Ahead of Valentine’s Day, Xiaomi India is running a sale at Mi Home retail stores across the country. Interestingly, apart from new devices, the company has also discounted some old discontinued products by a high margin. Although this move is obviously meant to clear the old stock, the deals are not bad either as these smartphones can still perform well and they even have good third-party software support.

Almost all Xiaomi products are on sale at Mi Home stores ahead of Valentine’s Day. Also, a similar sale is live on Mi.com as well. But here in this article, we have only mentioned the old smartphones that are worth buying for their discounted price in 2021.

With that being said, let us take a look at these deals.

You might be wondering why we are recommending these old handsets since software support has ended for them except the Redmi K20 series. Because these devices are still capable of performing day to day tasks and one need not spend more money.

Also, almost all of them are popular in the custom ROM community. Hence, if you are one of those niche customers, these deals can be more attractive for you when compared to a regular customer.

Xiaomi launched Mi Mix 2 in the second half of 2016 as the successor to the original Mi Mix from 2016. The smartphone debuted with MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. Now, after three years from its release, the handset has begun to receive its last major update in the form of MIUI 12.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has been rolling out MIUI 12 update to its devices since late April. However, the company is yet to finish the rollout. That said, Mi Mix 2 has now become the latest handset to get this update.

The MIUI 12 update for Mi Mix 2 is being rolled out to both China and Global variants of this smartphone. The build number for the former is V12.0.1.0.PDECNXM, whereas the latter variant is receiving V12.0.1.0.PDEMIXM.

That means the said MIUI 12 build is being only pushed to limited users in international markets. If these early adopters don’t face any major issues, the update will be made available for more users in the coming days.

Having said that, as we stated in the beginning, MIUI 12 is the last major update for Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The device may now only receive critical security patch if required down the line.

Usually, most of the news related to Xiaomi is about the company launching a new product. For a change, the company’s CEO has shared his list of three favorite smartphones instead of teasing a new product for launch.

Leu Jun, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi has listed the Mi MIX 2 smartphone as his most favorite. He adds that the phone has a ceramic body and is the first flagship smartphone in the world to have a unibody ceramic design.

One of the reasons behind this being his favorite is the process of getting it made. He says that each piece of unibody ceramic must be sintered at 1400-degree Celsius for seven days and involves some other processes as well.

The second smartphone in the list is the Xiaomi Mi 6 Bright Silver Discovery Edition. He goes on to explain that the phone has a vacuum-plated glass back shell and can be used as a mirror. The bright stainless steel frame gives the phone an excellent look and feel.

Lei Jun has mentioned Mi 10 Pro as the third favorite smartphone, which is the company’s first flagship smartphone to be available globally. He adds that with the Mi 10 Pro, Xiaomi hasn’t focused on reducing cost but has instead focused on providing the ultimate experience for those who are looking for a high-end smartphone.

Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix 2 in 2017 as its secondary flagship smartphone apart from Mi 6. The speciality of this handset is its 5.99-inch FHD+ IPS LCD panel with minimal bezels all around except for a relatively larger chin. It debuted in India for ₹35,999. Now, after almost 3 years, the phone will be available to purchase for a rock bottom price of ₹14,999 on Flipkart during Big Saving Days sale starting June 23.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 was a good phone of its time at ₹36K in India. But is it worth buying now? Let us answer that question in this post.

Hardware

The Mi Mix 2 is one of the well-built phones even today, especially at the price it will go on sale. The handset features a ceramic back and an aluminium frame. None of the phones sold in India under ₹20,000 has a metal frame, let alone ceramic finish.

It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. This combination is still powerful in today’s standards.

The screen of the phone is a gorgeous edge to edge 5.99-inch FHD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) IPS LCD panel with 403 ppi, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and DCI-P3 color gamut. But unfortunately, it is neither HDR compliant nor has a high refresh rate. However, it is still a good display compared to other devices in the segment.

It has all the essentials like USB Type-C, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G, VoLTE, dual SIM, fingerprint sensor, 3,400 mAh battery, and 18W Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging. But it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack and only has a single 12MP Sony IMX386 primary camera with OIS and a 5MP selfie camera.

As far as hardware is concerned, the Mi Mix 2 from 2017 is still a solid phone in 2020.

Software

Coming to the software, Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix 2 with MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. The handset was later updated to MIUI 10 and MIUI 11, which it currently runs.

The underlying Android was also updated to Oreo and Pie. But it will be not receiving Android 10, however, it is eligible for MIUI 12 update, which will be rolled out in the coming days.

In a nutshell, the device’s official software support will end soon. But if you can deal with custom ROMs, then there are lots of options to try and they are even based on Android 10.

Some of the notable ROMs include Havoc OS, PixelExperience, Paranoid Android, LineageOS 17.1, and more.

Conclusion

In our opinion, the Mi Mix 2 is still a good buy for those users who don’t care about latest Android as MIUI 12 is common on all Xiaomi/Redmi smartphones and has all the features one needs. But it is worth noting that there won’t be any official update thereafter except maybe some critical security patch if needed.

So if you can deal with old software or say custom ROMs, then this handset is still recommended as there’s not a single device in any price range as of now with such unique design and finish.

Last but not least, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is highly recommended for collectors as Mix series of phones played an important role in the development of today’s bezel-less smartphones.

Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix 2 bezel-less (at that time) smartphone in 2017. Earlier today, Lei Jun, the company’s co-founder and CEO recalled it as his favorite Xiaomi phone. He thinks this handset feels like jade because of its ceramic unibody.

Xiaomi’s Mi Mix series of smartphones are known for offering a full-screen experience. The last commercial phone in the series was Mi Mix 3, whose 5G version, unfortunately, did not sell well. As a result, it is yet to receive MIU 11 and Android 10 update. 

Recently, the Chinese smartphone maker registered a new Weibo account for the Mix series. Now, the CEO remembers an old Mi Mix device as his favorite Xiaomi phone. All of this somewhat indicate the arrival of the new Mix series smartphone. 

Xiaomi did announce a new device in the series recently called Mi Mix Alpha. But it is a concept smartphone and is yet to go on sale though it has a price tag attached to it.

Considering the statement made by Lei Jun, we can expect the next Mi Mix device, probably called Mi Mix 4 to come with ceramic unibody design like its predecessor from 2017.

Phones with ceramic back are not unique to Xiaomi. The Meizu 17 Pro launched today also has a ceramic body and so does the Huawei P40 Pro Plus. There were multiple devices in the past with this design like the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Essential Phone, and LG V35 Signature Edition to name a few.

MIUI 12 was officially unveiled earlier today along with Mi 10 Youth Editon mid-range 5G smartphone sporting a periscope camera. After the event, the company also announced the update schedule in a post on Mi Community China. Unfortunately, the post also mentions some bad news suggesting MIUI 12 could be the last update for five popular devices from the company.

Xiaomi stopped releasing MIUI Global Beta builds from last year, however, it continued to provide beta builds for MIUI China ROM. Whenever the company drops support for beta builds for a device, it is likely to not receive the next iteration of MIUI thereafter.

In the post where the company listed the eligible devices for MIUI 12, it also noted the end of beta builds for five devices listed below from June 20, 2020. 

• Xiaomi Mi 6
• Xiaomi Mi 6X
• Xiaomi Mi Note 3
• Xiaomi Mi Mix 2
• Redmi Note 5

MIUI 12 could be the last update for the above-listed devices. They may not receive MIUI 13 update whose ‘Feature Design Survey’ is already live on Mi Community China.

Once the development of MIUI China Beta ROMs for these devices will be ended, they will be receiving MIUI 12 Stable build as per the update schedule/timeline provided by the company. Additionally, they might receive one or two maintenance updates after that to fix bugs. And that could be the end of official software support for these handsets unless Xiaomi changes its mind.

It is worth noting that Mi 6 is yet to be decided by the company to get a stable update. Also, the Redmi Note 5 mentioned here is the Chinese variant, which is popular as Redmi Note 5 Pro in India.

Although these smartphones may not receive update from the company in the near future, they are expected to remain up to date for a few more years as almost all of them are still popular in the Android modding community.

Xiaomi is adding a new SOS feature to closed beta version of the MIUI 10 developer ROM. This feature allows users to contact a pre-defined number in case of emergency. The feature is currently available to five Xiaomi devices. In the near future, the feature will be also brought to other devices.

The SOS feature that has been added to developer ROM can be accessed by pressing the power button 5 times and then it will send the help information to the emergency contact number. As it can be seen in the image below, users can activate the feature by going to Settings > SOS > Emergency Help. As of this writing, the feature is available to devices such as Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi MIX 2, Mi 6, Mi 5 and Redmi Note 4X

By releasing the SOS feature through closed beta Xiaomi could be testing the feature on the first five devices in China. It will be soon adding the function to the developer ROM for all the Chinese models by the end of September.

In related news, Xiaomi is now busy with rollout process of stable edition of MIUI 10 to its various devices. Xiaomi is running a special sales promotion tomorrow 16th of August. The sales promo will be on its official online store Mi.com and will see phones, TVs, computers and lots more get up to ¥400 (~$58) off. Below are some of the products that will be on sale.

The 6GB + 64GB Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S which sells for ¥3299 (~$478) will be sold for ¥2899 (~$420) while the 6GB + 128GB version priced at ¥3599 (~$520) will sell for ¥3199 (~$463). Both phones are already available for purchase at the new price, so you can go right ahead to order.

The older Mi MIX 2 has also gotten a price slash. The special edition with a full ceramic body with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is available for ¥2799 (~$405). Its original launch price was ¥4699 (~$680). It is obvious Xiaomi is clearing its stock.

The Redmi Note 5 will also be discounted by up to ¥200 (~$29) depending on the variant you purchase. On May 31, Xiaomi had announced the all new MIUI 10 ROM. At the beginning of June, it had rolled out the Developer ROM closed beta in China for first batch of devices and the same devices had received public beta by the end of the month. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has released the developer ROM closed beta to the second batch of devices.

The first batch of devices that were treated with MIUI 10 Developer ROM included Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Mi 6, Mi MIX 2S, Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Redmi S2 and Redmi Note 5. Since the registrations for the Developer ROM closed beta ended yesterday in China, the company has made it available to the second batch of Xiaomi phones starting from today. After the closed beta testing comes to an end, the public beta is likely to arrive for the same second batch of devices by the end of this month.

