<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/11/xiaomi-14-launch-date-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi 14 series</a> is one of the most anticipated smartphone releases of the year. And now we have some new information about the baseline Xiaomi 14 model.</p>

<p>According to tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), the Xiaomi 14 is currently in mass production in a new Pink shade, which is said to be very good-looking. It will also feature a 1mm bezel on the screen, just like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-14-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pro variant</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-MiOS-1024x536.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi 14 MiOS" class="wp-image-574727" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-MiOS-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-MiOS-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-MiOS-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-MiOS-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-MiOS-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-MiOS-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-MiOS.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>More importantly, DCS notes that Xiaomi’s &#8220;new system focuses on smoothness,&#8221; which is likely a reference to the rumored MiOS. If you’re unaware, MiOS is tipped to be Xiaomi&#8217;s new operating system that will replace MIUI.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="300" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-with-MiOS.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-574724" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-with-MiOS.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-with-MiOS-300x100.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-with-MiOS-768x256.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-14-with-MiOS-696x232.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Earlier this week, DCS <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/09/xiaomi-ditching-miui-15-in-favor-of-mios/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tipped </a>that MIUI 14 will be the last generation of MIUI and will be replaced by MiOS. But later <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/10/xiaomi-miui-15-mios/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomiui claimed </a>that the switch from MiOS to MIUI would likely only happen in China, and MiOS would not be available globally. Other tipsters, such as Ice Universe, have also hinted at the arrival of MiOS. So it&#8217;s possible that we might see the new OS, at least in China.</p>

<p>And if you&#8217;re wondering, MiOS will not just be a simple name change. Xiaomi is likely planning to make MiOS a universal operating system that can be used on all devices, from smartphones and tablets to cars and smart homes. This would be similar to Huawei&#8217;s HarmonyOS.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.giztop.com/xiaomi-14-phone.html">Xiaomi 14</a> is also expected to be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform. This chip is based on TSMC&#8217;s N4P process and features an upgraded prime core, the Cortex X4 clocked at 3.19GHz. Benchmark scores of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 promise a significant performance jump from its predecessor.</p>

<p>Of course, we&#8217;re not yet sure how good the Xiaomi 14 series will be. But based on the information that we have so far, it is definitely worth keeping an eye on.</p>

<p>A <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/09/xiaomi-ditching-miui-15-in-favor-of-mios/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recent report</a> by Digital Chat Station claimed that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi </a>is planning to skip<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/miui-15/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> MIUI 15</a> altogether and launch a new operating system called MiOS instead. However, <em>Xiaomiui</em>, a blog that solely covers Xiaomi-related news, has suggested that these claims are entirely baseless and untrue.</p>

<p>According to <a href="https://xiaomiui.net/will-xiaomis-mios-be-launch-no-continue-with-miui-15-heres-what-us-expect-and-fake-news-51816/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Xiaomiui</em>,</a> Xiaomi is still testing MIUI 15 internally and is expected to officially release it with the Xiaomi 14 series. They also added that there is currently no relevant information about MiOS.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/MIUI-15-legacy-themes-1024x536.jpg?x10805" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>However, the blog<em> </em>did not rule out the possibility of Xiaomi switching from MIUI to MiOS in the future. They suggested that if Xiaomi does make such a switch, it would likely only happen in China, and MiOS would not be available globally.</p>

<p>In support of its claims, <em>Xiaomiui</em> shared some code snippets showing that MIUI 15 is being tested on different Xiaomi smartphones. The hints of these internal builds were obtained from the official Xiaomi server and therefore can be considered reliable. MIUI 15 is currently in the testing phase for a bunch of Xiaomi smartphones, including the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-13/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi 13</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-13-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi 13 Ultra</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-k60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Redmi K60 Pro</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mix-fold-3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mix Fold 3</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/MIUI-15-build-testing-for-various-Xiaomi-smartphones.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-573641" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/MIUI-15-build-testing-for-various-Xiaomi-smartphones.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/MIUI-15-build-testing-for-various-Xiaomi-smartphones-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/MIUI-15-build-testing-for-various-Xiaomi-smartphones-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/MIUI-15-build-testing-for-various-Xiaomi-smartphones-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/MIUI-15-build-testing-for-various-Xiaomi-smartphones-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>While it is still too early to say for sure whether Xiaomi is truly planning to retire MIUI and launch MiOS, the fact that the company is already testing MIUI 15 suggests that MIUI is not going away anytime soon, at least in the global market.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/04/google-android-14-launches/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Android 14</a> has just been released and smartphone manufacturers are already working on their next-generation UIs based on the new Android OS. Xiaomi is one of these companies, and it is expected to unveil <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/miui-15/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MIUI 15</a> in the coming months. However, in a surprising twist, a reliable tipster has revealed that Xiaomi is planning to skip MIUI 15 altogether and launch a brand new operating system called MiOS instead.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/xiaomi-developing-smartphone-operating-system-1024x576.jpg?x10805" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>The tipster, <em>Digital Chat Station</em>, revealed via a Weibo post that Xiaomi is considering MIUI 14 to be the &#8220;final major version&#8221; in the MIUI series. Instead, the company is working on developing a completely new OS from the ground up.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="270" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-to-skip-MIUI-for-MiOS.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-573383" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-to-skip-MIUI-for-MiOS.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-to-skip-MIUI-for-MiOS-300x90.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-to-skip-MIUI-for-MiOS-768x230.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Xiaomi-to-skip-MIUI-for-MiOS-696x209.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>A few months back, <em>Digital Chat Station</em> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/23/xiaomi-developing-smartphone-operating-system/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mentioned</a> that Xiaomi is working on its own operating system that will be compatible with AOSP (Android Open Source Project) and will be used on a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and wearable technology. The rumored OS could likely be MiOS.</p>

<p>In the Weibo post, he also expressed his hopes for Xiaomi&#8217;s new system, saying that &#8220;MIUI 14&#8217;s basic experience is already top-notch, but the dynamic effects are still lagging behind. I hope the new work can completely eliminate this shortcoming!&#8221; Additionally, he also clarified that MIUI 15 would not be renamed as MiOS.</p>

<p>To note, Xiaomi also registered the domain name &#8220;mios.cn&#8221; in November 2022, suggesting that the new UI could possibly be in development. However, the website currently shows a 403 error and doesn’t have an SSL certificate.</p>

<p>It remains to be seen if or when MiOS will come into existence, but one after another leak suggests that Xiaomi is certainly planning a major change in its software ecosystem. We will keep you updated on this.</p>
