<p>Smartphone buyers today are spoiled for choice. The mid-range segment has evolved to a point where phones under flagship pricing offer great displays, fast charging, capable cameras, and solid performance. For most users, the question is no longer “Can a mid-range phone keep up?” but rather “What am I actually missing by not buying a flagship?” The trade-offs are now more subtle and situational. Mid-range devices can typically offer you up to 90% of the flagship experience for usually half the price or even lower. But there are always compromises, so let&#8217;s break down where these more affordable devices fall short. </p>

<h3>Gaming</h3>

<p>On paper, mid-range phones today look plenty powerful. Chips like the Dimensity 8500 deliver great performance that can handle most games without breaking a sweat. From casual titles to popular competitive games, you can expect smooth performance even at high settings. However, certain cracks can begin to show in sustained gaming performance. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-722777" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/251227-HONOR-WIN-WIN-RT-Gaming.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Honor Win/Win RT</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Flagship chips like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offer improved GPUs, with higher thermal limits, superior cooling systems, and hardware level ray tracing support, which not only offers a more immersive experience but even makes gaming more stable and smoother. You can hit triple digit framerates in competitive games, while graphically intense titles can also maintain around 60fps. So there are no compromises here. </p>

<h3>Zoomed Photography</h3>

<p>Mid-range cameras have become excellent for everyday photography. Good lighting, main sensors, and computational photography mean social-media-ready photos are almost guaranteed. Where they fall behind is versatility. Optical zoom, consistent low-light performance across lenses, faster shutter speeds, and reliable video stabilisation are still flagship strengths.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="997" height="821" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-10-205154.png?x44794" alt="Vivo X300" class="wp-image-718561" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-10-205154.png 997w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-10-205154-300x247.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-10-205154-768x632.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-10-205154-696x573.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-10-205154-510x420.png 510w" sizes="(max-width: 997px) 100vw, 997px" /><figcaption>Vivo X300 Pro</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>While certain models with a photography focus do stand out, models like the Vivo X300 Pro or Xiaomi 17 Ultra showcase just how powerful smartphone photography can be. These differences are more noticeable when you see the comparisons between a good mid-range phone and a premium device. </p>

<p>Certain affordable models even skip the telephoto shooter entirely, so you&#8217;re left with digital zoom that works in optimal conditions, but results quickly fall apart compared to true telephoto lenses. For everyday shooting, the difference is minor. For travel photography, events, or zoom-heavy use cases, flagships still have a clear edge.</p>

<h3>Software</h3>

<p>This is one of the most meaningful compromises. While mid-range phones now ship with clean software and useful features, long-term update support is still inconsistent. Flagships often receive four to seven years of OS and security updates. Mid-range phones usually stop much earlier, topping out at around 3-4 years if you&#8217;re lucky, and 2 years with the more budget options. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Galaxy-S24-series-One-UI-8-beta-features-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="Galaxy S24 series One UI 8 beta features" class="wp-image-704242" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Galaxy-S24-series-One-UI-8-beta-features-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Galaxy-S24-series-One-UI-8-beta-features-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Galaxy-S24-series-One-UI-8-beta-features-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Galaxy-S24-series-One-UI-8-beta-features-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Galaxy-S24-series-One-UI-8-beta-features-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Galaxy-S24-series-One-UI-8-beta-features-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Galaxy-S24-series-One-UI-8-beta-features.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>If you keep your phone for four years or more, this can impact security, features, and overall longevity. For users who upgrade frequently, this isn’t a big issue. But for long-term owners, software support alone can justify spending more upfront.</p>

<h3>Premium Build</h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70--1024x576.png?x44794" alt="Motorola Edge 70" class="wp-image-717656" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70--1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70--300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70--768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70--1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70--696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70--1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70--747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Motorola-Edge-70-.png 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Motorola Edge 70</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Flagships still feel more luxurious. Materials like glass, metal frames, tighter tolerances, and better haptics add up to a more refined in-hand experience. That said, the gap has narrowed dramatically. Many mid-range phones now offer solid builds, slim designs, and decent durability. While they may lack the subtle polish of a flagship, the difference is far less obvious than it was a few years ago. Unless build quality is a top priority, this compromise is mostly cosmetic. </p>

