Interestingly, apart from new devices, the company has also discounted some old discontinued products by a high margin. Although this move is obviously meant to clear the old stock, the deals are not bad either as these smartphones can still perform well and they even have good third-party software support.

Almost all Xiaomi products are on sale at Mi Home stores ahead of Valentine’s Day. Also, a similar sale is live on Mi.com as well. But here in this article, we have only mentioned the old smartphones that are worth buying for their discounted price in 2021.

With that being said, let us take a look at these deals.

You might be wondering why we are recommending these old handsets since software support has ended for them except the Redmi K20 series. Because these devices are still capable of performing day to day tasks and one need not spend more money.

After several weeks of leaks, Xiaomi has unveiled the highly anticipated Xiaomi Mi Max 3 smartphone. Compared to the predecessor Mi Max 2, its successor has arrived with improvements in 7 departments such as design, display, battery, rear camera, front camera, processor, and additional biometric recognition feature.

Design

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 that measures 176.2 x 87.4 x 8mm is slightly bigger and thinner than the Mi Max 2 with dimensions 174.1 x 88.7 x 7.6mm. The size of the phone is similar to a traditional 6.3-inch smartphone.

By reducing the upper bezel by 4.7mm, the lower one by 7mm and narrowing the chassis by 1.3mm, Xiaomi has managed to pack a huge display of 6.9 inches on the Mi Max 3. Like the predecessor model, the Mi Max 3 also features a full unibody design and its thin profile makes it comfortable to hold with one hand. The three color variants of the Mi Max 3 are Black Stone, Deep Sea Blue and Dream Gold.

Display

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 features a huge display of 6.9 inches that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9 along with FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. According to Xiaomi, the Mi Max 3 offers a screen-to-body ratio 85.19 percent.

Compared to the Mi Max 2, the company has increased the screen’s brightness by 19 percent on the Mi Max 3 and also it offers 50 percent higher contrast. It offers 17 percent more color gamut than the Mi Max 2. It goes without saying that the large display offers a better viewing experience. The smartphone also supports display features like split-screen and picture-in-picture.

Battery

The Mi Max 3 has a 5,500mAh battery which means it includes 200mAh more power than the predecessor model. The gigantic battery makes it possible to use the smartphone for 2 days with charging it once. It offers a standby time of one month.

Moreover, the smartphone also includes support for Quick Charge 3.0 allows it to gain 71 percent of battery juice by charging it for an hour. Xiaomi has also included reverse charging feature on the Mi Max 3 through which it can be used for charging other devices like phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth headsets and so on.

Processor

The original Mi Max and Mi Max 2 were both powered by Snapdragon 625. The newer Mi Max 3 has arrived with Snapdragon 636 that delivers 40 percent better performance than SD625. The 14nm SoC consumes less power and delivers smoother performance while multitasking on the phone.

The 128 GB storage model of the Mi Max 3 has 6 GB of RAM whereas the base variant of 64 GB has 4 GB of RAM. For enhanced gaming experience on games like Arena of Valor, the Mi Max 3 supports high frame multi-core multi-threading and offers gaming features like game toolbox, one-click acceleration, screen and video capture as well as quickly reply on WeChat.

Cameras

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 features 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel AI dual camera with a pixel size of 1.4μm along with dual PD dual-core focus that offers faster and accurate autofocus. The AI driven rear cameras also supports better low-light photography, up to 206 kinds of scene detection, object recognition and portrait shots. The frontside of the smartphone is fitted with an 8-megapixel selfie camera along with a dedicated soft-light LED flash. With AI onboard, the selfie camera of the Xiaomi phablet can capture selfie shots with bokeh effect.

Other Features

Like the Mi Max 3, the successor phone is equipped with dual speakers for stereo sound output while watching movies and enjoying games. The handset is preinstalled with Android 8.1 Oreo and the latest edition of MIUI which also brings along Xiao AI voice assistant.

The 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 4 GB variants of the Mi Max 2 were respectively made available for 1,699 Yuan (~$252) and 1,999 Yuan. (~$296) Even though the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 comes with many improvements, it has arrived with the same pricing as the predecessor model.

The 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB models of the Mi Max 3 carry respective price tags of 1,699 Yuan (~$252) and 1,999 Yuan. (~$296). Starting from July 20, the Mi Max 3 will be available for buying through multiple platforms in China such as Xiaomi Home, Gome, Suning, Xiaomi Mall app, Tmall, Jingdong and other online and offline stores.

Xiaomi will be holding a launch event for the Mi Max 3 today evening at 7:30 PM in China. Xiaomi President Lin Bin has claimed on Weibo that it will be announcing “one more thing” at the event. What could it be? Snapdragon 710 edition of Mi Max 3 or the release date of Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition? Before drawing conclusions, it is advisable to wait for the event to go live.

A leaked photo has surfaced today that shows the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Max 3 sitting besides its predecessor, the Mi Max 2 smartphone. The image shows that the form factor of the Mi Max 3 is quite similar to the predecessor and still it manages to offer a larger display. Also, newer reports have also revealed the differences between their specs.

Dimensions and Display

In the below image, the Mi Max 2 is placed on the left whereas its upcoming successor is seated on the right. The Mi Max 2 measures 174.1 x 88.7 x 7.6mm and it houses a 6.44-inch display with capacitive buttons on the lower bezel.

The TENAA listing of the Mi Max 3 has revealed that it will be a tall aspect ratio smartphone with an elongated form factor. Its dimensions are 176.2 x 87.4 x 8mm. The upper and lower bezels of the Mi Max 3 are reduced. Instead of capacitive buttons, the smartphone will feature on-screen buttons for navigation.

Performance: Battery, SoC and Variants

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 includes a 5,300mAh capacity and it weighs 211 grams. The Mi Max 3 weighs 221 grams as it is packed with a 5,500mAh battery. Xiaomi has included support for Quick Charge 3.0 on the Mi Max 3, whereas the large battery of Mi Max 2 lacks support for fast charging.

Even though 14nm Snapdragon 625 is a power efficient SoC, the Mi Max 2 was criticized during its launch as it featured the same SoC that powered the original Mi Max smartphone from 2016. The new 14nm Snapdragon 636 SoC will be powering the Mi Max 3. As far as its performance is concerned, it is said to be on par with Snapdragon 820 SoC that were found under the hood of the flagship phones from 2016. The Mi Max 3 is also expected to include the new dual-band GPS technology feature for accurate navigation experience.