The second batch of 17 Xiaomi phones that are now receiving the MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta are Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5S, Mi 5X, Mi 5C, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 5A, Note 5A Prime, Redmi Note 4X (Snapdragon variant), Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5, Redmi 5A and Redmi 4X.

The company has stated that the arrival of the public beta of Mi 5X will be delayed. The specific release time for the smartphone will be announced through its social media channels. By this, Xiaomi is bringing the latest MIUI 10 to a total of 27 smartphones.

The MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta can be installed in two ways. After releasing the list of top 10 high performance Android phones for June month, AnTuTu has now released the list of top 10 most favorite smartphones for the same month. The following list contains Android phones that were highly rated by users on the AnTuTu app between June 1 and June 30.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is leading the list with a positive rating of 95 percent. The handset was launched in early 2017. It features a regular 4K HDR display of 5.5 inches and is powered by Snapdragon 834. Other specs of the XZ Premium include SD835, 64 GB storage, 4 GB RAM, 19-megapixel rear camera and 3,230mAh battery.

The Meizu PRO 6 Plus that was launched at the end of 2016 follows XZ Premium with a positive rating of 94 percent. It includes 5.7-inch 2K display, Exynos 8890 SoC, 4 GB RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera with 4-axis OIS and 3,400mAh battery.

The OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 are tied on the third spot with a positive score of 93 percent. The OP6 is a 2018 flagship phone that features a 6.28-inch notched Optic AMOLED display, SD845 SoC, 6GB / 8GB RAM, 64 GB / 128 GB / 256 GB storage, 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera and 3,300mAh battery. The Mi MIX 2 has 5.99-inch 18:9 aspect ratio screen, Snapdragon 835, up to 8 GB RAM, up to 256 GB storage, 12-megapixel rear camera and 3,400mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are on the fourth position with a positive score of 92 percent. The fifth spot is occupied by Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and Redmi Note 4X phones that managed to salvage a positive rating of 90 percent.

The above list is mainly dominated by older phones and the only new phones to make it to the list are OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi 8. Surprisingly, the list does not include a single phone by Huawei. Recently spotted fan-made renders of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 has revealed that it will be arriving with a pop-up selfie camera. This technology resembles the front camera of the Vivo NEX that remains hidden inside the top bezel. When the selfie camera feature is accessed in the camera app, the frontal shooter rises to snap a photo. A leaked image showcasing the design of the alleged Mi MIX 3 has been spotted on Weibo. The image suggests that the handset is equipped with a pop-up front camera.

The original Mi MIX from 2016 was a concept phone with bezel-less design that came with a massive 6.4-inch IPS LCD display. It offers nearly 84 percent screen-to-body ratio. After the launch of Mi MIX, various smartphone manufacturers were inspired to launch phones with similar bezel-less design.

The Mi MIX 2 from last year came with a smaller 5.99-inch display with a screen-to-body ratio of 80.8 percent. The Mi MIX 2S that was unveiled earlier this year offers 82 percent screen-to-body ratio through its 5.99-inch display. Competitor brands like Oppo and Vivo have launched flagship smartphones with higher screen-to-body ratio. The Vivo NEX and OPPO Find X respectively offer 86 percent and 87 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Since the original Mi MIX smartphone popularized the bezel-less design, Xiaomi may want to offer higher screen-to-body ratio on the upcoming Mi MIX 3 compared to the predecessor models. The Mi MIX and Mi MIX 2 have featured slimmer bezels. However, the bottom bezels on these phones have been slightly as they accommodate the front-facing camera. One way through which Xiaomi can offer a higher screen space on Mi MIX 3 is by cutting down on the space taken by the bottom bezel. To achieve it, the handset may require a pop-up camera like the Vivo NEX. The above image that seems to be teasing the design of the alleged Mi MIX 3 clearly shows that it has a pop-up front camera.

In 2015, Xiaomi had filed a patent for a smartphone design with a pop-up from camera. The camera unit also included an LED flash unit. Hence, there is a possibility that the Mi MIX 3’s pop-up camera may also arrive with an LED flash.

The poster also reveals that the smartphone will be debuting in September. The Chinese manufacturer had launched the Mi MIX 2 in September which suggests that the arrival of the Mi MIX 3 could be around two months away.

The Mi MIX 3 is expected to debut in September this year as the Mi MIX 2 had arrived in the same month last year. Early rumors have suggested that the Mi MIX 3 may offer higher screen-to-body ratio than the predecessor and Mi MIX 2S by sporting slimmer bezels. Fresh renders of the alleged handset that have surfaced today reveals its expected design. The new renders reveal that the Mi MIX 3 may sport a pop-up front camera like the Vivo NEX.

In 2015, Xiaomi had filed for a patent for the front-facing camera. The patent revealed that Xiaomi may introduce a pop-up selfie camera technology that may rise and retract from the top edge of the phone when required. Xiaomi’s pop-up selfie camera technology also includes a LED-flash unit. The alleged Mi MIX 3 renders that have surfaced today includes the LED flash enabled pop-up camera.

The fresh renders also reveal that the screen of the phone is surrounded by ultra-thin bezels. Even the bottom bezel seems to be as thin as other bezels. The Mi MIX 2 has a selfie camera placed in the bottom bezel. If Xiaomi wants to offer more screen space on the Mi MIX 3, it may reduce the bottom bezel by removing the selfie camera. Hence, it may adopt the pop-up selfie camera technology that it filed in 2015.