<h3>Resale Value</h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="394" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iphone-air-finish-unselect-galle-1024x394.jpg?x44794" alt="iPhone Air" class="wp-image-720229" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iphone-air-finish-unselect-galle-1024x394.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iphone-air-finish-unselect-galle-300x115.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iphone-air-finish-unselect-galle-768x295.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iphone-air-finish-unselect-galle-696x268.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iphone-air-finish-unselect-galle-1068x411.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iphone-air-finish-unselect-galle-1093x420.jpg 1093w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iphone-air-finish-unselect-galle.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Apple iPhone Air</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Flagships hold value better. Brand perception, longer software support, and premium positioning make them easier to resell after a couple of years. Meanwhile, mid-range phones depreciate much faster. Even the official price tag falls noticeably just months after their initial release. So while you save money upfront, you also recover less when upgrading later. This matters if you regularly sell your old phone to fund the next one. Resale value is part of the upgrade strategy for many. Thus, flagships make more financial sense in the long run.</p>

<h3>Verdict</h3>

<p>If you’re a heavy gamer, camera enthusiast, long-term phone user, or someone who values premium polish and resale value, a flagship still makes sense. The differences, while subtle, add up over time. For everyone else, mid-range phones are the smarter buy. You get most of the experience at a significantly lower price, with compromises that rarely affect daily use. In 2026, buying mid-range isn’t settling, but choosing value. The key factor is knowing whether you&#8217;ll actually notice the missing 10%.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung </a>is one of the world&#8217;s most popular brands for smartphones. From affordable models to premium grade flagships, it has a device for every budget. But the brand also dominated in the mid range segment thanks to its popular Galaxy A and Galaxy M series. We recently talked about <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/02/04/why-you-shouldnt-buy-a-mid-range-samsung-phone/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">things to consider before you buy a mid range Samsung smartphone</a>, so now, let&#8217;s see why these are picking up.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="652" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-75-1024x652.png?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy A55" class="wp-image-610651" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-75-1024x652.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-75-300x191.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-75-768x489.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-75-696x443.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-75-1068x680.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-75-660x420.png 660w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-75.png 1199w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy A55</figcaption></figure></div>

<h3>Budget-Conscious Buyers Who Want Quality</h3>

<p>Samsung&#8217;s mid range smartphones can be great for people who are looking for a balance between price and features. But one of the greatest advantages of the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series models is the design. Samsung announced a while back that it will be making its smartphone design uniform across different categories. </p>

<p>This meant that even if you buy a Galaxy A or Galaxy M smartphone, you will still get the iconic and premium design language of the flagship Galaxy S lineup. This is best showcased in models like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-a55/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy A55</a>. It offers a premium design with a glass back as well as an aluminum frame. Even if you skip certain aspects like the metallic frame on the more affordable <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-a35/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy A35</a>, you still get the flat glass back. In other words, you get a proven, easily recognizable, and sleek looking phone without spending a lot.</p>

<h3>Capable Specifications</h3>

<p>In our things to consider list, we mentioned how some smartphones are faster than Galaxy mid ranges despite having similar costs. However, Samsung doesn&#8217;t focus on pure performance. Its devices can easily handle any task for everyday use and some gaming as well. But the brand also aims to offer a refined experience overall.</p>

<p>Samsung is known for some of the best displays on the market and even its mid range devices feature great AMOLED panels. The Super AMOLED displays bring vibrant colors along with a high refresh rate as well, without breaking the band. You can also expect decent battery life as these affordable phones typically offer around a 5,000mAh battery pack. Meanwhile, the back usually offers a capable camera setup that has seen notable improvements over the years.</p>

<h3>Casual Smartphone Users</h3>

<p>Apple built its phones for the average user, meaning they are easy to learn and interact with. Samsung&#8217;s OneUI had a rocky start but has great improvements, making it a lot more intuitive. It offers great customizability options, a smooth UI experience, and a multitude of useful features. </p>

<h3>Users Who Prefer Longer Software Support</h3>

<p>Unlike most brands, Samsung is known to offer some of the longest software support for its smartphones. While devices in this category typically launch with around two years of major OS upgrades and three years of security patches, Galaxy phones can offer up to 4 years of guaranteed OS updates and an impressive 5 years of security patches. This means your device has a longer support cycle, making it more secure and prone to improve overtime. </p>