The 64 GB and 128 GB storage variants of the Mi Max 2 featured 4 GB of RAM. Few months after the launch of the Mi Max 2, Xiaomi had also launched its 32 GB storage + 4 GB RAM edition. The successor smartphone will be arriving in two RAM variants of 4 GB and 6 GB and they will respectively feature 64 GB and 128 GB of storage. The TENAA listing of the Mi Max 3 also includes a 32 GB model. Probably, the Chinese manufacturer may introduce it few months later.

Rear and Front Cameras

The Mi Max 2 has a 12-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The Mi Max 3 is the first Mi Max phone to include a dual camera setup. It will be arriving with Sony IMX363 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera module. The 8-megapixel frontal shooter on the Mi Max 3 will be equipped with soft light LED flash. A slew of AI-based functions such AI scene recognition, AI object identification, AI voice assistant and AI photography. Apart from fingerprint scanner that is also available on the Mi Max 2, the Mi Max 3 will be also equipped with AI driven facial recognition.

Pricing and Color Variants

The 64 GB and 128 GB storage editions of the Mi Max 2 were made available in 1,699 Yuan (~$253) and 1,999 Yuan pricing (~$298). The pricing of the 64 GB and 128 GB models of the Mi Max 3 are not known. The Mi Max 2 was launched in colors like black and gold. Apart from gold and black hues, the Mi Max 3 will be also arriving in a new blue colored variant.

On May 31, Xiaomi had announced the all new MIUI 10 ROM. At the beginning of June, it had rolled out the Developer ROM closed beta in China for first batch of devices and the same devices had received public beta by the end of the month. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has released the developer ROM closed beta to the second batch of devices.

The first batch of devices that were treated with MIUI 10 Developer ROM included Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Mi 6, Mi MIX 2S, Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Redmi S2 and Redmi Note 5. Since the registrations for the Developer ROM closed beta ended yesterday in China, the company has made it available to the second batch of Xiaomi phones starting from today. After the closed beta testing comes to an end, the public beta is likely to arrive for the same second batch of devices by the end of this month.

The second batch of 17 Xiaomi phones that are now receiving the MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta are Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5S, Mi 5X, Mi 5C, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 5A, Note 5A Prime, Redmi Note 4X (Snapdragon variant), Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5, Redmi 5A and Redmi 4X.

The company has stated that the arrival of the public beta of Mi 5X will be delayed. The specific release time for the smartphone will be announced through its social media channels. By this, Xiaomi is bringing the latest MIUI 10 to a total of 27 smartphones.

The MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta can be installed in two ways. Devices on MIUI 6, 7, 8 and 9 developer version can navigate to System Settings > My Device > MIUI version and then access the direct OTA update. It is recommended to back up devices on MIUI 6, 7, 8 and 9 stable versions are recommended ad then install the upgrade via fastboot with unlocked bootloader.

After releasing the list of top 10 high performance Android phones for June month, AnTuTu has now released the list of top 10 most favorite smartphones for the same month. The following list contains Android phones that were highly rated by users on the AnTuTu app between June 1 and June 30.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is leading the list with a positive rating of 95 percent. The handset was launched in early 2017. It features a regular 4K HDR display of 5.5 inches and is powered by Snapdragon 834. Other specs of the XZ Premium include SD835, 64 GB storage, 4 GB RAM, 19-megapixel rear camera and 3,230mAh battery.

The Meizu PRO 6 Plus that was launched at the end of 2016 follows XZ Premium with a positive rating of 94 percent. It includes 5.7-inch 2K display, Exynos 8890 SoC, 4 GB RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera with 4-axis OIS and 3,400mAh battery.

The OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 are tied on the third spot with a positive score of 93 percent. The OP6 is a 2018 flagship phone that features a 6.28-inch notched Optic AMOLED display, SD845 SoC, 6GB / 8GB RAM, 64 GB / 128 GB / 256 GB storage, 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera and 3,300mAh battery. The Mi MIX 2 has 5.99-inch 18:9 aspect ratio screen, Snapdragon 835, up to 8 GB RAM, up to 256 GB storage, 12-megapixel rear camera and 3,400mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are on the fourth position with a positive score of 92 percent. The fifth spot is occupied by Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and Redmi Note 4X phones that managed to salvage a positive rating of 90 percent.

The above list is mainly dominated by older phones and the only new phones to make it to the list are OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi 8. Surprisingly, the list does not include a single phone by Huawei. The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will be unveiled in this month, but the launch date is still under the wraps. The appearance of the smartphone has been already revealed through images that have surfaced through its TENAA certification. Here are some images of the transparent TPU case designed for the upcoming Mi Max 3. These images show that the handset will be arriving with a slight change in its design.

The TPU case images reveal that the most significant change that will be arriving on the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is the inclusion of vertical dual camera setup. The fingerprint scanner stays intact on the rear panel like the predecessor model.

Towards the corner of upper edge of the case for Mi Max 3 is a cutout for a 3.5mm audio jack. There is a cutout for IR blaster at the center of the top edge. The right edge of the case has cutouts for volume rocker and power key. The bottom edge of the case cutouts for external speakers and a USB-C port.

These images reveal that apart from the inclusion of vertical dual camera setup, there won’t be any major design change on the Mi Max 3. Recent reports including an image of the retail box of Mi Max 3 have revealed that it will be a mammoth device.

It has been found through the TENAA listing of Mi Max 3 that it will be arriving with a notch-less FHD+ screen that measures 6.99 inches and offers 18:9 aspect ratio. The Snapdragon 636 or the newly announced Snapdragon 632 could be present under the hood of the phone. It is expected to arrive in RAM variants like 3 GB, 4 GB and 6 GB that may respectively house 32 GB, 64 G and 128 GB of inbuilt storage.

The dual camera setup of the Mi Max 3 is expected to include a 12-megapixel sensor. It may sport an 8-megapixel frontal shooter. The Android 8.1 Oreo flavored with the latest edition of MIUI will be arriving preloaded on the phablet. A 5,500mAh battery is pegged to power it.