The renders also reveal that the fingerprint scanner is not present on the rear panel that houses a vertical dual camera setup. There is a possibility that Xiaomi may also introduce its under-display fingerprint scanner technology on the Mi MIX 3.

There is no information available on the specifications of the upcoming Mi MIX 3. However, since the handset is pegged to arrive with flagship specifications, it could feature the Snapdragon 845 SoC.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, the smartphone which had received a price cut of Rs. 3,000 earlier this year in January. Now, the company has announced yet another permanent price cut for the smartphone, which brings the phone’s effective pricing to Rs. 29,999 (approximately $441).

The new pricing after the price drop is applicable on Xiaomi‘s online store Mi.com, Mi Home, as well as its retail partners, including online marketplace Flipkart. The Mi MIX 2 was first launched in India back in October last year at a price of Rs. 35,999 (approx. $530).

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 features a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ display with screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and aspect ratio of 18:9. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 835 processor, with Adreno 540 GPU and 8GB RAM.

The phone packs 128GB internal storage. Coming to the optics part, the phone comes with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX386 sensor, 1.25μm pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, 4-axis OIS, and 4K video recording. On the front side, there’s a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with facial recognition and 1080p video recording.

Xiaomi had launched the Mi 6 and Mi MIX 2 flagship phones in China last year. However, among the two phones, India only received the Mi MIX 2. This year, Xiaomi has already launched the Mi MIX 2S smartphone in China. Fresh information revealed by none other than Xiaomi co-founder and CEO Lei Jun suggests that the country will not be receiving the Mi MIX 2S flagship phone. He has stated that Mi A2 is one of the forthcoming phones for India.

While speaking to reporters at the newly built headquarters at Bangalore, Jun said that “I think the Mi Mix 2 might not be the best fit for some of the target audiences in India. It uses four-sided curved ceramic body, and 18K gold coating. A lot of these things might not necessarily be suitable for the Indian market. Actually, it’s a piece of art. The Indian market will still take some time to accept this product. So with regards to whether we should work on the Mix or not, I and Manu (Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi’s Global VP and Indian Managing Director) shared different opinions. I always insist that we should not just blindly take all products to India. That might not be appropriate.”

Through Jun’s word it can be understood that the Mi MIX 2 was not received well by the Indian audience. It includes some features like the wireless charging which is not something Indian buyers will purchasing a high-end phone.

In the past too, the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship had received poor reception in India because of which the company had reportedly decided to skip the launch of Mi 6 in the country. The company has been doing very well in India in the past two years, but it has failed to attract buyer to purchase its premium phones. Xiaomi is currently leading the Indian market mainly because of its highly popular mid-range phones.

According to Jun, “It’s mainly due to the fact that we’ve been operating in India for a relatively short period of time. We need to do things step by step. We already have five successful lines. Our next logical focus would be between 15,000 and 20,000. Then 20,000 and 30,000. Then 30,000 and above. We’ll introduce them step by step. We believe in the next two years you’ll find us present in these three price bands.”

Jun added that, “Our team has limited bandwidth, so right now there are no plans to bring the Mi Mix 2S to India.” He also confirmed that India will be receiving an Android One phone. This could be the rumored Mi A2 phone that is pegged to replace the Mi A1, Xiaomi’s first Android One phone that was launched in September last year. As far as premium phone for the country is concerned, Xiaomi CEO believes that a flagship smartphone designed for Indian users will be available in 2019 by the same period.

Xiaomi will be announcing the Mi MIX 2S flagship smartphone through a launch event tomorrow at 2 PM in Shanghai, China. It is a known fact that it will be the first flagship phone from Xiaomi for this year and it is also the first smartphone from China to feature the Snapdragon 845 chipset. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has revealed some information on the key specs of the highest configuration model of the Mi MIX 2S today. Moreover, he has also hinted that it will be arriving with an expensive price tag.

According to Jun, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset is very good, but it has one major drawback that’s not related any of its features or performance. He claims that the cost of the Snapdragon 845 along with 17 percent VAT (standard VAT value exceeds 500 Yuan (~$80). A report had surfaced in the recent past that revealed that the pricing each of the components present inside the Galaxy S9. It stated that the SD845 chipset that powers it is priced at $68. So, adding a VAT of 17 percent takes the cost of the chipset to up to $80.

He added that the pricing of the SD845 is about three times more than the Snapdragon 660 that is used for powering upper mid-range phones. Currently, the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage is selling with a price tag of 2,099 Yuan ($332). Adding the cost of SD845 to it takes the price to $2,599 Yuan (~$411). The Mi MIX 2S is expected to arrive with full screen design, dual rear cameras and UFS 2.1 storage. These specs could increase the price of the Mi MIX 2S to 3,000 Yuan ($490) for the lowest configuration variant featuring 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

At present, 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is selling for 3,099 Yuan (~$490). Hence, it is speculated that the base model of the Mi MIX 2S will be selling at a slightly higher price tag of 3,299 Yuan (~$522).

Jun has also revealed that highest configuration variant of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will be packed with SD845 chipset, 8 GB of RAM and a native storage of 256 GB. As far as the design of the phone is concerned, it will be arriving with a four-sided curved ceramic body. It has been revealed that one of the major highlights of the Mi MIX 2S will be its AI driven dual rear cameras that includes support for scene detection, Full HD quality slow motion video shooting and more. It is also expected to arrive as the first Xiaomi phone that will be arriving with support for wireless charging.