<p>When shopping for a new phone, pricing is one of the biggest factors to consider. Mid-range smartphones are still a popular segment, striking a balance between good specs and pricing. But over the years, they have started becoming more expensive. So here&#8217;s why getting your hands on a used flagship phone might be a better value for money.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus 12" class="wp-image-593747" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OnePlus-12-VS-GT5-Pro_1.mp4_20231226_112326.407.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>OnePlus 13</figcaption></figure></div>

<h3>Superior Build Quality</h3>

<p>Flagship phones are designed to be premium. Brands use materials like metal (aluminum, titanium, and others) along with strengthened glass for a more luxurious feel. Meanwhile, mid-range devices cut corners in the build quality to keep pricing low, often using cheaper materials like plastic. So a pre-owned flagship basically retains its premium build quality and a robust design.</p>

<h3>Better Performance</h3>

<p>A premium phone is equipped with cutting edge hardware like the latest chipset, higher RAM capacity, and better GPUs. This makes them better in overall performance, which helps in improving the multitasking experience, gaming, or other intensive tasks. Mid-range smartphones can easily meet the demands of most users. However, better performance also makes it future proof and viable for more years. So you won&#8217;t need to upgrade in a year or two.</p>

<h3>Superior Cameras</h3>

<p>Flagship smartphones arrive with various improvements in camera technology that enhance the photography experience or bring a new feature entirely. But apart from all of this, the image quality is typically superior on flagship phones than most mid-range phones, even if it is a year old. The large sensors mean they perform better in low light, and OIS helps in stable videos and better pictures.</p>

<h3>Longer Software Support</h3>

<p>The standard in software support for smartphones usually brings two major OS updates and three years of security patches. However, brands like Google, Apple, and Samsung lead the pack with impressively long software support on their flagship phones. So even if the phone you get is more than a year old, it is likely to receive longer software updates compared to any new mid-range phone.</p>

<h3>Pre-Owned or Refurbished: Cost Efficiency</h3>

<p>There are a couple of ways to get your hands on a used flagship smartphone. This includes heading to second hand selling platforms, buying it from someone else directly (via official or unofficial channels), or getting a refurbished phone. The last option is the safest, considering how refurbished devices are thoroughly inspected, repaired (if needed), and tested to ensure they function like new. These even come with warranties as well. But getting a used phone might be the cheapest option. So without spending premium prices, you can get your hands on flagship phones that have slight wear and tear.</p>

Now, a company executive has revealed that the upcoming new devices within the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/realme-q/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Q series</a> will arrive with a balance between performance and price.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-383656 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Screenshot-5.png?x44794" alt="Realme" width="596" height="314" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Screenshot-5.png 596w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Screenshot-5-300x158.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px" /></p>
<p>According to Wang Wei, vice president of the Chinese tech giant and president of the global product line, the company&#8217;s premium grade handset has seen success with its customers. It offers top notch specs and features and offers great performance, albeit at a higher price than its usual mid range handsets. But, the company is also planning on launching new Q series of smartphones, which would not be as powerful as the GT, but would still offer a &#8220;balance of performance and price.&#8221;</p>
<p>The senior official further added that the smartphone maker is hoping to satisfy everyone&#8217;s expectation through the launch combination of both the GT and Q product lineup. THe former would target the higher end premium segments while the latter can range from more budget friendly to even mid range segments. Wang Wei also said that only the GT series of devices will arrive with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processors for now.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-358605 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Realme-Q2-Pro-New-Color-Variants-.jpg?x44794" alt="Realme" width="690" height="465" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Realme-Q2-Pro-New-Color-Variants-.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Realme-Q2-Pro-New-Color-Variants--300x202.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Realme-Q2-Pro-New-Color-Variants--623x420.jpg 623w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></p>
<p>Furthermore, he did state that there will also be a handset launching with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-870/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon 870</a> processor, which might be something to look forward to considering that particular chipset has been recently spotted in certain relatively affordable flagship smartphones. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.</p>