As the rumor mill had claimed, the handset features a huge 6.9-inch display that supports Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels along with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The handset is fueled by an octa-core processor that clocks at 1.8 GHz processor which suggests that it could be driven by Snapdragon 636 SoC. However, the rumor mill is speculating that there could be a higher model featuring Snapdragon 710. The Mi Max 3 has a mammoth battery of 5,400mAh capacity.

The M1804E4C variant has an inbuilt storage of 64 GB storage and 4 GB of RAM. The M1804E4T and M1804E4A variants are expected to arrive in variants like 32 GB storage + 3 GB RAM, 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. These models have a microSD card slot. The Mi Max 3 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo preinstalled. Probably, it may come preloaded with MIUI 10 ROM.

Rumors have surrounding the Mi Max 3 as well as it alleged firmware files have revealed that it will be arriving a with dual camera setup. Sadly, the TENAA listings do not confirm whether it will feature a dual camera system. The TENAA listings reveal that at least of the camera sensors lying on the back of the Mi Max 3 will be of 12-megapixel. Lastly, the M1804E4C has only 5-megapixel of front-facing camera while the other models are fitted with selfie shooters of 8-megapixel.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had confirmed in the previous month that the company would be announcing the Mi Max 3 smartphone in July. A new Xiaomi phone with model number M1807E8S enabled with support for fast charging has been approved by 3C certification body in China. It is now being speculated that M1807E8S could be the upcoming Mi Max 3.

As it can be seen in the below image, the M1807E8S Xiaomi device is carries support for 5V / 3A, 9V / 2A and 12V / 1.5A. It means that the handset will be equipped with support for up to 18W fast charging.

Leaked firmware files of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 smartphone had surfaced four months ago had revealed that it would be equipped with an 18:9 aspect ratio supporting screen. It is also speculated that the handset will be lacking a 3.5mm audio jack.

Also, the phablet is pegged to feature a dual camera setup. It is speculated that Sony IMX363 will be its primary sensor which can be also found on premium phones like Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S and Mi 8. Some of the other features that are expected to arrive on the Mi Max 3 include support for wireless charging and iris scanner.

Some rumors are speculating that the Snapdragon 710 chipset would be powering the Mi Max 3 phone. Leaked firmware files that had surfaced in April had revealed that Comet and Sirius are the codenames of the two upcoming Xiaomi phones that are powered by the all new Snapdragon 710 SoC. The Sirius smartphone was recently unveiled as the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE phone. The Comet phone has specs like OLED display, Android 8.1 Oreo and 3,100mAh battery which suggests that this SD710 powered device could be some other Mi phone and not the Mi Max 3. There is a possibility that Xiaomi may power the Mi Max 3 with SD660 chipset.

Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi 6 series on June 12. The series is expected to include Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro/Plus smartphones. It seems that the Chinese manufacturer will start teasing on the features of the Mi Max 3 after the announcement of the Redmi 6 series.

Since Xiaomi had launched the Mi Max 2 in May last year, it is speculated that the Mi Max 3 may arrive as a successor phone in the next month. Xiaomi may have slashed the price of the Mi Max 2 now in order to clear its stocks and make way for the rumored Mi Max 3.

Leaked firmware files that belong to the Mi Max 3 that had surfaced around two months ago had revealed plenty of information on it. The Mi Max 3 is expected to arrive with a full screen design that will feature an elongated FHD+ display of 6.99 inches. It may feature a huge battery of 5,500mAh capacity that may be enabled with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging. Also, it is likely to support Qi wireless charging. The handset is also speculated to feature iris scanner.

Rumors surrounding the phone suggest that it will be equipped with dual rear cameras and it may not feature a 3.5mm audio jack. The Mi Max 3 may arrive in two models. Xiaomi had launched the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 smartphone in May last year. Hence, the rumor mill has been speculating that the Chinese manufacturer will be debuting the Mi Max 3 phone in the coming month. It is one of the highly anticipated smartphones from the company as it is expected to arrive with a large-sized 18:9 aspect ratio display and a bigger battery. However, two of the major changes that could be seen on the Mi Max 3 is the inclusion of the new features like dual rear cameras and wireless charging. A couple of images of the TPU case of the Mi Max 3 has been spotted on the Chinese Alibaba website. The new images have revealed some of the key features of the Mi Max 3.

As it can be seen in the above image, the TPU case has been designed for the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 smartphone. It reveals that the rear panel of the phone will be housing a fingerprint scanner like the predecessor model. At the top-left corner of the case it the cutout for a vertical dual camera setup. It appears that the LED flash could be placed between the two camera sensors.

The topside of the phone seems to feature a 3.5mm audio jack and the other cutout out there could belong to the IR blaster. The bottom edge of the smartphone seems to feature stereo speakers. The USB-C port seems to be available on the bottom edge in between the two speakers.

The overall appearance of the rear panel of the Mi Max 3 is likely to resemble the Mi Max 2 phone. The leaked firmware files of the Mi Max 3 had revealed that it could be arriving with wireless charging feature. If the rumor is true, instead of the metallic rear panel, it may feature a glass rear in order to support wireless charging.

As far as specs are concerned, the Mi Max 3 is speculated to arrive with Mi 6’s dual rear cameras. There could be two chipset variants of the phone. Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is definitely one of the most interesting Xiaomi releases of last year as it is the biggest device released by the company. But even though this is one of the most comfortable phones for productivity, it still haven’t received Android Oreo. The handset has been launched with Android Nougat and actually, it still runs Nougat customized with MIUI 8.5. But now, thanks to the most famous custom ROM, it is possible to install Android 8.1 Oreo on the phablet, which is the latest version of the operating system available if we exclude Android P Developer Previews.

An XDA Senior Member identified by the nickname ashwin007 has made a LineageOS 15.1 ROM based on Android 8.1 Oreo for the Xiaomi Mi Max 2. The ROM has not been made by the official LineageOS team and it does not meet the requirements of the official LineageOS, so you will not find this ROM on the official LineageOS ROM list. But, according to the developer, it is a stable ROM and almost everything works fine. Given that it is not an official update, if you want to try this ROM on your Xiaomi Mi Max 2 you have to flash it manually.

In order to flash LineageOS 15.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo, you need to unlock the bootloader and flash the TWRP recovery mode. Then you need to flash the ROM and install the Google apps package called OpenGapps. To download the ROM, head to the link at the end of this article. At the moment, we still do not know when Xiaomi will decide to officially roll out Android Oreo on the Mi Max 2. Actually, the company is bringing MIUI 9.5 Global Stable update to 30 of its devices, but not all the handsets listed by the company will get an update based on Oreo.

