Microsoft Surface Pro 8 has been announced in India with the scheduled release slated for February 15. The Surface Pro 8 comes with a 13-inch 120Hz PixelSense touchscreen, 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, providing significant improvements from its predecessor.

The Thunderbolt 4 and Dolby Atmos sound have been added to the Surface Pro 8 for a more improved sound experience. It also has dual far-field studio microphones and a 10MP rear camera which is capable of shooting 4K videos. On a single charge, the Surface Pro 8 could work for up to 16 hours, reflecting a strong battery performance for the device.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 8 is structured on the Intel Evo platform which makes the device feature upgraded versions of the components in its predecessor. It uses Adaptive Color Technology and supports Dolby Vision for high-quality video output. The RAM of the Surface Pro 8 is up to 16GB (LPDDR4x) and you can get between 256GB and 1TB of SSD storage. The devices will run on Windows 11 operating system.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 8 will be available in the subcontinent through authorized outlets including Amazon India. Preorders for the Surface Pro 8 have commenced already via authorized online retail outlets. The slew of models available range from Rs. 104, 499 ($1,412) to Rs. 214,999 ($2,892).

Microsoft has been trying to establish itself in the hardware segment and has a lineup of devices under its Surface branding. It had recently launched the Surface Pro 8 and the Surface Go 3, both of which are getting new variants.

The Redmond-based technology giant has launched LTE-enabled models of the Surface Pro 8 and the Surface Go 3 devices in the United States, which are now available for purchase.

Prior to the launch of these LTE-enabled models, the devices were available in Wi-Fi-only variants. The launch of the new models comes along with the availability of a Matte Black color option for the Surface Pro 8.

The newly launched models can be purchased directly thorugh the Microsoft Store. The Surface Pro 8 can be ordered in both Intel Core i5 as well as Core i7 models but it seems to be available in only the Platinum color option.

Currently, only the Business edition model seems to be available with LTE support and it’s not yet clear if the consumer-focused version will get support for this additional connectivity feature or not.

As for the pricing, the LTE-enabled Microsoft Surface 8 Pro starts at $1,350 with the base configuration of an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage. On the other hand, the Surface Go 3 with LTE support, having Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB SSD storage costs $730.

A bumper Microsoft event held on 22 September saw the unveiling of five Surface products, namely the Surface Pro 8, Duo 2, Laptop Studio, Go 3, and Pro X. And now, the Redmond-based company has given an official release date for the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 with LTE Advanced – it will be made available sometime in 2022.

The LTE variant comes with both removable SIM and eSIM support (via: MSPoweruser). The 4G is handled by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 LTE Modem, which supports an array of bands.

Microsoft has described the device as the most ‘the most significant leap forward since the Pro 3’. And from a design perspective, that does hold true. The display has seen the most significant upgrade with its size being increased from 12.3-inches to 13-inches. It has also gained 120Hz refresh rate support paired with a new resolution of 2880×1920, although the aspect ratio remains at 3:2.

However, the reduction in the size of the bezels means that the device has a size that is more or less the same as its predecessor, despite the increase in screen size.

Under the hood, the Surface Pro 8 is powered by Intel’s latest Tiger Lake processors – 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or 11th Gen Intel Core i7. An AMD variant was rumored as well, but that clearly hasn’t materialized yet.

The camera setup comprises a 5MP front-facing camera with support for 1080p full HD video recording and a 10MP rear-facing autofocus camera with 1080p HD and 4K video. The audio is handled by 2W stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.

Microsoft is yet to provide precise battery numbers, but the Pro 8 will last up to 16 hours on a single charge, up from the Pro 7’s 10 hours. You can also charge from 0 to 80 percent in just over an hour.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 8 Wi-Fi model starts at $1099 and we expect the LTE Advanced model to be slightly pricier than that.

Microsoft has gone a leap ahead with the launch of the new Surface Pro 8. With all the new additions and upgrades, it wouldn’t be wrong to call it Microsoft’s best Surface Pro machine so far. The Surface Pro 8 packs a 120Hz display with minimal bezels, Thunderbolt 4 support, and a new keyboard that along with an upgraded Surface Slim Pen 2. Surface Pro 8 has picked up the best parts from the Surface Pro X and powers them with an Intel chip.