<p>Tipster Mukul Sharma <a href="https://twitter.com/stufflistings/status/1321719476958588929">says</a> the next POCO device will likely launch in the first half of December citing his source. That is, if everything goes according to the plan. Now, this works out somewhere between December 1-14 of 2020 but isn&#8217;t official yet. He adds that the launch will mostly be a Global one(maybe Europe). And that there is no word on the Indian launch yet. Further, Mukul Sharma has replied to a user saying the device will seemingly be a mid-ranger.</p>
<p>This is understandable considering the company already launched a flagship <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-poco-f2-pro">Poco F2 Pro</a> and a midrange <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-poco-x3-nfc">POCO X3 NFC</a> globally. On the other hand, the India division is operating with a different strategy in mind. It recently <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/16/poco-x3-confirmed-to-launch-in-india-on-september-22/">launched</a> the POCO X3 with a modified 6,000mAh battery. Additionally, Country Director of POCO, Anuj Sharma <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/08/country-director-of-poco-anuj-sharma-explains-the-reason-for-rebranding-redmi-devices/">said</a> that POCO devices in India are better than the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmi">Redmi</a> counterparts despite being rebranded.</p>
<p>Coming back, the latest tip affirms an earlier tweet by POCO&#8217;s Global Spokesperson, Angus Kai Ho Ng. He <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/14/poco-executive-hints-arrival-of-new-smartphone/">tweeted</a> that POCO isn&#8217;t done yet with a #POCOcomingsoon. Following this, a smartphone with model number M2010J19CG was spotted at the database of EEC. EEC is the Eurasian Economic Commission. That said, the model number is reminiscent of a similar device(M2010J19SC) that&#8217;s probably <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/25/redmi-note-10-4g-likely-certified-by-miit-authority-in-china/">heading to China</a> as Redmi Note 10 4G.</p>
<p>Now, if we recall, the device also got certified at China&#8217;s 3C authority. It showed that the device will <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/24/redmi-note-10-4g-m2010j19sc-bags-3c-certification/">support 22.5W fast charging</a>. However, we are devoid of further info and will have to wait for more leaks in the future.</p>

This was announced by the company during its second-quarter earnings call earlier this week, as <a href="http://www.thelec.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=1281">reported by The Elec</a>.</p>
<p>The company&#8217;s Vice President Bae Kwang-wook said that the company demand for camera modules of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mid-range-smartphone">mid-range smartphones</a> has been on the rise and it anticipates increased demand for the high-resolution sensors and optical zoom sensors.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-300041 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/samsung-logo.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="1000" height="500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/samsung-logo.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/samsung-logo-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/samsung-logo-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/samsung-logo-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/samsung-logo-840x420.jpg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>He added that the company has been planning to enter this market for some time and it plans to compete based on the pricing of the module. Samsung Electro-Mechanics will likely provide high-resolution camera modules for the Samsung Galaxy A-series phones.</p>
<p>Interestingly, the announcement comes just a day after it was reported that Samsung Electro-Mechanics has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/28/samsung-electro-mechanics-apple-iphone-lens-contract/">secured a contract from Apple</a> to supply camera parts as the US-based tech giant looks to diversify its supply chain.</p>

<p>Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which has supplied camera modules for premium smartphones such as Galaxy S- and Galaxy Note-series, could be entering the mid-range market because of the falling demand for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/flagship-smartphone">premium phones</a>.</p>
<p>In line with this, it is also being reported that the company could introduce Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a premium feature, for the upcoming Galaxy A-series smartphones launching next year. It is also planning to offer differentiating features such as better optical zoom and slimmer design.</p>
<p>For the second quarter of this year, the company posted 96 billion won in operating profits and 1.8122 trillion won in revenue, which represents a decline of 41 percent and 5 percent, respectively compared to last year.</p>