Xiaomi had introduced the MIUI 9 proprietary Android skin in July last year. The company began the roll out of the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM from November. Xiaomi’s Global VP and Managing Director for India confirmed on Twitter earlier this week on the list of Xiaomi phones that are eligible to receive the MIUI 9 update. The eligible devise list reveals that even four-year old phones such as Mi 3 and Redmi 1S will be treated with the MIUI 9 update.

Some of the aforementioned smartphones have already received the MIUI 9. Newer handsets such as the Redmi Note 4, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Mi MIX 2, Mi Max 2 are receiving the Android Nougat flavored version of MIUI 9 update. However, some of the older phones such as Redmi Note 3 are receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow flavored MIUI 9 update which lacks some of the features like split-screen mode.

The MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM should automatically arrive as OTA update on the above listed phones. Alternatively, users can manually check for the arrival of the MIUI 9 update by navigating to Settings > About Phone > System Update. It is recommended for users to perform the data backup for their device before installing the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM.

In the previous month, Xiaomi had slashed the price of the Mi MIX 2 by 800 Yuan (~$127). However, many were unable to take advantage of the deal as it lasted only for a day. The Chinese manufacturer has confirmed that it will be offering the Mi MIX 2 with a price cut of 800 Yuan once again on March 14 and March 15.

The ceramic body edition of the MI MIX 2 will be available with a price tag of 3,899 Yuan (~$616) after the price cut 800 Yuan on its original pricing of 4,699 Yuan (~$743). The price cut has been announced ahead of the March 27 launch event of Mi MIX 2S. It is likely that the company may permanently slash the price of Mi MIX 2 around the launch of Mi MIX 2.

The Mi MIX 2 features a 5.99-inch FHD+ resolution support screen that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Snapdragon 835 chipset and 8 GB of RAM are present under the hood of the MI MIX 2. The Chinese manufacturer has already released Android 8.0 Oreo update for the handset. Xiaomi is reportedly working on the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 that will come out to replace the Mi Max 2 phablet from last year. Recent reports have revealed that the Mi Max 3 will be sporting a full screen design. This means that the dimensions of the Mi Max 3 would be similar to that of its predecessor model. However, it may sport a larger screen by reducing the upper and lower bezels. Today, two leaked images of the alleged Mi Max 3 have appeared to reveal its front and top view.

From the above image, it is difficult to guess whether it features reduced bezels. However, the device seems to be a bit elongated which hints that it may be packed with an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The placement of the selfie camera, earpiece and the sensor are similar to the Mi Max 2.

The IR blaster and 3.5mm audio jack are placed on the top edge of the Mi Max 2. However, the topside of the alleged Mi Max 3 only features an IR blaster. This indicates that the 3.5mm audio jack could be either placed on the bottom edge of the phablet or the company may have removed the feature from it. If the latter is true, the USB-C port could be used for connecting earphones.

Previous reports have claimed that the Mi Max 3 would be featuring a 6.99-inch display. It is speculated that the smartphone could be driven by either Snapdragon 630 or Snapdragon 660 chipset. Some sources have also claimed that the Mi Max 3 will be arriving with dual rear cameras. The Mi Max 3 is likely to house a mammoth battery of 5,500mAh battery and the phablet is expected to carry support for Quick Charge 3.0. It could be available in variants like 3 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 4 GB RAM + 129 GB storage. It is speculated that these models could be available with respective pricing of 1,499 Yuan (~$236) and 1,599 Yuan (~$252).

Xiaomi is running a discount on a number of its products. The discount begins today and runs till Friday, January 19. Most are phones and include the Mi MIX 2 flagship and the entry-level Redmi 5A.

The Mi MIX 2 is Xiaomi’s latest flagship phone. Sporting a 5.99” 18:9 FHD+ display and powered by the Snapdragon 835, the Mi MIX 2 can hold its own against a number of flagships in the market.

For the duration of the sales, Xiaomi has cut off ¥300 from all the models except the Starck Edition. The 6GB +64GB variant will now sell for ¥2999 (~$466) and the 6GB + 128GB version will sell for ¥3299 (~$513).

Next is the Mi Note 3, Xiaomi’s first and only Snapdragon 660-powered smartphone. The upper mid-ranger can be termed as a bigger Mi 6 with a less powerful processor and a much better selfie camera. For the period of the sales, the 6GB + 128GB version gets ¥300 off and will sell for ¥2299 (~$357); the 6GB + 64GB gets ¥200 off to sell for ¥2099 (~$326) ; and the 4GB + 64GB gets ¥100 off to sell for ¥1899 (~$295).

The entry level Redmi 5A also gets a discount. Originally priced at ¥599 (~$93), Xiaomi will offer you a ¥30 coupon at checkout that brings it to ¥569 (~$88). The bigger and better Redmi Note 5A on the other hand gets ¥100 off to sell for ¥799. (~$124)

Going back to the mid-range category, Xiaomi is also offering discounts on the big-screen Mi Max 2. Buyers get ¥100 and ¥200 in discounts for the 64GB and 128GB variants respectively. The new Redmi 5 Plus doesn’t get a discount but you get a free pair of Xiaomi piston earphones.

Xiaomi launched its MIUI 9 earlier this year in July. However, the company delayed the rollout of the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM by around three months. Recently, Xiaomi announced that the new MIUI version will start rolling out in India from November 2.

However, it appears that the update is now rolling out ahead of the company’s plan. Some users with Mi 6 and Mi Max 2 smartphone have already started receiving the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM update.

MIUI V9.0.1.0.NCAMEI firmware version is currently being rolled out to the Mi 6, while MIUI V9.0.1.0.NDDMIEI is the firmware version that is being sent to the Mi Max 2. The update is of around 568MB.

The MIUI 9 Global ROM has already passed the beta testing stage and the company had also started pushing MIUI 9 Stable ROM to select Mi users in China earlier this month. The company is expected to roll out the stable ROM update in batches, just the way it handled the release of the Developer ROM.

Earlier, MIUI Marketing Deputy Director, Huang Longzhon had said that the stable version is normally rolled out within two months of releasing developer version, but since MIUI 9 is a new system, it has taken more time to prepare stable version.