The ceramic body edition of the MI MIX 2 will be available with a price tag of 3,899 Yuan (~$616) after the price cut 800 Yuan on its original pricing of 4,699 Yuan (~$743). The price cut has been announced ahead of the March 27 launch event of Mi MIX 2S. It is likely that the company may permanently slash the price of Mi MIX 2 around the launch of Mi MIX 2.

The Mi MIX 2 features a 5.99-inch FHD+ resolution support screen that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Snapdragon 835 chipset and 8 GB of RAM are present under the hood of the MI MIX 2. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is heavily pegged to get unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 later this month. A leaked specs sheet of the upcoming Mi MIX 2S to reveal information on its design and key specs.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S Design

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2’s full screen design was advertised by the company as Full Screen 2.0. The leaked specs sheet indicates that the Mi MIX 2S would be coming with Full Screen 3.0 design. It could mean that it will offer a higher screen-to-body ratio than the Mi MIX 2. The outline image of Mi MIX 2S suggests that it will be sporting slimmer bezels than the predecessor phone.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 has the front camera located at the bottom-right corner. The Full Screen 3.0 design of the Mi MIX 2S repositions its selfie camera to the top-right corner. The upper bezel houses a thin-shaped earpiece. The exact size of the screen is not mentioned, but the specs sheet reveals that it will be featuring an under-display fingerprint scanner.

As far as the rear design of the phone is concerned, it will be coming with a four-sided curved ceramic unibody. The front design of the phone appears similar to one of the renders of Mi MIX 2S (show below) that have surfaced recently.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S Specifications

The specs sheet claims that Mi MIX 2S will be the world’s first Snapdragon 845 mobile platform driven smartphone. The SoC is expected to be coupled with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. It may arrive with 25GB GB high-speed UFS internal storage. Like the Mi MIX 2, the Mi MIX 2s is pegged to carry support for global 4G LTE bands. The specs sheet also mentions that it features 12-megapixel dual cameras with optical zoom.

The authenticity of the specs sheet is debatable since some of the information does not match with the leaked specs of the Mi MIX 2S that have been spotted in the past few weeks. None of the Mi MIX 2S rumors that have surfaced so far have claimed that it will be coming with dual rear cameras and in-screen fingerprint sensor. Some of the leaked photos of the Mi MIX 2S that had appeared few months ago have revealed that it would be arriving with an iPhone X like notch. As it can be seen in the image that accompanies the specs sheet, the Mi MIX 2S does not feature a notch.

A few days ago, Xiaomi announced the Android Oreo beta program for the Mi MIX 2. Although interested participants have until December 24 to sign up for the program, it appears some folks are already running the beta version.

A screenshot showing a Mi MIX 2 running Android 8.0 Oreo surfaced online today, revealing that the beta update comes with MIUI 9 version 7.12.18. The security patch level is also that of November. Visually, it is said that it doesn’t look different from Android Nougat.

Xiaomi’s second flagship, the Mi 6 has already received a beta version of Android Oreo and while there are no visual changes too, it is reported that the multi-tasking menu has received a slight modification.

The features Android Oreo bring are mainly improvements which help increase battery life and speed by limiting background activity. Android Oreo also comes with features like picture-in-picture mode, Autofill, and a bunch of new emojis.

Xiaomi’s second flagship phone of the year – the Mi MIX 2 has begun receiving its MIUI 9 update. This is the global stable version with version number V9.1.1.0.NDEMIEI.

The OTA is said to be 1.4GB large but if you can’t wait, you can download the full ROM from here. It is 1.6GB though. All you have to do is copy the file when you are done downloading into the ‘downloaded_rom’ folder of your phone’s internal storage. Open the updater app, tap the icon at the top right corner and select “choose update package”. Select the file from the folder and you should be fine from there.

MIUI 9 brings a number of new features to Xiaomi phones. There is now split-screen multi-tasking support, new icons and animations, and a redesigned notification shade. However, the biggest changes are not visual. The overall user experience is now faster thanks to a number of optimizations such as dynamic resource allocation, automatic cache cleaning, and real-time defragmentation to name a few.

Last week, Xiaomi released a teaser hinting at its entry into Spain. Today, the Chinese manufacturer held an event in Madrid unveiling an online store, lots of products and partnerships with local retailers.

The Mi A1 brings all the features of the Xiaomi Mi 5X but swaps out the MIUI ROM for Pure Android. And because it is an Android One phone, it will get updated to Android Oreo before other Xiaomi phones. The Oreo update is said to arrive before the end of 2017. The Mi A1 will sell for €229 and will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Spain will also get the Mi MIX 2 flagship phone. The 18:9 display-toting Mi MIX 2 will sell for €500 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB RAM variant. Other phones that will also be available in Spain include the Mi 6, Mi Max 2, Redmi 4A, Redmi 4X, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 5A, and Redmi Note 5A Prine

Xiaomi also announced that some of its Mi ecosystem products will be sold in Spain. The Mi Electric Scooter will sell for €349.99 but for a limited time it will go for €299.99. The Android-powered Mi Box is priced at €75 and the Yi 4K action camera has a €135 price tag. The Mi Band 2 will also be available for purchase in Spain.