Microsoft Surface Pro 8

It has, what Microsoft calls as, a 13-inch PixelSense Flow Display which is larger than the previous-gen Surfaces, plus it has a higher resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate too. Support of Dolby Vision and Adaptive Color Technology makes it “the most technically advanced display” and Microsoft’s best display innovation.

The Surface Pro 8 also gets a redesigned Surface Slim Pen 2 along with the signature keyboard, much like the combo found on Surface Pro X. Microsoft has finally dropped the USB-A port and has finally equipped the new device with Thunderbolt 4. The Surface Pro 8 ships with two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports allowing it to run multiple 4K displays, use high-speed external storage, or even connect up to an external GPU.

Even though Windows 11 is available for the device, Microsoft has given users the liberty to choose between Windows 10 and 11, whichever users find better.

Microsoft Surface Pro X Wi-Fi

While Microsoft was at it, it also announced that Surface Pro X will get a Wi-Fi-only variant too. Cellular connectivity on the Surface Pro X has been a pricking problem so with the Wi-Fi variant, buyers will have an option to go for a variant that suits their needs better. Even though the higher variant of the Surface Pro X houses a custom SQ2 processor based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 processor that supports 5G, the device has been restricted to 4G LTE only.

While the company has made no claims about battery life, we hope that the Wi-Fi variant of the Surface Pro X will last a little longer when compared to the cellular variant.

There are also a few improvements to Windows 11 support for both x86 and x64 emulation. The Wi-Fi-only Surface Pro X sale begins today at $899.

Days ahead of the September 22 Surface hardware event by Microsoft, some major highlights of Surface Pro 8 have been leaked. From what it appears, this could be a retail listing and is highly likely to be the Surface Pro 8.  The tweet that leaked this confirms that there will be a 13-inch 120Hz display with thin bezels and two thunderbolt ports.

It was already being speculated that Surface Pro 8 could ship without USB-A ports, and if these leaks were to be believed, we will see a USB-C and Thunderbolt combination on the device, enhancing the versatility of the device.

The leak further goes on to reveal that the device will have Windows 11 running, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. There is also going to be replaceable SSDs like it was on Surface Laptop 4, Surface Pro X, and Surface Pro 7 Plus, allowing more flexibility to replace drives whenever required.

In the Surface hardware scheduled for September 22nd, we are expecting Microsoft to unveil the Surface Pro 8, Surface Go 3, Surface Book 4, an updated Surface Pro X, and the Android-powered Surface Duo 2.

After announcing the launch date for the next generation of Windows, Microsoft has added more to the streak by confirming that new Surface devices will also be finding their way to the stage. A dedicated page is now live that confirms the next-gen Microsoft Surface launch date to be September 22. Not only does this page talk about the launch details, but also gives out a glimpse of how one of the new Surface devices is going to look like. With these two big reveals lined up, Microsoft is certainly going to be at the center of discussion, at least for a couple of weeks.

After having chalked up an impressive 9-year journey, Surface is once again set to stir enthusiasts. However, what remains to be seen is that how many of these Surface devices are in the pipeline. Microsoft has kept it short and crisp with no major hints whatsoever, so relying on leaks and smart guesses is the only way to find it out.

As speculated by Slashgear, we may finally get to see the Surface Duo 2 for which there were leaks sporadically throughout the year. If history is anything to go by, there will be more devices tagging along with Surface Duo 2. Seen in the teaser image is, what appears to be, the successor of Surface Pro 7 that comes with a similar detachable stand and keyboard as accessories which means the Surface Pro 8 is in sight. The portfolio may further expand with the new Surface Book 4.

It’s about time we mark our calendars for September 22 at 11 AM ET to live stream the big event. Microsoft will certainly air it on the website, but watching the launch on YouTube is something that is always an alternative.

Since Windows 11 has a dedicated day for its introduction, we do not expect much to be highlighted on September 22. The stage is only going to be occupied by the Surface lineup.
