2,000 ($29) price cut, bringing the price down to Rs. 13,999, which converts to around $201.

Apart from the 32-inch models, the Mi LED TV 4A PRO 49-inch model has also received a price drop of Rs. 1,000 (approximately $14), making Rs. 30,999 ($445) as the new effective price. The company says that the price cut on this 49-inch model is due to recent dollar moderation.

The report reveals that Xiaomi, a new player in the smart TV market, became the leading brand in just six months. The company was able to triple its shipments in Q2-2018 to become the market leader in the smart TV category. According to Xiaomi, they have sold half a million TVs since their entry into India.

The company which is an off-shoot of OPPO gave the reason for the upward price adjustment to be the weakening Indian Rupee. Today, it is Xiaomi‘s turn to increase prices and it affects a lot more products.

The announcement was made on Twitter by the managing director of Xiaomi India, Manu Jumar Jain. He explained that the reason for the price increase is due to the Indian Rupee’s depreciation against the US Dollar by ~15% since the beginning of the year. Below is a list of the affected products and their new prices:

Redmi 6A

The 2GB RAM + 16GB and 2GB RAM + 32GB models of the Redmi 6A will add INR 600 and INR 500 to their old prices respectively and will now be sold for INR 6,599 (~$91) and INR 7,499 (~$104).

Redmi 6

The Redmi 6 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage will also get a INR 500 price increase and will be sold for INR 8,499 (~$117) henceforth.

Mi LED TV

The price increase affects the Mi LED TV 4C Pro 32 and the Mi LED TV 4A Pro 49. Xiaomi has added INR 1,000 and INR 2,000 to their old prices respectively. Henceforth, the 32-inch 4C Pro will be sold for INR 15,999 (~$220) and the 49-inch 4A Pro will go for INR 31,999 (~$441).

Xiaomi entered into the Indian smart TV market this year and has now become the number one brand in the segment. However, the increase in the price of the TVs may slow down its growth.

Mi Power Bank 2i (1o,000mAh Black)

The black Mi Power Bank 2i with a battery capacity of 10,000mAh gets a INR 100 price increase and will now be sold for INR 899 (~$12.40). The limited edition Red variant is currently sold at the above price.

Xiaomi said the new price for the above products will take effect at midnight, 11th of November, 2018. As at the time of writing, there is still about 7 hours left for you to make your orders at the old price.

The report covers smart speakers, smart TVs, connected lights, thermostats, and smart home security products etc. The market grew by 107% YOY which is quite impressive but what’s more amazing is Xiaomi, a new player in the smart TV market became the leading brand in just six months.

Back in February, when Xiaomi announced the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, it also announced its first smart TV in the country, the Mi LED TV 4 PRO 55”. On its first flash sales, the TV sold out in under 10 seconds even with its Rs. 39,999 (~$624) price tag.

In the following months, Xiaomi launched cheaper models of its TVs – the Mi LED TV 4A 32” and the Mi LED TV 4A 43” which are priced at Rs. 13,999 (~$190) and Rs. 22,999 (~$313) respectively and are much more affordable than the first TV it announced. It has also added the Mi LED TV 4C PRO 32” and Mi LED TV 4A PRO 49” to its inventory.

Xiaomi was able to triple its shipments in the second quarter of the year to become the market leader in the smart TV category. According to Xiaomi, they have sold half a million TVs since their entry into India.

Xiaomi’s TVs are not just cheaper than that of the competition in India, they are also customized for the market. Owners can connect their set-top boxes to the TV and view the content alongside online content instead of switching from one to the other. The bundled remote with the TV also works with the connected set-top box.