The official Mi.com online store and retail partners like Amazon Spain and AliExpress will begin sales tomorrow, November 8 at 1 PM local time. Authorized Mi Stores at Xanadu and La Vaguada will begin sales on 11th of November, while Phone House, Media Markt, and Garrefour will begin sales on the 22nd of November.

Xiaomi opened a new Mi Home store in Shenzhen today. While the event was a chance for the CEO to boast about the company’s sales figures – 70 million mobile phones and ¥100 billion in revenue; it was also an opportunity to officially announce the sale of the full ceramic version of the Mi MIX 2.

When the Mi MIX 2 was announced, Xiaomi said it will be available in two variants – a ceramic version with an aluminium alloy frame and a fully ceramic version. The ceramic version comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage unlike the other variants which come with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The fingerprint scanner and the rear camera also have an 18K gold ring around it.

The body of the fully ceramic version goes through a number of tests to see that it meets the desired standard. First, it is put through a temperature test of up to 1400°C and then a strength test of up to 240 tons.

The full-ceramic version will sell for ¥4699 at Mi Home stores and is also available on the official Mi website.

Xiaomi‘s mobile phone product marketing director has inadvertently confirmed the Mi Mix 2 will go on sale very soon. While he didn’t specify the exact date the new variant would be available to buy, there is a strong likelihood that it may launch this month.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 White Ceramic version comes with 8GB of RAM. Not only does the new variant come with such large RAM size, it also adopts a new ceramic white colour. The Ceramic White edition have appeared severally online and it sure looks beautiful. we have seen the device a couple of weeks back on Weibo, shared by Xiaomi’s Cloud platform head. The new version would be available not just in Ceramic White but the black Ceramic version will also get an 8GB RAM version.

The Ceramic white edition is said to have been subjected to a temperature as high as 1,400 degrees centigrade within a 7 days period during its manufacture. The process is a complicated one but the product is a beautiful finishing. Already, Xiaomi has released the price tag the 8GB RAM version would sell and it is just about 700 Yuan higher than the 8GB RAM version. The 8GB RAM version will be priced at about 4699 Yuan (around $700).

The $9 discount on Mi Band 2 will allow users to purchase it for $20.99.  The Chinese firm will be giving away 5,400 units of Mi Band 2 at discounted price.

The  Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is expected to be launched in India on October 10 and ahead of that launch, Xiaomi has sent out press invitation and also has been releasing some teasers for the event. The Mi Mix 2 will be the second flagship model since the Mi 5 which will be hitting India. India missed out on the Mi 6 and so the launch is an important one for the tech giant as they’d be testing to see if their flagship models would fare as good as its mid-range and budget models that are doing well in India. The latest teaser was shared by Xiaomi’s international product director, Togo Donovan Sung.

The teaser is more of a brain teaser where you’ll have to spot the Mi Mix 2’s design on four different photos. Perhaps, you can try your wits to see how fast you can pick out the Mi Mix 2. Now, here is a guide, don’t go looking for the real photo of the Mix 2 else you’ll search until you get tired of searching. The brain teaser is meant to tease the Mi Mix 2 full-screen design which is embedded in the photos, fused with some of the objects captured in the photos. For instance, in one of the photo, it is fused onto the roof of a car and in another, the design is incorporated onto the wall tiles.

Xiaomi has released a poster which teases the launch of what is definitely the Mi Mix 2 in India on October 10. The poster doesn’t specifically state the venue for the launch but states it would hold in New Delhi and it also contains a render of the Mix 2 and the October 10 date. In case you are still at a loss how this concerns India, the invite was sent out to the media in India.

This is coming as a bit of a surprise, considering that this would be the first flagship Xiaomi would be launching in India for a while. The last flagship model to hit the world’s third-largest smartphone market was the Mi 5. Xiaomi specifically hinted that it won’t be launching the Mi 6 in India after the phone was launched earlier this year.

When Xiaomi announced the Mi MIX last year, it generated a lot of buzz and spawned several imitations. For its successor, Xiaomi took a different route with respect to the design but still kept certain features. While some are happy about the design of the Mi MIX 2, others are not.

The Mi MIX 2 is already available for purchase and some folks already received their units. So it is not a surprise that a teardown treatment has showed up online just in case one might need to replace a part or just for the sake of seeing what the internals are like.

The Mi MIX comes in two variants – one with a ceramic back but a metal frame and a full ceramic version. The one taken apart here is the former. The teardown process is fairly easy but if you are not sure about doing a good job, its best you take it to a professional.

The tools you will need include a Philips screwdriver, tweezers, a prying tool, and a suction cup. The suction cup will be used to separate the ceramic back from the rest of the phone.

First, power off the device and proceed to use the cup to remove the back. You have to be careful not to completely pull it apart as the cable from the fingerprint scanner is attached to the rest of the phone. Use the prying tool to gently complete the separation.

Use the screwdriver to remove the screws (ten screws in total) to gain access to the other components. When you remove the top plate, you should be able to disconnect the cable from the fingerprint scanner. The rest is easy from there. Use tweezers where necessary to remove unscrewed components.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 has a 5.99-inch 18:9 display. It is powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC and comes in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants with 64/128/256GB of storage. It has a single 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera. It’s battery capacity is 3400mAh and unlike the first one doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack.