The chipset is the successor to Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 which was launched in August this year.</p>
<p>Soon after the announcement of the SD675 SoC, Chinese smartphone manufacturer <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/">Xiaomi</a> said that it&#8217;ll launch a new mid-range smartphone powered by the Qualcomm&#8217;s latest Snapdragon 675 processor, which is manufactured using the 11nm process.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-218443 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/xiaomi-sd675-phone.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi announces Snapdragon 675-powered smartphone" width="1019" height="672" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/xiaomi-sd675-phone.png 1019w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/xiaomi-sd675-phone-300x198.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/xiaomi-sd675-phone-768x506.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/xiaomi-sd675-phone-540x355.png 540w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/xiaomi-sd675-phone-730x480.png 730w" sizes="(max-width: 1019px) 100vw, 1019px" /></p>
<p>Manu Kumar Jain, Global Vice President of Xiaomi and Managing Director of Xiaomi India made this announcement during <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/">Qualcomm</a>&#8216;s 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong. With this, Xioami has become the first company to announce a device powered by SD675 chipset and could also be the first to launch it.</p>
<p>The newly announced Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform is an octa-core processor that includes two performance cores of Cortex A76 clocked at 2.0GHz and six power-efficient cores of Cortex A55 clocked at 1.78GHz.</p>
<p>The chipset brings some advanced features on mid-range phones that are usually found only on high-end devices or flagship phones. It comes equipped with Adreno 61X graphics which carries support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Open CL 2.0, Vulkan, and DirectX 12.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-218379 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-675.png?x44794" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 675" width="678" height="381" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-675.png 678w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-675-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 678px) 100vw, 678px" /></p>
<p>It also supports front-facing or rear-mounted triple cameras with features such as portrait mode and 3D face unlock. It also carries support for limitless slow-motion videos of HD quality. Further, it includes X12 LTE modem with 600Mbps download speeds and 3x carrier acceleration, Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2×2 with MU-MIMIO, tri-band and Bluetooth 5.0.</p>
<p>The SD675 also has gaming-specific enhancements, similar to Huawei&#8217;s GPU Turbo optimisation. According to the company, compared to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/08/08/qualcomm-announces-snapdragon-670-a-less-powerful-snapdragon-710/">Snapdragon 670 SoC</a>, the newly announced Snapdragon 675 offers 30 percent faster gaming launch experience and 35 percent faster interest browsing.</p>

<p>While Xiaomi has not revealed the exact timeline for the SD675-powered smartphone apart from the fact that it&#8217;ll launch next year, we are expecting the phone to hit the market in the first quarter of 2019 given that Qualcomm has revealed that the chipset is already available to OEMs.</p>

In the year 2015, the company branched out and launched a mid-range smartphone named <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2015/10/29/oneplus-x-is-official-with-snapdragon-801-will-come-in-a-limited-ceramic-edition/">OnePlus X</a>. However, in 2016, the company said that it&#8217;s done making mid-range smartphone and won&#8217;t be releasing the successor of the OnePlus X.</p>
<p>As a result, the company has been launching only flagship smartphones from last few years. Since the company launched OnePlus 3, it has been launching two &#8220;flagship killer&#8221; smartphones every year. After OnePlus 3, the company launched OnePlus 3T, OP5, OP5T and most recently, it launched the OnePlus 6.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-192409 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/oneplus-6-2.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus 6" width="1276" height="957" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/oneplus-6-2.jpg 1276w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/oneplus-6-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/oneplus-6-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/oneplus-6-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/oneplus-6-2-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 1276px) 100vw, 1276px" /></p>
<p>Now, Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus has confirmed that the company will stick to its current plan of launching only flagship smartphones and has no plan to launch a mid-range smartphone at least until 2021. So, for the next three year, there won&#8217;t be a successor of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-x/">OnePlus X</a> or any other mid-range phone from the China-based company.</p>
<p>OnePlus has decided to focus on its flagship phones and attempts to shift any/all remaining stock ahead of the next release. The company is avoiding having old handsets be sold alongside its new ones, as the demand for the older devices isn&#8217;t high enough to warrant them to continue making along with its newer ones.</p>
<p>Sticking with its policy of just one smartphone at a time, the company is obviously limiting its growth but the overall strategy seems to be working for the Chinese manufacturer. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus/">OnePlus</a> was the best-selling premium smartphone brand in India in the first quarter of this year. The OnePlus 5T was placed second in terms of flagship shipments in India, only behind the combined shipments of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s9-exynos/">Galaxy S9</a> and S9 Plus from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/">Samsung</a>.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>Read More:</strong></span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/05/29/oneplus-removes-always-on-display-oneplus-6/">OnePlus Removes Always-On Display Feature From OnePlus 6 Due To Battery Concerns</a></p>
<p>Even by the company&#8217;s internal metrics, the OnePlus 5T was a big success, says Pete Lau. OnePlus, like many other manufacturers, uses the net promoter score (NPS) to measure consumer satisfaction for a product. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-5t/">OnePlus 5T</a> had an NPS of 78, the highest for any OnePlus smartphone so far.</p>