The MIUI 9 brings several new features to the table such as deep level system optimization, new icons, and new animations for launching and closing apps, simple home screen edition, among others. It also comes with features like split-screen, search for apps in the Dual apps mode and better blocklist rules.

Along with some new features, a lot of the existing ones have also been improved, including Silent/DND timer, floating notifications, button and gesture shortcuts, among others.

Apart from India, as of now, there is no information about the rollout of this MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM update to other regions where Mi users are located.

The Mi Max 2 comes in two variants. One has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and the other has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Their respective official prices are ¥1699 (~$255) and ¥1999 (~$300), but can get it for less on resellers’ sites.

The 64GB version is priced at ¥1588 (~$238) and the 128GB version is ¥1799 (~$270) on JD.com. The store also has enough stock, so if you are planning to get the Mi Max 2, now is the best time.

Xiaomi released a teaser last week hinting at a new product for the Indian market. We already deduced that it was the Mi Max 2 and we were right. Xiaomi took the curtains of the new phone today.

The Mi Max 2 brings a few upgrades over its predecessor, the Mi Max. The display is still 6.44-inches and the resolution is kept at 1080p. One of the key changes is replacing the Snapdragon 650 for the power efficient Snapdragon 625, an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz.

The Mi Max 2 has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. One of the SIM slots doubles as a miroSD card slot and can accept up to 256GB cards.

The camera on the Mi Max 2 is a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor. There is a 5MP camera up front for selfies and a rear mounted fingerprint scanner. The battery also got a bump from 4850mAh to 5300mAh and only added 0.1mm in thickness.

The Mi Max 2 comes with Android 7.1.1 out of the box and will be available in matte black with a fingerprint resistant coating. It will go on sale on July 20 on Xiaomi’s official website and at offline stores first.  Then on July 27 it will be available across Xiaomi’s online and offline partners stores. Reliance Jio users will get 100GB of 4G data plan upon purchase of the Mi Max 2.

Xiaomi India also announced that it will be celebrating its third year anniversary and marking it with a sales promo. The anniversary sale will hold on the 20th and 21st of July on the Mi online store and across Mi offline stores.

An official poster released today by Xiaomi announced that the Xiaomi Mi 5X will launch on July 26. It also mentioned that the new version of Xiaomi’s custom ROM, MIUI 9 will debut on the device.

Ahead of the official release, we have been getting leaks of MIUI 9, even from the official MIUI account. Last week there were images of the new split-screen feature, and today we got an exclusive preview of a new official theme.

The image shows the lock-screen with a new material design wallpaper, and also the homescreen. The major change in the homescreen is the dock bar. The icons have a flat design and don’t have texts beneath them, giving them a clean look.

Xiaomi says MIUI 9 will come with three new themes that you can choose from when you are setting up your phone after the update.

Two months ago, Xiaomi made its way into Russia with three new devices: the Mi MIX, the Mi Note 2, and the budget Redmi 4X. Today, it adds the flagship Mi 6 and the recently launched Mi Max 2 to the phones available in the Eurasian country.

Xiaomi Mi 6

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is a dual camera flagship powered by the Snapdragon 853. It has a 5.15-inch full HD display, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Xiaomi has settled for a dual rear camera configuration akin to that of the iPhone 7 Plus.

The main sensor is a 12MP 1.25μm wide-angle sensor with a f/1.8 aperture, 4-axis OIS and 6P lens and the second sensor is another 12MP 1.0μm telephoto lens with a f/2.6 aperture, PDAF and a focus range of 52mm which lets you take portrait mode images.

For the selfie camera, Xiaomi has put an 8MP camera that records 1080p videos at 30fps. The Mi 6 has a 3350mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0.

Those who plan to get it should remember that the Mi 6 doesn’t have an audio jack but works with USB Type-C headphones. The device is also splash resistant.

The Mi 6 will be available for purchase on the 6th of July at 11:00 AM Moscow time for 29,990 Rubles. You can head to the official Mi Russia site and register to get notified.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2

The Mi Max 2 is for those who enjoy the extra screen estate of a tablet but still want a phone. The 6.44-inch 1080p display should more than suffice for any video watching or media consumption you’re into.

There is a Snapdragon 625 paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. You shouldn’t worry about battery life as the combination of the 5300mAh non-removable battery and the power-efficient SD625 should get you through a whole day at most.

The Mi Max 2 also packs an impressive Sony IMX386 sensor on the rear and a 5MP front facing camera. There is 9V/2A fast charging to help refill the large battery as fast as possible.

The Mi Max 2 will sell for 19,9990 Rubles.

Mi Band 2

The official site also has the Mi Band 2 but there is no price at the moment. There is a chance it will also go on sale on July 6 alongside the phones.

UNBOXING

The phone ships with all the usual stuff, no extras included.

DESIGN and DISPLAY

Last year Xiaomi released the Mi Max and while it was definitely a niche product due to its large display, it became very popular since the phone offered a lot of value for the price.

Same as last year, the Mi Max 2 is definitely not for everyone since it is ridiculously huge due to it’s 6.44” 1080p display, which is really sharp and vibrant, and the sunlight legibility is decent. Some sources claim that the display is covered with the Gorilla Glass 4. I’m not 100% sure about that but I’m yet to scratch it.

The build quality is excellent as the phone is made entirely of metal, the antennas’ design looks better than on some older Xiaomi phones, the buttons do not rattle and in general, the Mi Max 2 looks and feels like a flagship phone.

We have a notification LED light, which is, however, not customizable like before.

The capacitive keys sport the same layout as usual and they are nicely backlit.

The fingerprint scanner is one of the best in class. It is fast, accurate and it allows you to unlock the phone straight from the standby mode.

HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

The Mi Max 2 may look like a downgrade from the original Mi Max in terms of the processing power since it uses a slightly less powerful Snapdragon 625 chip, which is coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. You can also opt in for a 128GB model if you need a lot of local storage.

I have to tell you that you don’t need to worry about phone’s gaming performance. The Mi Max 2 handles each game I played on the highest graphics setting very well, with just a few skipped frames. Also, I didn’t notice any overheating issues even after 30 mins of gaming.