One of the biggest launches for Xiaomi this year was none other than the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The phone undercuts rivals like the Galaxy S8 and the LG V30 by a significant margin, offering a similar full-screen design at a much cheaper price tag. The phone is a beast on paper, powered by the same Snapdragon 835 chip that’s found inside most top-end flagships in the market this year along with 6GB of RAM. While Xiaomi has consistently managed to give us the best specs at the most competitive price tag, one area where the company is still lagging behind mainstream phone makers like Samsung, Apple, and Huawei is in the camera department.

After our initial hands-on with the phone, we were excited to check out the camera at the back of the phone, a 12MP  1.25 µm sensor with PDAF and OIS. This is quite a decent setup, featuring a slightly tweaked primary sensor of the Mi 6 but is it good enough to take on the big players?

Well, not exactly. The 12MP at the back of the Mi Mix 2 is good for most occasions. But often you are left wanting for more details in the pictures. Don’t get me wrong, the Mi Mix 2 has a pretty good camera, but now that it’s a mainstream flagship that’s more like a cheaper replacement to devices like the V30 and the S8, I personally feel the company could have done better.

But as an independent smartphone, the camera samples reveal that the phone manages to do well, with good levels of detail and punchy colors. Even autofocus is pretty quick and impressive. So, you will be able to take great photos, even better than the Mi 6. What’s disappointing though is the lack of the secondary camera for background blur ‘bokeh’ photos. Given that almost everyone has jumped onto the dual camera bandwagon, it was a surprise to see Xiaomi stick with a single camera module on its top-end flagship.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is one of the cheapest full screen bezel-less smartphones in the market today, starting at an affordable price tag of just $506. Naturally, the phone turned out to be a hot pick among premium smartphone buyers, raking in more than 1 million registrations for its first sale.

Xiaomi CEO had promised that the company has enough stock to satisfy the demand from its fans in China, however, like tradition, the quantity of stock offered in the first Mi Mix 2 sale held today wasn’t enough. According to an official statement, the Mi Mix 2 sold out in just 58 seconds.

It’s actually not surprising to see the phone sell out so quickly in the first sale. The next sale is on September 19, which is just a few days away. So, let’s wait and watch whether the phone manages to last longer in the second sale.

Xiaomi took the wraps off the Mi Mix 2 in China yesterday in China with the device coming with a more refined and smaller design than the Mi Mix. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will likely command a whole lot of attention whenever it goes on sale outside China but for now, it will go on sale in China on September 15. There are indications that India may be the first port of call where the flagship device will be launched outside China. This was confirmed by the company’s global SVP Xiang Wang.

Xiaomi’s senior VP Global, Xiang Wang disclosed in an interview that the Mi Mix 2 will arrive in India “very soon.” This was confirmed by the company’s global SVP Xiang Wang. The Xiaomi exec failed to give details on the time frame when the Mix 2 will hit India.But since India is about entering the Diwali season where phone sales usually sky rocket, the Mi Mix 2 may just be launched anytime soon. Reports point to a launch sometime next month in time for the festive season.

Xiaomi Mi Mix was one hell of a smartphone when it was launched back in 2016. The phone clearly set the benchmark for bezel-less flagships that we are seeing this year. But the Xiaomi Mi Mix was more of a concept smartphone than a daily driver. The phone was unusually large, even with its bezel-less design, which made it hard to operate on a day to day basis. This kept many smartphone enthusiasts away from the device.

This is no longer the case with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 (full specs here). The company has finally evolved the Mix lineup in to a full fledged smartphone series that will attract the attention of fans all around the world. The phone is smaller, faster, and better suited for your every day needs.

Ditching the large 6.4-inch display, the phone now features a smaller 5.99-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. Once again, this aspect ratio is in trend with what we see on flagships like Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG V30, unlike Mix’s 17:9 ratio. This ensures that the phone is narrower, making it easier to hold even with one hand. Moreover, this makes the overall form factor close to its near competitors like the LG V30.

The smaller form factor definitely helps in the overall handling of the phone. Plus, its lighter as well.

The phone features the usual volume buttons and power button on the right and the SIM card slot on the left. Like the Xiaomi Mi 6, there’s no headphone jack on the device. The USB Type-C port, microphone, and speakers are located at the bottom. Coming to the back, there’s a 12MP sensor with dual tone flash. The fingerprint sensor is located just below this.

Note that there are two versions of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 — one with a ceramic body and stainless steel frame and another version (white edition) with a ceramic unibody design. While the black version looks beautiful, you can already see that the phone is going to be a huge fingerprint magnet. So, you’ll have to clean the back on a regular basis to keep it beautiful.

Overall, the phone feels like a gentle but necessary upgrade to the Mi Mix 2. But with similar options from big players like Samsung and LG existing in the market, we’ll have to see how fans take this new upgrade.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is now official. After weeks of anticipation, Xiaomi has taken the wraps off its second generation MIX smartphone.

However, the new phone is greatly different from its predecessor in several ways. From the design, to the specs and even down to the price this is a new device.

Mi MIX 2 Design

Unlike the first-gen Mi MIX which is tall and wide, the MIX 2 is shorter and narrower. The largest variant in terms of dimensions is 151.8 mm long and 75.5 mm wide. Compare that to the 2016 Mi MIX which is 158.8 mm long and 81.9 mm wide and you should get the picture.

