Earlier this week, Xiaomi announced that it would be lowering the price of the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 in India. The hearables are now priced at 3,999 INR (roughly 53 US Dollars), down from 4,499 INR (roughly 60 US Dollars).

The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 was launched back in May alongside the company’s flagship Mi 10 and Mi Box 4K. It was designed to be “artfully tuned for India” with “immersive high definition audio” along with LHDC (Low Latency High Definition Audio Codec). The earbuds offer up to 14 hours of batter ylife with multiple charges thanks to its charging case and features an 14.2mm dynamic driver.

Interestingly, the price slash arrives just after OnePlus launched its very own TWS OnePlus Buds in India, which is priced at 4,990 INR (roughly 67 US Dollars). In other words, the competition for the TWS market in India is heating up, and prices are becoming highly competitive as each brand is launching its own truly wireless offerings. The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 is currently available for purchase through Mi.com and even offers three months of access to Gaana Plus subscription.

In September 2019, Xiaomi launched Mi AirDots 2 earbuds in China. In March, the same earbuds debuted as Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 in the global markets. Today, the Chinese firm live-streamed an unveil event to announce new the Xiaomi Mi 10 smartphone in India. Through the same event, the company unleashed the Mi True Wireless Earphones in India.

The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 has landed in India with a price of Rs. 3,999 (~$53). This pricing is only applicable between May 12 and May 17. The sales of the earbuds will begin on Mi.com, Amazon.in, and Mi Home at 12 PM on May 12.

The Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 comes with a massive 14.2mm dynamic driver coupled with a large composite dynamic coil. It allows the earbuds to deliver superior sound with full bass. The support for LHDC Bluetooth codec better sound quality with low latency. It can transfer more than thrice the volume of data packets compared to any other audio codec for delivering distortion-free sound output.

The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 comes with Bluetooth 5.0. It is compatible with Android and iOS devices. It is equipped with smart dual noise canceling microphones that ensure clarity during phone calls. On a single charge, the earbuds promise a listening time of up to 4 hours. The earphones can charge automatically through the charging case that features a USB-C port. When used with a charging case, the earbuds can last for up to 14 days.

The optical sensors placed inside the earbuds enables in-ear detection. The device can automatically pause the audio when earbuds are removed from the ears and it starts playing when the earphones are placed inside the ears. Right earphones can be tapped twice for play/pause. To access voice assistants like Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri, one can tap the left earbud twice. To receive a call, one can tap on either side twice.

Xiaomi India’s CEO Manu Kuma Jain has released a short teaser which hints at the impending launch of wireless earbuds. The earbuds will be released on May 8 which happens to be the date scheduled for the Mi 10 series launch.

The teaser clearly shows the product will bear a similar design with the Mi Airdots Pro 2 which was launched in Europe recently as Mi True Wireless Earphones. That is likely the name with which it will hit the Indian market.

The Mi AirDots Pro 2 was first launched in China back in September last year. Xiaomi has also introduced the Mi AirDots Pro 2s with a similar design, but with improved dual Bluetooth chip for a more stable connection and low latency and wireless charging.

The two earphones come with Bluetooth 5.0 (LDHC/SBC/AAC codes) to connect to Android and iOS devices, 14.2mm drivers, Touch controls for volume and track change, Dual microphones for noise cancellation, and voice control. They also have an Infrared sensor for intelligent wear detection so it automatically pauses when you remove them, Semi-in-ear design to fit your ear canal, making it comfortable to wear and doesn’t fall off easily and light-weight body. The Mi AirDots Pro 2s offers up to 24 hours battery life compared to 14 hours in the Pro 2 and the standalone battery life of up to 5 hours compared to 4 hours.

Xiaomi‘s global launch event today was a harvest of new products. The company unveiled the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro flagship models as well as the Mi 10 Lite 5G. Away from smartphones, we saw the Mi TV 4S 65″, Mi Air Purifier 3H, Mi AIoT Router AX3600 and the Mi AirDots Pro 2 launched as Mi True Wireless Earphones 2.

The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 is the global version of AirDots Pro 2 which the tech giant launched in China back in September 2019. The design and features are practically the same. What should differ is the retail price. The Mi true Wireless Earphones 2 comes in at €79.99 (US$ 87.97) whereas the AirDots Pro 2 is sold in China for 399 yuan (approximately $56).

As per the features, the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and can connect to Android and iOS devices. The earphones come with LDHC Hi-Res audio codec. Other features include smart voice controls, dual microphones for environmental noise cancellation (ENC). It is equally equipped with 14.2mm drivers for better audio output. The earphones are optimised to connect with phones running MIUI when the earphones are removed from the case.

You also get touch controls for volume and track change, as well as voice control. In addition, the Mi True Wireless Earphones come with an infrared sensor for intelligent wear detection so it automatically pauses when you remove them.

The semi-in-ear design makes it fit the ear canal perfectly, giving it a safety net from falling off the ears easily and also bringing comfort to the user. It is also a lightweight product with each earphone weighing just 4.5g while the battery case weighs 50g.

For durability, the Mi TWS earphones 2 provides 4 hours of continuous playback on each earphone. That can be extended up to 14 hours when charging successively with the case. It takes just 1 hour to fully charge the case when the battery is empty.

As stated, the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 comes with a €79.99 (US$ 87.97) price tag. It only comes in white and Xiaomi says it will be available in Europe soon. The Mi AirDots Pro 2 is even available on Giztop for $79.

Xiaomi may soon announce two new products based on recent certifications we spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website. The first is the Pocket Photo Printer and there is also the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2. Both products were certified early last week.

The Pocket Photo Printer as the name already says is a portable printer you can carry along with you to print out photos you have taken. This should be similar to the XPRINT Pocket AR Photo Printer that launched in February 2018.

We do not know if this will carry the “Mi” or “Mijia” branding or be launched under a different name. It may even be a follow up to last year’s model. The certification says it has Bluetooth 5.0, so expect a longer range. It also uses Zero Ink technology (Zink) which means you don’t need ink cartridges.

The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 (TWSEJ02JY) is definitely a successor to the Mi Bluetooth Earphones Air (TWSEJ01JY) which launched in January. We are not sure if there will be a significant change in design but the new model will connect via Bluetooth 5.0 for a stronger connection, better range, and better battery life.

We have no idea when either of these two products will launch but they most likely won’t arrive together. The Mi True Wireless Earphones just launched in Europe last month, so a successor won’t come anytime soon.