BENCHMARKS

USER INTERFACE

My Xiaomi Mi Max 2 runs on the MIUI Global ROM 8.5 that is based on Android 7.1. As usual, we have quite a few features, tweaks and customization options Xiaomi phones have been famous for.

Just to name a few, I like changing the transition effects, choosing from a variety of themes or wallpapers, quickly launching the camera from the standby mode, adjusting a few display settings manually or using a built-in app lock feature.

Most importantly, the Mi Max 2 is really fast and fluid no matter what I do with it even after installing quite a few apps.

MULTIMEDIA and ENTERTAINMENT

Since the Mi Max 2 has a huge display, a lot of people will most likely use it for multimedia consumption or entertainment. Therefore, you need a good loudspeaker and the Mi Max 2 delivers in this department with its stereo speakers setup. One is on the bottom and another is embedded in the earpiece. The sound quality is one of the best you can find on any sub-$300 phone. The sound is rich, crisp and clear and the volume output is very good.

The sound quality via the headset jack is also great. No distortions and balanced sound.

CAMERAS

When it comes to optics, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has a 12MP camera that has f/2.0 aperture lens and dual tone dual-LED flash. The selfie camera uses a 5MP sensor. The stock Xiaomi camera app allows you to take pictures very fast. Also, there are a few shooting modes like a manual mode that lets you adjust a few image settings.

The daylight image quality is pretty good considering this is a $300 phone. The pictures are sharp, there is a good amount of detail and colors look nice. However, some of the shots may come out underexposed.

The low-light camera performance is not so great as images are really noisy and grainy.

The 4k video looks quite good. The footage is detailed and quite sharp. However, you may see some auto-focus issues, some video artifacts, and the auto-exposure can work more gracefully. Also, the video stabilization could be better. The 1080p video looks quite good too but naturally, there is less detail compared to the 4k footage. The slow-motion video is decent but there is quite a bit of noise and the auto-focus seems to be jumping too quickly.

The selfies look quite good and there should definitely be enough quality for social media needs.

The 1080p selfie video quality is decent. The sound recording quality is quite good but the sound volume is quite low for some reason.

When it comes to connectivity, the Mi Max 2 almost excellent. Wifi speed and range are great and the Bluetooth 4.2 works fine. Also, the navigation is very accurate thanks to the built-in GPS, Beidou and Glonass receivers. There is also a built-in FM radio. However, you have to know that the phone lacks the LTE band 20, and there is no NFC.

The Mi Max 2 has a hybrid dual-SIM card tray that can take either 2 SIMs or 1 SIM and the microSD card. The call quality and signal reception are great using either SIM card slot.

As for sensors, the Mi Max 2 has an accelerometer, ambient light, gravity, proximity and gyroscope sensors that work just fine. There is also an IR blaster that allows you to control devices like TVs.

BATTERY LIFE

The 5200mAh battery on the Mi Max 2 is just fantastic.

Snapdragon 625 is one of the most efficient chips out there and thus, you can use the phone for days. That translates to over 11 hours of screen-on time, depending on how you use the phone. In other words, you can use this phone for 4 or even 5 days, which is just an amazing result.

In case you need to recharge the battery, it takes just about 2.5 hours to do it with the supplied fast charger.

CONCLUSIONS

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is one of the best oversized budget phablets you can buy.

For the price of less than $300, you will get an all-metal device that just looks premium, a humungous 6.44” display, great all around performance, MIUI 8 with a ton of features, stereo speakers setup, and a killer battery life.

The camera performs quite good in daylight but it struggles in lower-lit situations and in the video mode. Also, the phone lacks NFC, LTE Band 20 and finally, this phone is definitely not for everyone due to its sheer size.

At the end of the day, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is still a fantastic option if you are looking for a super-sized phablet but as always, make sure to consider a few shortcomings before making a purchase.

Xiaomi has announced another round of pre-sales today for the Mi 6 and the newly announced Mi Max 2. The time provided for the items to ship shows that there is still an issue of supply at Xiaomi. The Mi 6 is said to ship in 2 to 4 weeks. Add that to delivery time and you probably won’t get your phone until the third week in July or later.

The Mi Max 2 on the other hand will ship in two weeks. Not as long as the Mi 6, but still a long wait. If you head to the official site now, both items are out of stock. Xiaomi has included an option to be reminded when its available.

It is also out of stock on Jingdong (JD.com) but those tied to network operators are available and sell for ¥2699 (~$397). Xiaomi needs to fix its supply issues or it will end up losing customers to other brands.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 currently stands as a 6.44-inch behemoth and has hit the shelves in China. The smartphone’s predecessor is known for its long battery life, outlasting flagship phones and small tablets, as well as its obvious overall footprint. We shouldn’t be surprised if we see better battery life with the new Max 2 with an increase in battery size at 5300 mAh (compared to 4850 mAh in the original Max) paired with Quick Charge 3.0.

Questions have arisen whether Xiaomi should increase the size of the Mi Max lineup to 7 inches. Lei Jun (Founder of Xiaomi) states that the 6.44 inch is the optimum level where one hand operation is still possible. Whilst a 7-inch smartphone, for many of expected users, would be too large to use with one hand.

Although Lei Jun is reserved about a 7-inch smartphone, he has stated before he was not opposed to the idea of using a larger screen on smaller smartphone forms. An example of this is Xiaomi’s Mi Mix, where Lei Jun said the Mix has the screen size similar to the Max, but in a much smaller build.

It is unclear whether Xiaomi has plans for a larger screen smartphone, however Lei Jun has not ruled out the possibility of future smartphones housing screens beyond the 6.5-inch boundary. In terms of the Mi Max line, the 6.44-inch screen size looks like it will be staying.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was unveiled on May 25 to replace the last year’s MI Max 2. Since its launch, the Xiaomi phablet has been only available in the home country of China. However, within weeks of its official announcing, the Mi Max 2 has landed in Malaysia with a pricing of RM 1,499 (~$350) with GST included for the 64 GB model.

A Malaysian retailer, DirectD has listed the 64 GB Xiaomi Mi Max 2 in gold color. The Mi Max 2 was also announced in 128 GB storage options which is not listed on the Malaysian retailer site.

The Xiaomi Mi Max comes with a 6.44-inch full HD display that produces a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and is powered by Snapdragon 625 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. It comes in two storage choices of 64 GB and 128 GB. The phablet comes preloaded with Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with MIUI 8.2 overlaid on it. It also includes a microSD card slot, a USB Type-C slot and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner.