Xiaomi has maintained the material of choice from the first generation MIX. The ceramic back now has a four-sided curve to allow for a better grip. There have also been some improvements with respect to the audio. The images below should explain better.

Mi MIX 2 Specs

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 has a 5.99-inch FHD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080. The 18:9 aspect ratio display, unsurprisingly is from LG. This type of display has become so popular this year and gives the Mi MIX 2 its narrow form over its predecessor as well as a higher screen-to-body ratio of 90%.

Xiaomi has released the phone in four different memory variants all powered by the Snapdragon 835 mobile platform with an Adreno 540 GPU. They are:

1. 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM
2. 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM
3. 6GB RAM + 256GB ROM
4. 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM (Special Edition)

The Mi MIX 2 doesn’t join the dual camera bandwagon. It has a single sensor at the back and it is the 12MP Sony IMX386. This is the primary sensor in the Mi 6. It has a 1.25μm pixel size, a f/2.0 aperture and 4-axis optical image stabilization. On the right of the lens is a dual LED flash and below it is a fingerprint scanner.

The front camera is a 5MP sensor that supports face recognition and also has autofocus.

The fact that the Mi MIX 2 comes with a smaller display has resulted in a smaller battery. Instead of a 4400mAh battery, it packs a 3400mAh one, just a tad more than that of the Mi 6. The phone supports Quick Charge 3.0 though.

For connectivity, the phone has Bluetooth 5.0 but ditches the 3.5 mm audio jack. It has dual WiFi band support and has support for 43 bands which includes 22 LTE bands. The Mi MIX 2 also comes with MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. We hope an update to Android 8.0 Oreo isn’t far off.

Mi MIX 2 Pricing and Availability

The Mi MIX 2 will sell for ¥3299 (∼$506) for the 6GB RAM + 64GB model; ¥3599 (∼$552) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB version; and ¥3999 (∼$614) for the 6GB + 256GB model.

The Mi MIX 2 comes in black but Xiaomi also announced a special edition with a full ceramic body that is available in white and black  i.e. no metal frame like the others. It has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and costs ¥4699 (∼$721).

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will go on sale later this month while the special edition variant will be available in October.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 and the Mi Note 3 smartphones are going to be unveiled later today. The rumor mill has revealed plenty of details on both smartphones in the recent weeks. Now a fresh image of what appears to be the Mi MIX 2 has surfaced on Chines microblogging site, Weibo. The new image reveals the full-frontal view of the alleged phone.

Like the previously seen leaked images and renders of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, the new image shows it will be boasting a larger screen space than its predecessor as the bottom bezel has also become slimmer.

At the right corner of the bottom bezel is the selfie snapper. The right edge of the phone has the volume controllers and Power button. There are no buttons on the left side of the phone. The top and bottom sides of the smartphone is not visible in the image. Hence, it is difficult to determine whether the Chinese manufacturer has decided to axe the 3.5mm audio jack. The bottom side is likely to feature a USB-C port.

The original Xiaomi Mi MIX has a 6.4-inch screen, but recent reports have revealed that the successor phone may house a smaller display of 6.2 inches. The Snapdragon 835 chipset will be present under is hood.

An image of the box package of the Mi MIX 2 has revealed that the smartphone would be available with 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The handset is also expected to be available in 128 GB storage model. Speculations have it that it would be featuring a 4,500mAh battery. Also, it will be arriving preinstalled with the latest MIUI 9.

As Xiaomi had announced the Mi MIX concept phone and Mi Note 2 at the same launch last year, this time too it is expected to unveil the Mi MIX 2 and Mi Note 3 together. Last year’s Mi Note 2 came with flagship specs. Leaked information has revealed that the Mi Note 3 could be an upper mid-range phone as it will be driven by Snapdragon 660 SoC.  The chipset of the Mi Note 3 is expected to be coupled with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

Other sources have revealed that the Chinese manufacturer would be also unveiling a new laptop that is reportedly called Mi Notebook Pro. Several details on its specifications have also surfaced.

Hugo Barra may have left Xiaomi early this year for Facebook’s Oculus, that doesn’t mean he isn’t on good terms with his former employers. After months since his last Weibo post, today He posted images of his own unit of the Mi MIX 2 sent to him by Lei Jun.

The images posted sadly do not reveal the phone itself but confirm some specification details. The retail box of the Mi MIX 2 is the same usual recycled cardboard material as that of the Mi MIX. The only difference is that it is now in landscape form and not portrait.

There is the word MIX written on the box in gold. A second image shows the top of the box off and inside is another layer of cardboard with an engraved note written and signed by Xiaomi’s co-founder, Lei Jun. These images correspond to an earlier leak of the retail box we saw last week.

Hugo Barra also shares an image of the rear of the box where some of the specs are listed. The unit sent to him has 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. See that Chinese text at the top beside the phone’s name? It translates to ceramic edition. Turns out Xiaomi is still going for the same material as the first gen and not metal as previously reported.

Another detail we can make out is the date of production which is August 2017. While this may not mean much to some people, it gives us a hint that mass production began early. So there should be enough units when it goes on sale.

The Mi MIX 2 is expected to launch with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a screen-to-body ratio of 93%. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor, have a 128GB version and a 4500mAh battery.
