But while we got the latter, the former was never released in the market. Now, new images have surface of a prototype model of the Surface Neo, which offers us a look at the device that might never be released.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-305494 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="1200" height="750" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-768x480.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-696x435.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-1068x668.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-672x420.jpg 672w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>The images of the prototype build was shared by Max Weinbach on Twitter. Although, the American tech giant launched the Surface Duo and its successor the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft-surface-duo-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Surface Duo 2</a>, the first gen Neo model has yet to be launched. Initial reports had pointed at a 2020 launch for the dual display device, but other rumors from back in April 2020 had suggested that the Surface Neo might not be arriving in 2020 at all.</p>
<p>Since then, there has been no official news about the Surface Neo. Although the official reason for the delayed or possibly canceled launch is unknown, the Coronavirus would likely have played a part as well. Microsoft had even stated that it had to reconsider its strategy post the pandemic, especially in regards to its Windows 10X and dual screen Windows devices. As of right now, it has shifted its focus back to single screen PCs.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="und" dir="ltr">Neo <a href="https://t.co/1RXrh2FSiN">pic.twitter.com/1RXrh2FSiN</a></p>
<p>&mdash; Max Weinbach (@MaxWinebach) <a href="https://twitter.com/MaxWinebach/status/1452355530773630979?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 24, 2021</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>But despite the Surface Neo underground, the tweet from Max Weinbach does arrives out of nowhere and offers us a look of what could&#8217;ve been. Reportedly, this prototype arrived from China but did not feature a display. In other words, we can see the internal components of the device directly. Looking at the images, the Surface Neo feature a form factor similar to the Surface Duo and can even pass off as an enlarged Surface Duo variant.</p>

The device is a dual-screen notebook with an extra keyboard and stylus support.</p>
<p>For this unique form-factor of the device, the Redmond-giant also developed a new branch of Windows operating system called Windows 10X, which is aimed to make the user experience better on such foldable devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-305494 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle.jpg?x44794" alt="Microsoft Surface Neo" width="1200" height="750" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-768x480.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-696x435.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-1068x668.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/surface-neo-sizzle-672x420.jpg 672w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>Now, it is being said that the company will miss its planned release date of holiday 2020 for the Surface Neo. However, the report adds that the launch timeline for the Surface Duo, a dual-screen Android smartphone, remains unaffected.</p>
<p>The dual-screen devices running the all-new Windows 10X were slated to ship around the holiday season of 2020. However, the company has pushed back the dates for this, which is likely due to the ongoing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/covid-19">COVID-19</a> pandemic. The company had warned in February this year that COVID-19 coronavirus was affecting the its China-based supply chain.</p>

<p>The Microsoft Surface Neo is a dual-screen laptop with 360-degree hinges that allows you to use it in various forms. It has two 9-inch displays, is powered by Intel’s Lakefield processor. The Surface Neo and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/01/microsoft-surface-duo-may-release-ahead-of-schedule/">Surface Duo</a> look alike but the latter is much smaller and their internals are also different.</p>
<p>The device also has a magnetic keyboard that attaches to the back of the device. In laptop mode, you can decide to use this keyboard or the on-screen one. If you opt for the former, which is smaller than the screen, the remaining visible display at the top becomes what is called a WonderBar.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-10x">Windows 10X</a> is a stripped-down version of Windows 10 but unlike Microsoft’s previous attempts at a lite-version of its operating system, Windows 10X can run legacy programs and not just Windows apps.</p>