For photography, Xiaomi has included a stellar 12-megpaixel Sony IMX386 sensor which features large pixels that measure 1.25 microns. It’s the same camera sensor available on Mi 6. The camera is capable of shooting high quality photos in low light conditions. It features an 85-degree wide angle 5-megapixel selfie camera. Here is a comparison camera shots taken from Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and the dual rear cameras of Mi 6.

The phablet is also equipped with stereo speakers. It is powered by 5,300mAh battery that is coupled with Quick Charge 3.0. The much awaited Mi Max 2 was finally released last week. The highlights of the phone are its massive 5300mAh battery and Sony IMX386 main camera. This is the same same sensor in the Mi 6.

As stated above, the Mi Max 2 uses a Sony IMX386 sensor with a 1.25µm sensor. However, it lacks some of the bells and whistles of the Mi 6, such as the 4-axis OIS. There is PDAF, HDR and a dual LED flash though.

Xiaomi has provided camera samples of the Mi Max 2 and we want you to be the judge as regards its performance. Can the Mi Max 2 hold its own against the Mi 6?

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was unveiled on May 25 in China. On May 23, Manu Kumar Jain, the Vice President and Managing Director of Xiaomi India released an interesting tweet which probably hints that the Mi Max 2 may launch in India on July 23.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 went on its first flash sale in India on January 23 and the company managed to sell over 250,000 units of the phablet.  The first flash sale of Redmi 4A started in India on March 23 and the Chinese company again managed to sell over 250,000 units of the budget phone. On May 23 began the first flash sale of Redmi 4. Again, the company could sell 250,000 units of the phone.

The above tweet indicates that the company may again do a flash sale in India on July 23 as Jain has asked an open-ended question on what device should go on sale on that date. He has not revealed which smartphone will go on flash sale in July. Speculations have it that Xiaomi may either start the flash sale of Mi 6 flagship or Mi Max 2 on July 23.

Xiaomi had released the Mi 5 in April 2016 in India. Hence, speculations are hinting that the Mi 6 may arrive soon. However, an Indian publication had reported in April that Xiaomi will not be releasing Mi 6 in India. The report claims that the Mi 5 did not receive good reception from the Indian consumers as most people prefer to purchase the Redmi Note or Redmi series smartphones that come with affordable pricing. Instead of Xiaomi Mi 6, the company will be releasing a high-end smartphone later this year.

The original Mi Max was launched at June end last year. Hence, there is a possibility that its successor, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 may go on sale on July 23. The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 features a 6.44-inch full HD display and it is powered by Snapdragon 625 chipset. Before the launch of the Mi Max 2, the rumor mill had predicted that the phablet would be launching in Snapdragon 626 and Snapdragon 660 variants. Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was finally announced earlier today and the phone is sure to provide one of the best battery life that we will see in a phablet. The overall conference went very well, including the performance from the Chinese girl band, SNH48.

However, there was one thing that surprised everyone during the live streaming. Suddenly, in between the streaming, Huawei logo cropped up on the screen and stayed there for a couple of minutes. Now, remember this is Xiaomi’s conference and Huawei is a direct competitor to the company. So, seeing Huawei’s logo during Xiaomi’s live streaming was not only surprising, but it was also bad for the company’s reputation. And naturally, after seeing the logo, some viewers started to joke that Huawei is probably one of the sponsors of the event.

But the actual conference faced no such issues and it went well. So, who was the culprit? Well, iQIYI, is the one to blame here. If you have never heard of this name, iQiyi is China’s largest online video site. They were streaming the conference live and there was some kind of equipment failure in between due to which Huawei’s logo came up on the screen for around 2 minutes. Note that the issue was resolved in a couple of minutes, but the damage was already done.

iQiyi did apologize for this technical snag. It looks like users on Weibo had started sending private messages to Huawei asking whether they were responsible for this. Of course, Huawei was quick to defend itself saying they didn’t have anything to do with their logo coming up on Mi Max 2 live video. Also, it added that Huawei wishes Xiaomi for the launch success.

Although this wasn’t a big issue since the conference went smoothly, online viewers did have something to laugh about in the process.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was announced at an official event in China a few minutes back. This is an important smartphone for the company as it’s only the second large screen phablet from the company in recent years and considering the popularity of the original Xiaomi Mi Max, the new generation Mi Max 2 has some pretty large shoes to fill.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Design

Design wise, the Mi Max 2 does not incorporate any significant changes than its predecessor. What’s changed at the back are the antenna band design on the top as well as the bottom. They are now tucked towards the top and bottom edges, thereby creating a seamless back design. The fingerprint sensor is still on the back. The design looks a bit curvier than before, but we can confirm this only after we get our hands on the phablet.

Coming to the front of the phone, everything is almost the same as before. However, Xiaomi adds that the black borders around the screen (which we all hate) are now thinner than the first generation model.

The company seems to have reduced the thickness of the black borders quite significantly, now measuring just 0.7mm, which is great!

As for the dual LED flash position, it’s now located on the left side of the camera sensor instead of the right. One more thing, there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack on top, so you don’t have to worry about getting Type-C headphones, at least not for this phone.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Specs

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 comes with the Snapdragon 625 chipset inside with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s a 4GB + 128GB model as well. Now, to be honest, it’s disappointing to see SD625 inside the phablet. We were expecting much a better chipset inside, something like the SD660.

The Mi Max 2 comes with the same 12MP IMX386 sensor as the Xiaomi Mi 6. The pixel size has been increased to 1.25um for better quality pictures along with a night mode enhancement feature. Other camera specs include PDAF, dual tone LED flash, and dynamic range adjustment.

Coming to the battery, Xiaomi has made the Mi Max 2 an even better battery monster. The new generation model now comes with a much larger 5300mAh battery inside that promises up to 18 hours of video playback. You can get up to 9 hours of continuous gaming or 21 hour continuous navigation or 57 hour continuous talktime or even 10 day continuous music playback with this huge battery on board. Further, charging it won’t be an issue since the phone supports QC 3.0 and charges up to 68% in an hour.

You get stereo speakers inside, an upgrade from the single speaker on the Mi Max.

Xiaomi has revealed that it has tweaked MIUI to improve user experience on the Xiaomi Mi Mi Max 2. The phone comes with a floating ball which can be used to open your most frequently used apps. Then there are other features such as one hand mode and others features which will help in the day to day use of the 6.44-inch display phablet.

No word on the Android version yet, but expect at least Android 7.1 with MIUI 8.2.

Xiaomi is all set to officially launch the Mi Max 2 in an event scheduled for tomorrow. Ahead of the launch, there is one last dash leak of the phablet which suggests that it would feature a USB Type-C port that would make it support reverse charging. The leaked image of what could pass for the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 connected to an iPhone with an OTG cable and the iPhone 7 was actually charging. Which suggests that the Mi Max 2 was reverse charging the iPhone.

Now, it would be an awesome feature if the Mi Max 2 joins the league of mobile devices with OTG functions meaning apart from getting a phablet-sized smartphone, buyers would also get a power bank which can come in handy someday. The good thing about USB-OTG is that the Mi Max 2 would be able to charge not just a second smartphone but other gadgets like camera and others.

While we cannot say if this is actually true, it aligns properly with an earlier rumour that the Mi Max 2 would pack a large 5,349mAh battery, higher than the large  4,850mAh battery on the Mi Max. A battery that size would be enough to power the device and charge other gadgets. But we’ll advise you take this with a pinch of salt because the entire charging cord is not visible so we’ll know if it’s the Mi Max 2 that is actually charging the iPhone.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is all set for an official launch on May 25. It specifications have already been leaked by the rumor mill and it has also appeared on GFXBench. The original Mi Max from May 2016 came with a massive 4,850mAh battery. Rumors have been claiming that the Mi Max 2 would be coming with a 5,000mAh battery. However, according to a Chinese leakster, Kumamoto, Xiaomi will be increasing the battery capacity by 500mAh on the Mi Max 2.

As it can be seen in the above Weibo post by Kumamoto, the Mi Max 2 will be coming with a 5,349mAh battery from Yan Wanda. He also claims that the phablet would be powered by Snapdragon 626 chipset. The mammoth battery and the energy chipset onboard will allow the Mi Max 2 to deliver stellar battery performance.

The original Mi Max came in Standard and High (or Prime) variants. The Standard model came with Snapdragon 650 chip, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB / 64 GB storage options. The Prime model came with Snapdragon 652 SoC, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The upcoming Mi Max 2 is also speculated to arrive in Standard and High models.

Xiaomi released its largest smartphone yet, the Mi Max on May 10 last year and it did come out with a bang due to its expansive display. But more than a year later, the Mi Max is yet to get a successor even as the original Mi Max isn’t listed on the Mi mall anymore. Thus, a successor to the Xiaomi Max dubbed Mi Max 2 has become the subject of a couple of leaks and rumours.

Before now we have seen a couple of leaks on the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 with its specs details said to include a 12MP Sony IMX378 sensor but with a larger aperture in order to get better camera effect. On the other hand, the front selfie shooter will have a 5MP  sensor. We had even seen a photo said to be of the Mi Max 2 but which we believe is fake. Now, a fresh rumor has emerged and interestingly, it tips the Mi Max 2 as officially launching on May 23 and that the publicity for the launch event would commence tomorrow. While we can’t say if this is true, Xiaomi has this year been releasing its products without long notice like the Redmi Note 4X. So don’t brush this aside just yet, it is possible a launch would take place on May 23.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was rumoured to come with the same 6.44-inch display with 1080p resolution.  The device is tipped to run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 8 and with an increase in the battery capacity to 5000mAh. An earlier rumour also tips the Mi Max 2 as packing a Snapdragon 660 chip backed by 6GB of RAM and 4GB RAM on the standard version. There are indications now that the Xiaomi Max 2 will feature a Snapdragon 626 processor for the 4GB RAM version while the SD 660 chip would be for the higher 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version. Also, the battery capacity may be increased from the 4850mAh on the Mi Max to a 5,000mAh capacity.

Xiaomi has been hinting that it would be selling its smartphones in the U.S. However, in an interview with Engadget, Wang Xiang, the Global VP of Xiaomi, confirmed that expanding its market in the U.S. is not the priority for the company.

Xiaomi has just launched its flagship phone, the Mi 6. In this year, it is speculated to launch several smartphones such as Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus, Mi Note 3, Mi Max 2, Redmi Pro 2 and Mi MIX 2. However, Xiaomi fans in the U.S. and Europe who are eagerly waiting to see the arrival of Xiaomi fans will have to wait longer as they won’t be able to purchase these phones in their countries this year.

It means the only way to avail Xiaomi phones is to order them from Chinese online retailer sites such as GearBest or Giztop that are selling them with slightly expensive pricing. Xiaomi does not want to sell its smartphones directly in the U.S. like other brands like OnePlus and Honor (Huawei’s sub-brand) are doing. It feels that selling phones directly in the U.S. will not help in building its relationship with the carriers in the U.S. and this could negatively impact the reputation of the company in the U.S.

The Mi Max holds the title for the biggest phone in Xiaomi’s smartphone lineup. Released back in May last year, the phablet is set to get a successor soon. Some even say as soon as Wednesday, 19th of April alongside the Mi 6.

Leaked specification details say the Mi Max 2 will retain the same 6.44-inches display size and FHD resolution. It will run Android 7.1.1, have a 5MP camera for selfies and get its battery bumped to 5000mAh. At the moment, the processor is said to be the Snapdragon 626, a power-efficient chip like the Snapdragon 625. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see another processor in the Mi Max 2. The Mi Max was released in two versions: one was powered by a Snapdragon 650 chip and the other by a Snapdragon 652. The same thing might happen this year too.

A new image was posted on Weibo by @Ubuntu team. The image is said to be of the Mi Max 2 and shows the device in a TPU case. There are a few minor changes in the design. The LED flash comes before the rear camera now and the entire back is just one large piece of metal. Since the rear is just q single plate, that means the antenna lines are visible now. Xiaomi has adopted the U-shaped antenna design like that of the iPhone 7 and it does look good.

The rest of the image shows the top and bottom of the Mi Max 2. There is a 3.5mm audio jack, a secondary mic, and an IR blaster at the top. The major change at the bottom is the USB Type-C port that replaces the micro USB port in the original. You also have fewer holes for the speaker grille and two additional screws flanking the USB port.
